IOS 8.1 Update has "BRICKED" my iPad 4 128Gb

I am exceedingly angry about everything to do with iOS 8.x.  The 8.0 update mad everything intolerably slowm update 8.02 resulted in repeatable and constant crashing of Safari, mail, messaging, and other apps.
This morning I decided to try the Update to iOS 8.1 only because life has been extremely miserable after iOWS 8 came out.  Twice, the iOS 8.1 update stated that it COULD NOT BE COMPLETED based on an error which it did not disclose.  I then reduced the number of apps and deleted documents to reduce what was stored in memory.  The iOS 8.1 update still failed.
I then decided top do a hard reboot (Power Button and Home button hold)  ever since that, my iPad has been locked with the Apple Logo stuck on the screen.  It appears to be trying to reboot but is not.  It stays on for 20 - 30 min, the screen blacks out, the iPad shuts down, and then tries to reboot again.  It has been doing this now for over six hours.  It does not respond to any power button or home button pressing at all nor is it shutting down.
I am really angry that Apple botched iOS 8 up and has done a miserable update to a perfectly running iOS 7.x system.  I am also angry that everything at this point seems to be lost document and photo wise since the last backup a couple of weeks ago.
Has anyone else had this experience with the iPad 4 128 GB machine?
Has anyone been able to get it to finally reboot?
I'd appreciate any help.

Recent iOS update has made my iPad 2 unusable. The screen locks up. It's very laggy and web pages do not load correctly.  Is there a fix for this or are they even working on a fix.

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • Why won't my iOS 7.03 update load on my iPad?

Why won't my iOS 7.03 update load on my iPad? It has said 1 minute remaining for 4-5 days. It may have not had enough room at first, but I deleted a bunch of apps so that now I have 7 GBs free.

If you can, try loading the iOS update using iTunes on your computer.
See "Update your device using iTunes" toward the bottom here:

  • HT5624 I was prompted to update to ios7 so I did as usual. But this update has made my ipad a piece of junk. I am unable to access Siri, I can't read the faint print particularly those tiny letters on the top row which show the visited websites, etc.

I updated to iOS 7  last might after being prompted by Apple. This caused me to lose many useful features of my iPad2. First I find that Siri has disappeared. When I contacted Apple support, the guy who took my serial # and model # verified things on his end and said emphatically that I should have Siri, but could't help me find it. Another rep simply disconnected me after seeing that she was unable to help me with the problems. After wasting hours with these people and waiting several minutes for their promised supervisor to come online, I was again disconnected by them. My second major problem I wanted solved was the hard to read fine and faint print. I don't have good eyes and with iOS 7 on my iPad2 I am now unable to read the top row which has the list of websites in avery faint and fine print. I could read everything on my iPad until yesterday evening when I made the mistake of updating to iOS7. Till yesterday evening I loved my iPad but after that update to iOS 7 last night it is a piece of junk for me. Hope there is help somewhere out there to restore  Siri and other useful features of iOS 6 or get iOS6 back on my ipad So I can use it again. The chat with apple support has not helped at all as they themselves did not know that Problems like the ones I mentioned to them even existed with this iOS 7. I want my iOS 6 back!!!! CAN ANY ONE HELP !!!!! Also how can I reach anyone in Apple who is knowledgable and also has some authority to do something about it.

Outside of the contact number for that you've already used I don't know another way of direct contact. Here are some things that they may or may not of had you try that might help you. If you will go to the settings app and pick general on the right-hand side you will see accessibility. Within that you can adjust a text size make the text bowl you can also increase the contrast. You can also adjust the brightness and control panel.
As for Siri again in the settings app under general you should see Siri on the right-hand side with the switch to turn it on. If that is turned on and you're still having issues
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • IOS 4.2 update an hour later iPad unrsponsive with black screen

    Hi,
I updated today my iPad to iOS 4.2.1, everything worked fine for about an hour, then suddenly the iPad got a black screen and is completely unresponsive.
It had more than 75% power when I did the update so can't imagine it's without power. I have tried to reboot it plugged in for recharging but no respinse.
My iMac does not detect the device.
    Has anyone experienced something similar?
Any ideas on how to progress or should I just give up and turn it in for service?
    Thanks for any help.

Same thing happened to me just a few minutes ago. Hold the power button on the top and the home button at the same time until the Apple appears on your screen. It will prob force you to do a restore...but at least it's not dead! Itunes will restore everything that was there from the last time you plugged in. Hope this works for you. I'm headed to the Apple store tomorrow to have it checked out just in case. Will post if I find out anything else.

  • Latest Lion Update has bricked my ATV2?

