IOS 8 Backup PDF's

i have a significant collection of pdf books in iBooks, around 4.5GB
SInce upgrading to iOS 8 I can't find a way of backing them up
i purchased extra storage on the iCloud to save them, but can't find any setting to include them in backup
I connected to iTunes on PC to try and extract them, but only see the purchased book
i want to do a clean install of iOS 8 in the hope my iPad runs smoother, but don't want to lose my books, I don't have the copies anywhere else

The contents of the iBooks app are not included in a backup (nor are the contents of the Music and Videos apps), instead an iTunes restore looks to pick them up from the Books part of your iTunes library (or Mac's iBooks app if using a Mac with OS X Mavericks on it).
Prior to starting the update did you do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them over (it will copy PDFs and/or epubs in the iPad's iBooks app, not just actual ibooks) to your iTunes library (and if using a Mac with Mavericks on it do File > Move Books From iTunes in its iBooks app to copy them over) ? If you did then they should be in your library so that you can sync them back

  • IOS Backup Questions

If there is a better place for my issue, please tell me.
Yesterday I performed a Restore on both my iPhone 5 and iPad3.  The settings on both were for iCloud backups.  With the iPhone, I got options to choose from several iCloud backups.  I got what I selected - but that Restore did not include some items such as Camera Roll images, modifications/additions to Grocery Gadget App, weather cities, etc.
With the iPad Restore, I was only given the option to Restore from my iMac and the most recent Backup listed was August 23, 2012 (there were maybe 6 others going back to right after the iPad3 was released - got it the first day)  The Restore included as far as I can tell everything.
Both devices had iOSA 6.0.1, my iMac is 10.8.2
This leaves me with  questions -
#1  How does one get to choose the restore from location?  My iPad is backed up in the iCloud - I can see the usage from my iPhone (Settings; iCloud; Manage Storage)
#2  Are the items stored fundamentally different with a PC vs iCloud storage?  i.e. do app settings get stored locally, but not in the cloud?  If there is no fundamental differenece, why did I get a camera roll restored from the local/iMac backup, but not the iCloud backup?
#3  I have found the backups on my iMac and have dug far enough to know I have some old backups for devices I no longer own -- like the Original iPad and an iPhone 4.  Is there any reason to keep these?  Any danager in deleting all of them?  How do I determine which BU goes with which device?
#4  iOS Backup Extractor is one tool for retrieving images form these backups.  Are others better or commonly recommended?
#5  Is there any downside with forcing a local Backup on my iPhone and then using the clould at a later date? Based on my experience it would seem the local Backup has more data.

If you get the message "Backup not successful",  I had the same problem.
My solution was to turn off some apps (Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap my device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options) and try a manual backup.  If it didn't work, turn off a few more apps and try a backup.  Keep doing that until the backup works.  Then try adding in some of the last batch of apps that were previously turned off - the objective is to find the app that causes the backup to fail.  For me, I suspect that the one app I found had a bad data file that, when included in the backup, caused the backup to quit.
This can be a long process if you have a lot of apps that you originally turned on for backups.

  • How to relocate ios backup in Itunes?

How can I relocate the Itunes IOS backup in Mac? I dont have enough space on my main drive and I want it to save on my external drive. You cant just edit this yourself in Itunes (even after years). I think Apple did this on purpose so people will buy more Icloud space. Not very costumer friendly if you ask me. Also, I never see a video about it....how strange, because allot of people think this is handy. Because on a SSD on your mac it is not easy to backup 20gb for just your IOS divice and I use Ipad and Iphone.

Tnx, but I already saw that one ( it was the first search that I tried on). I google it after all. I'am actually looking for a video that shows me to doe this backup trick on the mac, because it is not working for me. I think I am missing something or I am doing something the wrong way. But with a video I can just do axaclty the same. Much easier. So I cant understund why I can not find a video for it.....but thanks for the link anyway .

