Ios 7 restore error 1

Hi Everybody,
My iphone 4s is giving me the searching... problem and it fixes itself for 5 mins and goes back to searching... After yesterday i have not been able to fix it at all and i thought it would be a good idea to restore but itunes is giving me error one meaning i cant restore my phone or use it at all... Can anybody help me?

I had the same problem:
"Searching..". error, then it cycled through 3G no 3G then searching...
Tried updating software... no luck
so tried to restore from recovery mode
Then got first "error 1" at the firmware stage (after trying all ports and ca 10 times to restore on two different computers with multiple resets and software updates etc)
Then I held the home button until the "connect to itunes screen" went away whilst plugged in which brought up iTunes
and the error changed to "error 3", but still stalled at the firmware stage
Then I cycled through the ports again and the very back one worked! Hooray! Points for persistence.
I now have a factory restored phone which has connected to the network!
Wizardry!

  • 5s 8.1 iOS: Restore errors 4005. Won't update or restore

    Hi Guys,
I downloaded the 8.1 update via the latest iTunes and connected my 5s to update.
The update failed and i got the 4005 restore error: iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014
Now when turn on the 5s it just shows the symbol to connect to iTunes.
So I plug in and get this:
I click 'Restore' then get this
So I click 'Restore and Update', then I get Restore Error 4005 again and get stuck in an infinite loop!
I did create a backup yesterday so I'm not worried about any lost data.
I have deleted the update and I'm downloading again now. I will also try with a different USB cable and on a different PC.
Any suggestions or a fix would be much appreciated?
    Thanks.

Also FYI: The USB cable is a new authentic Apple lighting cable
Okay so I deleted and downloaded the update via iTunes again, plugged in the 5s via USB and still get:
After Restore and Update: 'Extracting software...'
    Then:
    Then:
    Then:
    'Extracting software...
    Then: Preparing iPhone for install.
    Now:
And the 'Connect to iTunes symbol' disappears leaving the screen still turned on but all black.
    Then after a few minutes:
    Hope that helps...

Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw)below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.

Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
After reviewing your post, it sounds like you had one issue and then got a second trying to resolve the first. A frustrating situation for sure.
