IOS 7 - OTA Update or iTunes

Hello guys!
I have one more question
When iOS 7 comes out should I update via OTA or via iTunes?
When I make it via OTA update, there could be little system errors or the iPhone/iPad will be much slower.  Isn't it so??
When I make it over iTunes the iPhone/iPad will be clean and fresh installed but there could be problems with the iOS 6 backup (so I will set it up as new iPhone)!
Please leave your opinion what method is better for the idevices :)
Thomas P.

I've udated both ways. They both work fine. Unless your having trouble with your current phone, iOS 6 data is not going to make anything "buggy". The one thing to note about OTA updates, is that, yes, it requires 2-3 gigs of free space on the phone to complete the update. Updating using iTunes only requires the size of the update, which is much less.
Do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable.
Best of luck.

  • IOS 5 OTA update server and/or port?

Does somebody know iOS 5 OTA update server and/or port for iOS updates?

I had this problem too, you probably have Restictions enabled on your iPhone.
Go to Settings>General>Restrictions Then Disable Restrictions. This should enable both iCloud and Twitter.
When you are finished with iCloud you can Enable Restrictions again.
    Good luck

  • IOS 6.01 update causes iTunes to demand to restore iPad

I used the OTA update for my iPad 2, iPhone 4s and whatever the **** you call the iPad that was the new iPad that is now the not so new iPad.
It worked (allegedly) in every case but after the update completed, iTunes lost what little mind it has complaining that it could not sync/update/backup.talk to any of the devices and that they needed to be restored.  Killing iTunes and restarting did nothing.  Rebooting the Mac Pro and rebooting the iPhone 4s fixed the error message.  Restarting the iPad 2 got it working again but even though the iPad 3 was working fine, it could not perform wireless sync with iTunes nor would it sync if connected via cable.  The only option available was to Restore it.
This is idiotic because the iPad3 was in fact working fine.  It was/is iTunes suffering brain damage.  So now I am partly through the lengthy process to restore the iPad and then restore the backup and then reload all the apps.  To refer to this as "inconvenient" would be charitable on my part.
Has Quality Assurance in the iOS group been shutdown completely?  As much as Mr. Jobs was not personally accountable for quality, it's gone downhill since his untimely passing.  I do not blame Mr. Cook either, but there is annoying level of evidence that Apple is taking QA much less seriously these days for reasons unknown.
I will get through this.  Apple please stop working so hard on delivering half-baked trainwrecks.

Quit iTunes, restart your Mac, restart the iPad and try again and see if the problem corrects itself.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • New iPhone 6 Plus crashed during ios 8.1 update and iTunes isn't recognizing the device

I deleted a bunch of pictures and music on my phone to have enough storage space to back up my phone. I decided to update my phone first (ios 8.1) and it seemed to be going smoothly. It's hard to remember exactly what happened but when it was almost complete, something went wrong and it indicated that it hadn't installed correctly. It said I needed to clear more storage space in order to complete the installation so I restarted the phone. When it turned back on, I attempted to install the update again (the storage wasn't an issue) and it immediately went into "verifying install" mode before shutting off. Now I only have the screen that indicates I need to plug it into iTunes but the device isn't recognized when I plug it in. Powering it down, holding down different buttons, etc. doesn't work! Help!

  • Iphone 5 doesn´t work after an ios 8.2 update via itunes

I was updating my iphone 5 model A1429 via itunes on my windows 7 computer,
it was extracting the software when my computer died and it was showing the apple icon and a grey progress bar on the iphone.
When I turned on my computer again, the itunes said "unexpected error occured, couldn´t update the phone" or something like that and that´s it.
Since then itunes doesn´t recognize my device and on my iphone there is still the apple icon and the grey progress bar.
    What can I do?

  • Difference with a OTA update and iTunes update

Can anyone clear this one? As far as I know OTA only downloads the needed files whilst the iTunes downloads the whole firmware itself... But how about when I need to restore the device back to factory?... Will I need to download the whole firmware?...

    Thanks for clearing that up...

  • I just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios5, and updated to itunes 10.5. when isynced my music files, ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod.help

i just recently upgraded my itouch from 4.1 to ios 5, and updated to itunes 10.5. but when i synced my music files, ebooks and other apps, all is working except when im trying to sync my video files. it says, canot be synced as cannot be played on this ipod. but those are the same files that i have when i was using the old 4.1 version and its syncing just fine.. the itunes advanced tab "create iphone or ipod version" is not working either so i cant convert it to be xferred and synced. what can i do to have my video files synced?

i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

  • Post ios 4.3 update, Missing Music, Cannot Sync 13019 Error

I have an iPod Touch 64G, running 4.3.1 the problem dates to the first ios 4.3 update) and iTunes 10.2.1 on a Windows 7 PC.
Ever since I updated my iPod to ios 4.3, I have been unable to access my music from my iPod. Once I plug in my iPod to one of my computers I can see my entire library in iTunes and can play songs from the computer (the songs are only on the iPod and not saved on that particular computer). As the song starts to play, my iPod attempts to synchronize, but then I get the 13019 error. When I look for the songs on my iPod, the screen says I have no music.
I have tried the language switch and music fixes listed here
    http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/24/fix-for-no-content-on-iphone-ipod-after-ios-4-2-1 -update/
as well as deleting my sole voice memo (another suggested fix in the forums) all to no avail.
The original sync'd computer (running XP) is temporarily out of commission until I replace a part. I have two other laptops (Windows 7 and Vista) which I'm using to access the music on my iPod. I would like to be able to access my music on my iPod without having to plug it in to a computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for replying. I have tried those techniques. I have deleted my voice memos . However because my sync settings are on manual I can't deselect the auto sync music option. I was able to sync my apps with this computer, but trying to sync Books leads to the same error.

