IOS 8.1.1 devices "pending" after enrollment in Profile Manager

Setup:
OS X Yosemite with server 4.0
After installing the trust certificate and enrolling an iOS 8.1.1 client, I can see the specific device in Profile Manager. However the status of the device stays "Pending". It seems that the enrollment proces can't proceed.
When I enroll a device with iOS 7.1.1 there are no issues. Everything works fine!
Any suggestions?
Thx

The devices had been running ios 8.1 for a number of days.
We've had two more do this since my last post.  In each occasion, the devices are running iOS 8.1, have been turned off and turned back on again to boot to the Apple logo and remain there indefinitely.
Hard resets don't solve the issue, the only remedy is a full restore via iTunes resulting in complete data loss.
Surely others are seeing this issue if we've had 6-7 devices in the past few days?
iOS 8.1 + reboot = brick?

  • Device will not join in Profile Manager

Forgive me, as I could be being very silly. But really would appreciate some help here.
I am attempting after installing Mavericks Server to join a device (iMac intel, running OSX Mavericks) via profile manager.
Everytime I go to myserver/mydevices on the iMac I install the trust profile and then I click the blue Enroll button. However, this is where the issue arises. The device will only appear in Profile Manager as a Placeholder - it will pick up the name of the iMac and it's serial number, but it will only be a placeholder not a fully managed device (I do not get the options in myserver/mydevices to wipe or lock etc. and the device will not appear in there). I am logging into the local admin account of the iMac - and have also tried it as a network account. STILL don't work.
Could anyone shed some light on what the issue could be here?
The host machine will join fine (I did this as a test).
Thanks in anticipation! This is a niggly issue which is driving me MAD!

    Hello,
I know how it feels, this piece of crap was driving me MAD too.
I had the same problem then you, the only way I found is to reinstall a clean copy of Mavericks with server.app and restart the whole thing.  For an unknown reason, i can now enroll my devices and manage them.
Good luck and have a nice day, and dont get crazy with this ****, it isnt worth it.

  • Should the server itself be enrolled in profile manager?

should the server itself be enrolled in profile manager?

Never been 100% sure about this, but believe it suggests it is being seen as a second but identical device to the original set up. You might try removing all the Apple TV listings from your network router and any Apple TV configurations you have set up and then restarting everything including the router itself.

  • Can an IOS device be enrolled through profile manager when the server is set as .private?  If so what steps?

I have my server set as server.xxxxxx.private, and need to know if it is possible to enroll it using profile manager.  I assume this would have to be done when the IOS device is on the same network, and subsequently the DNS server would have to be added to the WiFi configuration.  When I do this it tells me that Safari can't open the page.  I manually installed the self signed certificate.

    Same issues here.
    Buggy as ****..
Also after some time, the Profile Manager PAne doesn't even fill in Server.app.....stays at Loading...
Nevertheless, the service itself works with the bug you outlined, plus enroll is impossible for me (check my post here: Can't enroll devices with Profile Manager - invalid key  )
I hope all these get fixed in 10.7.1   !!!

  • Do I need internet access on my iOS devices to enroll with Profile Manager?

Hi, I'm trying to configure Profile Manager on a closed network. The Mac Server does have Internet access, but the network for the iOS devices can only have communication with the server, but not to the internet because of company policies. Is there a way around to make it work or do I need internet access on the iOS devices as well?
I've made the enrollment process in another network with internet access for every device and everything works well, but on the other network(no internet for iOS devices)  everything seems ok (from conection to the server, profile certifiacation and stuf) but the devices can't send or receive anything else, like pushed configurations and device info. Ports and everything is ok, I even read that they need to be on an open network so I know it all comes down to having internet access, but just wanted to ask if there's another way around?? Suggestions?
    Thanks!

You can share internet connection with your XP-PC using a router(as I do with XP-old MAC's,connected via cable). You may look for more info at:

Did you ever use a MAC before? Have you got Airport at your PC?Which?
    Good luck

  • Is there a maximum number of devices to enroll in Profile Manager in OS X Server?

Just wondering if there's a limit to the number of devices that should be managed using profile manager.
I have the Mac Mini Server running the lastest version.

