IOS 7 randomly deletes sent emails and imports read email

Hi all,
I have updated my iphone 5 3GS to the latest version of ios 7 and it seems to randomly wipe all my sent emails and then downloads all the emails that I have previously read and deleted.
Anyone else had this and has any solutions- it's incredibly annoying as I sometimes need to refer to sent emails and no longer have them on my phone.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
G

If this email account is Hotmail:
Hotmail has used POP for emails in the past and this does not sync if messages are read or not. This is an old standard and shouldn't be used any more.
You can now use Exchange or IMAP for hotmail and this should mark them as read and stop this from happening again. Add a new mail account on your iPhone, and select Exchange instead of Hotmail/Outlook.com and sign in with your hotmail details. You may need to change the Mail Days to Sync options after you set it up to get all your emails back. Your hotmail account may also have put all your emails into a POP folder. Sign in to hotmail on a computer and move all the emails in that folder back into your inbox.
If exchange does not work, you can try using IMAP, the details are
Incoming Mail Server IMAPServer: imap-mail.outlook.com
Outgoing Mail Server SMTPServer: smtp-mail.outlook.com
To add the account, select other when you add a new mail account, and put in a nonsense email address for example "[email protected]" to avoid the mail app automatically setting up the account for you.
Then select IMAP and input the proper details. your username is your hotmail address.
If this email account is something other than Hotmail:
It sounds like your email account is using POP which does not sync if messages are read or not, try to find out if your email account supports IMAP and enter those details like i explain in the bottom part of the hotmail explanation.

How do i delete sent emails in one go? There must be a few thousand sent items in there with large attachments. Of course it would be silly to do it one by one, so whats the quicker solution?

You could always try the Mark All thing again for sorting. Do the same as before, for delete (come to think of it, do it before you Delete All, otherwise you'll have nothing to sort). Having Marked All, instead of Delete try Sort. Does this make any difference?

The iPad must always be synced to one computer using the Apple ID that it was originally synced to. Otherwise all apps & files will be deleted. There's no way to retrieve once erased.
Is there a backup on a different computer?

  • Mountain Lion Mail randomly deletes messages: locally and from server

    Hello,
Mountain Lion Mail deletes mails randomly, locally and from the IMAP server.
I have confirmed this for a fact:
    - I have been forwarded lost mails to another (webmail) account: the timestamps indicate that some mails were lost somewhere before I ever saw them on Mail
    - my mail service provider confirmed that their logs show mails that I never saw on Mail
    - the lost mails don't appear via webmail, either, i.e. they're not on the server
Others are experiencing the same in Lion:
    http://www.seifi.org/email/lion-mail-app-deletes-imap-emails-without-notice-gmai l-important-fix.html
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206902
I became aware of this as my customer referred on the phone to messages from them that I had never seen. And, Mail deletes messages randomly from the IMAP server too - it's literally eating messages!
No, this is not a rule issue. No, this is not anything I could have done to cause. This should be evident as very many others are experiencing the same (see the above links).
This is the worst bug I've ever encountered in any Apple product.
Apple need to acknowledge this and address it, like, immediately.
Is there a fix for this? One that works 100% - I really can't risk not receiving business e-mail.
    br Janne

I'm experiencing something similar. I see a message being received in Mountain Lion via notification. When I'm going to look for this mail, it's gone.
I dont't have any rules set up and no mail plugins installed. The mail is also vanished from the server. I'm using IMAP on my own web-site (via a service provider). I was able to verify, that a certain message from a certain sender dissapeard, which had a PDF attached. I thought it might have something to do with my ISPs virus protection, but they a) insured me, that they don't delete any mail and b) I got a new mail from someone I don't know this morning. Again: Saw the notification, afterwards the mail is gone.
For now, I will switch to ThunderBird (this was also the recommendation of my ISP).
    Kind regards
    Marco Heine

Should there be sent items in your sent items list?  I'm thinking you may need to just reboot your iPad.
Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart.  Youwon't lose any data or settings.

