IOS 8 Messages stops deleting text

In iOS Messas, there is the feature where you can tap and hold a message and it comes up with Copy More. Tap More and in the top left you get Delete All or you can tap the little circle on the left side of each message you want to delete, then tap the trash can in the bottom left to delete selected messages. I like to keep the list of names I message most in Messages, that way I don't have to start a new message and find the address of the person I want to message. So,  I periodically go through and delete conversations in Messages. Problem, I can delete 2-3 conversations before the Copy More stops coming up. To fix this I have to reboot Messages. It becomes annoying when there are 6-8 people I'm clearing out conversations from. I'm guessing this is an under utilized feature of Messages because I have yet to find anyone talking about this not working. Apple has yet to fix the bug. Any suggestions for a fix would be helpful.

Try deleting Messages from Notification screen.  Turn off all options in Message settings.  Restart your phone.  Go back into settings and turn badge alert back on, Sounds and turn back on the sound you use for Message alerts.

Hi All - I sent an sms using my iphone 5 - It is PAYG and had no money in it. (stupidly)
It tried to send as an SMS but gave the 'green button reject message'.(no money)
Step 2 in this stupidity - the phone keeps trying to send the deleted text via SMS and wont stop notifying me of this. Totally ruining the functionallity of my phone, and more so totally annoying. All I want to do is stop the constant re-trying of sending the deleted SMS.
    Any ideas?
    Many Thanks!

Hi, many thanks for your help - Pressing and holding sleep/reset hasn't worked, the msg is still continually reporting it is failing to send. I can restore to a previous version however I'll lose my paid apps. Is there any way to work around this. I'm only concerned about one app - Epocam HD which I purchased last month. My last backup on PC is 4 March 13 - before I bought the paid app - Itunes advises me I'll have to re-pay to get my apps (app) back. Even though it advises that icloud backed up this morning at 1:30 am (which although it is before the text, I cannot manually select this restore).
    What a mess!

  • IPhone 4S, the last two versions of IOS: I receive an text, reply, get error message instructing me to use valid 10 digit number. Only this person. I've deleted and re-entered her contact info - still cant send txt. What's up?

Seems I entered question in subject field? Here's the question:
iPhone 4S, the last two versions of IOS: I receive a text, in iMessage, reply, get error message instructing me to use valid 10 digit number. Only this person. I've deleted and re-entered her contact info - still cant send txt. What's up? ATT says they've never seen this. I have previously texted successfully with this person and she's changed nothing on her end.

The fix for this problem is easy and is set out here: http://edctips.blogspot.com/2014/09/fixing-iphone-texting-problem.html

  • IOS 7 will not let me delete text messages

Hey guys so I having a problem delete text from my Iphone 5 which has IOS 7.0.2 on it. I would like to be able to delete full conversations from my messages however when I do it does not delete them or if it does when I click on another set of messages from another contact it takes a while for it to come up and when it does it just displays the last text or imessage from that conversation. I have tried the the reset but not the restore just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing this problem or had any feedback about it.
The other issue I am experiencing is with spell check, it shows me the red line when I miss spell a word but as soon as I type the next word the redline disappears. Is this normal or is there a way to make it where the red line will stay there because I normally type out my whole message and then go back and fix the misspelled words.
Any help on one or both of these issues would be gratefully appreciated thanks.

Alright guys I think I found a way to do it, just takes some time. If you open up one of your conversations and then hold your finger down on any of the messages you will see the option, click on that. Then you will see at the top left corner that says delete all and you should be able to clear out a whole conversation. If will take a little time for them to open up so just be patient with it.

  • Can you still swipe to delete text messages in IOS 7.1

I would like to swipe to delete text messages can this still be done in IOS 7.1. It does not seem to work for me and I tried swiping left and right. Thanks

That's gone in IOS 7, see my post above on how to delete.

  • How do i stop my iphne 5s from deleting text messages and closing out of apps when i open them?

My phone keeps deleting text messages before I can even read them or they don't come through at all.  My phone also closes out of apps as soon as I click on them. does anyone know what I can do to fix these problems?

I have tried that and it doesn't work for me. I can set everything up, but then it won't get mail. At all.. Says server isn't responding. My issue with imap is that it won't create copies like POP does. It downloads directly from the server. So whoever is reading my email (my husband) on his phone, if he deletes it, then it's deleted from my phone, or email client as well. It's a sticky business. Any suggestions?
IMAP is not good for a shared email account for this very reason (but is great for a single reader who uses many devices for access). The best suggestion I have is to create separate email accounts, if possible. Otherwise, you'll both really have to be conscientious about not deleting emails.

