IOS 8.3: Calls dropped instead of being paused...

Greetings.
I'm using an iPhone 4S, running iOS 8.3 and Skype 5.11. Before upgrading to iOS 8.3 this week, when an incoming regular call would come in while I was communicating via Skype, my Skype call would be paused automatically. Since upgrading, my Skype calls are now dropped entirely when I get an incoming phone call.
This is a problem as the person I'm on Skype with assumes the connection was dropped for technical reasons and will naturally try to call back (and fail, since I'm on a call). With the Skype calls being paused, at least the other party would see the conversation was paused and wait, while also making it easier for me to resume that conversation.
Are there steps I can take to fix this, or is it a bug/conflict with iOS 8.3 that needs to be resolved in an update?

Hi khafia,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPhone after a recent update. If you are having crashing or user interface issues across multiple apps after an iOS update, you may want to make sure you have a current backup of your data, then try the following troubleshooting steps (they are aimed at a specific startup issue, but may be applicable for other general iOS issues):
If your device turns on but gets stuck during start up
You might see the Apple logo or a red or blue screen for a long time during start up. Try these steps:
Connect your device to a computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, you can borrow one, or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
While your device is connected, force it to restart. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding until you see the Recovery mode screen.
When you get the option to restore or update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data.
iTunes will download the software for your device. If it takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit recovery mode and you'll need to repeat steps 2 and 3 again.
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch doesn't respond or doesn't turn on - Apple Support

  • App restarting instead of being paused

Hi All, I have two apps which I have to switch between. Say AppA and AppB both of which has a long startup sequence.
Since I upgraded to 4.0.1, I could start AppA, go through all the startup questions, press home, start AppB bring it to a place I like and switch between the two apps using quick double tap on the home button. Right around the time 4.0.2 came around, the feature for some reason changed back to prior iOS 4; i.e. once I switch to AppA or AppB, the app restarted from scratch.
So, I upgraded to 4.0.2 hoping that will fix the problem to no avail.
Can anyone help me out as to what might have changed that would cause the apps from not pausing (being on hold)?

    Here's what worked for me.
Goto: General > Passcode & Fingerprint > Fingerprints - Turn off 'Passcode Unlock'.
Now I get the option of downloading stuff from the appstore without having to key in the password.
    Hope this helps.

  • IOS 4.3 constantly dropping calls

I updated to iOS 4.3 about 2 hours ago. Before updating, I had maybe 1 call drop every few weeks. Since updating.. I'm checking my call log to be accurate.. What should have been one 24 minute call was broken up into 16 calls because it kept dropping. Then another for a total of 12 minutes during which there were 10 drops. I have nothing out of the ordinary to explain it other than the update.

I just started having problems with dropped calls today on my 3GS, even though i updated a few days after the update came out. I tried calling someone today and the call dropped 8 times. My signal was fine. The call time is only about 15 seconds before the call drops again. I tried calling them back and it dropped 3 more times. I called someone else to make sure it was my phone, and it dropped 3 more times with that person. I am extremely angry as my phone is now useless as a phone. If this is 4.3, they need to fix it now!

  • IOS 4.0.1 - call drops in 3G network, but not Edge network !?!

Upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.0.1 and have had dropped calls ever since. Never had dropped calls before. Messaging, emails and internet are fine, but all calls are dropped, even with 5 bars! The only constant is that I've been on the 3G network when the calls dropped, so I turned it off and have been on the Edge network for a few days without issue!
I have hard-reset my phone at least a dozen times and even restored my phone. I do not have bells & whistles installed.
Is this a traffic issue on the 3G network? I live in Hawaii, where there aren't tall buildings to block my signal.
    ugh.

Since upgrading to iOS 4 it seems to me that the signal bars are reversed. In an area where I used to get maximum bars, I now only get 1 or 2. In an area where I never got reception at all (no signal zone) I am suddenly getting 5 bars, but guess what - I can't connect to anything, or send anything from there.
Either the latest upgrade has just sent the aerial dotty, or someone at Apple IT messed up when writing the signal strength algorithm.

  • Ios 5, iphone 4 and call dropped as text message comes in?

    Somewhat bizarre.
Upgraded to 5, iphone 4 (not 4s) and while I was on a call, a text message came in. As soon as the alert displayed the call dropped.
Wrote it off on the person I was speaking with and their service, but then an alert from FB came in and the same thing happened.
Is there a setting I need to change? Is this a bug?
Additionally, the only other issues I have had is when you delete a voicemail, it goes into the delete section but then takes about 5 seconds for the Delete All to come to life.
The other issue was with Airplay and when the phone auto-locked it would cut off the stream.
    Thanks as always all!

I have an iPhone 4 on ATT and every call has either dropped or had a few seconds of silence in it since upgrading to IOS5. Calls tend to drop when notifications come in as well. Lots of bars, too.

  • Calls dropping, service spotty, and now my phone says 1X

For the last few weeks, instead of saying 4G my phone has been saying 3G with maybe two bars if it's a good day.  Now, my phone says 1X and keeps dropping in the middle of calls.  I use my phone for work (I work remotely with people across the country) so I have to be able to have a reliable connection instead of being interrupted every few minutes with "you're getting garbled again".  Can someone tell me what's up?  This has only been an issue for the last few weeks, and my device and address have not changed in that time.  Thanks!

In Port Charlotte and having the same issue..over 4 hours now.. I came here hoping to get answers and hopefully chat with a rep but it won't let me.. T-Mobile looking awfully good at the moment.. same crappy service but at least they would only charge me $50 not $120.

  • Why can't I make any calls on facetime, the call drops after saying connecting.

Why can't I make any calls on facetime, the call drops after saying connecting for a few seconds. I'm using an iphone 5, 32 GB on IOS 6.0.1 over 3G network in Muscat, Oman. Just to be clear, I was able to make facetime call in Muscat about a week ago.

