IOS 7 Location reminders?

I know that I have to have the Reminders app running in the background for location based reminders to go off. But here's my issue. The other night I set a reminder to go off when I left my house. The reminder didn't go off until I was well over 5 miles away from my house. And yes, I did make sure when I selected my house, the circle selecting the area was at its smallest value. Is this normal?

Hello there, madatapple18.
The following Knowledge Base article offers great, in-depth steps for troubleshooting the Reminders application on your iOS device:

Troubleshooting Reminders on iOS devices
If you're having trouble with Reminders on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) and iCloud Calendar, try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:
Make sure that you're using iOS 5 or later. If you meet these requirements but your issue continues, tryinstalling the latest version of iOS supported by your device.
Make sure that your iCloud account is configured correctly in Settings. For instructions on setting up iOS for iCloud, see iCloud Setup. Reminders is a separate data type on iOS. It must be enabled via the Reminders setting in Settings > iCloud.
Make sure your iOS device is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud Reminders will not update in Calendar. Learn about troubleshooting your Internet connection.
Open a secure website to test if ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Reminders requires port 443 access to iCloud to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Calendar and Reminders servers.
If recent changes don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 7:
Open the Calendar app.
Tap the Calendars tab to load the Calendars list.
Pull down on the list to refresh both calendar events and reminders.
If recent changes simply don't appear in Reminders, try forcing a refresh. In iOS 6 and 5:
Open the Calendar app.
Tap Calendars in the top-left corner to load the Calendars list.
Tap the Refresh button in the lower-left of the Calendars list.
Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
In iOS 7, press the Home button.
Press the Home button twice to see preview screens of the apps you have open.
Find the Reminders preview screen and swipe it up and out of preview to quit the application.
Quit and restart the Reminders app on your iOS device.
In iOS 6 and iOS 5, press the Home button.
Press the Home button twice to open the multitasking menu.
Press and hold the Reminders icon until it jiggles.
Tap the red circle in the upper-left corner to quit the app.
Press the Home button to get back to your Home screen. Wait a minute before reopening the Calendar app.
Change the Sync settings for your calendars:
In iOS 7 and iOS 6, tap Settings > Reminders.
In iOS 5, tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then scroll down to the bottom to the Reminders section.
Tap Sync. If Sync is set to All Reminders, set it to a specific duration, such as Reminders 1 Month Back. If it's already set to a specific duration, set it to All Reminders.
Wait several minutes and refresh again, as described previously. Then open the Reminders app again.
Turn iCloud Reminders off and back on:
Tap Settings > iCloud.
Turn off Reminders. Choose to delete data only if your reminders exist at icloud.com/#reminders and on one or more of your devices. Otherwise, choose Keep Data.
Wait a few minutes before turning Reminders back on.
Restart your iOS device: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears, then drag the slider. After the device turns off, turn it back on by pressing the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
Cheers,
Pedro.

  • IOS 7 Location Based Reminders aren't working

I am having trouble getting location based reminders to work on iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. I have allowed for it to use my location and refresh in the background. Reminders with set times and dates work without any problems. Any ideas about how to fix this problem?

In iOS 7 location based Reminders no longer function unless the Reminders app is running in the background.
If I ask Siri to remind me of things when I arrive or leave a location she confirms the request by saying "Here is the reminder for when you get home, should I create it?"  I then confirm and she says ,"I'll remind you". She doesn't mention that Reminders needs to be active in order to remind me.
If this is intended behavior in iOS 7 this is a major step backward in terms of intuitive functionality and ease of use. I mean, I'm asking Siri to remind me of stuff because I'm probably not going to remember to do something. Why should I have to additionally remember to have Reminders running in the background to receive a Reminder notification? Very counter intuitive.
Steps that I have taken to try and resolve issue:
    • Restore as new iPhone and manually install all apps
    • Make sure that Siri is accessing my correct home and office location through my contact information.
    • Made sure Reminder is in my Notification Center and all notifications types are turned on in the Notification Center
    • Make sure the Do Not Disturb feature is not running either manually or scheduled
    • Make sure Siri is on and has "my info" correct
    • Make sure Background App Refresh is on and that it is turned on for Reminders
    • Make sure a sound has been selected for Reminders in the Sounds settings
    • Make sure Location Services are turned on gloabally and that it is turned on for Reminders and Siri specifically.
    • Make sure all System Services are turned on
    • Make sure I have cell signal when I arrive at places I am supposed to be reminded at
    Still doesn't work!!

