IOS 8.0.2 on iPhone 4S crashes WiFi network

Question:
Has anyone seen problems with their WiFi network associated with iOS 8.0.2?
Background:
I installed 8.0.2 on my iPhone4S and it appears to crash my entire home WiFi.  I have 4 iOS devices in the house: iPhone 5, IPad, Apple TV and iPhone 4S.  Only the 4S has IOS8.0.2.  Since I installed it this morning my WiFi has been continuously crashing, making it impossible for the 4 Windows laptops in our house to stay connected.  I left the house for 2 hours and things went back to normal.  When I returned, the network immediately crashed again.  I turned off WiFi on the 4S and power-cycled the router.  The network came back up.  When I restarted WiFi on the 4S, it crashed.  Turned off the 4s's WiFi again and reset the router.  Everything has been fine now for 30 minutes.  I have Frontier Communications FIOS with a MI424WR-GEN3I router.  Throughout all of the outages, the wired/Ethernet functionality of the router has worked fine and I have been able to access the Internet via Ethernet.

Sorry, but that's just a ridiculous thing to say. The fact that an issue is intermittent or dependent on other variables does not mean its not an issue.  You have provided an opinion with no data and no help.  If you can't contribute to a solution, please abstain from this thread.
If a device on a network can crash a router/WAP, the issue is with that router/WAP is there is no "crash the network" command within the Wi-Fi protocol.
That's why there are networking standards; if properly adhered to they dictate what will occur when commands are received and commensurately, the only things that will happen.
Feel free to fill out the form and peruse the actual specifications of the protocol yourself if you so choose; there's no "crash network" option.

Whether the router is Apple's or another vendor's, it needs to be able to deal with whatever traffic/commands are sent to it.

  • My iPhone 3G iOS 3.1.3 can't find any wifi network.

I have nothing changed. neither the iPhone nor the Network. no Update anywhere.
There are several wifi hot spots around my home, but my iPhone doesn't show any wifi.
I have wifi with my iMac, iPod and all other devices.
I can't connect to any specific wifi network.
Shut down and start up doesn't help.
    Resetting all connections doesn't help.
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections doesn't help.
Maybe it is a hardware problem, but I hope there will be a software solution to solve this problem!

I Just purchased an original iPhone and "couldn't search for wifi" kept popping up. I have the airport time capsule 2013. Tried firmware restore and everything else I could glean from the internet. Wouldn't even find any of the neighbors? Decided it was broken. Middle of night I thought?? WPA2?? First thing this morning fired up my Cisco Valet Plus router, changed the security to WEP and voila, it works like a charm. I don't think I'm going yo change my settings on the Airport Extreme, since the phone is only nostalgic. This could easily be the problem on any iPhone running 3.1.3..

  • IOS devices can't connect automatically to known wifi network anymore (only manually)

    Hi there.
Just changed my old wifi router belkin 54g with a new sitecom 300n X2 (with 802.11n); after the change all my iOS devices (iphone4, ipod touch and ipad2) are not able anymore to automatically connect to my wifi network.
The network is recognized and after inserting the password the devices connect perfectly to the network, but if I switch off the wifi interface and then i switch it on again the devices don't connect to the known network automatically, I have to tap on my network in the list to join it, even if password is not requested anymore (just once, when connecting for the first time). My Macbook and other Android devices are automatically connecting fine.
I tried to forget the network and reconnect to it, I did a reset of the network stack under Settings->General->Reset, I did a device reset but nothing worked.
I even tried to limit channel bandwidth of the router to 20 Mhz (suggestion found in a forum) but no success, and I also changed the wifi channel to avoid interference, but again no success.
Any help will be really appreciated.
    Thanks a lot and regards.

  • Trouble connecting iPhones to home wifi network

Hi, I posted this over in the Airport discussions a few days ago and have them stumped so they recommended I bring it over here.
I'm having all sorts of trouble trying to get my iPhone and iPad to connect to my new Airport Express. I know the network I set up is working because my iMac and Appletv work fine with it, so the trouble is finding out why the others won't connect. When I select my wifi network on the phone the circle starts spinning around while it tries to connect, but it just keeps going and going and never really connects.
I have tried resetting everything, renewing leases, forgetting networks and rejoining them, changed network name and password, all with no avail.
I used to have the old AE that plugged straight into the outlet (hardly ever had problems with it either until it broke, and all devices worked fine with it) and I just bought the latest AE with the cord and dual ports. It is currently running the latest 7.6.4 but I can only downgrade to 7.6.3 which it came with.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

And after updating your firmware did you restart your router, computer, and iPhone and try again?

  • Any way to use the iPhone on a WiFi network that requires me to..

