IOS 8 and contacts

Hi there,
Since updating my iPhone 5C to IOS 8 my contact list has changed.
When I start a new message and start typing the first letters of someones name a really long list of choices comes up  This list is much longer than before. I only want the list to contain people who's names start with the letters I type. Now I get people who have those letters in their address or email.
i.e. If start typing Mar for someone called Marissa I get people in the list whose names don't have Mar in them but do have St Mary's in their address!!
Any ideas how to only get suggestions that relate to peoples names not other info that is in their contact info.

Hi,
I was able to find a fix to this problem. What I ended up doing (not fun, but works) is backing up my contacts and removing them from EVERY device. Then, I went into every device and removed call/text/contact history. Once I did that, you can re-add the contacts back. All my contacts were in iCloud which made things much simpler. You can easily back up iCloud contacts from iCloud.com to a file, then re-upload the file once done. In order to fully remove the history from the messages app though, you need to follow a similar procedure here: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/remove-recent-contacts-iphone-messages/ -- You can type each letter of the alphabet and remove every contact that way. Don't forget to remove entries that didn't have a name, so you may want to also type 1-10 and remove those too. I didn't find a way to do this on Mac OS X, but it still helped without doing it on OS X. Hopefully this helps, and I know this is a lot, so if you need clarification. please reply and I'd be happy to help break things down.
