IOS 7 update backup won't restore

So my iPhone 4s will not restore my backup to iOS7, I am getting the message your backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored.
The issue I experienced getting to this point:
- Backups completed twice fine
- Downloaded update to PC fine
- Phone dropped out while restoring iOS 7 to it
- In the "connect to itunes" mode the phone comes up in after failure I applied the update again and it worked fine (removed additional USB devices from PC)
- Chose the backup I wanted to restore to it (backup from the latest iOS6 version for iPhone 4s)
- Restore fails due to "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "*phone name*" because the backup was corrupt or is not compatible with the iPhone that is beinng restored"
I have rolled back to 6.1.3 to restore my backup but I am getting the same error. I have moved the latest backup on my PC from AppData and am trying with an older backup getting the same error.
I cannot afford to not be able to restore my backup as I have favourites data in TomTom that I need and a lot of apps that I am going to loose data from. I need help to resolve.
There has never been any issues with backing up my phone (I have backups done over WiFi and USB) so there should be no reason why my backups would be corrupt. If my backup is corrupt and iTunes hasn't verified it and warned me prior to a restore, **** is going to hit the fan.
Could the fact that I have attempted to restore the backups to iOS 7 caused the corruption and not not able to restore on iOS 6?

It was taking so long to back up to icloud (prob bec it was my first time to back up to it) that I cancelled it. I rebooted my 4s, then on my computer, I deleted the back up created that day, rebooted my computer, then reconnected my 4s to itunes. Did another full back up. After that I connected my 5s to itunes then let it sync. I then did a restore to the back up I just created. Luckily it worked this time. Not perfect, it did not transfer over the music, videos, tones, and not all apps from my 4s appeared on the 5s, however, the most important thing to me at that point was to get all the Notes I had in my 4s into my 5s and all the saved stuff on the homescreen. The music and other stuff I just dragged from my iTunes library into the 5s.
Maybe it would have been better if I restored the 5s to factory settings then did the restore from back up. I've been an iphone user since the original one and this is the most frustrating time I've has transferring stuff over from the old phone. Would it have anything to do with AT&T new policy to activate it at the store? Previously, I walked away with the phone still wrapped and set it up from scratch at home and had no problems. Oh well...
I must say after that, I am happy with the 5s so far, super fast, the camera is better than the 4s. Still playing around with it. I am not into all the technical stuff so if some people are, they might find some not so great stuff about it, but to each his own.
If somebody else can figure out a better way to do the transfer, hopefully, they'll post it here. Good luck, hopefully your issues get resolved soon!

  • Contacts wiped out on iphone 5 after ios 6 update, how do I restore.

Help, I stupidly installed the ios 6 update on my iphone 5 without researching it first and now my contacts (except for facebook contacts) got wiped out and my text messages do not tell me who they are coming from. Any ideas how to fix this?

I thought I did them on itunes but they are not showing up there either. I wasn't on icloud prior to the update. I tried a restore through itunes and that didn't work. Have been going through the boards trying to find a solution but most answers are to the ios 5 update and are not working for me. I'm beginning to think that I am going to have to do them manually. I don't understand why it wiped out my regular contacts but not the facebook ones.

  • Backup won't restore

I have backed up my iPhone 4 on a macbook but after istaaling ios 7.1.3 The backup won't reinstall itself through iTunes. I have lost photo's , notes and phonenumbers. Can anyone help? Maybe these files are somewhere on my computer? I have a 2.1 Ghz Macbook with 10.6.8 OS

Is your backup still listed in iTunes/Settings/Devices?
If yes, try to use 3rd party software like Backup Extractor for example to get at least some data back.
Your backup file is located here:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Note: The "~" represents your Home folder. If you don't see Library in your home folder, Option-click the Go menu.

    this, perform a successful restore.
The question is ... is there any way besides upgrading the 3.2 system to 4.0 and then 4.1 to simply get the netconfig jobs off of the 3.2 system and into the 4.2.3 system?
Netconfig jobs are all that matter at this point.

The netconfig jobs should restore onto an LMS 4.2 installation. The 4.2 Installing and Migrating Guide indicates that LMS 3.2 SP1 backups can be restored, specifically including netconfig jobs.
You may be getting issues due to the fact that you have updated it all the way to the latest 4.2.3. I say this because the error message says you need a CS (Common Services) 4.1 or above backup. The CS version included with LMS 3.2 SP1 is 3.3.1.
Since it's a new install, can you rebuild with the base 4.2 and give it a try? That should work (and if it doesn't the TAC should support the problem since it's explicitly a supported migration path).

  • Incremental backups won't restore

Everytime Backup, backs up my iMac G5's HD to my external HD I get " incremental backups " which are probably all the files that I added after my first initial full backup. I restored my full back up to my powerbook which was alright but for some reason I can't restore the " incremental backups " ???

