IOS 8 on iPhone 5 issue - annoying border

I just confirmed this with a colleague who have just updated to iOS 8. We both use iPhone 5. We noticed that when using an app with a white background (i.e. Mail, Message, Note), there is an obvious border around the iPhone 5 retina display.
This is not an issue before the update, confirmed this with another iPhone 5 using 7.1.2.
Anybody else having this issue?

I have the exact same issue, I already contacted Apple support and I am waiting for a response. If I take a screenshot, the border is not in the picture, so it is clearly a display issue.

LONG STORY SHORT: I just want to be able to manage my music manually. Connect my iPhone to my macbook, drag the music from my library to the iPhone. Click a song and press delete if I no longer want it. Have the songs I deleted ACTUALLY GO AWAY instead of just the name turning grey. I don't understand why this is so complicated and confusing? Can someone please just tell me how to do that? The way I have always managed my iPods.
Basically I didn't mind the automatic system being activated against my will for a long time, until recently I've started to run out of space. I was reading online and trying all type of things and some people were suggesting just manually getting rid of the songs I didn't want on my phone, but that is just a nightmare, are you kidding me? So one of the other things I read was managing your music manually (which was what I wanted to begin with) so when I went to do it iTunes was like blah blah blah if you do this you will delete all the music on your phone. I thought, that's fine because I can just drag it back onto it and this time it'll only be the music I want. NOT so simple, it is not working that way at all, first of all there is no "manually manage music" option anymore, the only options I see in the music tab are:

* Entire music library
* Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres
- Include music videos
- Include voice memos
- Automatically fill free space with songs
If the initial Sync Music thing is unselected there is no other option? There used to be an option to manually manage files. I know I am just repeating the same thing over and over again but I'm just so frustrated. I just manually added a song, but then when I go delete it, it won't let me. It's trapped in there again. jesus christ

Recovery mode doesn't mean that all your data is already lost. You only lose your data if you restore it.
When you plug the phone is into iTunes hold down the home button. iTunes may then give you the option JUST to update the software first. This should not get rid of any data.
However, if iTunes is only giving you the option to RESTORE and update, then you will lose your data I'm afraid.

You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off

Update: my phone's connecting to the WiFi again. I don't know what did the trick. I did nothing since reinstalling the software. It hadn't worked then, it is now. I tried connecting to my dad's phone's hotspot( he uses a Moto G), and it worked. I then tried connecting to the WiFi at a friend's house, and when I came back home, my phone was able to connect to my WiFi! Is it of any significance that my friend's router doesn't require a password? My issue has been resolved( for now; I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched). For anyone facing a similar issue, I suggest you try everything I did:
1. Turn your router off for a minimum of 30 seconds, turn it back on and try connecting.
2. Click on the WiFi network you are connected to, scroll to the bottom, tap "Renew Lease".
3. Do a soft and hard reset.
4. Reset network settings.
5. Back your data up, erase all content from settings menu, restore from backup.
6. Reinstall your software( put it in recovery mode).
I am not sure which of the above worked for me. Make sure you try everything. If none of the above works, take it to a genius bar or an authorised service provider. Good luck! :)

It seems that people experience slow wifi on iphone with IOS 6 under slightly different circumstances.
Some have slow/choppy video streaming, some have problems with large dropbox files, some with app store and some with podcasts.

Me personally, I have download speed when on wifi.
But only when downloading podcasts...
Running 6.0.1 or 6.1 on iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
On WIFI I can download a 45 mb app from the appstore in less than a minute. I can stream Youtube and Netflix with no problems. Internet browsing - no problems.
But downloading podcasts with Instacast 3, Downcast or the Apple Podcast app happens at a rate of 20-80 kb/s when on WIFI. As soon as I switch to 3g ( 4g/LTE is not yet available from my local provider) my download speed goes to between 300kb/s and 2 mb/s.
Anyone else have this problem?

