IOS 8 photo edit loses location information

I noticed that whenever I edit a photo with the built-in photo editor, the location information of the edited photo is gone. It also happens when a filter is selected on the camera before the photo is shot.
For me this means that the photo editing capability of iOS is pretty much useless at this time.
Anybody else noticed this bug?

My iPhone 5s runs the latest iOS 8.1 and I have no problem of editing photos within the Photos app. Actually, after click Done to confirm the action, it saves the change right away, even without your notice. The suggestions I could give you are: first, update your iPhone to the latest version - iOS 8.1.0; second, restore your iPhone (backup your iPhone to iTunes or iCloud> tap Settings > General > Reset > Eraser all content and settings> set up as a new iPhone > restore from the iCloud backup file or connect to computer to restore from an iTunes backup file). Good luck!

  • IOS 7 - Photo Moments Incorrect Location Information

  • IOS 5 photo edits not really saved?

I cropped and applied auto-enhance to photos on my iPhone 4S running iOS 5then uploaded what I thought were edited photos to Facebook.
It turns out the edits were not really saved even though I saved the edits.
Original photos before the edits were uploaded Facebook.
Is this a bug? What would be the point of editing photos using the iOS 5 photo edit tools if the edits are not really saved for export?
    Is there a fix?

This is interesting, because I had the opposite experience, but then I touched something. :-)
It seems that the Photos app behaves like iPhoto in that you can revert your edits. It can be done directly in the Photos app (clumsy) or in iPhoto once you've copied the photo to your Mac (easier).
I cropped a photo and uploaded it to FB. It looked cropped both on FB and in my linked iPhoto album. I thought that Photos had overwritten my photo because I didn't see an obvious way to revert it. After discovering how to revert the image, I did so in iPhoto. Now the image on FB and in the linked album show the image as uncropped.
I don't know if this helps your situation, but it explains a bit more of the weird Photos behavior that's been observed since iOS 5 dropped.

  • How do I make iOS 5 photo edits permanent?

In iOS5 on the iPhone 4 when I edit my photos (crop, adjust color, etc) with the built-in photo editing tools, the photos look fine on the iphone, but when I upload them to my PC, they are not edited... they are the original uncropped, unmodified photo.
Is there a way to permanently save the cropped photo?
    Thanks,
    Dave

you're lucky your iOS5 upgrade added photo editing. did you do anything special? i have no photo editing functions on my iphone 4 after moving to iOS5. one of the main things I'd like and it didn't happen. Add the myriad problems which make my iphone4 pretty much a piece of **** now and I'd very much like to UNDO iOS5... but just wondering if you had to customize or do anything special to enable photoediting?

  • Photo editing extensions always seem to be buggy.

Strangely I haven't heard anyone talking about this, so first of all please let me know if I am the only one who is experiencing this, but iOS 8 photo editing extensions always seem very buggy to me. It doesn't matter who made them - Litely, Afterlight, Squareready, etc all seem to have problems. I often get a spinning progress indicator which never ends after editing and need to force quit photos and start over. Other times I get the spinning progress indicator immediately before I start editing and I can't even do anything. iOS 8.1 does not seem to clear it up.  About 50% of the time when editing via 3rd party photo edit extensions I experience some sort of hang up which requires me to force quit Photos.
Are all photo editing extensions just buggy or is apple's implementation buggy?

I have this, too. I've look online and it doesn't seem to be a common problem. I've got a 6 Plus. I had the same issue on my 5s, though. What have you got? I'm using the iCloud Photo Library beta… I was wondering if that might be related.

  • Editing location information on multiple photos

    Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an easy way to add location info to multiple pics at once? I don't have a GPS enabled camera so I took a pic with my iPhoto in each place I visited on my honeymoon so I could apply that data to the photos to all the pics I took with my camera, cunning plan huh? But alas it doesn't seem to help as I have to edit the location data individually, as far as I can tell anyway, anyone know different?....
    Thanks

    Easy
TO set the location for an entire event click on the"i" in the lower right hand corner of the event and set the location - it will be applied to all photos in the event
To set the location for a selected set of photos select the photo(s) and right click (control click) on one and use the get info command to open the places window - select the location and it will be applied to all selected photos

  • I have an Iphone4 and 3gs using the same apple id and same itunes account. is it possible for them to not share photos, contacts, and other information. I'm afraid to sync one and lose the info the other phone has

I have two iphone users sharing one apple id and itunes account. Can I snc both phones to the itunes account without sharing each others info i.e. photos, music, contacts? I am afradi to sync one and lose the information the other one has.

A solution would be to use Apple's iCloud to sync instead of iTunes. This requires the latest operating system, iOS 5. Now backups will be done to the cloud, and you can choose what gets synced across your devices by turning them off in iCloud settings (i.e. turn off Calendars, Photos, etc.).

  • IPhone Photos edited with iOS 7 losing adjustments in Aperture

I shot a few photos with iOS 7 this weekend while at the cottage and was importing them into Aperture (which I use to manage my rather large collection). I noticed that for some reason some of the adjustments were now missing. Yes my crops and auto enchancements were there but the colour effects I applied were not.
Just curious if anyone knows how to work around this? I figured I could always open the edited photos in another app like Camera+ and save them out again but that seems to be poor form as it'd result in generation loss.
    Any suggestions?