    Hi Aaron
Check the Backup Folder. There are plenty of discussions there:

The only other advice I can give is, "Don't use Backup". It has never been a good application. There is no need to use sub-standard software on your Mac. Try SuperDuper! instead:

  • My backup won't restore for me without a password I don't know after updating to IOS 5.1.  Help!

Ugh!  I wanted to download Keynote and it required that I upgrade to IOS 5.1.  I finally realized that it wasn't going to let me upgrade without going through my computer, which happens to be a PC.  I spent hours yesterday making sure that I had everything backed up, and all of the apps copied over into itunes.  It took 2 hours for itunes to download the software to upgrade to 5.1.  After all of that, it upgraded the IOS and then when I went to restore my iPad backup, it asked for a password.  I tried my itunes password to no avail.  Then, every other password that I could think of to no avail.  I called support and they told me that somehow I must have checked the box for it to be incripted, but I never entered a password. Any suggestions???

Thank you.  They recommended that I go ahead and install as though it was a brand new iPad, which I did, and then try and restore the backup from there by guessing what the password might be.  Now, I can't locate the backup at all.  It is showing a new back up from this morning which is a back up of the "brand new" iPad with nothing in it yet.
Do you know where I can look to get to that encrypted back up again so that I can try and guess what the password might be?
Thank you again for your time and help.  I really appreciate it.

  • HT4623 After updating to IOS 6, my iPhone won't restore from back up.

I updated my iPhone 3GS to the new IOS 6 and i backed it up before i done anything. and it starts to restore from back up but it gets 3/4 way done and the green bar stops moving and the time remaining goes up instead of down. what do i do to restore from my back up?

I Just found it on the apple site, it arrived on a cd a few days later and worked just fine again.
i would recommend backing everything up just in case. Better safe than sorry, trust me. I've lost so much when i didnt back up once when re-installing the system.
IT shoulldnt erase everything, bt it might, so back up just in case
should you loose everything, then i have some tips on moving stuff fromyour iphone/ipod to the computer

  • IPhone 3gs restores to iOS 4.0 but won't restore to iOS 5 'Unknown Error 1'

I have an iPhone 3gs 32gb that accidentally went through the washing machine a couple of years ago. It was dead and rested peacefully in its box under the bed until a few months ago when I found it and thought - let's try turning it on. Low and behold the little begger worked. It was pretty beat up, so I ordered a new rear case for it and a few fiddly screws later it looked as good as new. It was making and recieving calls ok and recieving email fine - I thought great, I'll plug it into iTunes (10.6.3 on my Windows Vista laptop) and update it. This is when the problems started.
As soon as it tried to install iOS5 it got to the point where it says 'restoring iPhone firmware' and then boom, I get the error message 'Cannot be restored unknown error 1'. I tried installing in DFU mode... same thing happens. So I brought it to work and managed to install iOS4.0 via my work iMac PPC G5 running iTunes 9.2.1 - again, everything worked fine. Calls in and out, internet (both 3g and WiFi) gps, etc., all worked like a dream. So I moved to another iMac that was running the latest iTunes and all the latest updates for Mac OSX. Tried to install iOS5... same issue. 'Cannot be restored unknown error 1'. Arrggghhh!
There doesn't seem to be any hardware issues because the phone works great on iOS4, I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong when I try to update it. I've also tried downloading the IPSW file and doing CTRL/Option restore and pointing to the file, still with no joy.
Can anyone shed any light on the situation?

Are you sure your replacement is an iPhone 3GS and not a 3?  The iPhone 3 can't be updated beyone iOS 4.2.1.  If your 3GS was using a newer iOS you won't be able to restore from the backup (the 3GS could be updated to the newes iOS, 5.1).  You can check your model number (on the back of the phone) against this list to tell: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3939.

  • IPhone restore from backup won't restore text messages?

Hey everybody! So, I went to the Apple store today with a broken power button. Luckily, I was still under warranty so they took my phone and gave me a new (or refurbished) one. I backed up my phone right before I went to the store. The guy at Genius assured me that all of my data would be restored to my phone as soon as I connected my new phone and clicked "restore from backup" on iTunes.
After I did this, everything was back - my apps, photos, reminders, notes, everything - except for my messages. My messages are completely blank. I tried restoring it twice - both times, everything was fine except for my messages. My old phone was iOS 5.1.1 and the one they gave me was automatically iOS 6. Could this be the problem? If not, what's wrong? How can I fix this and return my messages to my phone?
    Thanks!

Does the recipient have an iPhone?   I assume yes - you won't see a Delivered status on a text message.
If yes, does your outgoing message show as Blue or Green?
If no, did he once have an iPhone and switch to another device?

