IOS 8 - mail and non-photo/video attachment

Hello, I had a really simple question regards iOS 8 (sorry if this has been answered before),
Is it yet possible to compose or reply to an email in the Mail App and insert a attachment that isn't a photo or video (e.g. word document or PDF) without leaving the mail app.
I have heard a bit about Document Picker, but not quick sure how to enable this function.
Thank in advance for any useful answers
Kind Regards
RE

II think I found the problem. It was Apple's new Photos app and the Photos Cloud. Enabling that cloud sucked up most of my meager bandwidth as it uploaded my photo library to the cloud. When I paused the upload the problem went away!  It took a week to upload my library. Unfortunately unless you avoid photos Cloud, there is no way around this issue. I don't think Apple thought this through completely before launching that app

  • Missing movies in project since iOS 8 and iCloud Photo Library

    Hi,
I've been to Europe this summer and created a movie in iMovie for iOS. That was when iOS 7.1.2 was the most current release. Today, I wanted to finish up my project. I'm currently running on iPad air, iOS 8.0.2, latest release of iMovie and iCloud Photo Library is enabled since day one. Opened the project and iMovie complained there was missing movies and offered me to search form them. It found 19 out of 40 or something. ***??? Now my movie timeline is filled with clip with exclamation mark and many transitions with pictures in them are missing too. I tryed to download clip that where in iCloud by tapping the Cloud icon but iMovie still cannot find them. How am I supposed to fix this now? My clips are there but iMovie cannot link to them... Apple, are you reading this forum?

I recreated this same question here so it wouldn't show like its solved: Missing movie files in my project since iOS 8 and iCloud Photo Library
    Hope we get an answer.

  • I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1 and my Photos, Videos, contacts, music, App data, etc. was deleted. How can I all the data back?

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

  • What is the easiest way to create and share photo/video gallery or slide show with family via web?

I am brand new to Lightroom (converted from Aperture) and made the conversation mainly because I thought that Adobe would bring many more options and because Apple has discontinued development of Aperture. Part of the reason I am asking this question is because there is so much information out there on this subject that it is overwhelming and actually is making it difficult to determine the best way to simply arrange my photos/videos into a slideshow and then to publish somewhat of a gallery or slideshow to show family and friends in other states.
I do not like publishing things to Facebook/etc.  Too public.  I just want a simple, efficient way to create a gallery with music and have a link I can send to my family (they all live in another state).
Any help narrowing this down for me would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    RJ Chesterton

an airport extreme base station would do the job, it has several ethernet ports for use by non-wireless devices, allows connecting a usb printer to share, and supports both pc and mac via wireless
config is via a dedicated set-up utility
however, you can always connect the printer to the mac or pc and share it that way, so having this support in the base station isn't essential
a much cheaper unit from netgear etc. (such as the netgear wgr614) would offer the other features, be far more compact, and allow configuration via web browser, which might be a factor if you need to give 'remote support'
i've got both airport and netgear wireless devices, imho for non-technical users the netgear is simpler than the airport due to the web browser configuration

  • How can one sync a) Albums to all my iOS devices and b) Photos

    1/It is evident to me that only My Photostream is automatically uploading/ syncing ( within the number of 1000) pics;
but Each iOs- device may have a different Photostream ( eg: if activated at different times, previously)
2/ since Photostream will then delete ( algorithms unknown) an unknown number of photos, to stay<1000,
    saving is necessary:
one would either save them in Photos/ . (?)
Someone here has suggested to take the content of Photostream and create a new Album ( eg: "From Photostream_ Date"),
and transfer ALL images thereto, from time to time (?)
    - it would be helpful if syncing is also  possible on the Album level ( via iTunes ??)
    - OR: are the Albums strictly collections on the respective iOs - device, (and the Mac ?), eventually
containing different Photos (!), ie : Albums are on the device - level (?)
->> Having said so, Can one sync on the Album level ?
    - OR somehow also on the Photo- level ?
3/ when is the best time, to save the My Photostream
Sorry , if too many Q's