  • I had to change my sim card due to call drop outs and now i have lost important voice messages. How do i get the messages back?

Please help. I lost very important voicemail when i changed my sim card due to call drop out. How do i get my voicemail back??

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • Call drop while talking long distance and strange number in log

Talking to relative in NY, call dropped with no dial tone after that.  Unplugged all phones, checked the connection box.  Dial tone came back after about 15 minutes.  Checking the digital phone log revealed that {edited for privacy}was listed as being called 7 times during the time of no dial tone.  Looking at the log again showed that {edited for privacy} was called eight times yesterday.  About a call a minute to this number.  Have no idea what this number is.  It seems that everytime the calls are dropped, this is the number in the log.  What is happening?

The alarm system checks out OK, strange number was just the system making the regular 28 day call.  Calls are still dropping, mostly after talking for a long time.  Can call the number back immediately and get connected.  Dial tone is not missing for these latest incidents, althought it was missing once in the past.   Also have an answering machine that  clicks at random as if someone is picking up a phone.  Answering machine is set to 4 rings and digial voice answering is set to 6 rings.  The whole system worked fine when installed, now is a constant problem.  Going to start disconnecting things and probably run a wire from the box directly to one phone.  Is there a tracer that can be hooked up to monitor the line?

  • My iphone hangs any time.I see a call coming but i cannot attend. My call drops anytime and i cant even end the call. The settings page doesnt respond many times.I have given the phone to Apple care , they update the software and return it back to me

My iphone hangs any time.I see a call coming but i cannot attend. My call drops anytime and i cant even end the call. The settings page doesnt respond many times.I have given the phone to Apple care , they update the software and return it back to me.IT WORKS FINE FOR 3-4 DAYS AGAIN THE SAME. Its under warranty and i am disappointed with the Apple product and service

If you used your backup to restore the data after it got returned, set it up as new device and don't use the backup data afterwards. It seems that some data inside the backup are corrupt. Follow this article and set up the account info and other setting manually after that:

  • Call dropping problem with my iphone 4s

Recently from past two weeks I have a problem with my iphone 4S of calls dropping automatically.  I tried reseting all the settings etc but no improvements till date.  I am facing huge problems since my calls are all business calls & very important ones.

    Hi
    - you cannot restore it from iTunes? as from your explanation, it looks that its iOS problem. or
    - try to let the battery drain (< 5% or until it shuts down) and connect it to iTunes and try restoring. or
    - keep it plugged in the charger for 3,4,5 hrs and do hard reset again ( lock+home bottoms)

  • Constant Call Drop out

Since the 3.1 update calls continually drop out for no apparent reason. There is always a full 3G signal, the phone is stationary, and mmid conversation the the call drops out and "CALL FAILED" appears on the screen.

Same here-- recently my 3G reception has improved quite a bit. Reception used to be sort of dodgy in my area, in spite of being in the middle of a major metropolitan area, but now it's almost always full bars. However, it's rare that I get through a 10 minute conversation without at least one drop/failure. I'd disable 3g and rely on edge, but edge stopped getting any reception here-- also meaning visual voicemail is frequently unavailable. Blah. I think this is all ATT stupidity, not the software update- but I could be wrong!

  • SIP Calls Drop. Receive Bye From Cube 15min,30min, 45min

    Hello,
Running into an odd issue. I've seen several others having this problem with calls dropping after 15min duration. But this is a bit different. Sometimes long duration calls drop at 15min. Some at 30min, others at 45min. And sometimes not at all. Call flow is such.
    8831-sip--CUCM--sip--Cube--ITSP
I'm convinced this is likely a problem with the refresh timer. But I can't explain why it wouldn't just fail only at 15min. It's also interesting to note I've only seen this on the 8831. I tried getting the issue with debugs from the cube but of course it didn't happen once I turned on ccsip message.
From the callmanager traces I see the bye arrive from cube with Reason Q.850 cause=102.
The CUCM version is 9.1.2  and cube is 15.2(4)M1. I did see some odd defect in 15.1 related to this where the refresh on the cube would send out 3 invites to the ITSP on an update. I guess it would have only 33% chance of getting it right. Any help someone could provide I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks for the replies.
So was able to capture it while had debugs running. This time it disconnected after an hour. Same cause=102.
Now here is where it gets interesting in the debugs. I see an invite is sent 3 seconds from callmanager. I assume this is a refresher with the same call-id. Cube receives it and sends out to ITSP. With a new call-id. We then receive a bye from ITSP cause=86. Which then of course is sent to callmanager. Here are the relevent sections of debugs.

It was working perfectly up until the 5.0.1 update.  Now INBOUND calls drop as soon as I answer them, I barely have a chance to say 'Hello' and I get a beep and the call failed message on-screen.
After hours of restoring/resetting/swapping SIM's etc I have discovered that I can replicate this fault 100% of the time by having Wi-Fi and Cellular data active at the same time.  If I leave these both on I CANNOT receive incomming calls as they always fail.
If I turn off Wi-Fi I CAN receive calls.
If I turn off Cellular Data, again, I CAN receive calls.
Leave both on and Im stuffed.
Apple are sending out a box to return it to them so hopefully its just a duff handset and not something that is widespread like a bad chip or firmware as this is a major pain.

same problem , apple store gave me a new phone , set up everything , and didn't help , on both 5.0 and 5.0.1 softwares.. will go to see them tomorow again , expecting product for £500 work properly . 16gb 4s white.

I'm not familiar with 4.5.0.201.  Is that what's listed in Options >About on the 3rd line down?  The latest I was aware of was 4.5.0.187.  What carrier is branded on the device?
What happens when you try to start the camera?  do you get an error message of any k ind?
