IOS 7 iPad Crashes

After updating to iOS 7 a few months ago, I have noticed my iPad repeatedly crashing.  When it does this, it goes to a black screen with the apple logo, like when it is turning on.  The crash does not seem to be related to any specific apps, it happens at seemingly random times.  My family has also noticed this problem on their first generation iPad minis, as well as on my third generation iPad.  It happens generally a few times a day, and is very annoying as the iPad needs to boot again afterwards, which takes a minute or two.  Is there any way to fix this?

Hello there, bpfeifer.
The following Knowledge Base article provides some great steps for troubleshooting your issue:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Particularly:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro.

Is it the new iPad Mini Retina or IOS 7 CRASHES CONSTANTLY
    I hate to, but I feel I am a guinea pig at 700.00 a crack 128gb mini.
I have 4 of them and THEY ALL DO IT. I have restored, setup as new ipad but nothing works.
also, the colors on the new ipad mini seem dull and off. I have a plum colored car and it looks brown on the mini.
    Giving up...

i bought an iPad Mini Retina earlier this week
came back home, updated to iOS 7.0.4 and it crashed many times, while browsing settings but also some apps
i had it exchanged because of a yellow tint on the screen
got a new one, under 7.0.3, also crashed several times, updated to 7.0.4, still crashing
wondering if the new 64-bit processor has something to do with the code used for iOS

Uptated to iOS 5 on my ipad2 and now all of my apps that weren't preinstalled on the iPad crash immediately after opening. I already tried restarting the ipad and that didn't work. I really don't want to have to do this with 100+ apps. Or sit through a complete restore...

Try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.

I have a message on my Ipad that states my IOS has crashed due to a 3rd party. It refers to my tablet as a phone (sorry, don't have an Iphone. It gives a number to call for support but I know it's a scam. Is there a solution to get rid of it as it has locked up my Safari.

    1. Reset the iPad
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on your iPad,
simultaneously  press and hold down the “Home” button” until the screen turns off.
       Turn it back on.
    2. Clear information from your device

There is a bug in the spellchecking functionality when typing in the web view or while using Blogsy App. Why? Why my IPad crashes so often?

I have always found spell check to be "buggy" in every version of all of the iOS's that I have run on my original model iPad and my new iPad - especially when replying and typing posts in these forums. It works perfectly in every other application on my iPad but it has never worked perfectly in any web browser that I have used on my iPad - no matter what I have done to try to correct it. That is what MY experience has been with spell check on my iPads.
As for the crashes on your iPad try these basic troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Why does iPad crash so often?

In the middle of playing games or checking Facebook, my iPad crashes and goes back to home page.  It does the same thing when I try to share pictures on Facebook.  I went to the Apple store today and they helped me backup everything and then completely reset my iPad.  The crashes are still happening.  Does this mean I need a new iPad??  I don't know what else to do.

Do you have an iPad 1? If you have a newer iPad you need to update to iOS 7.1.

I have been using Revel v 2.3.1-548 on iPhone 5 and iPad 3 without any issues. An update was released today (29 June) and this won't install and crashes the app on both devices so I have had to go back to the old version. Anyone else having this problem?

  • IOS 6 Crashes after moving Icons

Anyone else noticed that after dragging an app icon around various pages that IOS 6 crashes and reboots ?

The problem is software related and has to do partially with a kernal panic and way the cpu access the data. Some users have found the using reset all settings works and some users are finding that only restoring their phone works to stop the phone from going into a springboard reboot loop. It is definetly something that Apple is well aware of and is trading out handsets that have these problems, even though it is not a hardware issue or defect that cannot be solved.
Research I have done into this problem has shown that the problem is partially related to how much data the cpu is going through and how hot the device has become. If you are having any springboard boot related issues take your phone out of its case and allow for the phone to cool down to normal temperture (powering down is highly recommended, but some people cannot live without their phone being on) before you start to mess around with your phone again. The way that iOS 6 uses the Springboard is different than iOS 4 and partially different than 5 that system messages and notifications were taken out of Springboard control and are part of their own processes. The gpu and cpu both have to render the moving of apps and incoming email, messages and any other notifications. Allowing for your iPhone/iPad to cool down will do wonders for all of the Springboard related issues.

  • IPad crashes when backing up to iTunes

I just got a new iPad Air, and I need to back up my old iPad 3 to my Macbook so I can restore the new iPad Air from the backup.  BUT....every time I try to back my old iPad up to my computer, my iPad crashes.  I get about 75% of the way through the backup loading bar, and then my iPad goes black and takes five to ten minutes to reboot itself, and then the whole process happens again.  I've seen multiple posts about iTunes crashing when syncing, but not the iPad itself.  I have tried hitting both the back up button or just the sync button (it backs up during the process) but neither works.  This same process also occurs when I try to update to iOS 8.3 (from my iPad, no Macbook or iTunes involved).  How do I get my iPad to last through the backup process?

Have you tried backing your iPad up to iCloud?
Are you using the latest version of iTunes?
How much unused space is left on the iPad?
Try to delete any unnecessary emails/messages & apps.  Clear Safari cache: Settings->Safari->Clear History & Website Data.
Make sure the iPad is charged before backing up to iTunes
    Try a general reset:
Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings.  You won't lose any data but will have to log back into your wifi network

  • Ipad crashes with scrabble

My scrabble for ipad crashes as I start it I tried everything from re-installing to reinitialising ipad nothing worked

Then (assuming you have already updated your apps and iOS to the latest version), it is time to try a restore.  (The latest version of Scrabble is 3.6.1).
Plug your iPad into iTunes (current version).  Let it sync.  Choose "Restore" from the iPad's summary page in iTunes.

  • Ipad crashes on multitask

    hello,
i have ipad 3 with IOS 7 (7.0.4), from time to time when i change applications with multitask the ipad crashes and restarts.
does anyone encounter the same issue or can you give me any solution?
    TNX

Start with a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
Others have had difficulty with this issue.  There are other things that you can try but you may well end up at the local Apple Store with the resident "Genius."