    My Qs were more specific
It is easier to answer specific question, when I know whch options you are having on your computers. I.e. I wondered if you would be able to use Shared PhotoStreams  instead of My Photo Stream, but that would require MacOS X 10.9. at least, see: iCloud: Using and troubleshooting Shared Photo Streams
    ( pls see above): 1/ I was assuming that via iCloud only " my Photostream" is distributed onto all aktivated iOs- devices;
The Photostream "My Photo Stream" uses a buffer in iCloud: Each device will upload the most recent (last month)  photos saved to the Camera Roll, if Photo Stream is enabled and any photo you share to the stream. The buffer in iCloud will only keep the photos for a month - it is meant as a streaming buffer and not as a storage. And the stream you are seeing on your devices is fed from this buffer. Depending on when you activate Photo Stream on the devices they will show different selections of photos - it depends on what is currently in iCloud. With IOS 7.0.4 you could also stream to Shared Streams, and they will keep all photos in iCloud, only you would need to upgrade.
    - having said so: does iCloud then back up my Camera Roll ( Photos)  in toto ?
Your Photostream is generated automatically from all photos saved to your camera roll, so if you keep all photos in your camera roll and save any new photos from the Photo Stream to your camera roll, they will all be backed up, inclding any videos in your camera roll. This list describes in detail, what automatically will be backed up in iCloud over Wi-Fi:
See: iCloud: Backup and restore overview
2/ the 2nd Q posed was: Is there a mechanism to save/ backup on the Album level ( I guessed it can be done via iTunes), but also through iCloud (??)
That is exactly, why I asked for your system versions: if you could create Shared Streams, you could use 100 separate streams just like albums, and all would be stored in iCloud.
But there is no way to structure "My Photo Stream".
But the iCloud backup of your devices will include all application data, so albums you define in the Photos app will also be included, only not the photos synced to your device using iTunes, unless you save them to the camera roll.
    - Does one then HAVE TO make b/u via iTunes for EACH iOs device ( and of course the whole Library file
You can make your iCloud backup using Wi-Fi ( iCloud: Backup and restore overview), but you will have more control over it, when you create the backup using iTunes. And syncing using USB is faster than Wi-Fi.
4/ Does one have to save (B/U) as well via iTunes into the iPhoto library,
    as also via iCloud (?)
It is recommended: the iCloud backup of your IOS devices will enable you to restore your devices directly from iCloud, but a separate backup in iTunes will make it possible to restore a new replacement device from the backup, if your iPad, iPhone will be stolen, lost, or defective. And you can access the iTunes backup even when the network is down, or there is a problem with your iCloud account.
iPhoto library: When you automatically import the photoStream into your iPhoto library on your Mac, any backup of your iPhoto library will be a backup of your Photo Stream photos as well. I'd create the albums in iPhoto on your Mac.

A remark about Photostream : its deletion logic for pics, once 1000 is reached is intransparent
This is explaine d by the fact that "my Photo Stream" is not meant to be a storage, just a transient buffer. You have one month time to grab your photos from the stream, and then they will be removed, consider it to be a stream of photos that you are viewing from a narrow window. You are supposed to download the photos to your camera roll or to an event on your mac, as soon as you are seein it in the stream. After a month it will be gone.

  • Updated to iOS 5 and now photos sent with text message show as sent, but are not received to an iPhone that has not been updated.

Updated  to iOS 5 and tried sending a message with a phot to an iPhone that has not been updated. My message shows as sent, but neither the text or photo are received. Text alone works fine.

This is being caused by using the same Apple ID for iMessage.  To fix this you have two choices:
On all but one of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Note: you can still share the same ID for purchasing in Settings>iTunes & App Stores; or
On all of the phones go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and uncheck the email address(es) shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at".

