If you mute the sound on your iPhone, you will not hear notification sounds. You will only hear clock alarms.

Set your device to silent
You'll still hear clock alarms through the built-in speaker when your device is set to silent. You can also use Do Not Disturb to silence calls, alerts, and notifications.

Toggle the Ring/Silent switch on the side of your iPhone. You'll still hear audio playback in your music, podcasts, videos, and games.

I think that the best thing to do since you have already done the correct steps to turn off the notification sound would be 3 things, restart the phone, or close all the apps on the phone, or remove and re install the Facebook app, possibly restore the iPad but I dont think it will come to that.
From our iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/application/#section_3, I recommend starting at section 3 and working your way down from there. Here is section 3 to get you started:
Close App
If only a single app has stopped responding or closes on launch, try the following:
Return to the Home screen, and then click the Home button twice.
Tap and hold on the app.
When it starts to jiggle, tap the - to close it.
Double-click the Home button and try opening the app again.
Note: I recommend closing all apps in this step.

Notification sound not playing on ipad IOS 7

When I recieve eMails or Alert notifications, the sounds do not play on my iPad 3G Retina Display, IOS 7.
But the sounds do play on my iPhone 3G! (Also IOS 7).
The settings are the same.
All other sounds play normally (Music, Videos etc.).
I have tried with various sounds.
Am I missing something???

By the way, I am also not getting any On Screen Notifications, even though they are turned on!

Notification sounds and key click come and go since upgrading to IOS 8.1.3 on iPhone 4s

Has anyone else had issues with the latest IOS update? Since I did it last night, my key click sound and my notification sounds come and go on there own. Even if it is not on silent.

If you are having issues with your sounds on your iPhone being inconsistent, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
Force an app to close in iOS - Apple Support
Next, I would try restarting and if needed resetting the iPhone -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups

IOS 6 Notification sound not working!!

Hi everyone, when I updated my iphone 4s to the latest version of OS meaning IOS6, I noticed that the sound in notification is not working. Only displaying the notification. Anyone anyone else have this problem and if so how to solve it please ?

I've had exactly the same problem! Also the silent button on the side isnt working either. Calls seem to be ok, but emails sms facebook, none of those sounds work. Have you found a solution?
No I haven't. The difference is that my silent button is working and even sound when receving and email or an sms's. My issue is the sound of the notification of the applications. For example facebook, F1Live24 ..

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

I have deleted texting app and reinstalled, all notification sounds are on and up. I have my iPod so it never shuts down and still nothing. When I have the app open I have to pull down the page to refresh b4 notification comes through. Please help b4 the update it worked fine. NOW

Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release the buttons...

No email notification sound iOS 8

I do not get a badge or sound for a new email on my charter,net acct. My exchange acct and yahoo acct all show a badge and a notification sound. The phone settings are identical on all accts. Charter says it's an apple problem and apple says its a charter problem. My wife has the same issue on her phone. This is all since ios8 update.
Any help out there?

@Meg St._Clair: Sincerely I don't like the Apple Mail app for using with gmail. I prefer using directly Google web app which keeps closer to my browser gmail experience (conversation view and coloring and threading). By the way, I noticed that Apple Mail app shows some differences in threading email conversations and it makes things messy to me (the same conversation shows different email counts in Apple Mail than in original Gmail interface, may be sometimes Apple Mail splits conversations that gmail keeps unified).

