IOS 7 used up all my storage space

My 16 GB iPad had 5 GB of storage remaining and when I downloaded iOS 7 it used up all but 1.4 GB of my storage before I cut wifi connection.  What can I do to reverse this?  Have no pictures or videos on iPad-- but magazines, yahoo emails and numerous small apps under 75 mb to watch TV programs online.  Help.

Please read the following topic here at Apple discussions. Please read through the whole thing (even though it was begun last year with the release of iOS 6) so that you gain an understanding of what is happening. This topic contiunes through to the most recent iOS 7.

Text, the best way is to take screen shots, or if you can forward them to your email. Your notes are either saved by your email or with icoud. They can help you find out where they are saved at.
The resest is easy. I would say it best to also save your photos on your computer as well as a extra back up so you can also see them. Depending if you have Mac use Iphoto and import all photos, Windows use I am drawing a blank, but you can go to your start menue and then your phone will show up as a removable device and then left click and transfer photos and videos.
After that you will be set. But it will take a bit to get all of your text taken care of thought.
Also if you have non-programed email address like Roadrunner ect. You will need the incomming and out going server information SMTP ect.

  • IPhone 5s playing video from iCloud takes up all free storage space and phone to crash

    Hello All,
Traded in my 32GB iPhone 5 for a 16GB iPhone 5s today. Using the iPhone's built in "Video" app and streaming videos purchased in iTunes will sometimes cause the phone to freeze and fill of the phone's free space until the indicates free bytes in usage says 0. It seems like it is a software glitch as the phone works perfectly fine everyone else. I'm running iOS 7.0.3. I've also tried restoring the phone, which hasn't help.
Has anyone run into this before or have any suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Chris

I've encountered the same issue tonight. Decided to purchase a movie and NOT download it to the iPhone 5S, but instead play it from the Videos app...which supposedly streams it from iCloud.
Half way through the film, a message informs me that I have low storage space. I check storage - 0kb.
I throw away 1.2GB of old apps and various pics / vids in my camera roll, then finish the movie. Just after watching, another message pops up...that 1.2GB was consumed as I watched the rest of the film.
It's almost as if the film was downloaded to the phone...taking up space (what was the point of "streaming" it from iCloud if it was going to take up such a great amount of space on the phone?) But it wasn't in my videos app as downloaded. I was missing 3 - 3.5 GB of space. There was no way to clear the cache. I tried everything (and I used to work for Apple as a highly competent iOS technical support advisor, so I DO mean everything).
In the end I decided to stop fooling with it and just erase the contents of the phone and restore to a backup.
But this is a SERIOUS bug in this system. I know "streaming movies from icloud" was a new feature with iOS 7...I hope they resolve this. Until then, I'll download movies if I want to watch them.

  • My iphone 4s fills up all the storage space!!!

  • What's using up all my HD space? Ghosts?

My HD storage space seems to be all used up. Yet when I tally it up manually the numbers don't add up. It seems like there is a large amount of space being used up but it is not accounted for. I'm not talkin about a few MBs, but it seems to actually be about 4-5 missing GBs!
I should first mention that I use Azureus to download torrents of TV programs on a daily basis because I live in Japan and this is the only way I can watch all my favorite shows save for asking friends and family to tape everything and send it to me.
On average I d/l and watch about 1GB worth of video each day. After I watch something I then trash it. I've been doing this since the new year started and at that point I had about 8GB of free space to play with. Today, after deleting all files I've watched I seem to have only 2.5GBs left, eventhough I haven't d/led or installed anything else. So...what's taking up this space? Any ideas? Anyone experience something similar to this?
    Please help me.
    EDIT:
    My HD: 27.82 capacity
    Used on HD:
    Apps:910MB
    Library:1.62GB
    System:1.02GB
    Users:14.27GB
    Remaining:2.58GB
If you do the math I should have at least 10GB remaining, why is it only 2.58GB? Where are the other 7.42GBs at???

I rebooted and only got a few extra 100 MBs back. I did notice however that my ~User/Library/Logs/Crash Reporter folder is storing 1.07 GBs of crash Logs! Isn't that a little crazy? Is it OK to erase those Logs?
Anyways, I'm going to try out the programs recommended above. Thanks for the help and I'll post back with how things are going^^!
    EDIT: Ok I used WhatSize...
When I started it it gave me these numbers:
    Capacity: 27.8GB
    Used:25.2GB
    Available:2.55GB
Then it measured my HD and gave me this number:
18.2GB on HD....so apparently there are 7 phantom GBs on my HD that neither myself nor WhatSize can account for. That's a whole lotta space that'd be nice to have, lol.

