IOS 8,Messages opens in landscape and won't shift to regular
For the past week or so, my wife and I have been having the same problem. Often when we open the Messages app it will open in landscape, even though the phone was being used in regular orientation. It won't reset to regular unless we quit the app and open it back up.
She is on iP 6 and I am on a iP 5s. It started for both of us around the same time, but it didn't happen right away after we upgraded to 8.
Thoughts? Suggestions? For some reason I'm not seeing the problem reported by others, but since we are both seeing it I can't imagine it's just us.
I'll divide it into few trys:
Try 1:
Since it appears LTE may be a culprit, try to do this: Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Enable LTE -> Disable LTE For Data & Phone.
Try 2:
If it still doesn't save your battery, try turning off Location Services (especially apps that has the permanent (purple) location service icon in the settings or on the top bar where there is the battery icon, there appears to be a slanted point) by going to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services and turn all the apps to either NEVER or While Using the App, and allow only the MOST USED navigation and location required apps to use location.
Try 3:
If those still don't help, turn off Bluetooth when you are not connected to any devices and shut down some apps by double clicking the home button and swipe the apps up or down to close them.
Generally speaking, these would solve the problem, otherwise, drain the battery to zero, press the power button a few times and recharge (sorta like a reset for the battery).

I have the same problem. I've been trying everything; opening ports, adjusting quicktime streaming preferences...everything discussed in other posts in this forum regarding error -8.
I really hate iChat...I think it's unbeliveble that Apple claims to be so better that Windows, but I never had problems wits MSN video.
But let's try to solve this irritating issue. What kind of messenging software do you have instaled/open when you try to use iChat?
I have Skype installed. When I deinstalled it, everything was working fine (so I thought). Next day the same BS all over again.
I could use skype to videochat, but I have an .mac account and I want to use iChat...the f&^%$*g .mac account is to expensive not to use...And do not forget that iChat AV quality is way better than Skype.
I really hope Apple comes with a solution soon.

I sent my friend a really long message of moons and spaces to **** her off for fun, and my messages froze, blacked out, and now they're blank and I can't click anything. I did it before on another day, and this never happened. Is this because the messages are still sending? Can I just backup and wipe my phone to fix it?
I need help ASAP I need my phone.Sounds as though the messages app has crashed. Follow the below steps:
1. Double tap the home button, locate the messages app in the screen that appears and swipe up to force close it (assuming you're running iOS 7 on your device).
2. If the above doesn't work, then press and hold both the lock (on/off) switch and the home button at the same time, until the display turns blank, and the apple logo appears. Once the logo appears, release the buttons and wait for your device to power back on.
If neither of the above work, you may well need to complete a restore on your phone via iTunes. -
Can someone help please. Since I updated my iPad to version 7.0.4 the screen opens in landscape but as soon as a select an activity it rotates to portrait and will no longer turn as I move the iPad. It is frustrating as I like to work in landscape. Any suggestions?
I do not know if this will work or not, but when my iphone (currently not behind bars if you know what i mean) goes into a recovery loop I use this trick.
first try to get your iphone onto to apple boot logo. you can do this by holding the power and home buttons at the same time. if you can do that you're in good shape, possibly.
Next try to power down the phone. since you can't do the "slide to power down" method you'll need to hold both buttons again. this may cause the phone to power down the up again, keep holding until completely powered down.
Once powered down press the power button and up volume button at the same time and hold them both until the apple logo comes up.
once the apple logo comes up then release the power button and continue to hold the volume button.
Your phone should boot up normally then be sure to go to itunes and backup.
I do not know for sure if that works on any iphone or just my iphone and the state it is in. but it sure is worth a shot.

Always in right-hand landscape and won't do revert to portrait or left-hand landscape
Has anyone had a problem with their i-phone 4 always going to landscape for every App, Safari, SMS, etc. and won't revert back to portrait or landscape for left-handers? I've tried to restart the phone, but it doesn't want to fix itself. I"ve finally got it to do portriate but if I place my phone on a flat surface it thinks I'm tilting it to landscape. HELP! ^_^.
Try this
Restart iPhone: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for phone to restart (no data will be lost).
Using the phone while charging doesn't create a problem.. I do it all the time -

The first thing you need to do is remove that software according to the developer's instructions. Never install it, or anything like it, again. Then see below.
If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. -
Help my iPhone 4 won't receive msg after I updated it!! Help
I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?

Movie won't open in Quicktime and won't save in iTunes
I have just finished editing a project and I am trying to share it to iTunes or Quicktime.
When I share it to "Apple Devices 720", it was automatically saved to the Final Cut Project file folder under "Shared Items", and inside I found the Quicktime file for the project. But it won't open in Quicktime, I am getting an error message that says:
"The document XXXXX (1280 x 720).m4v-TEMP” could not be opened. The movie's file format isn't recognized."
I tried to share it to iTunes, nothing works. I just want to be able to play it.
Ideally, I would like to be able to play the movie in iTunes on my iMac, and be able to sync it to iPod Touch.Actually, I solved the problem. follow these instrudctions:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
If you can't find com.apple.finalcutpro.plist delete any com.apple.finalcut..... files. -
How do you get iOS 6 back? No landscape, and drags!
You can not turn your phone anymore for landscape. I have a lot of videos I can not even see any more! Also the buttons have a bad delay. It was working great till I updated the software to iso7.

Considering your frustration, and since you still haven't answered my one question, I'm going to guess that you have an iPhone 4? An ad for cnn floats at the top of every web page I open in safari and won't go away
For some reason an ad for the CNN ios app is permanently stuck at the top of all web pages I open in safari. There is an x for closing the ad, but clicking the x does nothing. The ad also covers part of webpages which is extra annoying and occasionally I am pulled to the App Store for no reason.
ThanksI only have one video project that I ever published to iDisk. It didn't have any music or photo files attatched to it, just a few clips stitched together. I can play these clips right now in the Event Library (so I know the source files are on my computer), but strangely, under the Project Library, the project is not there. I'm almost certain that I didn't store the project on iDisk; I just completed the video and published it to iDisk (as a .mov file I think) for family to see. I've tried to figure out how to get iDisk to stop looking for this project to no avail.
I don't know if others have experienced this, but if I click on any project and on the menu bar select Share --> Remove From --> Media Browser... it lists iPod, iPhone, iPad, tv, Computer and MobileMe. Why would MobileMe be an option here? This is the case for any video project I select. Didn't iLife '11 and/or OSX 10.8 remove all mention of MobileMe? I wonder if this is part of the problem too.
Edit: I just removed every project I have from the Media Browser. Still no luck. -
Firefox won't open any more and won't reinstall
My Firefox browser suddenly won't open at all. I tried to reinstall but when I clicked the 'run' button, all information disappeared but nothing happened. I went to my 'downloads' to try again but the same thing happened. It will not reinstall. I have an HP Envy laptop with windows 8.

Urgent: Open Directory stopped and won't restart
I got into work this morning and restarted the server. Now no one can connect to it. The Open Directory service has stopped and there is no button visible to restart it.
OD log says: Network transition occurred. Shutting down DirectoryService...
Any ideas? Monday morning and everyone's going to be baying for blood!