Notification sounds not correct

I thought I posted this earlier this week, but it's nowhere to be found, so here it goes again. I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 7, but this problem started with my iPhone 4S and has continued. All of my notifications play the correct sound, except for Facebook and Twitter. When I receive a Facebook notification, no sound at all plays (except for when I receive a Facebook message). This started after I did an iOS update (not a major one) on my 4S. I have the sound for Twitter notifications set to "Tweet," but it plays the "Tri-Tone" sound instead -- which was also the case on my old iPhone. I have gone in and changed the settings to a bunch of different tones, then back to the ones I want, but to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hey, were you able to come up with ANY info on this problem?
i have had this problem since i got my iphone5 in february/2013, and its continued onto my new iPhone5S.
The best i could come up with, through research and first-hand experience is that the "Facebook" and "twitter" tone options DO work, but only when it is an OUTGOING action YOU PERFORMED (ie a tweet that YOU posted, or a facebook post that YOU posted)
and since newer iphones have facebook and twitter integration, The facebook and Twitter tones also work for facebook Chat/messages that you receive, and twitter direct/instant messages that you receive.
As for the other types of notifications that you get from facebook and twitter (ie. Wall posts,being tagged in photos, twitter mentions/@replies, or notifications from people you are following{if turned on})
:::these notifications seem to fall into the same category of MOST notifications from ANY App that you download from the app store.
It seems thats MOST apps do not have a specific notification sound programmed, and ANY notifications that you have selected to receive are carried out with a "default" Apple Notification tone (which appears to be the classic Tri-Tone).
I have arrived at this conclusion because in the Settings->Sounds menu, only Device Functions are listed and thus able to have their Tone Changed.
ALSO; in Settings->Notification Center, You will notice that when you click on the various 'apps' listed:
*****'Stock' Apps (Messages, Phone, Facetime, Reminders, Calender etc.) have sub-options to change the name of the 'Sound' 's Tone (which appears there)
*****while ALL OTHER Downloaded apps only have a sub-option slider/knob to turn the 'Sound' either 'ON' or 'OFF'
Since there is no option to select a 'Tone' then it is safe to assume that the activated 'Sound' is the Device's default tone.
THEREFORE...if there is no options -WITHIN THE APPLICATION ITSELF- to change the Sound or Tone of their Notifications...the question/objective Now seems to be: How can we change our Device's default Notification Sound?

TS4002 How can I get a notification sound when an email arrives?

I am using Safari and icloud to manage and check emial. I am not receiving a notification sound. How can I get an audiable sound to alret me?

Thank you. I meant new mail alert sound, but I didn't word it right I just want to know when new mail comes in, but its not happening. I have done different methods, including the one you suggest, but it will alert sometimes and most of the times it doesn't. For a while when I got my phone (Iphone4) and downloaded IOS6 it worked. It stopped working when I had to reset my phone to factory settings a week ago.
IOS has been updated and I have the latest software,. but it will not alert me each time I get mail. In few occassions I get the Ding of new mail, but for 15 mails I get maybe 2.

Notification sounds and alarm vibrate

How do I change the sound for notifications from third-party apps (e.g. App of the Day)? By notifications, I mean the banners on the lock screen or on the top of the screen. When I go to sounds in settings, there is no option for notification sounds (iOS 8.0.2). It only has voicemail, calendar and reminder alerts. Also, is it possible to turn off vibration for the alarm and timer?

Look in settings within the app itself. If the apps do not offer that setting within the app, you can't change the sound. Not all apps give you the option.

Notification sounds in 3rd party apps

I'd like to use different notification sounds for Facebook and my news apps. Can this be done in iOs 5?

If this were possible, the option would be available at Settings > Notifications > FaceBook and for your news app.

Not receiving twitter notification sounds in IPhone 5s.

I have bought iPhone 5s recently and downloaded the twitter app. Unfortunately, even after fiddling with all the sound settings, I do not receive the notification sound for twitter either when my tweet is re-tweeted, favourited or when I receive a mention. However, I always duly receive the email notification whenever any of the aforesaid action happens.
A help would be appreciated.

If you're not receiving notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Verify that the app supports notifications.

Check Settings > Notification Center to ensure that the app is configured for notifications. If notifications do not appear in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.

How do I give each of my email accounts different notification sounds in ios7

I have my work email and my personal email on my phone. I'd like to give each email account a different notification sound so I can tell if I need to check my email then or if I can p let it sit.

Sorry, there is no way to do that under iOS.
By the way, I don't believe this can be done under the Mac operating system either.

There is no quick and easy way to silence all alerts in iOS while allowing the phone to ring. The alarm will always sound, even if the silent switch is activated (provided the phone is not powered off entirely).
Many people have asked for a 'bedside mode' similar to that offered by other smartphones. In this state, the alarm would still sound if set, and the phone would ring for incoming calls, but no other alerts will sound.
Though it can't be done in software settings, the equivalent can easily be acheived by plugging your headphones into the phone. The alarm and ringer will still sound through the phone speaker, but all other alerts will play only through the headphones.
