Ios 8.2 gmail IMAP password not correct

I Updated to 8.2 yesterday on both my iPad and iPhone. This morning both devices report my app specific passwords are incorrect. I cannot retrieve or send mail from only my gmail accounts in the mail app. I downloaded the gmail app and i can send and recoeve from there. I have already reset both devices, deleted gmail and readded the account in settings, unlocked my captcha, and turned off IMAP and turned it back on in my main gmail settings. I have also generated new app specific passwords to try. Am I missing anything to try or change?
Thanks,
Brian

Update 8.2 has broken our Google Apps mail integration for my company. We are getting password incorrect errors on multiple accounts. Deleting the account, restarting and readding does nothing. Even removing 2 step verification does not fix the issue. Just wanted to give a heads up.

  • IPhone and iPad iOS 5.1: Gmail IMAP attachments not downloading

I'm having an issue with Gmail (IMAP) not downloading attachments from myself! (I use Gmail to archive documents, etc). Same issue on my iPhone 4 and iPad 3, both iOS 5.1, using the default mail app with default "Gmail" account (IMAP) set up.
They *were* both working fine, then I erased both devices for a clean install. Set up the email accounts again, now none of my own attachments download on either device.
When I say not downloading, I see the attachment download box (dashed box with download arrow inside), and on pressing it, the attachment downloads (0 to XX kb), but then the download box just flashes back to showing the file size, and the attachments do not show. I keep pressing the download box but it flashes and nothing happens. Same with .jpg .png .doc .xls .pdf, etc.
    BEFORE THE FORMAT:
All attachments downloaded correctly (as far as I can remember) before I had erased both devices.
    NOW:
Attachments sent *from* me ([email protected]), via Gmail website, to me or anyone else, BEFORE formatting my iPad 3 and iPhone 4, do NOT download. However, if I then forward the email, including attachments, the attachments appear in the outgoing message preview! (so they're not corrupt)
Attachments sent *from* me ([email protected]), via Gmail website, to me or anyone else, AFTER formatting my iPad 3 and iPhone 4, DO download and correctly appear in the email.
Attachments sent *from* me ([email protected]), via iPhone/iPad, to me or anyone else, any time BEFORE or AFTER formatting my iPad 3 and iPhone 4, appear correctly.
Attachments sent from anyone else, *to* me ([email protected]), always appear correctly.
On a friend's iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1), adding my gmail account using the default "Gmail" setting (IMAP) works fine - all attachments download and show!
On a friend's iPhone 4 (iOS 5.1), adding my gmail account using the default "Gmail" setting (IMAP) replicates my problem - all attachments from me (sent before the format) do not download. (So it's not specific to my own devices!)
Gmail Exchange server (m.google.com) works fine: all attachements download and show correctly. Also no problem using Thunderbird IMAP or the Gmail web interface.
So it looks like it might be a problem with iOS 5.1, however it all seemed to be working fine before I did the erase/format... and new emails sent from me always appear correctly... actually that might explain why it was working before (as I was always downloading new emails, and not looking at archives).
So the only other thing that might have changed is some IMAP server setting? Could the headers or mail flags have changed somehow for older emails??
    Any thoughts? :-/

I reproduced this problem over the weekend, on friends' iPhones (all running iOS 5.1). Opening their Gmail sent folder and trying to view an attachment sent from a while back (basically one that hasn't already been cached by the Mail app) failed to display. Exactly the same problem - download arrow flashes and attachement won't show / can't be opened.
I'm in the UK, but not sure if that affects anything.
Thinking this might be a bug in the Mail app in iOS 5.1, as earlier versions work fine.

Am trying to subscribe to Hulu Plus But keeping asking your email  or password not correct !!! So What is the reason and both is correct :(

You have to configure Gmail to allow access to less secure apps. Thunderbird uses the IMAP-protocol, but Google thinks it isn't safe enough.
Go to your browser and login to Gmail. Now click on your profile picture and click Account. Go to the Security tab and click on Settings for Access for less secure apps under Account Permissions. Enable it and Thunderbird should have access to your email...
BTW This is totally safe. There's no need to scratch behind your ear about changing this setting

Sending email since updating.  I get password not correct.  Won't send unless I go to outbox and send again.  HELP!

