IOS 8 contact sharing

My wife and I have one set of contacts which we share for family business and work. The new iOS 8 does not allow us to share contacts across different Apple IDs. Since contact sharing is so important to our lives, family, and business, most of the family sharing options are worthless to me since we cannot share contacts. Is there anyway to share contacts across different Apple IDs. Currently we are using just one Apple ID for the new iOS 8 system. That pretty much makes find my friends worthless to us.

With iOS 7 you would open your camera roll or album, select the photo you wanted, click on send as a message, then it would take you to the text screen where you could see the photo being sent as it asked you for the recipient's phone. Now when I click on send as a message it takes me to the text screen, but as you can see, the photo is not attached. Same thing with a contact…I can click on "share contact as a text message" but when it takes me to the text screen, nothing is attached.

  • Unable to use iMessage on Mac with non-IOS contact with Yosemite and IOS 8.1

I have an iPhone, an iPad running IOS 8.1, and a Mac running Yosemite.  I have set up all 3 to use iMessage, entering the codes as requested.  The 2 IOS devices work fine and the Mac works fine on messages to contacts with iPhones but non-IOS contacts remain red and are not accepted and if I try to send a group message with a non-IOS contact I get  "XXX cannot be added to the group chat - XXX is not registered with iMessage".  I have tried deleting and replacing the contact and it still will not accept her.  I understood that this would be fixed after updating to Yosemite and IOS 8.1 but the upgrades have not resolved the problem for me.
    In my Mac iMessage preferences:
1-I am signed in with my Apple ID and the account is enabled.
2-In the "You can be reached for messages at" field, I have my iPhone number, preceded by a +1 and the area code and 3 email addresses (icloud, me, and gmail)
3-in the "Start new conversations from" field, I have my cell phone number  - also with a +1 and area code.
4-I have checked all of my Apple ID and iCloud details and they are all correct.
All other Handoff features appear to be working correctly.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks very much -
    Mary Ellen

    Hi,
It will suggest and look like it will auto-complete until you type further.
As 204 is unlikely to be the full number the issue does not arise.
For instance if I start typing my name every option that I have listed with my name over three Contacts card (for my three computers) and some Accounts not linked to Address Cards are listed
Of course this lists also shows cross connections between the accounts making the list longer.

  • Contact sharing in OS 3.0 - privacy issue?

It's great that "Contact Sharing" is now available in 3.0, but how do I select which fields in the contact info I wish to share??
From what I can tell, the default setting is to send everything (including the notes field) which strikes me as absurd!? I make notes on almost every contact in my address book which are very personal and clearly I would be unlikely to want to share these... what i want to share is just name/phone number/address etc.
Is this just an oversight or am I missing an obvious piece of functionality??

hmmm, so it's an inherent limitation of using the vCard protocol? shame, it kinda makes it unuseable for me.
are you saying that you keep an edited duplicate of every card in your address book with minimal info solely for the purpose of being able to send them via vCard should the need arise?
if so, wow. that's quite a workaround...
i think i'll just find a paid app that allows me to edit the info i send.
Apple, if you're reading this, it would be great if you could figure out a way to have an option to trim the notes field from vCards before sharing them - this would be the optimal solution.

  • Error message with pics and contact sharing

all text messages that include a photo or a contact sharing info come across with the message" you can visit my text message at www.mms.... or something to this extent. MMS is turned on and I am using a 3gs iphone with the latest update

If you are in the U.S., your iPhone is running the current firmware and you have installed AT&T's carrier update for the iPhone which is required for this - done via iTunes, contact AT&T customer or technical support to check if MMS is provisioned for your line/number.

  • How do I consolidate all this at this point: Icloud Drive, Itunes Match, Local iTunes Library, Local iPhoto, Local Aperture, Photo stream, Familly sharing, sharing on iOS, music sharing on iOS, music sharing on mac etc.