  • After iOS 8 update it won't let me send regular sms's

WWhenever I. Try send texts to people with iPhones it will say 'cannot send message: iMessage needs to be enabled to send this message'
i have turned iMessage off and would like to keep it that way

Turns out that when my iPod Touch was restored, the restrictions had been turned ON for Facebook and several other apps. This is what was preventing the Facebook app from accessing my Camera Roll for picture downloads. This is odd since all of my iPod backups would not have had those settings turned on. This is also the first time this has occurred given the few times I've had to restore my iPod Touch.
Anyway if you experience the same behavior from your iPod or iPhone with iOS 8.0.2, just go to the General settings and review your settings under Restrictions. Once you set them to allow for changes, you should be back in business.

  • Iphone 4 In Recovery Mode , Won't Update! Won't Restore! Still New!

    Hey All ,
I bought a new iPhone 4 , Put the micro sim , opened it , connected it to the itunes , charged it .. , enjoyed it for a minute , and did all what I had to do .
Now I had to Update to the iOS 4.2 (Windows 7) !! the last 10 seconds it gave me "Erorr(10)" , I looked it up and it said I had to download the latest version of Itunes .. so I did
Tried again , not working ! Again on another laptop twice (windows 7) , then again on a Pc ( Windows XP ) ,
Every time I connect to iTunes it says :
it has detected an iphone in recovery mode. what do i do?
Itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. you must restore this iphone before it can be used with itunes.
now It Just shows the a picture of the usb chord and an arrow pointing to itunes.
    Solutions ??

Does the iPhone show up in iTunes when you connect it to any of the many computer you have connected it to?
If it does you can then restore it. On the iPhone home screen in iTunes there is a restore button in the middle of the screen. You can see it in this picture:
_Above is an old picture of iTunes - but you can see the Restore button which will look exactly the same in version 10.1.2._
This will return the iPhone to factory settings and you can then go about adding content to it.
NB: I would suggest sticking with one computer.
    Good luck..
    Ricky

  • ICal Backup won't restore

I was having some issues with ICal updateing with my Iphone and Ipad.  I believe that I have fixed that problem, but in doing so, I had to delete my I Cal - after saving a backup.  I tried to restore the back-up via ICal - import-import file.  The ICal appears to be updated and then vanshes about 2 seconds later-
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks!
    Laurie

I found a solution to Addressbook in the addressbook forum:
    Credit "bneely"
If you added your Tiger data files to your AddressBook folder on Leopard, then you may need to do an additional step or two to reimport the Tiger data:
1 - Quit all applications except Finder
    2 - Open a Finder window and go to (home folder)/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
3 - Remove the Metadata folder
    4 - Remove the AddressBook-v22.abcddb file
This worked for me great. Still don't know how to work iCal though. have to keep waiting for someone to work it.

  • Mail 4.1 backup won't restore; restore grayed out

Hello. Trying to restore my sent mail from a specific IMAP account. I can see the backed-up email within time machine, can select that sent mail box, can even highlight all the messages to be restored, but the "restore" button remains grayed out.
I only want to restore that one mailbox of sent mail.

All I can tell you is, it works for me, on a still-current IMAP mailbox (my mac.com account). I don't have a non-Mobile Me IMAP account, so I don't know if it might work differently.
I do note there's often a problem if I select TM with a different selection in Mail; but if I start with the Sent mailbox (not the merged one, but the one from the specific mac.com account), then select TM, I can navigate and restore the whole mailbox or selected messages, just as you'd expect.
I can only surmise that it might be related to the account no longer being active.
    A possible workaround:
Open a Finder window set to +*<your home folder>/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/+*
Inside that folder should be a sub folder named something like +*Sent Messages (<account>).mbox+*
Inside it should be a folder named Messages containing the actual messages, named with numbers and the suffix .emlx
If you double-click on individual messages, you can see the contents.
Once you're sure you're in the right place, +Enter Time Machine+ and navigate to the backup in question. You can double-click the individual items there, to see them via Quick Look.
Then you should be able to restore either selected items, or the entire folder, but I'd suggest clicking the "gear" icon and selecting the +*Restore to ...+* option and putting them on, say, your desktop, rather than back into the original folder. Then you can move them where you want them via Mail.

  • I just got an iPhone 5, and my backup won't restore apps from my iPhone 4.  Why not?

I backed up my iPhone 4 immediately before initializing/installing my iPhone 5.  iPhone 5 went through all of the procedural rigmarole of a new set-up, and some things did transfer over (ie, settings, pics, txts, contacts, etc...).  However, NONE of my apps made it over.  Not a single one.  Why not?
EDIT 1: None of my music made it over, either.  We're talking 2,000+ songs.

Great question...that was one of my concerns.  I back up to two different computers.  One is a Mac, and long story short, I can't update via that comp because of outdated OS (needs new iTunes, which needs new OS, etc...).  So the music is on THAT computer, not the one from which the new phone was initialized.
This brings up a new question - I just ordered Snow Leopard, which I'll have by Thursday.  I'll install that onto my Mac, download updated iTunes, and then update my phone.  Will the music then transfer over?