There's no real maximum although there are limits in which everything on your network would start to struggle in a major way. You could use Apple's support article regarding PM's Scalability as a rough guide?:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4780
I was recently involved in a real world deployment of approx 1600 iPads and 8 MacMini Servers (200 devices per server) each in their own subnet and using PM as the MDM. It works well but only after working very, very closely with the network designer prior to roll-out. If all you're ever going to have is 100-300 devices then one server should be enough? As ever YMMV.

  • Pending Pushed App in Profile Manager

    Hello,
I have been working in Profile Manager to push both ios and ox applications to mac laptops and to iPads. Right now, everything is pushing beautifully to the iPads, however under Active Tasks the applications just get stuck pending to the mac computers.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks!

So, this issue has been sovled. When installing OSX Server 10.9 the device manger database was replaced with a database named.
    devicemgr_v2m0
I am not sure if this is the same name for all upgrades/new installs or diffrent based on the upgrade path.

  • How to write .CSV file to import device placeholder into Lion Server Profile Manager?

I'm now using Mac Mini with Lion Server (10.7.4). I've already setup a server with Profile Manager to manage some iOS devices.
Now I need to add many devices into Profile Manager. From some articles, (for example http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/-/9780132778879/chapter-4dot-managing-accou nts/ch04lev1sec3), I found that I can use .CSV file to import many device placeholders at a time. So I create a .CSV file "devices.csv" with the content as the following:
    iPhone001,12345ABCD12,,,
Then I import this file to "Devices" in Profile Manager, but in vain. It says that the placeholder is invalid.
If there's any one could provide some exemples? Thanks a lot.

    Hi Nien-Yi Ho,
A little late, but perhaps someone else can benefit ...
The way I did this, is:
    - create an empty Excel spreadsheet
    - add 5 headers in the first row: DeviceName, SerialNumber, IMEI, MEID, UDID
    - in the next rows add your devices and specs (for the iPhones and iPads I only added DeviceName, SerialNumber and IMEI specs)
    - IMPORTANT: save the file as a Windows CSV file.
If you import the CSV file now, all should go well.

In particular... here... If you have never synced your device with iTunes

  • HT1212 how do you get the photos off your phone when it is recovery mode? My daughter has put a passcode on the 4s iphone and cant remember. After multiple attempts and then resorting to this support forum "iOS: Forgotten passcode or device disabled after

If that phone has been synced in iTunes, you can restore from the backup after having restored the phone.
There is also a little mac app that can read the iPhone backups that are in iTunes, called ibackupviewer.
Then when there is no backup of the iPhone: read the following aricle:

  • OS X Server 3 - Profile manager - I can't enroll any iOS devices

    OS X Server 3 - Profile manager - I can't enroll any iOS devices
I have OS X Server setup on a Mac Mini and an Airport Extreme.
Airport is 10.0.1.1 and server is 10.0.1.3.
Server is setup to use DNS itself by server.mydomain.com
Airport is setup to use the server as DNS and the server then routes DNS queries onward to the internet.
Essentially anyone on my internal network thinks server.mydomain.com is the server itself. This is what I want.
From the outside, anyone searching for server.mydomain.com get's some page on a free hosting site with "Server is not accessible from the internet"
I also use a self-signed certificate to secure communications. It's valid.
Now this configuration has worked for the past two years. Out of curiosity in Server 3.1.1 I decided to give Profile manager a shot. Set it up, no worries.
Installed the Trust Profile first and then the Enroll profile. Done.
I can enroll and wipe, lock any mac in my firm remotely. Everything works, except iOS devices.
Any iOS device I try it fails at "Installing profile", I tried friend's phones, my own iPad... every iPad in my firm. It fails consistently at the same step, with no error code what so ever.
Is there  a checklist I need to go through? Do I need some kind of weird certificate setup?
PS. Is it a problem if my devices are enrolled as development devices, thei UUID is in Apple's device list for beta software and iOS development?

The Problem is your DNS is being pushed locally to the iOS Device from your Airport Extreme and the DNS on your Airport extreme is undoubtedly a public form of DNS that does not recognize your private server's ip address or HQDN, in Airport Utility point the DNS at your server and let your Server provide the public DNS mapping and allow your Router to provide your Server's DNS.  This should resolve your issue and allow you to enroll your iOS Devices by logging into the Profile Manager Web Portal from the iOS Device.