    Hey Horse farm,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues sending mail on your iPad. The following resource may provide a solution, specifically deleting and re-adding the account:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Mail
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3899
Try these basic troubleshooting steps first
    1. Tap Safari and attempt to load a webpage (try any webpage). If you can load a webpage, then your device has Internet access. If you are unable to load a webpage, follow these troubleshooting steps.
              - Try to use an alternate Internet connection if available:
                        1. Try a different Wi-Fi connection
                        2. If your iOS device has an active cellular data plan, tap Settings > Wi-Fiand turn off Wi-Fi.
                        3. If the affected email account is provided by your Internet provider, see if your issue is resolved while connected to your home Wi-Fi network.*
    2. Log in to your email provider's website to ensure that the account is active and the password is correct.
    3. Restart your iOS device.
    4. Delete the affected email account from your device.
              - Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
              - Choose the affected email account, then tap Delete Account.
              - Add your account again.
    * If you are only able to use your email account while connected to your home network, this may be a limitation put in place by your email service provider. For further support, please contact your email service provider directly.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IPhone/iTouch "password not correct" on home WiFi

This problem reads like many others threads but I haven't really seen an answer - Do Apple Employees Administrate these forums??
I have an iTouch and an iPhone 3Gs both now on os4 but this prob has happened through last 3 firmware versions.
They both connect to the home WiFi, but wont remain connected and will ask for the WiFi Password followed by a Password Not Correct message. You can continue to input the password and occasionally it is accepted or you can power cycle the router but both are temp fixes as the Apple's will drop back off again (sometimes minutes later or hours later). I have exhausted my efforts with the router (firmware upgrades and every combination of security setting) Other devices (laptop, wii etc)don't have any WiFi issues. In saying that, the iPhone stays connected to the work WiFi no problems.
I have tried WEP and WPA security. I've enabled MAC Address filtering which didn't help but after reading one of the threads I have disabled WiFi security and have MAC Address filtering enabled and it seems to be holding up (only attempted a couple of hours ago.) Is this a secure workaround or does someone know what I need to do? I'd prefer not to use this method as it's handy to let visiting friends/family use my WiFi.
The router is a Linksys WRT54GP2 and the signal level is high throughout the house and always seen by the Apple's
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
The iPad purchase is next if I can get an answer (a mate has brought his around and had the same problem) - so come on Apple employees, put your heads together!

Yeah you aren't the only one. I have the same router, and my iPod, dads iPhone, and 2 other apple macbooks always had troubles with the router. A temp fix would be restarting the router, but keyword here is temp.
Unfortuantely we cant use custom linux firmware as per http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database
    My router firmware version is
    Firmware Version: 1.30.05
I recall I upgraded from version 1.00 ages back but that did nothing.
Anyway I shall try google around for more solutions, I'll get back to you if there is a fix.

  • Apple ID username, password not correct for imessenger ios 6

i just upgraded to ios 6 on my iphone 4 and imessenger is fine to send and receive but when i go to settings and try to register it with my apple ID i get an error that the username and password are not correct, although i am usung the apple ID fine in app store for example. anyone knows what this is?
also, i was wondering, while setting up my iphone after the upgrade to ios 6, in one of teh steps when i started using the phone, it asked for teh apple ID password to do soemthing related to icloud, imessenger and facetime. it also gave the option on the phone screen to "skip this step" which i did, i skiped the stem and thought if i wanted to i can go back and do it manually from the settings any time. i think it was something related to downloading new features for the icloud. i messenger and facetime.
could this have been the case? but i mean if i had the option to "skip the step" it means that it is not something drastic and can always be done manually later.
    anyone has feedback?