  • IPhone 5 constant crashing after iOS 8.0 Update and Factory Reset!!

So...thanks Apple! You completely bricked my phone with the most recent update.
    Status since 9/17....
    * Performed iOS 8.0 update via iTunes on my iPhone 5.
    * No issues whatsoever until Saturday 9/20 around 5pm
    * Phone starts reseting incessantly about every 5-10 minutes.
    * Performed hard reset. No luck.
    * Uninstalled apps since update. No luck.
    * Noticed upon some crashes the screen goes totally janky (maybe graphics chip failure?)
    * This morning decided to run full factory reset, hoping all would be fixed.
    * Resetting issues start almost immediately and are continuing.
I'm not too excited about going into the Apple store given all the iOS 8.0 issues and fan-boys buying the newest 6 (holding out for 6s if possible).
Has anyone else out there had a similar experience?
    Thank you in advance,

SO, the constant reboots have stopped, but now have significant charging issues.
    * % charge doesn't increase on multiple different charging cables
    * hard reset doesn't solve

  • My new iPod Touch is iOS 6.0.1 but will not update to 6.1.3.  I have attempted the OTA and the iTunes update methods but both are not updating the iOS.  Am I doing something wrong?

I meant to mention that it is a 16gb 4th gen iPod.

Yup.  Some unknown error according to the message and an error code that does not list on the Apple support pages.  I am updated on Windows 7, iTunes, and have no other USB devices connected.  I tried to follow any other advice that Apple listed but nothing helped.  The OTA update acts like it is updating and even reboots the device but once it is fully booted, I check and it still says current version 6.0.1 and the check update still shows that 6.1.3 is available.  I am giving up and taking it back to Sam's where I bought it yesterday for a full refund.

  • IOS update via iTunes vs via WiFi

Just for my curiosity.  What is the difference between updating the iOS with iTunes vs WiFi?
the reason why I am asking this because I read somewhere that sometime users have issue after the update their iOS over WiFi.  Same user that update to the same iOS via iTunes does not have the same issue.  I am talking about Battery Life, or Wifi Problem, or BlueTooht Issue, or Software Bug.
It is possibile that there is a minimum differece in software when the updated is maded over the WiFi vs iTunes?
    Thank you

The OTA updates provides a delta update only while iTunes provided the whole build.
Some users have issues after installing the whole build with iTunes as well. If there is a problem after installing the delta update OTA, restoring the iPhone with iTunes to install the whole build for the update may resolve the problem.
I have installed all iOS updates OTA since the option became available and I haven't experienced any problems after doing so yet.

  • IOS OTA update failed, now iPad wants to restore, but that fails too

After successfully doing the iOS 5.0.1 update on my iPhone via OTA, I started the process with my iPad2. After a while it appeared to have stalled, but I had to go out, so I left it, assuming it would be done when I got back. As it turns out, when I returned my iPad was asking to be connected to iTunes via USB. When connected, I got the message that it needed to be restored...
So, I've now tried restoring it about 4 times - the progress bar on the iPad gets about 2/3 of the way and then stalls for a long time, and then I get a message in iTunes that the restore didn't work. I've disconnected all other USB devices. I've rebooted my iMac. My iMac is fully up to date (OS, iTunes, etc)
Any ideas what I can do to get my iPad restored so I can then restore from backup and retry the iOS update (connected to the iMac this time)?
    Thanks,
    Scott

I sure disagree with the journanlists reporting Over The Air Updates working well.
We all have different experiences. I had the issue that you report when I upgraded to iOS 5. I eventually had to put my iPad in recovery mode to get the upgrade to complete. I did not have any issue with the iOS 5.0.1 update. I did not use OTA, I used USB, so my Mac downloaded the entire 750 MB iOS file and I was still updated in less than 10 minutes. The OTA update should normally also be about 10 minutes as the file is a 50 MB incremental update. I do not think that many folks had your issue because we are not being swamped by reports of the issue here in the ASC as we would be if the issue was widespread. So the journalists seem to have it right, it appears to have gone smoothly for most folks, however they updated.

  • IPhone 6+ not working after updating to iOS 833 OTA

    Yo yo yo!!!! Hello! Everyone,
after updating my iPhone 6+ to iOS 833 OTA last night, there was an error when restarting.
I then try to use iTunes but it says can not update and need to be restored.
I was trying to do a full restore from manufacturer setting but also says there was an error in restoring your iPhone.
    What should i do now?
Your suggestions are much appreciated. Thank you.