  • Tasks to iOS devices stuck sending in Profile Manager

I am managing about 30 iPads and 10 iPhones through Profile Manager.
I installed iOS 7 on a freshly wiped iPad and enrolled it with the server and everything works as expected (including locking, updating info, pushing settings, etc)
I then updated an already enrolled iPad from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7. Everything appears to still be intact (all settings, apps, profiles, etc) but it will not longer accept commands (lock, clear passcode, push settings, etc) from the Profile Manager. When I try to send a task it just shows sending and never fails or completes. The iPad has internet access (it is on the same wifi network as the above mentioned iPad that is working fine)
Other already enrolled devices that have not yet updated to iOS 7 seem to complete tasks (Update info) just fine.
I was running 10.8.4 with OS X Server 2.2.1 when this began, and have since updated to 10.8.5 and Server 2.2.2 with no change in behavior.
How can I troubleshoot why this iPad is not completing commands. I'm worried that as my users update to iOS 7 other iPads will not recieve commands and I will need to have them re-enroll with the server in order to manage them. (Which I would like to avoid if possible)

I've already asked people to hold off on updating, but without any way to prevent them from updating, I just have to hope...
I installed the iPCU and have looked at the console but I'm not seeing anything relevant. It's like the the command isn't being recieved by the iPad at all (even though Profile Manager shows it as sending, the iPad has internet access, and another iPad on the same network has no problem recieving commands)
Looking at the logs on an iPad that is receiving commands (the iPad with a fresh iOS 7 install, enrolled with Profile Manager after iOS 7 was installed)  I see entries related to MDM:
    Sep 19 07:18:05 iPad-iOS7 mdmd[99] <Notice>: (Note ) MDM: mdmd starting...
Sep 19 07:18:06 iPad-iOS7 mdmd[99] <Notice>: (Note ) MDM: Looking for managed app states to clean up

  • Enrolled devices don't show up in profile manager

    Hi,
I am trying to setup profile manager up so I can manage 100+ iPads. Have never touched a mac server before this
I have successfully got it running with a self signed cert, I can open https://servername/mydevices on the iPads. Install the trust cert then enrol the device.
The iPad successfully installs the remote management profile.
After this no devices show up in the profile manager or on the mydevices site.
To be able to view the mydevices page I had to set up a VPN connection on the mac server and connect to the VPN on the iPads, although I am not sure why as the mac server is on the same network as the iPads.
This is being used in a school and we can't change the router settings or make the mac server have a public address. Is this a problem?
Hopefully I have simply missed a step in the process.
    Any ideas?

This is what the system log reports after I try enrol an iPad. Replaced the actual ip address with INTERNALIP

  • Profile Manager IPhone 4S - "new device"

    Dear all,
after I bought my new IPhone 4S, I tried to enroll the device via "https://server.xxxxx.xx/mydevices". The certificates installed successfully, but the device is shown in the profile manager as "new device". My profile manager is working as I don't have any issues with my other devices (Ipad / Macbook).
Did somebody else encountered this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Marc

If your devices have SIM cards fitted that's probibly what's causing your problem
For some reason apple grabs the SIM card info and ties it to the device
Removing the device doesn't seem to remove the SIM card info
Hence the "new device" and being unable to push settings to the newly enrolled
device with the old SIM card fitted
The SIM card info has to be removed from the MDM DB manually
I'm not sure if the latest osx server updates fix this behavior
See this post on how to remove the SIM card details

  • IOS devices will not enroll

Hi I having a server OS  X10.9.2 on a Mac Mini. I have enroll my MacBook Pro no problem. First i install Trust Profile, and then I enroll. Everything worked.
When I tried to do the same with my iPhone and iPad everything was OK but still it asked to Enroll this iPad.
In the profile manager the only thing that was mention was New Device and in Active Tasks the new device was pending.
    I don't now what's the problem is? What's wrong?

Same thing happened to me. Tried on several devices, but doesn't seem to ever move out of Active Tasks, and the device always only shows as 'New Device' in Profile Manager. Anyone else have this problem or know of where to look?
Removing the profiles from the iPad does remove the tasks from the Pending state, so the device seems to be communicated with the server accordingly. Also running 10.9.2 with latest 3.1.1 Server.