Hi again, well I can't answer that question, because  my computer IS asking for my apple ID and password to install Rosetta Stone. I would have appreciated you taking the time to help me, if you had had any advice for me. Since I posted this, I have found the answer so I don't need your time anymore, however. I eventually went to my settings and SET a password, which solved the problem. I recently reset my computer and all my records had been wiped- I was unaware that my computer settings had deleted my old password which had been saved on it- not realizing that its data would be seperate from the other numerous places I have used it the past week since I got it back. An answer that would seem like a no-brainer, but since it hadn't needed to be done until then for any other previous installs since the reset, it appeared last on my to-do list.

  • Mail.app 10.6.4 constantly polling Gmail (IMAP) but not fetching new mail

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.4, Mail.app has been having a problem with Gmail (IMAP).
When I launch Mail.app it connects to Gmail without any problem and fetches any new mail. The next time it checks for mail on Gmail, the animated activity symbol appears next to my Gmail inbox and then stays there spinning constantly. Any new mail is not retrieved, and it will continue like this until I quit and restart Mail.app, in which case the cycle repeats - first fetch is ok, subsequently can't fetch mail.
Have experienced this on both my Macs. Have tried disabling/re-enabling accounts, deleting & recreating, resetting passwords, but all to no avail. One glimmer of hope is that Gmail (IMAP) seems to work fine on my iPhone and iPad, so the problem seems to be in the version of Mail.app in Snow Leopard 10.6.4?

oddly i fixed by deleting the account and creating it again.

  • Password not correct

I am trying to set up a Jabber account. I know for a fact that the username and password are correct, but it keeps saying that they are not. I've changed the username, deleted the iChat plists, and deleted the keychains for the account. Is there a way I can fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi,
iChat allows you to choose to add one of five types of Names.
    iChat > Preferences > Accounts > + Button
A slide out/pop up screen appears.
In the middle of this is a Drop down to choose between the three AIM Valid options of AIM, @Mac.com and MobileMe above the line and Jabber of GoogleTalk below the line.
    Did you choose Jabber ?
Do you have a another Jabber Client (App) that can login into a Jabber server and does the name work there ?
If So when it has been added to iChat and you go to the Server Settings does it list the Jabber Server you are using as the Server ?
If it lists Auto Discovery for port and Server try it with that off and then try port 5223 with SSL Enabled and 5222 with SSL Off.
If you are using a Google ID from GoogleMail (@Gmail.com or @googlemail.com) you should add it as a GoogleTalk ID in iChat otherwise it will mistakenly pull the gmail.com (or googlemail.com) through as the server.
Other Google IDs that you can get without liking to their Mail Service have Gmail.com as the server but login on port 443.
If you are having issues and think a .plist needs deleting only delete the com.apple.Jabber.plist one
You can use this Users tip to Check the Passwords
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607493
You will have to use another app to log the Screen Name in to check it as most Jabber Servers to not have Web Page Registration/Login options.
It is late where I am and I may not reply for several hours.

  • Gmail IMAP does not sync

I've had my IMAP gmail account set up in mail.app for a few months. At first, it worked perfectly -- the two would sync up relatively quickly, both in terms of labeling/deleting email, and noting whether they were read or unread. About a week ago, mail.app started synching right after I would open it -- and then it would eventually label/delete email correctly, but would not change an unread message to read if I left it in my gmail inbox. Now, it isn't even labeling/deleting email -- it won't do anything except right after it is first opened. Manually telling it to synchronize has no effect -- the little clock icon in the account list doesn't even appear. I'm wondering if this has something to do with the 10.5.6 update -- after which, I did run the stand alone Mail update, hoping it would resolve this behavior (even though I wasn't having stability problems) -- but it didn't. Any ideas?

Remember, *Gmail is still beta*. That's not an accidental labeling oversight by Google. My sense is that Google is still struggling with reconciling IMAP, which is folder-based, with Gmail's new approach of using tags instead of folders.
I think if you use Gmail via IMAP, you're going to be having sync issues in one way or another. The unanswered question is whether or not the Gmail team has painted themselves into a corner by choosing to reinvent the wheel (tags instead of folders to organize email). Gmail may never make it out of beta, if these problems keep surfacing.
I think the best solution (which I'm having a hard time accepting myself), is to switch to Thunderbird, since the open-source community seems to implement fixes faster than the closed-source community. Thus, as the Gmail team deploys new code, the Mozilla team will tweak T-bird to cope with the change, and probably do it faster than Apple.
Other thoughts? I accept my amazing talent at being completely wrong...

