IOS 8 Brightness

I just updated my iPhone to iOS 8 and my brightness is all the way down to the lowest setting. I have auto-brightness on and it doesnt change. I hope this is a bug or I missed something. I have also tried to calibrate it several times.

yep...cant calibrate it..goes right back to dim in a lightly lit room...only way to have it at a decent screen level is to shut it off and manually set it..Apple has always had issues with this brightness control...lately on 7 it was too bright most of the time:(

  • Iphone 5 Ios 6.1.4 brightness problem

I have a problem with my iphone 5 running ios 6.1.4
Randomly, sometimes when pushing the home button, or pressing the power button, the brightness of the screen goes all the way down to zero (dimly lit).
I have to go in to settings and tap the brightness to get it to back to full.
(the slider bar shows maximum even if the screen is dark - auto brightness is set to off)
I've read many posts about calibrating , using auto-brightness etc., but I have auto-brightness set to OFF, and the brightness set to maximum. That is the way I like it.
So any ideas whats going on? How to fix the issue. I repeat - I do not want to use auto-brightness, I simply want the iphone brightness to be set to maximum, at all times.
    Thanks
    Mike

Your phone is inappropriately going into pre-autolock dimming.  Try:
    1. Reset phone (no data loss): press both power and home buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
    2. Restore in iTunes using a backup
    3. Restore in iTunes as new, without a backup.
If #3 doesn't help, there is a hardware problem that needs warranty service.

Have you tried a reboot of the iPhone?  Hold both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears and it restarts, ignoring the red slider if it appears.
My iPhone went to full brightness all the time after updating to iOS 6.1.3.  A reboot seems to have helped make it work as it should.  Also check Settings > Brightness and Wallpaper and see how it is set, reduce the brightness level it is too bright for you.

    Hello,
Same problem for me. Really a pain in the *** this bug ! Does Apple fixed it. I'm really suprised noone reports this problem  and apple does not adress this.
Because of that, I cannot give it anymore to children because it hurts the view. Really a shame on the part of apple !

  • I think I have one of the fast dying batteries 5s. Last 6 hrs and just texting not even a lot. Has iOS 7 on my 5 and was nowhere near this. Brightness 1/3 back grounding off. I would also like to know if I can add if you replace for bigger hard drive. i

I would also like a 32 none were available I took the first5s I could find. But the batterey is horrible. I barely even use is brightness low and does pretty fast on network. I think may be a bad battery like I read about. It's sb my messages I have none and takes up 3.4gb.... And there's only actually 13gn and 3 is the iOS so why don't you make a external hd or something it's crazy hard to even get the phone.

Take it to apple store and don't replace it with the new one my son had the same problem he was in there about 10 minutes and walked out with a new phone

  • My iPod Touch 5 brightness suddenly turned dim but when I go to my brightness and wallpaper page in settings it is at the middle (Normal Brightness). Is this a bug in ios 6 or something?

If the reset does not work I would try the following before going to Apple
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Has anyone else noticed that Auto-Brightness does work on iOS 6?

I recently  noticed that Auto-brightness does not work under iOS 6 for my iPhone.  Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

If it were the iOS, there would be a tremendous number of folks with this issue.
    It is not the iOS.
If resetting doesn't solve it, try restoring.

  • IOS 5.1.1 update reduced my iPad 2 screen's brightness by 10-20%

APPLE CPU HARDWARE / GRAPHIC TEAMS:  Once I updated my iPad 2 to the IOS 5.1.1, I *immediately* noticed that my screen's maximum brightness level has been noticeably reduced by approximately 10-15%, possibly even as much 20%, as compared to IOS 5.1
Even my 5 year old daughter immediately noticed the difference the moment she tried watching a movie. "Daddy, how come the screen is darker?".
Of course, this was a battery life call.  And I know the battery may be the single biggest source of pain for most of the hardware teams in IL5 and IL6 (etc).
The good folks in CPU Software who know me, also know of my reputation for freely voicing my opinions (regardless of who it annoys in management), but you all know I don't bother making noise unless it really is a worthy issue.
WIth the understanding that the screen brightness reduction "fix" was made with very good intentions, it is nonetheless, a BAD CALL.
Please consider fixing it in update 5.1.2., by allowing the user to make the judgement call for screen brightness vs. battery life.
    (On a scale of 1 -10)
    • Concern over losing a minute amount of battery life (beyond 6 hours life) = 5 (max).
    • Concern over losing a noticeable amount of screen brightness = 9.
Please contact me if you need more info.  Thank you very kindly.

I posted here because Apple does monitor these sites (like hawks).
Yes, it is a real and noticeable issue.  It may be specific to my unit's build date though (the battery components used, or screen components).  Apple knows all about it, believe me, and is hoping they won't see posts like this - here - on this user site.
I appologise if this post is perceived as being a misuse of this site, but it was, in fact, quite intentional.

  • Iphone 4s ios 8.1.2 auto brightness auto dim in bright place

    Hi,
my iphone 4s with ios 8.1.2 got auto brightness problem.
when i turn on the auto brightness function, it will automatic go to minimum brightness. i try under sunlight also get same result. may i know how to solve? thank you

    Hello there hebe2003,
It sounds like your Ambient Light Sensor keeps automatically dimming the screen when you have that function turned on, no matter the light conditions. I would recommend these troubleshooting steps from the following article, named:
Get help with the screen on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If you have a screen protector, try removing it. Try removing your case if it includes a screen protector.
If you see the issue in multiple apps, restart your device.
If restarting doesn’t fix the issue, restore your device.
If you still see the issue after you restore, contact Apple Support.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • IPhone 5 with iOS 8 - Auto Brightness too dim / dark

    Hi all,
I just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 and the auto brightness makes the screen too dark and hard to read.  This was not an issue with iOS 7 on my phone.  I've tried using some of the calibration tips online, but none seem to help.
When I am outside, it's fine, it will automatically adjust the brightness all the way up.  The issue is inside, then the auto-brightness will make the screen too dim to be able read very well.
I know I could turn off the auto brightness feature and manually adjust the brightness, but I really liked the feature with iOS 6 and iOS 7.
Is anyone else having this issue?  Any tricks I could do to fix this, or is this just an issue with iOS 8 on iPhone 5s?  It would be nice if Apple gave us more control with auto brightness, like maybe letting us set the min and max brightness when it is on auto.
I did see this post from jedi31780 where his iOS 8 auto brightness isn't adjusting at all, but other than that, I haven't see any other posts online about this yet.
    iOS 8 Brightness
    Thanks

Thanks!  I went into settings under brightness when I was in a room where I felt the iPhone was too dim and I moved the brightness up till I was happy with it. it now uses that as a baseline and adjusts from there instead of where it was before, so no longer too dim. I thought I already tried that before, but either I adjusted it again to thy the calibration steps, or maybe I adjusted it from the "control center" screen and maybe that one doesn't save.
Either way, all is good now. Thanks for the tip!

  • Auto-brightness all over the place since iOS 8

Since upgrading to iOS 8 on my iPad 4, the brightness is all over the place when I turn the screen on. Sometimes it's too bright, sometimes it's too dark. I've tried manually adjusting it in the pull-up menu but I'm not sure what to set it at and the auto-brightness is still all over the place.
