IOS 8 - Preparing for enterprise rollout

Hello,
With the announcement of iOS 8 release date within the next week we are preparing for the rush to upgrade across our corporate user base. There are approximately 400 iPhones within our organization and I'm looking to understand what would be the best deployment plan or rollout method to get them updated once iOS 8 releases.

The issue is similar to what we are also facing. In our case, Safari goes into, we suspect, private mode and initial cookie is lost.

The same works for iOS 7 so there is definitely a backward compatibility issue.

I am having this problem. At first with the new iPhone 5, and then with the iPad 2. I am not sure why this is happening.
My gut feeling is this is an iO6 issue and here's why -
The problem mainly occurs with apps. I have about 150 apps, and when I plugged in the phone, iTunes went to sync all of them. The process would hang up after about 20 - 30 apps were loaded onto the phone. I could tell where about the process hung up because the apps on the phone showed up as "waiting".
Then on the iPad 2 I plugged in to sync and saw there was a huge "Other" component in my storage. It required me to restore the iPad 2 from backup. With this restore the same issues occurred - putting the apps back on the iPad would hang up. The videos on the iPad also got stuck - maybe after about 10 hours of videos transfered iTunes crashed.
My solution has been to soft reset the device, restart Windows, and continue the process until it's complete. This is remarkably inefficient and time-intensive but everything works with patience.
I have been wondering if others have had these same problems.

Export iOS app for Apple Enterprise Program?

Does anybody know if it is possible to export an iOS app for the Apple Enterprise Program. Deployment options are Ad Hoc or Apple Store and neither of them seem to work for Enterprise apps. Any help getting pointed in the right direction would be appreciated.

Yes. I can export Distribution certificates and Distrubution provisioning files and Flash will then export the .ipa file without issue. However when I go to install the app it seems to go over to the iPad and then I get a failure notice on the iPad. I am wondering if I am installing it incorrectly or if there is some step I'm missing. I am dragging the .ipa to iTunes to install it. If I export both the cert and the provisioning files as Development files the app goes on the iPad without issue, however it will expire in a couple of months so that is not what I want. I recently found this link http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/distributing-enterprise-ios-vi ewer-apps.html which leads me to believe I have to distrubute the .ipa differently, however I was hoping someone had seen a similar tutorial for a Flash ipa. But my guess is that you have to clear space on your harddrive.
The video gets rendered when you out put it, so you will need lots of space to do so.

Preparation for Consolidation in SEM-BCS.

Im implementing SEM - BCS (BW-based). I have the following versions:
- R/3: SAP ECC 6.0
- BW: 7.0
- SEM: 6.0
What do I have to customize in R/3 in order to extract the correct data to BW?
Do I have to do all the customization in transaction SPRO (Enterprise Controlling -> Integration: Preparation for Consolidation)?
I know that I have to create the companies and assign them to the company codes. I also have to create group chart of accounts and assign it to the transactional chart of accounts.
Can I do this in the account master data or do I have to have a Financial Statement Version for the Group?
Is it necessary to maintain Transaction Types for Consolidation?
Do I have to customize the Consolidation Staging Ledger and extract the data from here to BW?
I think I have to customize all this, but because all this transactions are in EC-CS customizing and I want to implement SEM - BCS (in BW), Im not sure if this is the right path.
Can anyone help me?

The company code in R/3 is equivalent to company (consolidation unit role) in BCS. The Group companies are created in BCS and the companies in BCS are under those group companies.
If I were you, I would check whether Fiscal Year Variant is same across all company codes in R/3. I would also check whether parallel currencies are activated or not. The transaction types in ECC are different from the transaction types (also known as Movement Types) in BCS. You will continue to maintain the FI transaction types.
Regarding the chart of accounts, I dont have a group chart of accounts. For what I understand theres two ways:
- creating a group chart of accounts in ECC and in BW will be available as part of the GL account master data
or
- creating Financial statement items for consolidation in ECC, Build a Financial Statement Version for the Group (linking the operational chart of accounts to the consolidation items).
I think, this is the only way for me to use the consolidation staging ledger (totals table GLT3)? Or am I wrong?
What you are telling me is that I dont have to do this in ECC, but in BCS customizing?

In your ECC, whether GLT3 table is activated? In many clients' companies, GLT3 table is not activated. The GL totals data is available in BSEG table.
If you do not have Group COA/ Group GL accounts maintained now, there are many ways to get GL totals data with Group GL level info added. You have already mentioned the steps.
One more method is create a custom mapping table of Operational GL accounts with Group GL accounts outside R/3 (to be maintained as part of BW) and make your R/3 GL totals data to flow thru this table, so that the final data in BW is available in both operational GL accounts and Group GL accounts. Developers will be able to help you.