  • Missing movie files in my project since iOS 8 and iCloud Photo Library

    Hello all,
I've been to New York at the start of 2014 and created an awesome movie project in iMovie for iOS. That was when iOS 7.1.2 was the most current release. Today, I wanted to finish up my project. I'm currently running iMovie 2.1.1 on iPad air 1 running iOS 8.1.2 and iCloud Photo Library is enabled since day one. I Opened the project today and iMovie told me there are missing movies in the project and offered me to search for them. It only found 2 out of 140 or something. Now my project timeline is filled with clip with exclamation marks and many transitions with pictures in them are missing too. I tried to download clips that are in iCloud by tapping the Cloud icon but iMovie still cannot find them. Ive also tried importing from iCloud drive, disabling iCloud photo library and syncing the movies from iPhoto using iTunes on my iMac but iMovie cannot link them to the project. I'd hate to see hours of editing work to go down the drain.
    Hope someone can help.
    RF

Ok, so sinc you turned iCloud photo library, that automatically delets all of your current photos. I found that out the hard way. I'm sorry to hear that your editing has gone to waste.   It is still odd that some media was saved though.

  • E Mailing and Uploading Photos

In using PSE4 to e-mail or upload photos must outlook be open at onset
or is there a default that will open outlook when pics sent.
If default can be set please advise of settings
    Thanks

Re email, you are limited by the file size that your server is able to send.
One way is to import your DV into an iMovie project. Then Share > Email the movie. That will send a compressed version. Small in size, but viewable. If your server is able to send very large sizes, or if it is a very small movie file size, you can File > Export your iMovie project to your desktop as a Full Quality Quicktime movie, and drag that into your email. The recipient should then be able to view it in full size.
The lower the frame rate, the more compressed your movie will be. If the default frame rate for the email function compresses your movie more than necessary, you can manually compress the movie at a higher frame rate. To do this: File > Export > Quicktime >Expert Settings > Share > Export Movie to Quicktime Movie > Options > Settings > then adjust the frame rate in the frame rate box > OK > Save. I noticed in there a box that said Prepare Movie for Internet Streaming. Possibly that might be what you need to upload to the internet at whatever settings that the internet website requires. I'm not sure about that because I have never uploaded to the internet. But there are others on this site who have done so and hopefully they will weigh in here.
    Hope this helps.

  • Updated to ios 6 and lost photos

i uptaded my ipod to ios 6 and i lost my pictures i dont have them backed up to icloud and i dont have a mac! what do i do!?

Not sure what having a mac has to do with anything.
You should be importing pics taken with your ipod to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before attempting any update or restore.
If you have failed to do this, then they are likely gone.  You can try restoring from backup.

  • Is there any way to have OS 10.5.8 mail leave a photo as attachment in the same orientation as it is in Preview?

Is there any way to have OS 10.5.8 mail leave an attached photo in the same orientation as it is in Preview?

First, to answer the question, I took the photo with a Canon camera but did not choose to use the Canon software to download the photo to my desktop.  I just did a select and drag to a new folder on my desktop from the sd card.  Canon has some software called Imagebrowser that may be used for this, but I took the simpler route.
I have not come across what you called the EXIF orientation before and have no idea how to access it.  What software is needed to determine the EXIF orientation?  Sorry I'm so far behind on this.  I usually used Photoshop and iPhoto to enhance photos.
By the way, I imported the photo into iPhoto then attached it to the email and the orientation didn't change.  It was the same in the attachment in Mail as it was in iPhoto.  I just don't want to have to go through that extra step every time I attach a photo.
Thanks for your help so far.  How do I get the EXIF orientation?

