IOS 8: my photo stream and camera roll got messed up

I installed IOS 8 this morning and have not been able to see my photos as they were in IOS 7 since. Currently I can see 128 photos in my "collections" tab for the year 2014 dating back to August 31st. These same photos appear in my "recently added" section though they aren't in any order they're jumbled around!
What I've tried/things to know
Taking the advice from another thread I restarted my iPhone 5s while my photo stream in iCloud settings on and off again.
Before restarting I had 0 photos in my photos app. After following the advice I watched as 128 photos appeared in the recently added and collections tab.
While I had IOS 7 I was able to see many "years" in the photos not just 2014. I also had 1000 photos in my photo stream and stuff in the camera roll
I called Apple's help line and customer service said to see the rest of my photos I would have to download them off my computer where I have them backed up
I'm wondering:
How can I see more than 128 photos (from the past) on my iPhone? It seems like a regression in technology if I used to be able to see 1000.
Are my photos in the "recently added" section supposed to be in a random order? It's hard to view them this way.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer!

This are probably the photos from My Photo Stream ,that are currently stored in iCloud. iCloud will keep the the photos added during the last month, and then they may be removed to make space for newer photos. Your iPhone may be storing up to 1000 photos, but when you reset the Photo Stream, these will be deleted. When you activate Photo Stream again, you will now see what is currently in iCloud, and that will be now the photos from September, see:   iCloud: My Photo Stream troubleshooting

Have these 1000 photos been taken on your iPhone or synced from your Mac, or transferred by Photo Stream? If they have been synced, you need to sync again with your Mac, and if it has been the Photo Stream, upload them again, because they are  no longer in iCloud.
Did you by any chance enable the iCloud PhotoLibrary in the Photos&Camera settings, if it is available on your device?  If yes, that would explain why your synced photos have been removed. If not, don't enable t, or you will no longer be able to sync the photos with iTunes.

  • How do I delete a picture on both Photo Stream and Camera Roll?

I would like to keep my iPhone4 Photo Stream and Camera Roll Albums free of crappy photo's. I would also like to reduce my time managing these two albums. Is there a way to delete a photo on Camera Roll and have the same photo automatically deleted from my Photo Stream at the same time?
I use iPhone4 with iOS 5.1.1, OSX 10.6.8 and AppleTV software version 5.1

Copies of Photo Stream photos you have saved to your Camera Roll on an iOS device or imported into events in your iPhoto or Aperture library, and photos you have copied into a folder on your PC that's not part of My Photo Stream, will not be deleted when you delete photos from Photo Stream.

  • Lost pics, photo stream and camera roll?

LLost pics, photo stream and camera roll after 8.0.2 download. What to do?

    Hey Monicafromeaton town,
Thanks for the question. The following resource provides some great information any questions you might have about Photos after updating to iOS 8:

Where can I find the Camera Roll?
The Photos app in iOS 8 doesn't separate photos and videos based on how they were added to your device. Instead of a Camera Roll, your photos and videos (even ones that you didn't take with or save to your device) are organized by date in Photos.
Where can I find the My Photo Stream album?
In iOS 8, there's no longer a separate My Photo Stream album. Instead, photos that were in the My Photo Stream album are now in the Recently Added album.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I have so many pictures on my photo stream and camera roll. I synced them to my computer, the ones on my photo stream. can I delete the pictures in my camera roll? and still have the pictures on my computer? or do i have to save them from icloud folder to

Hi, i am an idiot when it comes to this. I have so many pictures on my photo stream and camera roll. i cant even take anymore pictures or even update to ios7. I synced my pictures to my PC, i think. can i know delete my camera roll or will my pictures disappear from my computer? im so confused!!

If you delete photo stream photos from your phone they will be deleted from the my photo stream album on your PC.  Before doing that, be sure to copy or move them to a different folder on your computer.
Deleting camera roll photos won't delete anything from your computer.  If you import them to your computer using your usb cable as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083, you will get an option to delete them from your phone after they are imported.

  • HT4847 Photo stream and Camera Roll

Is there a way to delete photos from the photo stream without deleting all the photos OR is there a way to send photos from photo stream to my camera roll?

Deleting a photo from your photo stream album will delete it from your photo stream and all devices connected to your photo stream.  However, you can save photo stream photos to your camera roll first by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tapping the photos, tapping Share, then tapping Save to Camera Roll.

