IOS 7 POP Account with SSL

I work for an ISP. We have a POP server. We use SSL and it always worked with IOS 6. Now that IOS 7 is installed we have to turn off SSL and change the port on both the incoming and outgoing server on every customers device. Now we are starting to see the same issue with the new MAC OS. Anybody else experience this or know what can be done to let SSL work, or is this just a bug?

On the first dialog asking for email address, enter everything, then hold down the Option key and press the continue button.
That will go into the manual account creation mode where you can choose the type of account.

  • I have a POP account with TalkTalk on my Mac Pro, Can I use it on my iPod as well?

I want to get my email on my new ipod touch. I have a POP account with my service provider TalkTalk on my Mac Pro. Can I access my email from it on my ipod touch and if so, how?

You can set up Mail on the iPod with the same account info, but you can not access the mail server from both devices at the same time. iPhone and iPod touch: 'Mailbox Locked', account is in use on another device, or prompt to re-enter POP3 password
I use POP as well, and I'll have to wait a minute until I can access the server again using the other device/Mac.

  • Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

  • Help setting up a POP account with my iPhone.

    Hi--
I have a POP account. It works fine with Apple's Mail.app.
I would like to fetch mail from it also on my iPhone.
I know to tell both clients to leave on server for a few days; that's not my problem.
My problem is I can't get the iPhone to access the account at all.
    On my iPhone,
    Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendar->Accounts->Add Account...->Other,
I filled in fields corresponding those in
    Mail->Preferences->Account->LABear2->Account Information
Assuming the following field names were equivalent:
    on iPhone in Mail
    Name Full Name
    Address Email Address
    Password

All mail accounts can be synced through iTunes. It syncs setting but not messages, so if it's on your Mac mail app, you should be able to mirror it on your phone. Check in itunes>info>mail accounts>sync selected mail accounts. Also on the phone settings>fetch new data>advanced, check that the account is set to fetch.

  • My Yosemite POP account with Gmail and Apple Mail is gone

I just noticed in the last few days that my Apple Mail Gmail account has changed from POP to iMap without my intervention.  It no longer has the drop-down box to choose one or the other.  I want to keep my Apple Mail as a POP account, but I can no longer change it.  Is this possible?  If so, what do I do.  FYI, on my iOS devices I use iMap accounts for my gmail mail. Thanks!

You can try reconfiguring the account as POP. Delete the account, then add it back. After filling in the 1st screen, hold down the option/alt key while clicking Continue. Fill in the necessary information, then click continue until all screens are filled in.

  • How to convert/move Mail POP accounts *with folders/subfolders* to Gmail for Business?

I currently have several email addresses for my two domains, an Earthlink account (which I will phase out eventually) and a couple of Gmail accounts. They are all POP accounts.
I would like to convert to Gmail for Business, but I can't figure out how to migrate 10s of 1000s of emails that are housed in 200+ folders and subfolders from Mail to Gmail for Business.
The mail migration tools out there don't seem to cover Mac Mail.
Has anyone out there done this?

    OK.
    From Mail:
Add the new account to Mail. One at a Time copy each folder from the POP account to the Google IMAP account, do not copy more than a few hundred emails at a time, they have to be uploaded to the IMAP server, uploads are slow, it takes a while and tends to fail if there are too many.
    Repeat until complete
PS: not just your dull life, the dull lives of everyone who sends an email to you as well, wonder how they would think about that (if you told them)

  • Setting up mail account with SSL off on iPhone 4

Is it okay to do this? It was the only way to get my mail accounts to work.

It is OK especially if the account or accounts do not support being accessed via SSL. Accessing an account via SSL is more secure and should be used if supported by the account. If not supported by the account, SSL cannot be used.

  • Convergence - Using External Accounts with POP/SSL

    Using Convergence v. 1.0-10.01
I'm trying to use the External Accounts feature of Convergence for a POP account requiring SSL.
The POP logs on the Sun messaging server hosting the external account show:

    20090930 154557 /opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/PopProxyAService.cfg (sid 0x6753c8) session end
I'm also unable to get it to POP from a Gmail account.
    The Convergence pop-up error shows:
A error has been encountered while fetching the message for [email protected] account. Please check your server settings.
    POP3 communication failure
This feature does not seem to work in either our local Convergence or from the commsuite.demo.sun.com site.
    Any ideas?

Can you clarify what I should look for on the Convergence zone and on the MMP zone that is hosting the "external account"?
To be sure, the "external account" can be accessed via POP w/SSL using a client. Also, I am accessing the convergence client through https.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • POP accounts on IOS

I recently tried to set up a POP mail account on a new iPad Air, and was frustrated because the default account is IMAP, and there is no obvious way to force a POP account.  Earlier IOS versions would bring up a window with IMAP/POP option, but that window is gone with later IOS versions.  Even the supervisor at Apple tech support gave up and wished me luck in figuring it out.
Here is the solution - lie.  Set up a new account and use a false email address or password.  The iPad will try to acces the account information, fail to do so, and bring up a window for manually entering settings - and voilà there is the option for creating a POP account.