Have just updated my IMac EFI Update 1.8.  It seems to have bricked my connection to my ATV 2.  This has been the only change to my settings since I last used my ATV.  My ATV tells me to check that iTunes is open, that I have allowed home sharing and that both the ATV and iTunes are running on the same wifi network...
Well yes...  Checked this and re-set both iTunes and the ATV I do not know how many times.  Am now seeing if the ATV is heavy enough to be a paper weight.  All this talk about a high definition Apple TV comming to market suddenly looks ridiculous if our friends at Apple can't get this one right...
    Any advice greatfully received.

you can restore an appletv2 by connecting it using usb to the computer

  • IOS 7.0.3 has crippled my iPad's wifi

Ever since upgrading to 7.0.3, my 3rd gen iPad's wifi, which worked flawlessly before, has now been totally crippled.  Everytime I pick up the deivce, it is not connected to the WiFi and I have to go into settings to re-connect.  This is in my own home, with my own WiFi that the iPad knows about very well.  EVERY time I turn it on, I have to re-connect to my WiFi, and that is not an exageration.
In addition, half the time when I reconnect, the Internet doesn't work and I have to turn off WiFi and turn it back on again to get it working.
My iPhone 5 and my Macbook Pro have no problems with the WiFi.  My iPad USED to work fine before the update to 7.0.3.  My WiFi is an Apple Airport.

    Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings will be reset.

  • 2.0.1 Update has bricked my iPhone 3G!

Got the update popup - downloaded - during the preparation or install phase it errored out - I am now stuck with an iPhone that iTunes does not see. The iPhone screen shows a picture of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to an iTunes icon. I'm assuming that this means I'm supposed to connect it to iTunes. It would be nice if I could.
So now what? I only use this phone with one PC, my MacBook. There are no other backups other than on my MacBook, which won't recognize the phone. I guess I should make an appointment at a Genius bar....

    no parallels or vmware
    yes, quit and reopened itunes
no, have not tried new user account
however - I did reboot my MacBook - this did the trick as now iTunes recognizes that an attached iPhone is in 'recovery mode' and prompted me to restore it first. Restoration is underway. Wish me luck.

  • Automatic update has bricked my printer

A recent automatic software update introduced me to the dangers of this process, which I have now turned off.
The latest series of updates pushed by Apple included an update to the drivers for my Epson printer.
This update seems to have contained a firmware alteration which makes it impossible to use non-approved ink cartridges in my printer.
(To verify this I've erased and reinstalled drivers, gone back to backup drivers, reset the printer system, etc... No effect. Ink Cartridges not made by Epson are not recognized)
I'm not a frequent user of ink, and I switched to generic cartridges because they didn't dry up -- unlike the Epson ones which always need to be replaced after 3 or 4 months whether I've used them or not.
If you've got any suggestion for what can be done to revive my printer and allow me to use it as I see fit I will be very happy.
Until then, I know which company I will never be doing business with again.

If Epson changed its firmware to prevent non-Epson print cartridges from being used, I don't blame you. Lexmark had been forcing the use of its own overpriced ink cartridges for years, and have since exited the inkjet printer business. Epson may deserve the same fate.
Peruse Epson's support site for an earlier firmware version. It may or may not be possible to downgrade.

  • I know Apple has pulled the iOS 8.01 update but how can I clear the update icon that is on my settings icon?

How do I clear the update icon that is appearing on my settings icon now that the iOS 8.01 update has been pulled?

You're saying you don't back up your phone regularly? You should ALWAYS back up before updating your phone. That said, try resetting first: hold down the home button and the power button for at least 10-20 seconds until you see the Apple. Hopefully you can then try to perform the update again. Start doing backups if your data is important to you.

  • Have recently upgraded to iPhone 6 with iOS 8. Microsoft exchange works on iPad but not iPhone. Details incorrect password but pw fine. any thoughts. Think is active sync issue

i prefer the ME interface to gmail and want to use push

Annoying glitches since IOS 8 + the update have rendered my iPad Air nearly unusable.....way too frustrating & annoying with many glitches plus some functions just go way too slow or even worse - don't kick in at all.....necessitating a reboot.....(especially with sending emails.....need to power down / power up to get emails to be sent way too often)......stopped by the apple store the other day.....they did their "thing" ( a reset + whatever)......told me I was now good to go & all problems should have been solved / fixed......was in a rush, so didn't really test the fix until later in the day.....same problems remained....no fix whatsoever.....
some videos in various "formats" won't play now......keyboard disappears while doing almost every "google" search.....the list of glitches goes on & on.....apple & I part ways now unless this is resolved soon.....will stop by the store one more time over the weekend & give them 1 more chance....& will "test" it in the store this time before believing whatever they say & leaving......also, never happened before - an incoming facetime call was never received the other day......my friend sent a screenshot of her history of calls to show that she tried when I said that I had not missed any calls......

Hi, Just sent my iphone 5 back to apple after poor battery life since did ios 6.1 update, has anybody else had this problem?
Also Apple say they are sending me a replacement unit, is this new or refurb?

  • Cannot download apps to iPad since iOS 5.1 update.  Get error message "An unexpected error has occurred"

cannot download apps to iPad since iOS 5.1 update.  Get error message "An unexpected error has occurred"

    Hi mike,
Seems like a frustrating problem! Try restarting your device, and trying again. If that doesn't work, in settings, under store, tap your apple id at the bottom of the page, and then sign out. Sign back in again, and try again.
Also, check you have enough remaining space on your iPad for the app you want to download, you can do this in settings, then general, then usage.
I also reccomend buying the app in iTunes on your computer, and then syncing it to your device.
Let me know how you get on, and I'll get back to you with further help if needed,
    Nathan