  • Renditions, iOS Viewer PDF, Android Viewer PNG

The iOS viewers now support PDF folios, including interactive overlays. Two questions...
I have existing folios at 1024 x 768, but look awful on iPad 3. Is it worth it to republish folios to iOS in PDF format still at 1024 x 768? Would they look better as PDF on iPad 3?
Going forward publishing new folios. I will publish iOS folios as PDF. Then make another PNG rendition for Android? How do I differentiate between PDF and PNG renditions if they are the same dimensions?
    Dave

    Dave,
We have begun working on our magazines in the same fashion. 1024x768 at PDF format. Text and images look fantastic on iPad1&2 and the new iPad. Make sure you are using quality art to ensure quality images on both iOS screens. Keep in mind any overlays will not render as a PDF so plan ahead. If you have type in an overlay, OR an entire page that scrolls. it will not appear crisp. I reccomend testing as much as you can. If you cannot live with a few pieces of your issues being a little rough around the edges (literally) then conisder redesigning those few pieces.
As far as Android, I kind of have the same question. However, what we have noticed in trying to solve this problem is that there is a declining interest in the Android platform for our magazines. Over the past 5 months our number of active Android users has dropped 53 percent while iOS is constantly increasing. At this point Android devices make up a total of 5% of our total tablet readership. Before we resolve this Android question here, we may pull support for the device period until it makes more sense to invest the time in creating a second mag for it. If Android could accept PDF pages we would have no issues at all and would continue support but with this lack of interest it is hard to justify
    Hope that helps,
    Luke

  • Missing iOs backup

help please. all downloaded applications from my laptop including iTunes were removed after doing "Refresh your PC" (a Windows 8 procedure that changes your PC settings back to their defaults, lets you keep your files however apps you installed will be removed) since I was having some issues with my hard disk. i reinstalled my itunes and managed to restore my iTunes library following this procedure http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751. However, upon checking Edit > Preferences > Devices > Device backups, I found it empty. I also tried looking for the  iOs backup data here: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\, this was also empty. Is there any way I can retrieve these iOs backups somewhere?

    Doubtful.

  • New to iOS - backup and security

    Hi guys,
Just bought my first iPhone (3GS) so I'm a novice when it comes to iOS. I would appreciate if someone could answer a couple of questions I have regarding my device:
    1. I am running Windows Vista, and noticed iTunes backs up my iPhone when connected. Is it possible for me to store backups of these backups externally so I can restore in the event of a hard drive failure?
    2. I am reluctant to upgrade to iOS 4, solely due to performance issues. I am aware of an update to iOS 4 which plugs a security vulnerability relating to PDF viewing. Does this vulnerability exist in 3.1.3? For the record, I am not interested in jailbreaking.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. I am running Windows Vista, and noticed iTunes backs up my iPhone when connected. Is it possible for me to store backups of these backups externally so I can restore in the event of a hard drive failure?
Yes. The backup file locations are listed in:
    <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766>
    (Click "Expand All Sections".)
Note that the backup does not include music, so you should also backup your iTunes library.
    2. I am reluctant to upgrade to iOS 4, solely due to performance issues.
That may be a problem currently with the 3G, but not with a 3GS. 4.0.2 works fine on my 3GS.

    Yes.

How can I create a separate folder in ios for my pdf files?

    Hi Artistdeet,
For this you have to follow certain steps-
    1. Tap on Document tab from left pane of Adobe Reader.
    2. Tap on 'Edit' button placed at right side of top toolbar.
    3. Tap on "folder icon with plus sign", it will ask you to enter the folder name.Enter desired folder name by which you want to create the folder.
Hope this will solve your problem.

  • Is it possible to recover overwritten iOS backups?

I recently backed up my iphone to itunes, bofore i restored it to factory settings. when I then tried to restore my iphone to my backup, it was nothing there. I believe the old backup may have been overwritten automatically when i inserted my iphone to my mac again. is it then possible to recover these files somehow?

There is some way to simply download the iOS (as compared to download and install).
If you download and install, you are required to keep the iPhone attached to iTunes throughout the download.  If you simply download, there is an "eject" button that shows up during the download, and you may press that and remove the iPhone from iTunes.  I suggest this latter approach.  Then once the download completes, you can reconnect the iPhone to iTunes and complete the process.

  • IOS backup storage not on C: drive via Windows XP

Is it possible to store backup files of iOS-devices anywhere else but C: disk drive via Windows XP? I can't update my iOS-devices to iOS 5, because I don't have enough space on the C: drive and therefore I can't accomplish backup process.
    Thanks.