  • Photo stream and camera roll...HELP!!

I realise to many that I will seem very stupid but the whole concept of iCloud and photo pushing is confusing me. Please can someone confirm/correct/answer/help me...?
I have an iPhone 4s and a windows PC
    1. After installing iCloud on my iPhone and PC, any pictures I now take on my phone will be on the camera roll as usual and on the photo stream for 30 days/max 1000 pics
    2. I can't push my previous camera roll photos to my PC via iCloud
3.I wanted to put some recent holiday pics on to my iPhone in their own folder. Photos were copied and pasted into the PC upload folder and then into photostream which i then copied and placed into the newly created holiday folder. However, these uploaded PC pics are on my camera roll aswell- now I have 3 copies of each photo on my phone!! Will all my uploaded photos go to camera roll aswell as photo stream?!- Can I stop this from happening again? Where is best to delete them from?!- surely if I delete from the camera roll (my preference) they will automatically be deleted from the new created folder too?
    4. Is there a way of turning off photo stream folder and just turning it on as and when i want to sync or will that create/confuse the problem?
5.Lots of people have been mentioning iPhoto- what is this? Is it for MAC users only?
    Thanks :/

  • Moving photos from photo stream and camera roll into a photo library?

Can I move photos from camera roll or photo stream album to an album I created?

No.  Camera roll and photo stream photos are stored separately and must be deleted separately.

  • TS1503 If I turn off photo stream on my I phone 5 will I loose the pictures in photo stream and  camera roll?

I have duplicate pictures in my camera roll and photo stream. If I turn off photo stream will I loose pictures in both areas?

If you turn off Photo Stream, all photos in Photo Stream only, will be removed from your device.

  • What is the difference between photo stream and camera roll?

And...what is iPhoto?  Confused by all of the terminology

    Photo Stream is a feature of iCloud;
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html
The Camera Roll is an album on the iPad with any photos that you transfer from a camera or memory card using the Camera Connection Kit to the iPad or any screen shots that you take with the iPad or any photos that you take with the cameras on an iPad 2, as opposed to any albums that you have synced to the iPad from your computer using the iTunes app. The Camera Roll comes and goes as needed. If you have no photos that would go into the Camera Rol, it disappears, and returns when it is needed.
    iPhoto is an Apple photo app for the Mac computer. It is part of the iLife suite of Mac apps;

  • HT204053 i am missing pictures on my ipad 2.  i have checked photo stream and camera roll.  actually they were there earlier but now gone.  i also use dropbox as well, and can't find them there either!  Can someone help me figure this out?

Missing photos from camera roll and photo stream.  i also have been using dropbox.  Will someone tell me how to find them?  they were there yesterday, and i did not delete any?

Unless someone physically deleted those, you describing practically impossible situation. Even deleting from camera roll would delete from photostream possibly, but not if you manually put those in dropbox and they had time to upload.

  • Why do i see multiple copies of same photos, photo stream and camera roll

Photos on my wife's iPhone 5S take up a lot of space ( iCloud memory full, can't update phone).  It How do I trim it down?  I moved a lot of her shots to my macbook, then deleted most of them (except the ones she wanted available) but it didn't seem to help.

Is your question about multiple copies of photos or about trimming down the amount of memory your photos are taking up?
Photo Stream only takes up a small amount of storage since it is primarily housed in iCloud.
Camera Roll photos can be imported to a computer and deleted from the device.
When you say multiple copies, do you mean the same photos in Camera Roll and Photo Stream? If so, then you need to understand that every photo you take on your device will be seen in both the Camera Roll and in Photo Stream. They serve two different purposes. The Camera Roll is where your actual photos go and are stored on your device. These are the photos you import to your computer.
Photo Stream is where photos taken from any device signed onto the same iCloud account and that have Photo Stream turned on all go. That way, you can see photos on your iPhone that you took on your iPad and vice versa. But again, these photos are stored in iCloud and take up very little memory on your device.

Anyone there that can help me with photos and iCloud storage?

Thanks.  I remembered to do a search after I created that post, found the above thread you referenced (and others), and then tried to go back and delete my post but wasn't able to.  Is it not possible to delete one's own posts here?