  • IOS 8 - Deleted Text Messages

So, in the past as far as I can remember, if you delete the last message someone sent you, the whole text message thread will not be at the top of your Messages homepage, am I correct?
Now, If I delete a few texts someone sent me (but not the whole thread or conversation, if you will), the thread sits on top of my Messages screen but without the recent texts, making it rather difficult to deny deleting texts!
ANY SOLUTIONS? IS THIS A BUG?

I think I already answered this in the message to which you replied but I'll try again:
    0. I don't know how to prevent the trash can from disappearing from time to time.  To restore it:
    1. Go to the home screen
    2. Double tap the butron in the bottom of your phone to open the task manager.
    3.  Find the Messages wjndow and icon. Scroll the task manager sideways if necessary. Tap and hold the Messages window in the task manager and slide upwards toward the top of the screen to close it.
    4. Tap the first window in the task manager  to return to the home screen.
5  Tap the messages app to re-open it.
    6.  Tap the thread from which you want to selectively delete individual texts.
    7. Press and hold one of the texts you want to delete. A dialogue will ask "Copy More"; select More.
    8. The text you selected should be flagged for deletion and the trash can should now be restored to the bottom of your screen.
    9. Tap the radio buttons in front of any other texts in the thread you want to delete, if any
    10. Tap the trash can to delete the selected messages.
    Notes:
    * This doesn't fix the problem. Apple has to do that with an upgrade. But it does restore functionality with out having to reboot your phone.
    * I only lose the trash can occasionally, maybe once a week or a little more often
    * Only steps 2-4 above are additions to what one would normally do to selectively delete texts in a given thread.
    * To delete a whole thread (a group of texts between you and one or more other people) from the list screen, just swipe to the left and tap Delete or tap Edit, radio button(s), Delete.

  • Text won't stop deleting, delete key appears to get "stuck"

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic, I have never used the support forums for any of the multitude of problems I have had with my Mac, but this one is severe and odd enough that I couldn't even find anyone else discussing it (although I'm sure someone is, but I tried many search key combinations on Google and only found unrelated things), so I decided to at least get it documented.
I have had an issue that has happened at least 3 times I can remember (I am fairly certain it has happened more, closer to 7-8, those are just the times I am 100% confident about), although very spaced apart and infrequent, where my delete/backspace key seems to get "stuck". However, at least one time I can verify that I never even hit the key. Whatever text I currently have open immediately starts deleting at lightspeed, and I can do nothing to stop it. None of the other keys on my keyboard work, and though my mouse works, if I click somewhere else, it starts deleting the text there. When I force it to go to another window where there isn't an open text box, I get the general Mac error sound, and it repeats non-stop, and faster than I've ever heard it. I have to do a hard shut-down, although once it led to a kernal panic. When I have stopped whatever is happening before it panics though, when I restart, I don't receive any kind of error message, nor the message about OS X not having been shut down properly.
Every single time it has happened when I was typing something that couldn't be saved, like a message on a forum, a private message on a site or an IM chat window. Sometimes I lost a half hour's worth of work or more.
The first time it happened, I honestly thought someone had managed to hack into my computer, but another time I was using a physical modem and Airport was turned off, and when I ripped out the cord, it didn't stop.
I have a MacBook Pro from 2007, running the most recent version of Tiger. I haven't had the money to upgrade. All security updates are up-to-date, with one exception: I have not upgraded to the most recent version of iTunes.
Honestly, I currently am having and have been having a bunch of other severe issues with my Mac, so troubleshooting will be quite difficult as it's not at all impossible it's a result of one of my other problems. I also currently am dealing with some health problems that make me unable to try to find the root of the problem, specifically I have a problem with my hand and wrist that makes typing very difficult.
If someone does recognize this issue and already knows why it might be happening, I'd appreciate the help. I'd also appreciate anyone letting me know how I can prevent it OR what to do when it begins and how to stop it. But I probably will be unable to go through a typical troubleshooting rundown.
As I said, I just wanted this documented, and I also would like to know if anyone else has had this problem. I have never experienced an issue like this with any of my past computers, including Macs and PCs. I do know however that the key is NOT physically getting stuck - as in getting lodged down and continuing to be pressed. There is at least 1 time I can verify I never even hit the key (I wasn't typing anything at the time). I am fairly sure the problem is entirely unrelated to the actual delete key itself.
I'll describe the symptoms one more time:
At a random time, with no discernible warning, text contained in whatever text box I have open begins deleting itself. Several paragraphs disappear in a matter of seconds.
Pressing escape or any other key on the keyboard does nothing. If I click to another area in the text, it will immediately begin deleting wherever I have placed the cursor. If I go to another window with text that can be edited, it begins deleting there. It does not delete in more than one place simultaneously.
If I bring another window without any kind of "deletable" text to the front, one of the general Mac error sounds (I'm not sure which one it is) starts happening and repeats without stopping at a rate that could induce a seizure. To stop it all, the only thing I have found can be done is a hard shut-down. Another time it continued to end in a kernal panic. I wish I had the details of the error, but it was so long ago and I have no idea which panic is the right one in the logs.
I have no way of knowing what programs were running at the time, as obviously that's not something I'm able to pay attention to when it happens, and it has happened so randomly and infrequently it's nothing I've been able to document. Since I have to restart to make it stop, I've then lost that info and I have no time to try to write it down or something beforehand.
I have not had any similar issues that I know of (for instance, for the "g" key keeps repeating and won't stop typing "g's") and I've never experienced this on any past computer.
Thanks for anyone who can help!
If you aren't able to offer advice but have had this issue yourself, PLEASE let me know. I can't seem to find anyone who has experienced this particular problem.