I am trying to grasp all the possibilities for consolidating my stuff and my family's stuff from multiple devices and multiple accounts from multiple sources  but I cant.
I have been reading many instructions and FAQ regarding iCloud Drive, iCloud Sharing, iTunes Match, Familly Sharing, file size limitations on iCloud Drive, app sharing on iOS, Backup vs Sync vs cloud sharing,  storing iWork documents on iCloud drive, storing iTunes library on iCloud Drive, storing iPhoto library on iCloud Drive, storing Aperture library on the iCloud, the Photos app on iOS with iCloud and many others.... but I feel like I need a systems admin course from apple to manage all of it.
This is what I and my family currently have:
Hardware: Multiple iPhones, Multiple Macs, Apple TV (with hard drive), Multiple iPads.
Operating systems: Everything is upgraded to the latest iOS and Yosemite.
    Libraries:
    1)  Multiple iTunes Libraries locally stored on Macs and IPhones with lossless CD music and iTunes purchased music. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared iTunes library across ALL devices that contains our Lossless music and purchased music. so that it can be played across ALL   devices. With the ability to have private music for each individual (Not shared).
    b) Purchase new music and add it to the family share or purchase music and make it private (Not shared).
    2)  Multiple iPhoto Libraries macs (With photo stream from iPhones) and ONE Aperture Library on my mac. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared photo library that every one can deposit to and view.
    b) Store individual iPhoto libraries on iCloud Drive(s)? So that everyone can have their own library and edit it across THEIR devices.
    c) Store and use my Aperture Library on iCloud Drive?
    Other documents:
iWork files, PDFs etc. What I want to do:
    a) Have a main family shared area (on iCloud Drive i suppose) where we can share documents.
    b) Sync private documents across ALL individuals devices (Available locally and on iCloud).
    c) Store private documents (One instance)  on iCloud drive and make them available on ALL individuals devices.
    d) Backup of local documents?
    Apps:
    iOS apps:
    a) Share purchased apps?
    b) Not share private apps.
    Storage:
What do I purchase to accomplish the above:
    a) iCloud storage for everyone?
    b) iTunes Match for everyone?
    c) All of the above?
    Conclusion:
It would be great for Apple to explain all this with all the options in one concise document instead of hunting down individual documents and sections all over the place.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hey there!
You and I are data soulmates. I have been having this trouble for a while and have yet to get my head around it. Our problem is that we've cycled through multiple macs and the "home" or "host" for all the stuff that's now been moved or moving to the Cloud is very scattered. It drives me crazy... almost to the point where I'm thinking about starting a brand-new iCloud account and beginning from scratch.
If you have any experiences or recommendations you could share about your strategy, I would love to hear it.

  • How can I get iOS "Contacts" to sort search results on a name-first, other-fields-next basis?

Example: I type "jo sm" into the search bar in Contacts on iOS 7, expecting John Smith and Josephine Smolens to appear at the top of the list, as they are the only ones of my contacts whose name matches the pattern "jo* sm*".  Instead, they are perhaps numbers 15 and 34 on the list, as other peoples' Notes fields also contain the pattern "jo* sm*".
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

This does not answer my question.  I apologize for my lack of clarity when I tried to explain the problem.
To clarify: I'm not using wild card characters; I was just trying to explain the behavior I get and how it's different from what I want.  Let me try again a slightly different way:
When I type "jo sm" into the Search bar in iOS 7 Contacts, I want the first results to be the people whose First Name starts with (or even just contains) "jo" and whose Last Name starts with (or contains) "sm".
Instead, I get all contacts whose Notes contain the letters "jo" and "sm" anywhere at all (which is many many people), and they are given to me in an order that seems random.  Therefore, when I type "jo sm", I don't see the contact I'm looking for because he/she is routinely three pages down the list.
    Thanks in advance!

  • IOS 8 Shared Photos Stored Twice on Devices?

I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad Air, both with iOS 8.1.2 installed, and both using the iCloud Photo Library Beta feature. I've been taking photos on my phone as I normally would, and I love that they're all automatically on the iPad. I've also been sharing pictures of our new puppy with family, and have suddenly noticed that the space on my two devices is quickly depleting.
From what I can tell, looking at my photo libraries, it seems to me that the photos I've shared are actually being stored twice on my devices, once in the iCloud Photo Library, and once in the shared album. Is this the intended functionality? If that's the case, it seems rather short sighted. Is there some way to avoid this? Can't iCloud see that the metadata is the same for the pictures, and just store one version on the devices?
Is there another way to share the pictures via iOS and not have this duplication take place?

Now I have no idea what is stored where...Are the photos automatically removed from the device after they are pushed to the photo stream?
The photos you took with your device or saved to your device are stored on the device, and photos shared to the photo stream will stay on your device as well.
Now the only clue, if a photo is locally stored, is if you can edit it. Wait for the next iOS release 8.1. Things may change.