  • Seemingly random deletion of emails

I have an iPhone 3G and I have it to sync with my GMail account every 15 minutes. It seems that whenever I open mail on my MBP, I lose almost all my emails. It seems that only messages I've opened in GMail using Safari stay in my inbox. I can't even find the emails on GMail's website after they're removed, nor do they show up in the trash. They completely disappear. I just lost 14 emails, and some of them were very important messages from my college, because I had opened Mail to search for a specific message before checking them on my iPhone. The 14 messages did not show up in Mail on my MBP, and when I opened Mail on my iPhone I saw all 14 messages, then as it updated they all disappeared, along with all my read messages that I had not opened directly in GMail.
This has happened at least 3 times. I am not sure if it's directly connected to opening Mail in 10.5, but that seems to be the trend.
Any help would be much appreciated,
    Isaac

Let me revise something. I've found about 1/4 of the messages in my "All Mail" folder under the "GMail" folder, but not all of them and none of the 14 unread messages.

  • I want to delete original audio, and import the modified version

So I used Audacity to edit the entire audio of my home video (I used Export Using Quicktime > Sound to AIFF).
How do I delete (or mute) the original audio, and overlay the new audio?

How do I delete (or mute) the original audio, and overlay the new audio?
It isn't clear if you are doing a "post-edit" on a file that was already edited in iMovie '08, a file yet to be sent to iMovie '08 and/or whether or not you want to do the editing in iMovie '08.
    1) If the file was already edited in iMovie and all you want to do is remove the original track and add the new audio, then if you have QT Pro ($30), you can open the file, go to the "Properties" window, select the original audio track, delete it, and paste in the new audio track.
    2) You can also do the same thing to a source file as a "pre-edit" of the content to be sent to iMovie '08 further editing.
    3) Or, in iMovie '08 itself, you can simply turn down the volume of the original audio track in the project window and "pin" the AIFF audio file to the clip in the project window.

  • ITunes - random deletion of playlists and 100+ songs

Yesterday, I had somewhere around 1100 songs in my iTunes library, including quite a few I had purchased from the Music Store.
Today, I opened iTunes to find only 900 songs, and that my playlists were no longer there.
No one has had access to the computer but me during this time.
    Help?

Perhaps you may still have those 'missing' music files on your PC -- but not seen in iTunes or the PC.
Do a thorough search of your PC PC using the tips below:
First - Make sure that you enable your Windows Explorer to view 'Hidden' files:
    - Open Windows Explorer
    - Select 'My Computer'
    - On the main Windows Explorer menu: Tools=>Folder Options=>'View' tab
    - In 'Advanced Setting' --> Files and Folders --> Hidden files and folders:
-- Select 'Show hidden files and folders’
    - Click 'Apply to All Folders'
    - Click 'OK'
Then check using Windows Explorer in 'My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\...' for folders containing your music (or wherever you keep your music folders).
Also check in your Recycle Bin to see if you accidentally deleted it. If so, ‘Restore’ it back to it’s original spot.
Then try running a search using Windows Explorer (or similar) for files with the extensions of: m4a, m4p, MP3, OR with the partial names of the songs you are missing.
Do all the above before you decide that your music files have been completely erased from your hard drive.
IF you can locate the music files/folders, we can get iTunes to recognize it. Try one of these:
If you have a backup iTunes database file available....
    1. --- Close iTunes. If you have a backup (or previous version) of the ‘iTunes Library’itl’ database file, then place a copy of that file in the ‘...\My Music\iTunes’ folder (or wherever the current, incomplete file resides).
If no backup ITL file exists….
2a. --- In iTunes choose: Edit==>Preferences==>Advanced tab. Select 'Change' and browse to the music folder in your PC drive (if it isn’t already). Click OK to save that setting.
    Then....
2b. --- In iTunes choose: File==>’Add Folder to Library’ & browse to the music folder in your PC drive. Click OK.
Without the ITL file, re-‘Adding’ the music files to the Library will lose you the Ratings, Play Counts, Date Added and Last Played attributes, as well as your Playlists. No real way to recover them if you haven’t made prior backups. Something to consider for the future....
IF your music files are truly gone, and you have some or all of your music files on your iPod, these links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring playlists, ratings, playcounts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
XPlay (Software For Cross-Platform Functionality & Music Recovery)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
AFTER recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least three sets of your music:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and the computer is not considered having any backup. If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer, then create and maintain two external sets.
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275

  • Will upgrading to iOS 4.1 delete my contacts and calender settings?

