IOS 7 - User Interface - A Colour Blind Disaster

Hello,
I have just updated my trusty iPad, which I use for just about everything to iOS 7. Unfortunaty I am colour blind and find the new user interface almost impossible to use. It is WAY too wite and I find it very difficuly to see light grey and thin blue icons on a glairing white screen. Arrrrr Why is everything so pastel coloured, there is just no contrast. Before with iOS 6 everything was crystal clear :-(
Is there any hope that iOS 7 will get an update making it possible to change the awful colour scheme? I know this may be a wonderful step forard for people with normal colour vision, but it has made my iPad next to useless. Am even thinking I should possibly move the Android, I have had an iPad since they first came out but iOS 7 has made a great device into a misery to use :-(
I have messed about with the brightness settings etc etc but just trying to use the device now frys my eyes after a few minutes. Does anyone have any suggestions other than moving to android?

I have normal vision and find the new colors also awful to use and to look at for a while.
Setting all to inverted colors might help you, I use it for longer conversations in Imessage,
but everything else looks awful then... I really hope, Apple give us some changable color
schemes.
As skydiver told me in my thread, this here will propably not be read by Apple.
So perhaps you send it directly to Apple Feedback, too?
I did and hope if many people complain, they do something soon.
Cheers, Monica
P.S. Sorry for my English :)

Okay, mine now works here is what I did.
plug in the iPhone, iPad etc
in iTunes select the phone or iPad
Under Summary uncheck "Sync with this....."
Under "Music" uncheck the "Sync Music"
Let it remove all the songs, dont worry it will come back no problems.
Once that is all done all the music on the phone or ipad should be gone.
Now check them both back on and everything should copy back onto it.
    Working now !!!!!

  • Developing a User Interface with ADF Faces - Tutorial - Questions

    Hello everybody,
I am a forms developer and I am totally new to ADF.
I started from the tutorials : Developing Business Services with ADF BC and Developing a User Interface with ADF Faces...
Everything was easy and very clear, as far as the material covered in the tutorial is concerened.
But when I tried to modify a little bit the application, to perform a different task... disaster!!! :-)
One of the "simple" things that I tried to do -for example- is :
In the login.jspx, where we have created an ADF Parameter form (that accepts as a parameter the customer ID) and
retrieves in the next page the Orders of the specific customer.... to Display a message, such as "+Customer Does Not Exist+"
if the user types in the parameter form an not existent customer ID...
I understand that I should use a validator.... But I cannot find the list validator (from query) in the bind variables not in the ADF Parameter Form Fields....
    Does anyone know?
    Regards,
    Maira Kotsovoulou

    Dear Grant,
CustomerID is in the UI Project, and appears as a part of an ADF Parameter Form... and I can not find key exists in the UI Validators....
CustomerID in the .entities is a bind variable in a query. select ... from customers where customer_id = :p_customer_id. Again KEYEXISTS validator is not available in the bind variables sections... Only in the attributes!!!
I understand that the "normal" behavior in a query with bind variables where there is no match is to display nothing as it does!!!
But I was just wondering, if I could even trap that before I display the empty form...? Or could I display a text in my ADF form, that says no rows... (as I can do in an ADF Table???)

  • How can I improve the response time of the user interface?

I'm after some tips on how to improve the response time to mouse clicks on a VI front panel.
I have  data acquistion application which used to run fine, but after spending a couple of weeks making a whole bunch of changes to it I find that the user interface has become a bit sluggish.
My main GUI VI has a while loop running 16 times a second, updating some waveform charts and polling about a dozen buttons on the front panel.
There is sometimes a delay (variable, but up to 2 seconds sometimes) from when I click on a button to when it becomes depressed. I have wired the iteration terminal of the while loop to an indicator on the front panel and can see that the while loop is ticking over during the delayed response to the mouse click, so I know that the problem is not that the whole program is running slow, just the response to mouse clicks.
Also, just for debugging purposes, I have indicators of the iterations of all the main while loops in my program on the front panel, so I can see that there are no loops running abnormally fast either.
One thing I've tried is to turn off multi-threading, and this does seem to work - the response to mouse clicks is much faster. However, it has the side effect of making the main GUI while loop run less evenly. I was trying to get a fairly smooth waveform scrolling across the screen, and when multi-threading is off it gets a bit jerky.
    Any other suggestion welcome..
    (I am using LabVIEW 7.1, Windows 2000).
    Regards,
    Mark.