Can't make or receive any calls. When making a call, you see the thing dialing but no tone, it rings at he other end however. When somebody trying to call me, it does not ring at my end. If you try to end the call, the phone page will just freeze, when you exit the phone page to go try the MP3 player for example, and come back, the phone is still trying to end the previous call. I tried resetting the network settings, turn the phone off and on , no difference at all. It's easter Sunday, everything is closed here in Montreal.

Iphone 6&6+/iOS 8.x "No Service" issues

I did see few threads on the forum about older iOS devices (old iphones, ipads) and newer iPhones having this cellular network service drop issue but there isn't any real solution to resolve these on any of them.
I have the same problem with my new iPhone 6 (setup by restoring a backup from my old iPhone 5s) and my sis's new iPhone 6+ (new setup) both running iOS 8.x.

I am regretting my upgrade to 6 and buying an addition 6+ for full price. Such a waste of time and money. I am still within the 14 day period. I am contemplating return of these unless Apple acknowledges the problem and clarifies if its an OS issue and not a hardware issue.

yes I was low on battery when I took that picture, here is another picture that shows the issue has nothing to do with the battery juice. My carrier is AT&T.

GarageBand 1.x If you are upgrading it using iTunes on a Mac or PC, you can restore the original collection of instruments and sounds. There is no need to buy this collection. Press "You've already purchased?" When displayed on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
this puts on the AppStore but I have tried to restore as I wrote above, and does not work. There is nothing to restore.

I've been having the same problem. However, I believe my problem is due to the 3G issues I've been having. I don't have internet access even when the 3G symbol appears, so probably my iphone keeps trying to connect to the network and has its battery drained! Have you been having the same issue?

I updated to iOS 8 on iPhone 5s and now iMessage will not verify my email. It has said "Verifyng" since yesterday, but has not sent a verification email. I checked my iCloud settings for that email address and it shows "pending".

I can still send/ receive texts from my phone number, just not from the email address.
In my iCloud settings under Contact Information for that email address and it shows "pending". When I select "Resend Verification Email" I get "Cannot Connect to iCloud".

I'm having the same problems. Can't even find out if Apple is working on it. Tried to downgrade but is not supported by apple so error 3194 comes up which is verifying with the apple web site. Which then stops everything. I understand you can modify the "hosts" file to by pass the issue, but hate doing that as it gets involved. May try it if I can't get any satisfaction from apple.

IPhone syncing issues after iTunes upgrade

I just upgraded to iTunes 8.1.1 for Mac. During the install I got a kernel panic and had to restart. iTunes seems to be installed fine. When I connect my iPhone I get messages like "some content will not be copied to the iPhone as this computer is not authorized" or such like. So now several apps, videos and music has been wiped from the iPhone.
I tried authorizing the computer but I just get "This computer is already authorized".
there does not seem to be any particular link between the erased content. Some was purchased on the Mac and some on the iPhone, all from the iTunes store. Before I updated iTunes everything synced fine.
I can d/l the apps again direct to the iPhone but I can't find a way to get the missing music and videos back on the iPhone. Very annoying.
Would re-installing iTunes help?
Any ideas?

Hi Chris,
Try highlighting the one of the songs that will not sync in iTunes> cilck File> Get Info, check the account name and verifying you are authorizing the computer with correct account.
If the issue persists, try removing the SC Info folder as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
If you still see the issue after removing the SC Info folder, try reinstalling iTunes as shown here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224

I have already tried the resetting with power swich and home button and plugging into computer but it says the "iPhone software update server cannot be contacted." I am locked out of my phone. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue and get the phone working again. I will add that I am now trying to restore it on a different computer with a lower version of itunes, but the computer that it initially happened on had the updated itunes and gave me the same result ... nothing. Thanks for your help in advance.

Try going to recovery mode as described here. You may have to try this more than once to succeed.
Use the original iTunes that the iPhone synced with.