"Cleaning the keyboard is the first step in troubleshooting sticky/stuck keys."
Okay, I guess I misunderstood, although I am still confused. You're saying that since the other user did an extensive clean of their keyboard and this did not solve the problem, it is "most likely" a hardware problem, correct? Wouldn't a thorough cleaning without any results show that it's probably not physically related to the keyboard?
"The "delete" key may be defective or the cover you are using somehow is making the key stick. If you have ruled out the latter and everything else, your only other alternative is to take the MBP to your local Apple Store or AASP. The staff will check out your keyboard (free) to confirm if you are having a hardware problem. If you have AppleCare or ProCare, the repairs will be free. If not.................."
Well, I had just said in my most recent post that it has now happened with other keys, and in my initial post that it happened at times when my hands were nowhere near the keyboard. It is not a defective delete key and the cover is not making the keys stick - it doesn't adhere to them and does not have any sticky substance on it of any kind. I am an experienced computer user, and I know my computer very well. While I am not a psychic that can always know what is causing a problem, I am able to discern with much accuracy what is NOT causing it.
Also, I have significant health issues so getting to an Apple store would be a huge challenge for me. And although I have AppleCare any repairs won't be free. Due to some small physical damage my laptop obtained a few years ago, I have been completely refused almost all service that I paid over $300 for, even though the damage is completely superficial. After fighting this, I was told they WOULD repair my computer, however, they would also repair the physical damage despite my insisting NOT to; I had no choice in the matter and the cost would be a minimum of $1,500 (I also would not be informed the exact price until after and my credit card would be charged without my knowledge - I had to give them my credit card number and sign away their right to make any charges and when I requested being contacted before they charged me for the repairs I didn't want done, I was told they did not do that). My family is struggling to pay for my $5 medications.
When my logic board died (that same issue that affected thousands of computer users), I had to print out Apple's report from their site, which stated that they would replace and repair them free of charge to ANY Mac owner with a computer that met certain qualifications (which mine did). When it happened, completely out of nowhere, I knew immediately that was the problem, yet still had to go through the insulting and idiotic "Is your computer plugged in?" list of things and a customer WITH AppleCare was being refused a service they'd offered to people WITHOUT AppleCare, for a known manufacturing defect that has occurred widely in nearly every brand of computer made.

  • How do I stop getting text messages on my macbook air

How do I stop getting text messages on my MacBook Air?

    Hi,
The Mac has an App that is called Messages and one of the accounts in it is the iMessages one that can sync with the iOS one.
Open the Messages app and go to the Preferences (In the drop down Menu in the Apps name in the Menu Bar)
In the Preferences select the Accounts tab.
Select the iMessages account  if it is not selected.
Untick the iPhone Number to stop iMessages sent to your iPhone Number appearing on your Mac.
Also go to the General section of the Preferences.
There is an items that reads "When I quit, set the Status to Off Line"  select this.
This will stop any incoming Messages (from any source that Messages can join) from launching to app when you have not started it but your Computer is On.
You may also want to go to your iPhone Settings and remove the Apple ID.

