IOS 8 battery usage feature

just found this in settings & looks brilliant and useful!  games take up most battery usage but there is home & lock screen battery usage & it's quite high is that from me just pressing the home key to wake my phone up or is when I go from screen to screen of my apps on my home screen? it takes up a lot of battery!  also if it's games that take a lot of battery if I force close them & stop them running in the background will that cut the battery usage down?

I heard about this before iOS 8 became available and wanted to try it.
I found this in the Settings / Usage menu. On my iPhone 6, it says "Battery information will be available after using the iPhone for a few minutes". And doesn't update.
Does this work as expected for you? Did you see that message at all?
Thanks very much.

  • How does iOS assess battery usage?

I suspect that my iPhone 6 Plus isn't giving me the battery life it should.  What I am finding is this:
When going to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage, I find that iOS will give me an accurate standby time.  However, the Usage time is way, way too high.  I could use the phone for thirty minutes, and it'll record almost two hours of usage time.  Now, I understand that iOS may talley up the amount of time the phone spends collecting emails and other data from other apps, but still, the usage time it gives me is unreasonably high.
Per Apple, I should get "up to" twelve hours of web browsing.  I'd be lucky if the phone lasted for six hours of web browsing.
Am I missing something here, or am I dealing with a phone with a bad battery?

  • IOS 4 battery usage (again)

I have a new (actually 6-month old) 3GS which is running iOS 4.1, whereas previously I had an iPhone 3G with iOS 3.1.3. I do have push notifications enabled (yet receive very few) and only check email manually. Am not connected to a Wifi network (although Wifi is on, bluetooth is off; 3G is off as well). However, what I've noticed is a persistent, albeit slow battery drain when my phone is in its locked state (perhaps 10-11% overnight). I don't recall this happening on the 3G / 3.1.3.
Is this to be expected? I'm getting close to 5 hours of use on my iPhone 3GS with all activities (internet, light phone use, etc). Is that what one can expect?

Never mind, I see there is already a huge thread on this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2474499

  • Ios 8 battery usage

JJust updated to iOS 8 on my 4th gen ipad. It's now eating my battery. Anyone else notice this? Don't have stats yet, but it's never done this before.

I updated to ios 8 on my iphone 5. my phone used to last a couple to several days with the limit use I give it. 4 hours after updating to ios8 my phone was down to less than 8%. I recharged it and again the battery lasted around 4 hours on standby. I tried every posted solution even restoring to factory setting and reinstalling ios8. no change. contacted apple and the tech worked with me to go through the steps to install as new. no change. I can watch the battery drop one % every couple of min. Techs claims I need to send my phone in for repair. worked fine up until I upgraded to 8. I think the solution is to upgrade to droid. anyone want a couple of iphones and ipads. I give up.
IBM products never gave me these problems.

  • IPhone 6 Battery Usage function not working

Battery Usage feature continues to read; "Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few minutes" even though I have now had the phone and used it for one week. Using iPhone 6, 64G, IOS 8.0.0.(no iOS updates have yet been applied)
A few days ago I attempted some suggestions posted by others. One of those was to let the battery drain to zero then fully charge. This had no affect on the Battery Usage feature. Another suggestion that i tried was to close all open apps on phone, then shut down phone and then turn back on. This did not resolve the Battery Usage issue either.
Is apple aware of this issue? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello.
I have the same problem. iPhone 5, iOS8.0.2, used for a few days - still no usage statistics, only "Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few minutes".
I tried restore iPhone (DFU) without restoring backup from iCloud/iTunes, resets, hard-resets, erase all settings, drain battery to 0% and charge to 100% overnight etc. - nothing helps.
I wrote to the Apple about this problem.
Here is the page that you can use to contact with Apple and report a bug - https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Please, give the title of "iOS8 battery usage statistics not working" (or something like that), choose the "Bug report" and describe the problem. Perhaps it will make that Apple will eliminate this problem in the next version of iOS. More report - greater chance.

  • Battery Usage Screen won't display any (app) data

    Hi Folks.
I was so lucky that I've got a new iPhone 6 just 20 mins after inital sales here in Germany. On my way to the office in the morning I checked the device, and I really liked the Battery Usage feature. Waited so long for that. However, back in my office I connected the device with my Mac to install my last backup from my old iPhone 5s. That worked as designed, pretty good and without any issues.
But now the Battery Usage Screen that can be found under Settings > General > Usage > Battery Usage is empty. I only see a switch between the last 24 hours or 7 days, and thats it. There is a hint saying that I have to use the phone for a few minutes unless data is available, but I used it quiet a lot in the last two days Reboot haven't worked, same with killing the Settings app.
Does anyone have the same issue? Google don't know anything yet, same with this board here.
    Thanks for any answer...

Mine started working today. I did reset settings in Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Settings. It took about 20 minutes for it to start working and I'm not 100% sure if this is what fixed but I thought I'd pass it along.

  • IOS 8.1.2 safari battery usage

Ever since updating to iOS 8.1, my iPad battery life has declined to the point that i have to recharge every day.
the only things i use my iPad for are safari, Facebook, google play books, stock music app, and youtube.
I've checked battery usage, and safari has 90 percent of the battery usage.
i have also factory reset the device, tried to keep screen brightness below 50 percent, and shut all apps, but that makes no difference.
i have also updated to iOS 8.1.2, and it made no difference.
am also considering a nexus 9

i have same problem, than battery percentage jump from 60 to 45 e in this way my problem is very bud. ios 8 last update is installed on my iphone 5. i think that it is a bug software, and i think this because i called apple support and diagnostic realt time with operator say that my battery life is better. and after home button bug fixed with ios 8.1 now i have this. this ios 8 is the worse update ever.

