IOS 7  mail reject sender address

Hi everybody, I'm using an iOS7 (7.0.2) iPhone 5.
As I have had with previous iOS, I'm using as SMTP server the Gmail one, for all of my email addresses, all of those are setup into Gmail website settings.
Since I upgraded to iOS7, when I try to send email from my primary address or other "non-gmail" addresses, iPhone says "Unable to send email, the sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server".
Did some of you experience this? Hints to solve?
Regards
F

Thank you all for reply.
smtp.gmail.com still doesn't accept to send other addresses than the gmail one.
smtp.me.com sends email from any of my addresses, so I somehow solved.
Thanks

  • Mail- wrong sender address stuck in outgoing que that will never be sent

I can't believe 'no one' has ever had this problem...
When I got my new iPod I was of course excited, and messed up my Mail account sender address setup. Of course, I tried sending a couple of test E-mails before I figured it out. I 'fixed' it, now it all works fine- EXCEPT the original test mails that were incorrect are stuck in an 'Outbox' I somehow cannot access. Every time I start Mail on the iTouch I have to go through the error message "Cannot send mail The sender address was invalid." I know what it is and want to delete the wrong sender address e-mails, but can't. There must be a way....

I think I figured this out. First go deep into the outgoing mail server settings, click your primary server and be sure to enter you email user name and password again (same as what you but for incoming server). I also found that my desktop email program and the iPod Touch cannot be open at the same time (at least for me with Cox Communications), otherwise it detects two devices accessing at the same time and does not allow one to send or recieve. Hope this helps.

  • ICloud SMTP as Freemail.hu's outgoing mail server "rejects sender address"

Using verified settings of iCloud's as outgoing server (smtp.me.com, working iCloud username and password, SSL on or off, password authentication, server port 587) as of my freemail.hu (hungarian mail service provider) account on my iPhone 4 iOS5, letters sent from my freemail account arrive in Outbox as Unsent Message with the error message "The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server" - with checked working apple server at sending and otherwise perfect iCloud mail account. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...

I realise you don't intend to send spam, but unfortunately there are plenty of spammers in this world who would happily use Apple's servers to send out spam. That's why Apple lock it down to @me.com and @mac.com addresses only.
GMail will allow you to send external email through their servers once you have performed some identity verification through your external email account. That may be an option for you.

  • Mail problem - "Sender address was invalid"

So I get this message from time to time: then I try to send an e-mail from the mail app on my iPod Touch, it'll come back to me saying "The Sender Address was invalid" and won't send it. However, it's gotten worse of late; previously, I would hit the refresh button and then it would send, but recently that has stopped working. For about 45 minutes this morning I tried to send an e-mail and it just wouldn't send. I ended up having to log into my e-mail manually (through Safari on my iPod) to get it to send (which worked). However, I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this problem, if anyone knows what causes it, if anyone knows how to solve it, and if it would be worthwhile submitting a bug report to Apple about this. Thanks.

With so many threads and indy websites posting this problem, I'm not sure where's best to post my solution. So it's here and I hope someone gets help from it.
Same thing - "sender address blah blah blah" and none of the fixes worked. So I deleted the outgoing server (or so I thought!) and restarted the iPod. The server was not listed.
Then I reentered the information and used Port 25 (I had tried that before but went back to the default port of 587 before deleting the old server).
I connected to my WiFi and my mail went thru immediately. But what was interesting was the 'old' server showed up as the backup with port 587. I don't dare touch a thing - it's working!
BTW, I am using my own website and mail servers (hosted elsewhere).
Interestingly, if the iPod is accessing the mail servers, the computer access is blocked. Probably my host no allowing multiple connections from the same location, but I've done that before with my laptop and other Macs here w/o a hitch. But really a big deal, but interesting.
Thanks to all who have posted in this thread and all the other threads. Together, we ARE tech support! But the Apple guys and gals are great as well. And this iPod Touch is AMAZING!