I tried to upgrade my iPod Touch 2g to 4.1 but iTunes gave me a warning message saying that upgrading will "restore" my app settings. Does this mean things like my calender appointments, contacts and bookmarks will permanently disappear from my device?
This might be an extremely stupid question but this is the first time im upgrading and id be very grateful for help

You will always get this warning, but restore anyway. You will be offered the option to restore from backup on down the line. There are always risks in a process such as this. If we didn't backup, we'd never update, restore, reset, etc.

  • How to delete all emails on iPhone 5 ios 7?

Is there any way for the mail app on iPhone 5 with iOS 7 to delete all emails at once? I have a hotmail account, and over 8,000 emails.

  • IMessage randomly deleted old messages?

Hi there - after upgrading to iOS, Messages randomly deleted some of my old messages for some of my contacts.  For example, I previously had over a year of correspondence with my best friend, and as of last Saturday it just completely restarts.  Some of the older messages are on my iPad (some of them that were sent from the iPhone aren't, for some reason).
Settings-wise, I still have it set to retain messages forever, and I have a ton of open storage space.  Ideas?

No, it would not continue a thread on her phone from your non-iPhone, but would be its own. The threads are created based not just on the contact, but the device. So, if she had not deleted a thread from you from your Android device, then you texted her from your iPhone, it would be two separate threads. Then if you iMessaged from your iPod, it would be like a 3rd device, since that comes from your email.
I do not understand why old threads would be deleted, since there isn't anything in the iPhone that will automatically delete a thread. The only exception is if your SMS inbox is full, but we are talking a lot of messages before that happens.

  • Outlook 2010 - Some sent emails are greyed out

    Hello,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 terminal server with Office 2010 installed,on which 10 users connect and work. Every user have his own email profile.
On only 2 users, randomically some sent emails are duplicated, and one of the two copies is greyed out and barred. Looks like it has someway been deleted, but the users didn't delete those emails as the greyed out duplicate shows up immediately
after the user clicks on send.
If the user double-clicks on the greyed out item, it opens with no issues, and as soon as the user closes the email, it's not greyed out and "barred" anymore, but there are still 2 copies.
The issue is completely randomic, not all the sent mails are affected.
The email profile is configured in IMAP and it's attached to a non-exchange mail server.
The other users have never been affected by this issue, but the IMAP configuration is the same for all the users in the domain.
    How can I troubleshoot this?
    Thanks

thanks but it's not due to deletion, as I told in the first post "Looks like it has someway been
deleted, but the users didn't delete those emails as the greyed out duplicate shows up immediately after the user clicks on send"

  • Sent emails disappear

I have a user who randomly has sent emails disappear on him. For example, between a period of 1 hour, he sent 3 emails. All those emails reached the recipient but they are no where to be found in his mailbox. I checked the message log on my Exchange server
and it shows that the email was sent and received.
I checked his deleted items and checked his rules to see if any rules could affect them. Emails were not found in deleted items and no rules could have affected those emails.
One interesting thing was that when he sent those emails, they were at 12-1am but he had sent an email at 1:16am which was still there. When he came in to work that morning, his Outlook had crashed. Maybe Outlook crashed and didn't save the emails? But they
would have synced with Exchange and should then appear in OWA which they don't. Any ideas what could have happened?
He uses Outlook 2013 with Exchange 2013 in cache mode.

Yes. In normal situations sent messages should be visible. Also is "Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder" option marked for that mailbox: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/outlook-2010/messages-arent-saved-in-the-sent-items-folder/?