  • Export a short clip from FCE to mail and send as Email attachment

I have been trying to export short clips from FCE to mail. I have been getting as far as saving it as an attachment to an Email.
I have not been able to successfully deliver it to somebody. Is that a problem with my server or are my settings or the format I am using to send it incorrect ? What are the best and safest settings to choose from so the email goes through ?
I have send video clips directly from Quicktime files. Its working well and fast with no delivery problems. What am I doing wrong with FCE exports to mail ?
    G4 PowreBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    G4 PowreBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

well it may not be how your exportinging it. what you need to find out is how big of a file will you service provider let you send. your file may be over the limit, so all you need to do is compress it even smaller. when i send a clip i don't use the mail setting i just compress it my self as small as i can. my provider will only let me send up to 10Mb files only.

  • Mail problem receiving photos videos from Iphone

    Hi,
Writing from France so sorry for my poor english.
I have an issue since a few wekks to receive properly photos or videos sent from Iphones (ly wife's or mine).
In fact here is what I get in Mail window.
I cut the mail but it is quite long.
Maybe some parameters changes cause the problem.
I created a rule to move automatically all mails received in IMAP GMAIL folder "TO DO" I created.
I have absolutely no problem with standard mails but each time I receive a picture or video from my wife's iphone I get this result which is quite disturbing.
    Could you please help me?

Only photos taken after you enabled Photo Stream are added to Photo Stream, videos are not added at all, photos will only sync when you are connected by wifi.

  • Mail And Non-Breaking Spaces

I posted a topic some time ago and had zero (0) answer to it. Here it is once again.
Mail doesn't know what to do with non breaking spaces (alt-spacebar). It simply ignores them. The right encoding is there all right (I checked) but Mail acts exactly as if it were an ordinary space.
This forum treats those non breaking spaces correctly. TextEdit treats them correctly. But Mail doesn't and hasn't done for several year now.
This is a major irritant in French, where the rules of typography dictate such a space before all high punctuation (question mark and all that).
Does somebody know something about this, and why Mail behaves like such a bad guy?
    RTP, annoyed

    Sir:
I know perfectly well that (almost) nobody works for Apple here. This being said, before sending a bug report, it's common procedure to try and see if others have met the same difficulty. It would be quite nice indeed if you tried to reproduce what I observe and tell me that yes, it seems to be a bona fide bug, or no, you do not observe it and then I must see if something is wrong with my system instead of reporting a bug which is not a bug.
I invite you to take a look at my unanswered questions. You may ask yourself why so few people answer topics nowadays. If you look at my "answered" questions, see the number of them that I solved by myself because very few people chimed in. There is one reason for this, but I do not want to enter this debate once again.
This was kind of you to give me the proper references for bugs, even if I knew them already, which you could not know, as I have reported several bugs in the past.
In the mean time, I will continue to try to find a work around for this problem, and what is as important, how my posts are received in Entourage, Windows, or web-based email systems. I will then report my findings in this same topic.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post.

  • I downloaded iOS 8 and my photo stream disappeared. The weird thing is, when I went to post an Instagram picture, they were all there. So I can access them on Instagram but not from the photos app... Help?!

i have tried turning photo stream on and off and only a few come back

In iOS 8 the PhotoStream album is lumped into the recently added photos album. Delete a photo there and you will delete it from your PhotoStream.

  • IOS developement and non-Objective-C languages

Is it possible to do development for iOS without having to learn Objective-C? For example, can I use another tool or programming language, HTML, JAVA, to do development then port that to iOS devices?

PhoneGap is interesting. Basically, you write your App in HTML5, but with the addition of their toolkit which grants access to the other features of the phone (such as the photo catalog, contacts, etc.). The way it does this is that it basically has the HTML5 run in a UIWebView component (basically, a hosted browser), and then adds objects to the JavaScript interpreter by binding native components to the JavaScript (via WebScript).
So, the practical upshot is that you can write an app entirely in HTML5 and then PhoneGap will package it up into a native iPhone application with most of the features normally available to native apps and not to regular web-based apps. As an added bonus, PhoneGap will also package the same app for Android and RIM.