  • E-mail error:  Cannot Send Mail:  The sender address was invalid

I can receive e-mail but cannot send it. Everything goes to my outbox. I did not change any settings. Nothing has changed that I know of. For months I could send e-mail -- now I cannot. I even e-mailed myself, and it says the sender address is invalid. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The "Recipient addresses are invalid" message is misleading.
Most ISP's don't allow you to send email through their SMTP server unless you are A) on their network (e.g. connected via wi-fi to a cable connection provided by your ISP) or B) you authenticate to their SMTP server.
On Blueyonder here in the UK (my ISP), you can send via their SMTP server from the iPhone over 3G as long as you authenticate to it. I setup my Mac mail to authenticate on outbound email sent via smtp.blueyonder.co.uk and it works fine. I then synced the mail settings to my iPhone and it works fine (although a little slow to send).
Alternatively your cellular provider usually runs their own SMTP server to which you will also have to authenticate, and you can send through it. For the iPhone in the UK O2 are the exclusive provider, and they have the smtp.02.co.uk gateway.

  • IPhone and Cox e-mail issues -- sender address not valid?

I have had an iPhone for several years and have never had a problem with e-mail and Cox internet. However, I transferred my service this week to a new address - same account information - and now my e-mail is not working correctly. Cox told me to reset my password via Webmail, and I did. I also followed the information here as to the correct set up for mail accounts. I can now receive e-mail,but I can't send e-mail. I receive the message - the sender address was invalid- and my outbox is full of unsent messages. I have everything in place according to the online articles posted here and on the Cox site. Can anyone help me correct this issue? Thanks!

What are you using for an SMTP server?
Go to Settings, Mail Contacts Calendar, Your mail account, Account Info, Advanced and look for Outgoing Mail Server.
If Cox does not permit AUTH-SMTP, set it to AT&T's mail server. Even if Cox does permit AUTH-SMTP, try using the AT&T mail server.
If that doesn't work, try resetting the phone.

  • Cannot send e-mail - "The sender address invalid" error message

Today I keep getting this error message "The sender address is invalid - when i try to send e-mail. I checked my settings and they are the same as always - my e-mail address hasn't changed; the outgoing and incoming server information is the same. I went through the Troubleshooting steps and still nothing. Also it's taking a really long time to connect to check for incoming e-mails. Any clues on why this is happening or what I should try next? The e-mail is via Roadrunner does that matter (althoug it didn't a couple of days ago)

This message means that your outgoing email server is not letting you connect to send email. Maybe RR changed their policy. You should be able to send using home WiFi, but when using 3G RR will not allow connections from outside their network.
One easy way around this, is to use the built-in AT&T SMTP server for outgoing email.
Or, check the RR FAQs and see if they allow an authenticated account to send email - maybe you just need to add SSL and username/pwd on the RR outgoing email server settings.
BTW - this is asked almost daily - the "Search Discussions" box to your right would have given you many hits with the same answer.

  • Cannot Send Mail: The sender address was invalid

I continually keep getting this prompt after every single email I send. The sender address is verified and is valid...HELP!!

This error message is not accurate.
This means there is a problem with the account's outgoing mail server.
Most, if not all internet service providers block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network or not provided by the ISP being used for your internet connection at the time unless the SMTP server is authenticated. A cell phone carrier's network is no exception. This restriction is part of an overall effort to prevent spam emanating from the ISP's domain.
Who is the email account provider for this account? Do you know if the account has an authenticated SMTP server?
What country are you located in and who is your cell phone carrier?

  • IOS 6 Mail default reply address - random

Ever since switching to iOS 6 my mail reply does not list the proper address as the default.
I use IMAP with Gmail.  I have multiple addresses entered in the Email field in the preferences.  In previous iOS versions, it obeyed the default I have set in Gmail.  Now with iOS 6, it picks a random address as the default.  Very annoying.  It's different on my iPad and my iPhone even though the same addresses are listed and of course, in Gmail I have an address set to default.  If I click to change which address I want to use, the list comes up fine.  It's just that Apple Mail does NOT respect the default setting.  Strange.
No other iOS had this problem.  It's only iOS 6. It's also ONLY Apple Mail.  Sparrow obeys Gmail defaults just fine.
Can we expect a fix for this soon?