  • Does SMS relay iOS 8.1 cause extra iPhone battery usage?

I was messing with both SMS relay the other day and noticed that my battery drained almost twice as fast..
I was also messing with handoff and basically just testing the new integration features between Yosemite and iOS8.1
But my question is about SMS relay.. Does anyone know if this will us up more iPhone battery than if I wasn't using SMS relay and just SMSing from the iPhone itself?
Does SMS relay work via bluetooth? Could this be a cause for extra battery usage? It could be possible that I was jus using my phone a bit extra that day but I just want to make sure as I have SMS relay turned off for now, don't want battery life dropping..
    -Frank

I had the same problem. I realized that it had everything to do with my calendar app. My iCalendar was having a difficult time fetching information from my Outlook and Yahoo Calendar. Causing my battery percentage to decline at a very rapid rate. (50% in a 4 hour time frame). I resolved the  problem by going into my Settings >" Messaging , Contact , Calendar" Setting > Clicking on one of my selected Accounts ( Outlook or Yahoo) and turning off the Calendar Sync. The problem seemed to go away after doing this. Now I'm only using 4% battery life in a 4 hour time frame in StandBy Mode. Well I Can only hope that this will help resolve the battery drainage issue. Good Luck ....

  • Excessive battery usage since IOS 8 update

    Help!!!
I've a iphone 4s & have recently completed the IOS 8 update on my handset
Ever since completing this, my battery 'usage' has been excessive & my phone never lasts more than 7-8 hrs even though for the majority of this time, the handset is locked & in my pocket at work!!!
Prior to this update, I'd return home from work with at least 30-40% battery life but now the handsets died before I finish my shift!!!! Frustrating is an understatement.....
Another example is after charging fully this morning, my handset says its been on standby for 2hrs 5 mins yet has been used for 1 hr 45 mins..... I've been asleep for most of this time so how does that work?!?!
Please can you provide me with an idiots guide to reducing this ridiculous level of 'usage'
Many thanks for your help in advance

  • Home & Lock screen battery usage 47%

Iphone 5 IOS 8.  In checking the new features on IOS 8, I noticed that the Battery Usage for Home & Lock Screen is 47%.  Battery replaced on 09/12/14.  Is this normal?

I have been having this issue off and on since the 8.0.2 update. I seemed to fix it, then 8.1 brought it back... thought I got it in order again, and mostly, it runs ok..then suddenly the battery just drains like crazy! Granted... my phone is about a year old, so probably is about time to replace the battery anyway... but it's this unpredictability that is bothering me! I almost have to keep it plugged in at night now because I use it as an alarm clock, and a couple of times, the battery has nearly totally drained within just a few hours of sitting there! Last night, I know I looked at it in the middle of the night and it was at about 85%, but then this morning, suddenly, it had dropped to less than 10%! Same thing earlier this week. It was sitting on my desk by my computer and it had been fine and suddenly the insufficient battery symbol was flashing! If it were just the battery going bad, I would have expected it to consistently drain, but it seems fine some days.
One thing I did consider is that we have some apple charger cables and some cheap, third party ones....and sometimes it seems that, while they seem to charge the phone, that the charge doesn't hold as well... but it isn't consistent either. I do know that the colorful ones target sells are NOT good! they cut off some of the sound when plugged in (video, text alerts etc), and if you try to use it as a data transfer cable to your computer, the transfer seems to get stuck.

  • IPhone 6 Battery Usage setting not working.

When I go to my setting and check my Battery Usage setting it states: "Battery information will be available after using iPhone for a few minutes". I've been using it for hours and I get the same response when I go to the setting. I've turned off my phone multiple times to see if that would resolve it, but it hasn't. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Get the battery usage of single application programmatically in ios7 and later

Not natively with iOS. you might check the app store for a battery monitoring app, but to be honest, it you find one that claims to be able to do this, I'm nopt sure I would trust it.

    iPod touch, iOS 6.1.1
like Diavonex stated, you could use an app created to check the battery percentage
but remember, google is your best friend =^)

  • IOS 8 battery problem with iphone 4s

I installed IOS 8 over the weekend on my iphone 4S.  My phone is completely dead because of the battery drain to fast.   for example it was 100% fully charged, left alone for 20 min later (without using it), the power went down to 72% .  or went to bed power at 85%, the phone went dead next morning.  another occasion: left the house at 65% power,  it went dead after 2 hrs WITHOUT A SINGLE USE.  I went to the Setting so many times to see anything that unusual, I turned of: Background App Refresh,  Turned off Location Services (each App too), etc..  I done everything I can, still the battery draining too fast.   Apple what have you done, this is causing so much grief !!!!  I need help !!!!    another problem,  when I am in an App ( i.e.  CNN)  to see the news with video.   I see the video, but no VOLUME.  looks like the volume button is disabled nothing there.

This sounds as if an app keeps running in the background although you don't use it or allowed it to use it in the background.
Did you already check Battery usage to see which app you didn't use much (or not at all) causes a major use in battery. See also this article and this one on iMore.
I've seen others who had background process off for e.g. Google Hangout and Skype but still had major battery usage since iOS8.
Please look also into the apps who are allowed to use 'Background refresh' and 'Push Notifications'.
I've had similar issues with another Dutch app called Scoupy after 6>iOS7 upgrade. I deleted the app and it resolved the battery drain. The app released an update (months later) which resolved the drain finally. It was however very hard in the previous versions to find out the app which caused the drain. In iOS8 that is much easier now.