    Hi Altenbach,
Thanks for your reply. In answer to your questions:
I am doing both DAQ board and serial data acquisition. I am using NIDAQ traditional for the DAQ board, and VISA for the serial. I have other similar versions of this program that do only DAQ board, or only serial, and these work fine. It was only when I combined them both into the same program that I ran into problems.
The multiple while loops are actually in separate VIs. I have one VI that acquires data from the DAQ card, another VI that acquires data from the serial port, another VI that processes the data and saves to file, and another VI, the GUI VI, that displays the data in graphs and charts.  The data is transferred betwen the VIs via LV2 globals.
The GUI VI is a bit more complicated than I first mentioned. It has tab control, with 4 waveform charts on one page, 4 waveform graphs on another page, and 3 waveform graphs on another page. The charts have a history length of 2560, and 16 data points are added 16 times a second. The wavefom graphs are only updated once per minute.
I don't use the value property at all, but I do use lots of property nodes for changing the properties of the graphs and charts e.g. changing plot colours, Y scale range etc. There is only one local variable (for the Tab control). All the graphs and charts have data wired directly to their terminals.
I haven't done any profiling yet.
I am building arrays in uninitialised shift registers, but this is all well under control. As the experiement goes on, more data is collected and stored, and so the memory usage does gradually increase, but only to the extent that I would expect.
The CPU usage is 100%, but I thought this was always the case when using NIDAQ  with DAQ cards. Or am I wrong about this? (As a side note, I am using NIDAQ traditional, but would NIDAQmx be better?)
Execution priority of the GUI vi (and all the other VIs for that matter) is set to normal.
The program is a bit large to post here, and I'm not sure if my company would be happy for me to publicise it anyway, so I suspect that this is turning into one of those questions that are going to be impossible to answer.
Just as a more general question, why would turning off multi-threading improve the user interface response?
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Slow User Interface Performance on a Mac Pro

I've recently purchased a late 2013 6-core Mac Pro with 16gb of memory and the 256gb SSD.  While the general performance of Final Cut Pro X is outstanding (applying filters, transitions, analyzing for dominant motion, optical flow retiming, rendering, etc.), the user interface seems to still start to slow down the further along I am in my project.  It is most noticeable when I click a clip in my timeline to modify a video property in the inspector, then hit play (spacebar) again to resume editing.  At the start of a project, I can fly through my clips and edit without any hesitation, but as I near the 90 second-ish mark (with an edit/clip every 5-10 seconds), the responsiveness of the user interface starts to waiver just like my previous early 2011 Macbook Pro (something I thought was related to the graphics and/or system performance of computers from that era).
I've tried creating proxy and optimized media projects and even edited my h.264 footage in native, compressed format - regardless of what I try, the performance of the user interface is nearly identical until I start to hit a few minutes with some colour corrections on 25% of the clips.  I've also experimented with the playback quality during editing (i.e., best performance vs. quality) which resulted in minimal performance improvements.
Clearly, this Mac Pro has been designed to tear through video footage and process mass amounts of data, but I wonder if there is something else looming in the code of Final Cut Pro X that, regardless of the computer in use, the user interface just gets sluggish at a certain point when a critical mass of edits/clips are in a project.
Any comments or feedback would be greatly welcomed, as I may decide to return this beast and settle on an iMac if this symptom exists regardless of what Mac I use.
    Sincerely,
    Ryan Smith