Could you give more details please, so we can compare notes?
How are you editing and transfering your photos - editing directly in the Camera.app, the Photos.app, iPhoto IOS?
And what kind of IOS device? iPad, iPod, iPhone?
And how have the photos been transferred to your Mac? Photo Stream? Import by connecting the device?
I just made a test on my iPad with IOS 7 and all edits transferred:
Taking the pictures with the Camera.app
Editing them in the Camera.app and saving the edited version to the camera roll.
The edited version with all edits appeared in the Photo Stream (a few hours later ) and all edits were there.
But if you edited in the Photos.app and not in the Camera.app, it is harder to get the edited version to the Camera Roll. I use iPhoto to save an edited copy of the photo to the camera Roll (from the "Share" menu in iPhoto). That adds them to the Photo Stream as well.
But the biggest problem with this is, that saving back to the Camera Roll after editing in iPhoto appears to be changing all dates and the lens information anad Camera Make is now missing from the EXIF..
The photo I took yesterday should show the dates like this:  Sept. 23,
But it is showing Sept. 24 for all dates:
So my suggestion would be to do basic edits in the Camera.app before the photos will be saved to the Camera Roll for the first time, and to postpone all further edits, until the photos are in Aperture. Or, to keep both versions in the camera roll, the original and the edited version.

  • How do I export an album from the iPhone Photos app in a form that retains location information so I can import it to ArcMap or Google Earth?

I have an iPhone 4S with OS 5.1 installed and I have taken several hundred photos that are geotagged and that show up in the Places page in the Photos app. These were taken for field work and have data in them that we want to use to tie information in the photos to locations in a GIS application. Therefore I would like to be able to export the mapped locations along with the photos in a way that would allow me to upload the locations to ArcMap or to Google Earth. I know that the individual photos have location information but the process of uploading them to Panoramio one at a time is labor-intensive, whereas I can take an entire album in the Photos application and quickly display locations tied to photos on the screen.
Also these photos were taken before I enabled iCloud on my iPhone and I'm wondering how to upload them even though they were taken previously. When I go into the "share" menu my only options are email, tweet, message, and print. I'd like to send the whole album to iCloud so I can at least bring it back into applications on my Macbook Pro.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to how I can go about doing either of these things?

This is something that I want to do as well. I'm new to applescript, but I found this script:
    http://www.bagelturf.com/aparticles/tips/tipprint/index.php
Go to about half way down the page. The script works well, but I'd like to change it so that I only export Versions w/ a specified "main rating" (or greater than a minimum rating)
If you look at the script, there's a line:
"set theimages to every image version as list"
FYI: "image version" is an Aperture class that represents an image version. "main rating" is a property of "image version"
Is there a way to modify this applescript statement to spec only those "image versions" that meet a min "main rating"? I tried a bunch of things, and none of them compiled. (I need to learn Applescript)
If not, then how could this be done w/ a little loop in Applescript?
    Thanks for your help!

  • Editing with the iOS 8 Photos app strips EXIF data from photos.

The new iOS 8 Photos app has some nice editing features and extensions from other apps is a good idea, however any editing done strips out all of the EXIF data from the photo.

I have the same problem. It's awful; if you edit and upload georeferencing and other stuff is lost. Fail.
It didn't strip it when I edited in Snapseed and then saved back to the photo library.

  • Iphoto in the latest edition crushes every time, when i try to edit the location of the photo, why? And how can i avoid this?

Hi, i updatet this week to Lion, and i did all updates for ilife as well. But know, every time i will change or edit the location/place of a picture, iphoto freezes. One cpu goes to 100% and iphoto dosn't work anymore. What can i do?

Hi, again! I got still the problem. Is there nowhere somebody with a solution (Apple maybe?).
It is annoying. I could still add photos but editing the location leads always to a crash. You can see the result in the screen shot above. In the doc is the monitor with one red bar - thats the cpu iphoto grabs and then freezes.
You could also see the field for typing in a location is still active (cursor is there) and the dropdown seems to wait for an answer of google... and thats it...
Is there a way to deaktivate this feature, so i can only type in my location without an location witch Google?
    Thx for help!
Please: do not recommend the reorganizing of the library or check of the library or else. This is all be done without any result...

  • Does anyone know wow to find photos without Location information?

I have geotagged most of my iPhoto library but am sure there are some pics that don't have any location information. I have tried creating a Smart Album using the Place field and playing around with the different operators (i.e. contains, starts, is, is not...etc.) with no success.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Larry,
Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately that still does not do the trick. I have photos that have not been tagged by GPS (per your suggestion) but which have been manually tagged to a Location that appear as a result in the Smart Album. In other words this "query" is responding with photos which truly don't have any location information and some that do...
    Any other ideas?

  • Change or add location information to a photo

It seems impossible to add or change location information in Foto's.
In iphoto this option was available , but seems to be removed in foto's.
does anyone know how to attack this?
Will Apple add this function again, since not all good camera's have GPS ?

Your web site could be configured to ask permission of the site visitor for using their location... but there is no method to pass that information to your FormsCentral form. So even if they allow Mobile Safari access to location services in the privacy settings, they could still say "No" when your site asks for that info.
A *potential* solution is to ask them to upload a photo of their current surroundings, and then you would be able to grab the geo location data off of the photo... *if* they allow the iPad camera to have access to location services. The problem with this as a solution is that if they have not enabled it, you would be getting photos with no exact info attached, and if they are allowing it, it's still a disconnected bit of data that you will have to somehow collect and attach to their submitted info.
You might ask, instead, for something like the zip code of their current location. Not extremely precise, but perhaps close enough for your purposes?
    I hope that helps,
    Brian