  • Can you use a gmail account with Mail?

I read the previous post about the yahoo email account and I was wondering if the same applies for a Gmail account. It is a free account, and I think that set up all of the information right, however I still cannot complete the setup. Maybe i am setting up the POP information wrong, but I'm not sure.
    Thanks

You must enable POP forwarding for the account preferences via webmail access for the account.

The instructions for enabling POP forwarding and creating the account as a POP account with an email client such as the Mail.app are available at Gmail's website.

  • Can I use a different id (email) for my iOS Developer account than my iTunes account?

    Hello,
I am an iPhone and iPad app developer. I have a customer that would like to submit apps on their account. the problem is, they would like the iOS account to not be linked to their regular iTunes account, where they download all their music, etc.
Should I advise them to create a seaparate account with a different emaiul address? OR, is it possible to have an iOS developer account with different credentials.
I believe my customer already set up their iOS account, paid 99.00, and now realizes thay don'w want the accounts linked.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Phil

Yeah. I don't think that is possible. I know you can have seperate user accounts on 1 computer. But the data from each would be different.

  • Trying to set up two POP accounts - won't work

    Hi there,
I am trying to set up a second Yahoo account on Mail. It shares the same incoming and outgoing server as my original account I use through Mail. But the user name is different. I can't log in with this new email address. It keeps throwing up the message:
'trying to log into the POP server "pop.mail.yahoo.com.au" has failed. Please make sure the username and password are correct. If you continue, you may not be able to receive any mail.'
This IS true, if I continue with the set up of this account, I'm not able to receive any incoming mail.
I have tried this countless times. I DEFINITELY have the right username and password for this second account.
Is it not possible to set up another POP account with a different user name but the same server name?

What targeting the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
Quit the Mail.app first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Note: Moving the com.apple.mail.plist file out of the Preferences folder will require re-entering all email account information when re-launching Mail.
The only exception to this is if you have a .Mac account which will be recreated automatically and/or if you created an email account as part of the computer setup assistant when first turning on the computer when new.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folders and mailbox files at Home > Library > Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscovered, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
Test if this resolves the problem.

  • Routing POP account through .Mac e-mail

    Hello,
I recently posted a topic regarding how to keep my POP mailboxes identical on both my Mac Pro and iBook. Dissapointingly I found out that this is not possible, and the cloesest thing I could get to this would be to use the Mail preferance "Remove from server when moved from inbox". So my question is...I came up with a wild idea that I may be able to set up my ISP POP account to automatically foward all messages to my .Mac account. This would solve my problem because .Mac accounts (to my knowledge) are set up as IMAP (or something like it) which would allow me to sync both computers. If I were able to do this it would help me accomplish what I'd like to do, which is keep both computers up to date with current inboxes AS WELL AS what has been deleted on a certain computer. Any one have any input on how I might be able to go about doing this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Having your .Mac account check your POP account (which is available via webmail access for your .Mac account preferences) or setting up your POP account to forward all received messages to your .Mac account would solve the problem.
A .Mac type account with Mail is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
You can create/access a .Mac account as a .Mac, IMAP or POP account with Mail and create/access the account as an IMAP or POP account with other email clients on your Mac or on a Windows PC.
I access my .Mac account as a .Mac type account with Mail and as an IMAP account with Outlook on my Windows PC at work and all server stored mailboxes are kept synchronized on both computers without having to do anything special.
This is the benefit of an IMAP account - accessing the same account with an email client on different computers.

  • Pop account to 1&1 IMAP e-mails are deleted each month, but have correct settings.

I have recently changed my pop account to a IMAP account as I was fed up deleting e-mail of each computer. Now I have found that with the IMAP account it deletes my e-mails every month so I can't go back to previous months. But the odd thing is that the mail setting is tick to never and on my 1&1 server its set to the same.
How can I stop this from deleting my e-mail every month? As with the Pop account it just kept all the e-mails I received.? Luckily I didn't change my laptop to a IMAP account, so if I can't stop it deleting my e-mails every month how can I import my e-mails from the laptop which as the pop account with my old e-mails?
    Any help would be grateful.
    Cheers!

I apologize; I should have mentioned I already tried that, multiple times
It's almost like, since the messages show a qty in the status bar, that their text has been changed to white, the background color. But when i use Search Messages to get at what's there, the text color is black as it should be.
    Any further comments welcomed.
    Thanks much

  • Archiving messages in a POP account

    [lion mail app]
if i archive messages in a POP account and then after the archive change the account to IMAP, will the new IMAP account upload the archive to the server?
trying to convert an old POP account with 1000's of messages to a more modern IMAP account due to use on multiable devices.
i don't want the archive to be uploaded to the IMAP server, as it would put 1000's of unwanted old emails on my iphone.
in other words lets just say that i only want messages from 2012 to be in the IMAP account and not all the messages from 2005-2011.

    Hi,
Yes you can set the message box to pop up with various reasons.
Click onto CUSTOMIZE LOCAL LAYOUT button (Alt+F12)
    and choose OPTIONS...
There is a MESSAGES frame, where you can select when you want the popup window.