    1.  All of my media was located on the SSD installed inside the Mac Pro and is the startup disk of the computer
This will slow you down.  Get a secondary drive for the media and Libraries.
    2.  The SSD had between 50g and 150g (depending on the project) available
That drive is becoming too full, and slowing down.
    3.  The project consisted of a single event from one import, about 100 files totalling 40g
A good USB 3 or Thunderbolt external RAID will fly through that without issue.  The system drive will get bogged down.
    4.  I haven't paid close enough attention to Activity Monitor; I will start doing that, but FCPX is the only application I ever have open when editing and consumes about 12gb - 16gb.
16GB RAM should be plenty for FCPX.  I've never seen it eat up that much RAM, even on very large projects.  But more RAM won't hurt if the system is using that much RAM.  How are you getting those RAM usage numbers?
The issue seems to be your drive.  First, don't use the system drive, that will bog things down, no matter what type of drive it is.  Second, get your media and Libraries on a fast secondary (external) drive.
Finally, are you running with the dual D500 or D700 GPUs?  There is a significant performance difference between the two in FCPX and Motion 5.  But I highly doubt that's your issue.  I think you simply are eating up too much of your drive, and running off the system drive, both are huge no-no's.

Sometimes when I switch to a CS4 application using 'cmd Tab' the User Interface, Menu bar, tool palettes etc are a dark gray colour - grayed out and inactive. If I click on them they return to their usual appearance but its really annoying - is this a known issue? is there a fix?

Are you sure you want the Windows forum? 'CMD' is a Mac key.

  • Suggestion: User Interface(UI)

    Hello Everybody!
Not long ago I found a chap online who has done incredible work by reinventing the current iOS user interface making it way more easier to use.
Ha made a short but very well-presenting video for his project. It's wonderful.
I fell in love with this concept and I would like to suggest Apple to use ideas from this conception because

  • Modern User Interface with PB12.5/PB12.6 Classic

    Hello all,
we want to modernize  the user interface to our PB applications, so that it will become state of the art. We are using PB12.5/12.6 Classic with PFC.
    - What possibilities do we have to do that?
    - I have found the "PB Ultimate Suite": does somebody have experience with that product?
    - could somebody post screenshots of modern PB user interface, respectively user interfaces created with "PB Ultimate Suite"?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Best regards
    Heiko

    Hi Heiko;
FWIW: I like to build my own controls using either Custom User Objects and/or DataWindows. This gives you exact control over the design of menus, tool bars, controls, etc for any application. It also makes them 100% upward compatible to newer PB and MS-Windows versions.
For example, I have a UO that emulates Tab Pages and was initially written back in the PB 4.0 days. It still works perfectly in PB 12.6. I can also use this control in Appeon Web 2015 and it renders perfectly in either the Safari, IE, FireFox, or Opera web browsers. The control also works perfectly with Appeon Mobile and renders perfectly on either the iOS or Android devices. All I have done recently is given the UO a sharper Tab Page look & feel like you see in Ultimate Suite.
Of course, this assumes that you have some time to code and test your own suite of UO/DWO's that give you the look & feel your application is looking for. If you don't have the time or the need for various environmental support other than native MS-Windows - then the PB Ultimate Suite is a great investment!
Here is a real web application that I just put into production last December. It uses UO's and DWO's exclusively to give the application a CLF web standard look & feel (FYI: Common Look and Feel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ).
PS: The UO's also work great with Webform, Winform and PB.Net (WPF) based applications as well. So I think that speaks highly that your initial investment can move you into the future no matter where PB goes!

  • Time Machine user interface broken after PowerMac G5 replacement

My PowerMac G5 tower recently experienced a disaster. I was able to replace the unit with a very similar unit, and moved in my hard drive. It's working great.
I've been using an external hard drive for Time Machine backups.
I decided after moving in to the "new" G5 to hook up my external drive and do another incremental backup.
I received the error messages that are associated with a different motherboard - the backups are associated with the old logic board's MAC address.
Apparently there is a relatively easy way to fix this with Snow Leopard and later - a terminal command called tmutil.
    Not so in Leopard.
I found the following thread at Mac OS X Hints, and spent quite some time reading it: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080128003716101
I felt somewhat intimidated by all the tinkering with extended attributes, and opted to use a link from the thread which lead me to a script that would automate the process.: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20081216145458979
I ran the script, it gave no error messages, and reported that the previous backups had been succesfully inherited to the new computer and Time Machine.
I can now run Time Machine, it does incremental backups, and if I boot the computer from my Leopard DVD, I can do a full restore to various points in time.
However, the Time Machine GUI application is "broken".  There is no past. The only time available is NOW, even though there have been 2 or 3 recent backups, and many before then.  There is no way to roll back in time, choose a file or folder and restore it.
Summary: Time Machine is creating backups, and the Leopard DVD  believes it could restore the whole hard drive with them. But the handy user interface is useless - for all users.
I am very close to doing a complete scorched earth reset and simply begin doing Time Machine all over again, just to get the user interface to work.
    Any suggestions?