  • Ios 5 location bug ?

ios 5 location bug... I live in South Africa and i would love to use the reminders app for the location based alerts but as you can see here -->https://p.twimg.com/Abyz8QQCAAAyuPQ.png:large
when you drop a pin it just gives you the general area no roads or anything,
i am wondering if this is a problem with google maps or with iOS5 or both
    any ideas ?

I have noticed the exact same issue. Since updating to iOS5 the maps app seems to not list the pin point position thus making the location based reminders very difficult to use.
I tested this with an iOS5 and an iOS4 device today and the iOS4 mapping gives street names and not just Johannesburg GP like on iOS5? See attached pictures with devices mapping at the same location?
I went into the Apple store in Sandton City on Thursday but the guy I spoke to simply said that it is a new operating system, and he would try and look into it? My problem is that if this is just a South African mapping iOS5 issue how long will it take to get resolved without being brought to the attention of the right people?

  • Location reminders not working..?

Does anyone knows what is happening with location reminders in iOS7?
As soon as you close the reminders app it just won't work...

In iOS7, location-based reminders won't fire if the Reminders app is explicitly terminated by the user.
That is if the user removes an application from the Multi-Tasking application list (brought up with a double-press of the Home button), iOS 7 will conclude that the user doesn't want this app to get any more run-time. That implies that Reminders won't be launched again to display your location-based reminders.
The following is generally a good starting point to verify that Reminders will be able to fire location-based reminders:
Settings > Privacy > Location Services
Verify that the toggle for Reminders is ON and that a purple hollow location arrow is displayed next to it.
This arrow may be solid if Reminders was provided the device's location within the last minute.
Give a minute or so to this arow to give you the current location access status of this app.
If the toggle is ON but you don't see the purple hollow location arrow next to it after one minute:
    - Verify that the following is ON for Reminders:
Settings > General > Background App Refresh
    - Launch Reminders and keep it in the background by pressing the Home button.

  • Location reminders with siri in the UK

I have been trying to get location reminders to work via Siri.  I have set up my home location via my contact information and via the map as the advice on this states but it is not workiing.  I tried various things to get it to work but nothing worked so I made an appointment for the Genius Bar at Regent Street, I was told that location based reminders via Siri do not work in the UK.
I could not find any information on line that stated it didnt work in the UK and today I received further information from someone else at Apple that location reminders via Siri should work.  One thing I did notice is that when I ask Siri to create a reminder it does this as a task, I was told at the Genius Bar that this is due to it not working in the UK.
Does anyone have any firm information or advice on this as currently Apple are telling me different things?

    Welcome to Apple forums
We don't know when Apple will implement this in Siri, so wait at least to iOS 6

  • Location Reminders at Wrong Time/Place

Location reminders worked great until a few months ago. Not sure if it was the iOS8 update or what, but it has issues now.
I use "Reminders" on iOS8 to remind me at my work. A lot of the time they don't go off when I get there, and pop up hours later when I am at my apartment. It happens all the time and basically makes this once cherished feature useless.
I recently purchased another location reminder app called "Checkmark" (I think its called). It has the exact same issue.
I also noticed that sometimes they go off immediately after I change my wifi settings at my apartment, though a lot of the time they just go off randomly.
    I believe I am on iOS 8.1

    Here's the rev level info:
    Patch: 116577-16 Obsoletes: 117706-08 Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWics5, SUNWica5
Patch: 117860-16 Obsoletes: Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWics5, SUNWica5

    Patch: 121657-19 Obsoletes: 117706-08, 116577-43 Requires: Incompatibles: Packages: SUNWics5, SUNWica5
And yes, this problem occurs for existing and newly created events:
    Summary: Testing
Start: Thursday, March 13, 2008 8:30:00 AM CST
End: Thursday, March 13, 2008 9:30:00 AM CST
The above reminder was for an event scheduled at 9:30am. The event in the calendar is at the correct time.
During the previous time changes, this worked fine. However, note that the upgrade was done in December.
    Thanks,
    Roger S.

  • IPad 2 location reminders

How do you enable location-based reminders in iOS 5 on iPad 2?  I saw in iOS 5 feature list but not in the reminder area on my device...