I am using an early 2008 MacBook Pro and am having issues with it deleting text on its own (in word, emails, etc.). As I am typing it all of a sudden starts deleting and I can't stop it. This happened once before and it was due to a buldging battery pressing on the track pad. I checked the battery and it appears to be fine. What can I do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Trouble deleting text messages

Hi!  When I delete old text messages, all my other texts "freeze up" and I don't receive any new texts.  I have to restart my phone.  After the restart, I receive any new texts and all my "deleted" texts are back.  I went to the AT & T store, I was told I had to do something in iTunes, but they were basically no help at all.
Can someone please, please help me!  Thank you!!

    Howdy danired2006,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue with the Messages app on your iPhone which wasn’t resolved by restarting the device. If you haven’t already, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as shown in the article linked below.

  • How can i get back a deleted text message

how can i get back a very important text message i deleted by mistake.my phone is iphone 3g
    thank you

I'm going to post what I found via Google. As I understand, it works for some, not for others, so I'm not vouching for this, so do it at your own risk:
FACT: SMS messages remain on the iPhone after deletion. When “deleted” on the iPhone, they are technically hidden and marked for deletion. Text messages are then deleted only after sync with iTunes.
In order to recover a deleted text message or messages, run through the following 4 easy steps:
    STEP 1:
Make sure iTunes doesn’t automatically sync with iPhone when connected.
    STEP 2:
Connect your iPhone to iTunes and Back up by selecting Preferences > Backup from iTunes, or right-click on your iPhone and choose back up.
    STEP 3:
Restore your iPhone by selecting Restore under Preferences. Note that restoring the iPhone will restore the previous iPhone firmware. Your iPhone will be completely erased after the new firmware is installed. So make sure your back up is good!
    STEP 4:
The final step will be to restore your iPhone from the back up you created on step 2. This will allow you to restore any data you have backed up, including the “deleted” text messages.
    That’s it!
It’s important to distinguish between iPhone data restore and iPhone firmware restore.
iPhone data restore allows you to restore data you have already backup on iTunes. This is your photos, video, text messages…etc.
iPhone firmware restore is pretty much like a restore to factory switch. This will restore your iPhone to the previous firmware or system and no user data. This option is often recommended if your suspect that your iPhone OS or iOS is unstable.

  • How do I stop my text messages from my iPhone from going to my iPad. I am being charged twice from my phone company?

My iPhone receives text messages and they go to my iPad and since I pay for each text message. I want to be able to stop this from happening,  how do I do this?????

If you are sending iMessages (blue bubbles in the Messages App), and use the same Apple ID on both the iPhone and the iPad messages will get sent to both devices. Its an iMessage feature to sync messages across devices.
iMessages are not SMS, and as such do not use your text messaging allowance.
    https://www.apple.com/ios/messages/
Whether you use a phone number or an email if you are registered with iMessage and the person you are messaging is also, your messages will get sent through iMessage rather than SMS. Your iPad is able to receive iMessages, and you'll have the conversation on both devices.  This is a good feature to have if you start the conversation on your Phone but later decide its easier to do it on your iPad or Mac.
iMessages only work between Apple devices.

  • Cant delete text messages from my iphone 4s

i have not been able to delete text message since the new update ios 8.3.
i go to the message screen select person i want to delete. and press the red delete button. but when i turn my phone
off and turn in it back on. the message appears again.

Hi maryamss, the iPhone never really deletes things it just hides it from the system sounds like something has gone askew. Have you tried a hard restart? Hold the Home and Power buttons down together, keep them held until the phone shuts of and you then see the apple symbol may take up to 20 seconds. It is then safe to release the buttons. Failing this restoring your phone with iTunes should sort it out.

  • My phone has stopped sending text messages to one specific number. It says it sends, but nothing arrives. Any tips?

My 3G iPhone has stopped sending text messages to one specific number. It says its sent but it does not arrive. Any ideas?

Are you seeing this problem when sending a SMS, MMS or iMessage? Does it go away if you disable MMS or iMessage in Settings > Messages?
Make sure the phone number that you aren't able to send texts to has an area code.
If that doesn't help, take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