Thank you mr.ipa.  I appreciate the tip.
That is not however the issue I am having.  I have entered in my email preferences a number of addresses I use when creating or replying to an email.  They are separated with commas.  This is exactly how email works on Mac OS X.  When I compose an email, the app chooses a default.   What used to happen is that iOS Mail respected the default account set in my Gmail web account.  All of iOS since about 3.0 did this perfectly.
Now with iOS 6 it does not.  It chooses an address at random.  It's not alphabetical, it's not anything.  I can change the order of the way they are typed in my list, yet iOS still picks a random address.  It is different on my iPhone and on my iPad yet they have the same info in the list in the same order.
It was a dark day for iOS and Mac OS X when Google bought Sparrow.  With Sparrow you can designate which address you would like to use as your default and change it in the fly when composing.  In Apple iOS Mail, you can change it on the fly, but it will NOT let you select a default address to use.
    Very frustrating.
Apple seems intent on NOT allowing defaults for many of their apps.  I think this is a big mistake.  I should be allowed to select a default email address, a default app for opening images, a default for listening to music and most of all - a default web browser!!!  Didn't MS get slammed in Europe over that very thing??
Anyway, I am still looking for Apple to supply a fix that allows you to set your prefered email address in Apple iOS Mail.

  • IPhone 3G cannot send mail - Sender address invalid

I can receive email but cannot send it. The error message is "CANNOT SEND MAIL the sender address was invalid". I have turned off Wi-Fi and as well as SSL. Does anyone know a fix?

    Was it working before?
Verify that the ISP you are using is not blocking SMTP port 25. If so, try switching your Outgoing SMTP server to cwmx.com (AT&T SMTP server). This option will only send mail over 3G or EDGE.

  • IPhone 3G Cannot Send Mail.  The sender address was invalid.

All of a sudden, I cannot send mail. I get the message "Cannot Send Mail" The sender address was invalid.
I have reset the phone in hopes of resolving the problem. That did not work.
The mail that I'm sending to IS a valid address; I'm trying to RESPOND.
    Please help.

The configuration and use of any outgoing server address (SMTP) may not be supported due to several factors including, but not limited to, the inability for the outgoing server (SMTP) to authenticate users (whether by IP or username/password) that are not directly connected to that Internet Service Providers(ISPs) network.
This is usually your HOME wi-fi and you are not connected to it because you are on your iPhone away from the house. This is mainly done to prevent unsolicited users from sending SPAM via the ISP's servers.
An alternative is to use ATT SMTP Server (for US) when you are on the 3G or data network for the carrier and not on your home wi-fi. So enable ATT SMTP server under Other SMTP servers under your Mail's account settings on the iPhone.
If you are interested you can obtain that information directly from the email provider. This article has a great temple that you can use to ask all necessary information from the provider including "If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you use another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Ask your email provider if the settings they give you will work on other networks."
What to ask if you're having issues sending, receiving, or configuring Mail

  • Just downloaded iOS 7.0 on iPhone and now cannot send email -sender address rejected by server???

JusJust downloaded iOS 7.0 on iPhone and now cannot send email -sender address rejected by server???

What happens when you go to the web based mail for your email account?
Are you able to login and send / receive messages from the web?
If so, you might need to check outgoing email settings on your iPhone
    Settings > Mail, Contacts Calendars
Tap on the account you are having an issue with
Tap on the email address beside the word Account
Tap on info beside SMTP  (SMTP = outgoing mail server)
Tap on the SMTP server name again.
Make sure server is turned on
Check settings & port info, password, etc.
    Good luck!

Check the outgoing mail server setting. Make sure that your username and password are in there.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars>Your email account>Account>Outgoing mail server - tap the server name next to SMTP and check in the primary server and make sure your username and password are entered and correct - even if it says that the password is optional.

When I try to send e-mail I get an error message stating that the e-mail address was rejected by the server.  When I send to e-mail from another address, I get back an error saying the e-mail address is unknown.  My e-mail has worked fine for years until yesterday.  HELP!

The specific text of the error message is very important here — I'm not sure exactly you're encountering here.
If you're able to connect to your email server and are able send email to other email addresses and if the failures are specific to one email recipient address, then please contact the intended recipient of the failing email, and confirm their address is valid.  (This is the way I'm reading your question.)
If you are unable to send any email to any other email addresses and this is specific to your email address, then try the web mail client interface (if one is available) to verify your login user and password, and check with your email ISP for assistance.  If your email password works via web mail, follow this Apple troubleshooting guide, then — if everything else fails — I'd probably then entirely remove the email account from Mail.app and re-add it per your email ISP's particular setup requirements.  (Some issue with the setup or maybe a corrupt setting in OS X or a problem at the mail ISP servers is a common problem, but this effects attempts to send to all email addresses via that account.)
An email account setup is specific to an email provider, unfortunately.   If you're using one of the more common email ISPs, then there are usually setup guides and frequently-asked questions posted online.