    Gordon Henderson wrote:

Actually, not Snow Leopard.  It's on Lion and later.

Sounds like the hack is, well, like most, a faulty one.
It's barely possible it's somehow confused Time Machine into treating each backup as being on a separate drive, and only the most recent is connected.  You might be able to see the old ones via the procedure in #E3 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting, but that's not going to have the result you want.

    That's probably best.

  • Is my 3GS graphical user interface the same as iPhone 4?

I have a 3GS iPhone and am using Version 4.0.2 (8A400) of the operating system.
Is the graphical user interface (GUI) on my phone the same GUI that you see on iPhone 4? Thanks.

Does anyone know whether apple is developing a new UI for any iphone firmware updates? I
Apple hasn't announced plans for a "new UI" and no one here knows anything beyond what Apple officially announces. Any Apple employes who participate here are bound by nondisclosure agreements. Also, posting rumors or speculation about Apple policies and plans is prohibited by the forum Terms of Use.
That said, I can't think of any reason why Apple would want to develop an entire new UI for the iOS. It's safe to say it's been a resounding success as it is.

  • Extension user interface design

    Hi all,
I'm looking into how Adobe can help developers make their extensions look better integrated with the Creative Suite.
Probably the most common request we've heard in the past is for an improved Creative Suite Flex theme SWC.
Do you have any further thoughts/feature requests in this area?
I would be particularly interested to know whether you use CSXSLibrary to get the host application's skin information. If you do, does the API provide sufficient information to customise your extension's appearance effectively? If not, is there anything you'd like to see changed in the API for it to be useful to you? Here are the classes currently available:
    AppSkinInfo - accessible through CSXSInterface.getHostEnvironment()
AppReskinEvent - dispatched when a CS app changes its appearance.
    All feedback much appreciated.
    Thanks
    David.

The intention is to make the preloader (that's the generic loading bar that displays for a few seconds when the panel first opens) for your extension to be completely invisible.
That will make it take the colour of the content behind it, which is the default panel colour for the application. You could also change the colour of the preloader, to match the eventual one of the panel, or you could create your own preloader SWF.
You can find more information on preloaders for Flex 3 at http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=app_container_4.html and a tutorial on creating your own at http://www.leebrimelow.com/?p=916

  • How can I display step info in User Interface with Tracing Disabled?

I'm trying to modify the CVI Operator Interface application to update the execute panel with some step information during the execution of the program. i.e. I want to display the measurement, high & low limits during the run WHEN TRACING IS DISABLED. (Doing this, when tracing is enabled is easy, all you do is access the step record that's been constructed (I can cope with that!))
I've successfully implemented a User defined execution event to signal the User Interface application when the current step is a result (using TS_UIMsg_UserMessageBase etc. I'm posting a UI Message in the Process Model under the ProcessModelPostStep so that I will only display if its a result step.) I've added a user defined
entry in the execute.c module execution event switch statement which will call a function in the exedisp.c module to update the display. However, I don't have a context to the step that I can use. (I can't use e.g. the exeRec record since this is only completed with the context if tracing is enabled.) I've got a handle to the correct panel to write the information to, but how do I get the context to the current step when tracing is disabled?
    Regards,
    Brian

    Hi,
no problem - btw, if you wanted to acheive this in TS 1.x, you could always write to a local variable with the ActiveX reference for the step concerned, and then use the msg reference that you have in the OI within the UI Message handler, to dig through to the Execution ->Sequence File->Sequence->Locals, or Execution->Thread->SequenceContext (and you can get almost anywhere from that).
    Hope that helps