    1. Enter both username and password
    2. Download a specific digital certificate before connecting
Can the iPhone do this? All the WiFi networks on colleges and universities here in Norway use the same login and password with a specific digital certificate.

OK, so your old iTunes library was on your PC and now the library is on your Mac?  Do I have that right?  Your iPhone and iPad were auto syncing to the PC and now you connect them to your Mac and it wants to clear out the media?
This is important, do you have in your iTunes library on your new Mac, the media you want now?  Or are you trying to move your media by copying what is on the iPhone/iPad to your iTunes?

  • IOS 5.1 Email not updating on certain WiFi networks

All of a sudden, all my iOS devices have stopped updating email on my school's wifi network. All other internet connections are fine (can get on safari, youtube, etc), but Mail does not update. I tried changing the port, but it just kept Verifying and wouldn't change. Unsure if there is something with iOS 5.1 (only started affecting me yesterday. I have tried rebooting my iPad, as well as re-adding the network, but nothing worked. Email still works fine on all other networks I use. Any suggestions?

It could be the network, but what surprises me is that nothing else is being blocked at all. And I can't seem to change the port that Mail is on. I tried a port scan, and it came up that that port is blocked (993), but it also came up that every other port I tried was also blocked. I used a Mac to do a Port Scan for my iPad's IP, but it wasn't detecting any open ports. So I don't know if it is an issue with the network, or perhaps with my iOS devices. The network has 802.1X security I believe (I need a username and password to login), so unsure if this would affect it at all?

  • IPhone Recognises All Wifi Networks Bar my Home Network

I have recently purchased a 32GB iPhone 4 (not 4S), and I have encountered the following problem: It will recognise most wifi networks promptly and without issue, but it does not recognise the one I use at home. Obviously this is a quite serious issue, as it is here that I will do most of my web browsing on my phone, and a stable wifi is needed to download apps. So without this I really have no recourse.
    The problem in more detail:
I have been doing some research and, although some people have similar issues, my problem is unique. First, my phone does not even list the network in the wifi tab under 'choose a network'; second, I cannot add it by inputting the information for the network manually (it says 'Could not find the network 'X'); and third, it is not the case that this is a 'new' problem. I got the phone three days ago and it has never been able to recognise my home network. Apple and my service provider give me no help as it connects to all other networks I have encountered thus far.
All of these points lead me to believe that it is a problem particularly with my Network. However, it is not a hardware issue. In my household I have two desktop iMacs (both new) connected to this network, my three year old laptop, and two iPads (one first and one second generation). I have never had a problem with recognising the network or connecting to it on any of these devices; only the iPhone.
    Additional information:
-This problem occured both under the operating system my phone came with (4. something) as well as the latest upgrade (5.0.1)
-The phone does have a 'Wi-Fi Address in system preferences
-The phone is indeed brand new
-The router I am using is a Cisco DPQ3925
-The channel width I am using is 20MHz
-I have my 'standard channel' set to 'Auto' (changing this makes me lose the network on all devices)
-The network is set to WPA2 Personal (not WEP, which seems to be causing some people problems)
-The SSID is indeed being broadcast
-This problem occurs regardless of how far I stand from the router
    Attempted Solutions
-I have done a full restore to no avail
-I have restarted network settings on my iphone many times
-I have tried resetting the router with no luck
-I have tried turning on/off cellular data several times
-I have tried turning on/off location services several times
As mentioned, I assume the problem has something to do with the iPhone recognising the network settings. Some have suggested interference with other devices. I unfortunately have little experience fiddling with router settings, so I'll need to be walked through if this is the issue.
I eagerly await any possible solutions you would offer, and I am quite grateful in advance. I must say that this problem is very vexing. I have had my previous Nokia 3210 for over 10 years, and was quite resistant to upgrading. I am a Mac fanatic, and always want the newest models of PCs, but I have long resisted updating my phone for fear of problems just like this one. Please prove my phone troglodytism wrong!

I have an iPhone 4 and I do not have trouble with my wi-fi. I thought I would take the time to look at my router settings and see if there is something that I could find that differs. I use a Linksys WRT160N router, so that is one difference to start with, but that shouldn't be that big of a deal. I am using WPA2 Personal for security with a channel width of 20 MHz. Is there a possibility that you have MAC filtering on that would be preventing your device from connecting? Have you checked the Cisco website to ensure you have the most current software for the router? Which network mode are you using, B, G, N, Mixed? Are you able to connect to any other wi-fi network anywhere, a public one like McDonald's, Starbucks, your work? This would explain whether the wi-fi is good or there is a hardware problem with the iPhone.