In looking at this link:  http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#reminders
It clearly mentions all iOS 5 devices and location based reminders. Come on Apple, I was really looking forward to this on my 64gb, 3G GSM iPad 2!!
    Sincerely,
    Mike Mick

  • Get Siri to set location reminders (using multiple reminder lists)

I found a way to get Siri to set location reminders using multiple reminder lists (but you can just use one list too):
First make additional lists in the reminder app: click list button (the lines on the left) > edit > create new list > done. Make as many as you want. I have grocery, home, personal, business, family.
Let's say you want a reminder to pick up apples when you get to the apple store. You must add the location in your contacts to your name in contacts.
    Do the following:
In maps app find the location with search.
Tap the blue arrow > Add to contacts > Add to existing contact
Choose your name in contacts. It will be added under your address for home or work so you will need to edit it:
    Click Edit.
Click on the small label on the left of the new address - it will just say "address"
Scroll to bottom of page and click on Create custom label
Enter the location name like "Apple Store". Click Done.
Important Note: You will need to delete the url it adds under your home url section and maybe other things it messes up with the new contact info instead of yours - so check all the fields each time you do this.
To make a location based reminder using a specific list you must open that list yourself - Siri will not open it for you.
    Example:
Open grocery list yourself in the reminders app
Tell Siri something like: "remind me to pick up apples" (Do not mention the location yet - if you do it will not work)
Siri will ask: "When should I remind you?"
Say: "When I get to the apple store"
Siri will say she will remind you and you will see the location reminder in the grocery list.
This is how it works for me but if you know an easier way let me know! This is beta so I'm sure it will get easier.

I have one thing to add.  You don't have to open the list manually.  Tell Siri:  "Add to my <listname> list".  For example, if you have a list named "Work", tell Siri:  "Add to my work list".  Siri will reply, "What should I add to your 'Personal' list?
and you can continue from there.
There is a syntax for doing all this in one sentence, but I find it only works about half the time. Too many fields for Siri to parse in her current Beta stage

  • I downloaded IOS 7, but reminders' won't repeat when I set them to. They aren't connected to my icloud or an email account. *** is going on??

I downloaded IOS 7, but reminders' won't repeat when I set them to. They aren't connected to my icloud or an email account. *** is going on??

You really shouldn't be using the phone during an update...my thought is that your cables are the root issue. It is possible that because it was in the middle of the imparts and something went wrong it has been "bricked". I'd search the threads for restoring from recovery mode and you might have some luck.

  • IOS 7 location services wont turn on.

IOS 7 location services wont turn on on my iphone 5. It was on before I upgraded to iOS 7 but now it is off and greyed out. Any ideas what may be wrong?

I had this problem and solved it by changing restrictions on Location Services from Settings>General>Restrictions>Location Services

  • Location Reminders, how to

How do I get reminder locations to work? I have two location reminders one for leaving and one for arriving, none of them have worked yet. Background app refresh in settings has no reminder icon to toggle on or off but my Location triangle is on. What can I do?

    Two things to try:
Check Settings > Privacy > Location Services and make sure "Reminders" is "On"
In Reminders, referring to the first screen shot you posted, click "Edit" in the upper right, then click the "i" in the circle at the right of a reminder.  Make sure the geofence is set correctly around your home in your reminder.

  • Siri Geotag Location Reminders

My 'work' location is at a university with multiple streets.  How do I set my geofence on iOS 5 for this location so it doesn't mess up my actual Work address under me in my Address Book.  Can I choose the size of 'fence' and associate it with an address (we have one generic address for the university).  I figure this isn't too far away from what Apple's engineers had to do as their campus is a decent size, so there must be some documentation that I'm just not finding.
I want to tell Siri to remind me to do something when I leave work and she doesn't know where my work is located.

I agree it takes awhile, I noticed that as well. But even after waiting, I (I say I), couldn't get Siri to work for the Company field. Thanks for noting!
Yes, but if Siri offered me the list of grocery stores to select from (In the same way it presents list if it can't pick an item with certainty) I'd be happy with that rather than having to make contacts manually (by using maps ironicallly) for all the places I most want to have location based reminders for. Like "When I arrive at Costco (Sams Club, BJs) remind me to pickup beef jerky".