  • IOS contact lists revert to all when one contact is deleted

Running iOS 7.0.3 on mini. I have multiply contact lists as a result of syncing with our Exchange 2010 sp3 server. Was attempting to delete old contacts and each time I do all of my contact lists, including "suggested contacts" enable themselves. To be clear if I click on "groups" and then enable only one list to display, if I delete one contact from that list, iOS then enables all the lists and fills the contacts view with lots of extra addresses. I had this issue on 7.02 and 7.03. What is more odd is this does not happen on my 5S running 7.02.  Both devices use same iCloud and Exchange accounts.

Check Settings>General>Date & Time>Set Automatically>On. Make sure that the time zone setting is also set correctly.
If that wasn't the problem, restart your iPad and try again. If that fails, reset your iPad and try again. Quit iTunes and restart your computer as well. Turn off your firewall and antivirus software when you attempt the update again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Bug in iOS Contact

This looks like a bug with the latest iOS update. I can't seem to go to a specific field in Contacts, the cursor jumps to the next field. The only way to update that field then is to go to the previous field. But that leaves me with the problem of filling in First Name....
    Anyone else facing this?

Try power cycling your device. If that doesn't work, then try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. Test then. I actually added two different contacts today on my iPhone 5s running iOS 8.1. Once I added from a phone call I received, the second was just adding one from scratch in Contacts.

  • How to audit Mac, iCloud, iOS contacts for errors?

Don't miss Winston Churchhill's Address Book Accounts Basics (with iCloud).
On syncing: is there an Applescript or utility that will audit every linked iCloud account, Mac and iOS device for discrepancies between the Contacts databases? I thinking of the simple case like ours, where we want everything stored in the iCloud Account once-only-once, plus whatever Group-ings are useful.
Even better - a script or utility that will force synchronization?

Thanks heaps Julian for your nearly instant reply.
Out here in the South Pacific where we get intermittent Internet connectivity, with gaps of weeks, the sync issue seems to me to be more complex. For sure, some of this could well be due to configuration/preferences errors.
E.g., we registered for iCloud sync within a couple of months of Lion release. We bought all of Joe Kissel's relevant Take Control books and tried hard to make the migration from Leopard/Mobile Me error-free. Long-story short, I'm looking at an iPad/Contacts that displays all of the groups from the pre-Lion Mac Pro Address Book, an unknown number of entries in the All Contacts view (some of which are local-only entries?). NB that 5 hours ago I deleted some ten of those groups from Mac Pro Address Book. But they still appear on the iPad.
And AFAIK there is no way to display the item counts. E.g., how many unique contacts exist on
    iCloud
    iPad1
    iPad2
    MBP
    MP
How many contacts in each group? What groups do a contact belong to (option key trick)?
Today I discovered that both Macs had (I think) incorrect preferences left over from the iCloud migration. That is Address Book/Preferences/General should have had Default Account = iCloud but actually were set to "On my Mac".
So every new contact would automagically NOT SYNC. We made the incorrect assumption that following Apple's migration instructions would "just work" as they have typically for almost 30 years:-)
So I am trying to clean up all sources of errors and make every device identical. Absolutely guaranteed identical.

  • IOS contacts issue

After i upgrade my iphone from 4.3.3 to 5.0, its very difficult to  view contacts. If I save a contact including country code, the names will not appear in incoming calls but name appear in message and vs.
So this is like old Nokia phones. I wonderwhether this is a bug or Apple just changed this whole thing. Its very difficult when this happens. I have to save every contact with country code and without. This is a temp solution i found. I think iOS 4.3.5 contacts works same as this. I kindly request Apple to fix this.

Is this forum only for the US? Maybe I'm intruding here by posting this?
Not only the Verizon version unfortunately. We have the same problem here in some parts of the Middle East. I have heard reports from Kuwait and Bahrain, and I'm located in Oman and the problem exists here as well. And no solution except downgrading the phone back to iOS 4.3.5.

  • Facebook Contacts & iOS Contact Sync

inhave iOS 8.1 and my Facebook app is up to date. When I go into settings and then Facebook and then hit update contacts my friends photos aren't syncing to my contacts. Also, what if someone on Facebook isn't using the same name as the one in my contact list? Is there a way to get all of my Facebook people to show up in my contact list so I can link them to the person I have stored in my iCloud contaste?

You've basically answered your own question, as follows:
You are not using iCloud, nor are you using iTunes on a computer.  These are the two vehicles Apple primarily uses for sync.
Therefore, as you said, any sync that occurs would be in the hands of Yahoo, your email provider.  So it's really a question for them.  I would guess syncing is likely, but that's entirely up to Yahoo.