  • Does iCloud drive use up hard drive storage space?

    HI,
I want to save hard drive space and use iCloud Drive to store my documents, pictures etc. I have the iCloud drive folder set up in my finder. I have been copying and pasting data in there, but it seems whenever I do; the hard drive storage space decreases.
I thought the entire point of iCloud was to use cloud storage and not offline storage; unless you download it from the cloud to your hard drive. Why am I losing hard drive space?
Any help you can offer or suggestions would be very much appreciated

    Hi FlyFalcon,
I am writing to say that I am having the problem you are worried about. I have a 121 GB MacBook with flash storage, and I am running out of room.
This is my work computer so I don't have any personal photos/music/movies stored on here. My iCloud drive has over 100 GB on it and it's driving this computer nuts! I am constantly getting the "your startup disk is full" message. As you can see from the screen shot below, it's saying I have 58.61 GB of photos on this computer, 25.84GB of movies etc...but all these files live on my personal MacBook at home.
I am paying for the $3.99 a month for 200 GB but I didn't get that iCloud would use up my HD space. So as a warning, 128 GB may not be enough for you.

  • How do I identify what is using up all my disc space?

    Hi,
I am about to run out of harddrive space, and am trying to identify where I am using up all my capacity.
Is there a good utility that I can use to identify candidate files to move over to an external harddrive? Or if not a utility, what do folks in the forum use to keep their 500G drive as clean as possible?
    Thanks,

Try OmniDiskSweeper, WhatSize, or Grand Perspective - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.

  • I have a half loaded app, i cant seem to delete it. it is using up all my data space. can anyone tell me how to delete it. thanx mick

hi. i have an app that is only half loaded and i cant delete it. it appears to be using all my data space trying to load up. can anyone help. thanx mick

If ur connected to WiFi or ur phone has connected to someones elses open WiFi Connection and u go into Settings, General than Network and turn off Cellular data than it wont use 2GB Data Plan from ur Provider. If u dont have WiFi than go to Settings and Usage and on that screen it will tell u if its using up ur data to load the App.

  • Time Machine used up all my 500gig space!

Only a few days ago I set up a brand new external HD to use just for TM. Now it is almost full!! What is going on here?

I have a .Mac iDisk and have it set to store & sync with a local copy on my iMac. My iDisk contains around 2GB of files, and this amount is therefore also used up on my iMac by the local copy which is stored as a disk image. With the current Apple servers / iDisk sync malfunctions going on my iMac has not been able to synchronise the local copy with the online version - but behind the scenes it has been doing something...
I noticed a recent Time Machine backup taking a lot longer than normal, and checked the TM System Prefs to see how much was being copied - over 200GB! Now TM has been running smoothly for several days, and I knew I hadn't generated anywhere near 200GB worth of changes since the previous hourly backup. A quick investigation revealed that the available space on my iMac HD had also reduced by ~200GB, and I tracked the problem down to the local iDisk disk image (located at ~/Library/FileSync/). Instead of ~2GB it was now 207GB..! And growing at a rate of 8MB every minute or so.
TM backs up the local iDisk disk image by default along with everything else - so it was of course now dutifully backing up a 200GB (and growing) file. As it's a disk image it presumably gets backed up in its entirety every time a change is made to anything within, thus my large LaCie drive allocated for backing up to was going to get very full, very quickly.
The point of all this is, of course, if you're using iDisk with iDisk sync on, just check that the same isn't happening to you right now and using up all that backup drive space...

  • Does iCloud Photo Sharing use my phone's storage space?

When I share a photo stream via iCloud Photo Sharing, does it take up storage space on my iPhone?

    Yes.

  • Iphoto is using up all my storage and increasing in size.

I uploaded about 8 Gb of photos to my macbook pro. Right after I started doing some work, came back and it now says that i have 18 Gb's of photos uploaded to my mac? Why do the photos keep increasing in size. iPhoto is using so much storage.

Where in iPhoto is this 18gb referred to?
What the iPhoto Window reports is the nominal size of the resulting folder if you exported everything from iPhoto at the "Current" setting.
The iPhoto Library in the Finder contains your original photos, thumbnails, previews, cache, database and metadata files. it is always larger than reported by the iPhoto Window.
If disk space is an issue then you can put the Library on an external disk:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    Regards
    TD