You can redirect <Profile>\<AppData>\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup to a folder on another drive using NTFSLink(shell ext., might only work on XP) or Junction (cmd line tool).

  • Move iOS Backups to External Drive?

I am switching from a 750GB internal drive to a 256GB SSD on my MacBookPro. I have a 64GB iPad and a 64GB iPhone, both of which are almost full. To back up both devices uses almost 128GB on my internal drive, which will not work for me. The iCloud storage option is very expensive.
I would like to figure out a way to back up to an external drive. I read about a way to do this from MobileMe days, but not sure if it will work now. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this with Lion/iCloud/iOS5?
    Thank you.

I recently installed an external Thunderbolt SSD which is now my boot drive, everything from my internal drive was cloned to it. I want to move my iPhone backups back to the internal HDD so they don't eat up space on my external SSD. I tried the code listed here but it's not working. When I entered the code, Terminal said "The file exists", but it's still writing backups to the external drive. Here's the code I used:
    ln -s /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Backup/ ~/Library/Application\ Support/MobileSync/Backup
    Where am I going wrong?

  • Any way around iOS backups being stored on C: drive?

I have an SSD I use for windows as a C drive which has about 10 gig free usually.  I have iTunes set up to keep my library and such on another drive.  The backups for my 64 gig iPad often fill the limited C drive space I have.  For the life of me I can't imagine why Apple would be so sloppy as to have the backup location not be configurable.  I want to keep a backup around but at this point I have to delete all of them because they quickly fill 7 or 8 gigs.  Fom what I have read here and online even the mac version has the backup location non-configurable.  Really baffling.

Time machine may be fantastic and all but i don't have an external hd besides my ps3 and a couple of flash drives. not really interested in using 80 gigs of my 80 gig ps3 for a backup. on windows there is an option for a restore pt. it allowed for a user to take the computer back to some previous pt in the computer's life where the virus you found wasn't there or the file you deleted is still available. all i want is a restore pt on my mac. thoughts? what are my options?
your ONLY option is an external drive. there are lots of backup tools in OS x but all of them need an external source to store the backups.

  • IOS 4 Pdf manual - too big for iBooks!!!

Thought the putting the manual in iBooks would be a good way to test drive new app. Well.... first you have to email the pdf (14 meg) and then it is too big to move into iBooks. Apple you can do better than this!!

OK. Now I see the details of your issue with iBooks.
Save the PDF file on your desktop or someplace where you can easily find it.
Open iTunes and connect the iPod Touch to it.
Now simply either drag it directly to the books on your iPod Touch or drag it to books on your iTunes and sync. This should put the document in on your iBooks app shelf. Be sure to click on the PDF tab in your app to display the PDF books.

  • Problems with ios reading pdf

Please help. Whenever I send a pdf form that I created in Acrobat x pro to a customer, they can see the background form, but not the content that i fill in on the form. What can i do to solve this.
    Thanks

I uploaded a pdf-Portfolio with examples in Acrobat.com. The Portfolio contains
a pdf generated directly by a scanner-software embedding jpeg2000-images with gentle jpeg2000-compression. The scanner is professional (costs more than 100 K$)
a pdf/a 2b version file from the scanned pdf (1.). The pdf/a conversion was - by the way -  not done using Acrobat-Preflight, cause the process pdf/a 2b of Acrobat Preflight changes the greyscale images to RGB (why?).
a pdf/a 2b with lossless jpeg2000 conversion of an uncompressed tif previously exported by Acrobat 10.1.3 (without problems) out of example 1. Also this pdf/a 2b is not created with Adobe Acrobat, cause batch clipping of tif-subfolders to one pdf for each folder is - unfortunately - not part yet of my Acrobat-Skills. I am still forced to use another tool for that one.
Reproduce bug: Open the file with Adobe Acrobat 10.1.4.: Zoom the image to 150%, try to print, try to export the image as tif. Note: all the files or images are decoded correctly by 10.1.3., so that zooming, printing, exporting is working just fine.
    URL: https://acrobat.com/#d=1blaLcFPbb1YtodAThb3uw
The document is now shared to public viewing.
Help us: I guess that Billions of documents are stored with jpeg2000-compression, which is as far as I am concerned - a reasonable strategy for a good balance between storage costs and image quality. To read them and work on them, I personally still prefer Adobe products. Good luck!