  • After update iOS 6 to 7 my iPhone keep crashing

I have updated firmware from 6.1.3 to 7.0.2. My iPhone is unusable now. After system boots I can only enter my pin and then I only see apple logo, springboard for a few seconds and apple logo again in loop. Crash reporter folder is full of com.apple.datamigrator_xxxxx_xxxxx.crash files. I know, I can restore phone in factory settings, but I don't want to lose all application data.
    Any ideas what to do?
    Thanks
    Jiri

  • IPhone 4S IOS 6.1.3 does not join my wifi network at home

My iPads and Windows 7 systems do connect to our network. It does nothing when you choose the network under Settings->WiFi or I get the "Failed to join XXXX" message. . I'm using a ZTE ZXV100 modem/router with its latest firmware. I have reboot everything and reset network settings, too. Security is WPA2/TKPI.

Sorry indeed I was not very clear.
    My problem was :
Had "unable to join network" for both iphone 4 & iPhone 3GS since their 1st upgrade to ios6
My router is indeed an Apple Time Capsule so what I did in detail was :
In Airport Utility go to the Wireless tab.
Change the radio mode to 802.11a/n-802.11b/g.
Change the radio Channel Selection to "manual".
Set the 5GHz to automatic and the 2.4GHz to 11.
I do not know precisely how you can reproduce that on your ZTE router but for me the trick was ON MY ROUTER CONIFG to force the 2.4Ghz channel to a "manual" fixed value instead of having Channel selection set to "automatic" .
All the other reset on the phone &/or the router in whatever order, all the restore & all iOS upgrades since iOS 6 had FAILED but THIS, worked in a snap for both phones after monthes of false hopes & struggle !!....
Can only hope you'll be as lucky with that than I was myself today.

  • IOS 5.1 update on iPhone 4 and wifi issues?

Basicly i updated my iPhone 4 to the latest software (iOS 5.1) and every since then i have nothing but trouble previous networks i was able to connect with are either not showing up or only showing up when im within 2 feet of the router. I have tryed resetting and restarting the router and my iPhone but to no avail and i have also reset the network settings.
Is anyone else having this problem? or is it just me?
    Anything you suggest trying?
To say the least i am NOT impressed with the iPhone at this moment in time
    Thank you

I'm sure you've already tried, but start by turning Wi-Fi off then back on.  Here's a longer list of troubleshooting steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398.  Maybe you'll find a solution there.

  • Iphone 5 finds wifi network but cant connect after putting in password

hi, i have tried all day to get my iphone to connect to my wifi by resetting network settings, entering wifi password again and turning off router etc. after typing in password the wifi tab in settings says that i am connected to this wifi but in the tab at the top of my phone where it says your network/service carrier and battery percentage, the 3 bars that tell how strong my connection is does not appear at all

    Hello tomof1998
There are a few things to try for troubleshooting your issue and they are detailed in the article below.

  • Time machine crashes Wifi network

I have a new time machine which constantly crashes my wireless network.
I have tried to contact apple express lane support but the email they have sent me gives a phone number which is unrecognisable from my phone (I think it's a US not a UK number)

  • Torch 9800 crashes Wifi networks

I've had a Torch for about 2 years now and I've always had this issue but I fiugre I'd finally look into it. This is the 2nd Torch I've had (first one the screen was defective after a couple months) and both have had the exact same issue.
When I use my phone on Wifi, it works fine for about 10-15 minsutes and then crashes the router that it connects to making the internet on the whole network go down. this happens at home, at other peoples homes, at work or even in public wifi areas like hotels or retail stores (yes I've tried it a few different places)
I've tried calling my phone provider a long time ago and they were stumped at this issue but since the wifi technically works the stores refused to do anything on a warranty basis while it was still active. It's not like wifi is a must for me, the internet speed on the torch is still quite slow and I have tons of data on my plan that I don't use but I wouldn't mind getting it fixed so that I can actually turn on my wifi antenna without worrying about crashing everyone's networks.
    Thanks!
    Chris

I also have the same problem, it crashes networks and routers etc I think it maybe some of the apps that cause it ones that also use the GPS to find your locations etc

  • Iphone with home wifi network connection

says unable to join network when I try to manually join wifi at home

I have the same problem and called Apple. The first perrson I spoke to said he hadn't heard about this BUT he put me on to a senior tech who said Apple definitely knows about this problem and he asked me all kinds of questions about my home system. He said that mine was the first case he'd encountered where the iPhone 5 wouldn't connect to a Time Capsul but I don't believe that for a second. So if you, too, have this problem, please post what kind of router you are using. I'm sure Apple is monitoring this issue, or at least I hope they are. I am so angry at myself for buying this phone. Apple should be ashamed of themselves for selling it when it is not ready for the marketplace. This problem deserves to be reported by the press.