  • Problems with gmail imap and not seeing new messages in inbox

I have done countless searches and have not been able to find anything that works. I am gathering that mail on the iPhone 4 and the ipad is not illy compatible. Here is what I am having trouble with:
I recently switched my gmail from pop to imap. The reason behind this is that I could not have mail running on my MacBook and still see my messages on my iPhone 4 or ipad at the same time. What would happen is that any new messages would download onto my MacBook and I could not see them in mail in the inbox on my iPhone and ipad. So, I switched to imap so that I could leave mail running on all my devices and be able to see the same messages no matter what I was viewing them with. Here is the next problem. Now for some reason, only some messages go to the inbox, all of the rest go to the"all mail" folder. Is there a way to fix this so that I can view all of my messages in the "all inboxes" in mail?
Maybe I am misunderstanding how this is supposed to work but any help is appreciated. I have checked the filter settings in gmail (which I had none) and the labels and still nothing works. I have also verified from the gmail help my mail and gmail settings.
Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks for the help!

    No ideas?

  • Username or password not correct

I am trying to update apps on my iTouch but it will not accept my password which I know is correct.  My password is 12 digit, but when I see it on the id information on my iTouch it only has 7 or 8 dots, not 12.  Reset the password on my Apple ID and everything works except the iTouch.  Any ideas

Same thing happened to me. My son's iPod touch suddenly started indicating that my "username or PW had changed" or was "incorrect" so I paid Apple $30 to find out that all that was required was updating the software by plugging his iPod into my computer and syncing with iTunes. My problem was then solved. FYI this latest version of iPod software wouldn't let me download or install until I temporarily disabled my firewall and antivirus program. Good luck!

try changing your port setting to 995 (under outgoing mail>advanced settings).  That worked for me (for my comcast mail account, anyway)

  • IPhone/iTouch "password not correct" messages using WRT54GP2 Router

    Hi,
My iPhone & iTouch keep dropping off the wireless network and when you select the network from the list of available networks, the Apple's will ask for the password even though they have been set to automatically connect.  They then tell you that the password is incorrect.  My work Laptop works fine (both home computers are patched directly into the Router).  I have upgraded the firmware to 1.30.06 and have enabled MAC Filtering and added their MAC Addresses to the allowed list..
My settings are WPA Pre-Shared Key (Though I have tried WEP), Mixed Wireless Network mode and SSID Broadcast is enabled.  I have tried adjusting the Wireless channel up & down the Frequency band too with no joy.
This problem occurs frequently and the only short term fix I have found is to power cycle the router and they will connect but  will then drop off the network within 5 minutes to 3 hours.  Please help - my mobile bill is through the roof as a result!

Thanks for the advise.  I have reset the router for 30 seconds as part of the firmware upgrade but I have then restored my settings via a backup and as a result may have re inported the problem so I have done a reset again and reinstalled settings from scratch leaving everything possible in a default state but the problem was evident immediately.  Thanks for the advise though!
The MAC Filtering set to enabled with no other wireless security has been working beautifully though which suggests to me it is a security protocol compatability issue - but as mentioned I have tried both WEP and WPA Pre shared key.
I'm seriously considering sticking to the MAC Address solution, not ideal but beggars cant be choosers .  Is this secure enough - I'm guessing it's probably the most secure configuration, just not very flexible.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • C5 Gmail imap settings not working

i have created gmail mail box in my C5 and  tried every possible settings but it indicates no messages always. cant able to retreive email. please suggest some solution
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi!
Wondering if your mailbox isue is resolved.
Ideally if you change the enironment like Internet settings by swapping sim, or deleting the internet settings (when push to email was set up), well the connection between  existing push to email set up and server is lost.
    Solution
go to Settings -> Sett Wizard -> First define the internet settings by clicking on Operator
and then re set up your email in Email Set up.
    Hope it helps.