This is RHEL/OEL 4 based, so centos or OEL or RHEL could be used as appropriate. They important thing to note is the '4' .. which is now a little ancient ... some things a little different in '5' and '6'. The exam could usefully do with a makeover IMHO.

Preparing for Oracle OCA 11g using an Oracle Express 10g database

As a software application developer, I have been considering Oracle certification for a while to enhance my skill set. Unfortunately I don't have access to a commercial Oracle installation, and would like to use a free version of Oracle Express during my studies. The latest OCA courses largely focus on Oracle 11g, and it would appear that there is no free (Express) 11g database available yet.
Could anyone please advise me whether it would be possible and practical to prepare for the 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I and 1Z0-052 Oracle Database 11g: Administration I exams using an Oracle Express 10g database instance, while accompanied by the relevant Oracle 11g study material? In other words, is the overlap between Oracle 10g and 11g sufficient that a solid understanding of 10g could allow me to successfully sit the 11g exams? Furthermore, would the Express edition of the database provide sufficient functionality to prepare for the Administration exam?

For 1z0-052 the situation is different. Oracle 10g express edition hides some of the administration tasks ... you really need to be using 11g.
If you dont waht Oracle 11g all over your regular machine then I would typically recommend install Oracle Enterprise Linux either on a spare machine with a dual core or HT processor and with 2GB or more of memory (eg Dell gx280 or better); or using a virtualisation solution on your current machine (ram would need to be 3GB or higher) (eg virtualbox or whatever ... though windows as a guest can have a license issue).

Preparing for iPhone 4S

I intend to purchase an iPhone 4S next week whilst away from home to replace my current iPhone 4.
As I may be away from home and my main home PC for a while before getting chance to sync the new iPhone 4S, I am wondering what is the best way to prepare for this?
Assuming that I can get iOS 5 installed on my iPhone 4 before leaving for my trip, will this allow me to transfer everything (music, contacts, email accounts, pictures, apps etc.) straight to my new iPhone 4S?
I can also sync the iPhone 4 with a netbook I can take, but as this is not my main PC it will not have any of my music / pictures on it, although I think I could probably get the contacts and email accounts synced via outlook.
Any ideas on the best way to proceed with this?

You need DPS Enterprise Edition and iOS Developer Enterprise program to create enterprise signed builds. You cannot create Enterprise signed builds using DPS Professional Edition.

If being to RC the devices is a requirement, then you won't currently be able to use iOS devices. On the other hand based on past experience with Windows based devices, I'm not sure the plus of RC capability is worth the possible negatives that have plagued Windows based devices in the past. I'd do some serious suitabilitly testing before I went forward in a major way. The bottom line is general supportability by IT and usability by end users. RC, while nice, in my mind and at our organization isn't a requirement. Your CEO may feel differently.

I have a 27 in. iMac with the latest version of Snow Leopard. When Lion comes out, will it be software I purchase and download online? I am trying to prepare for cost and don't have a point of reference, having been a Windows guy until last summer.

I want to know what to expect in terms of moving from one OS to another. Having been a Windows guy until last summer, my only experience is going from one version of Windows to another, which is usually a fairly costly purchase. I will want to go to Lion, but as a retired teacher, my income is fixed. I am not looking for a specific price, I am sure that is unknown, but I would just like to know help Apple does these things so I won't be sadly surprised.

Historically Apple has sold OS X upgrades via DVD media however with the advent of the Mac Apple Store that throws another possibility into the mix. That's about as much as I can say as these forums don't allow us to speculate about future products. As for the cost historically Apple has priced OS X upgrades between $29-$129, the last upgrade (Snow Leopard) was only $29 but that was an exception. Again we cannot speculate on these forums about that. The good news is that Apple is unlike Microsoft which makes OS upgrades expensive and complicated. The choice with OS X is do you want a server version (most users don't need one) or a single computer license. The users that buy server versions tend to have a number of Macs they manage from a server, most consumers don't have this issue.
Keep reading the news, as you know Apple has announced a Summer release for Lion.
Upgrades on OS X are usually very simple. I've upgraded from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and each transition has been very easy. With any major OS upgrade there are some basic rules to follow, for example always, always, always backup prior to any update. When Lion is released to the general public post again for what to do to prepare or even do a Google search on "How to prepare for OS X upgrade" and you will find a number of articles that will provide some suggestions and valuable insight. You can also re-post here and users will be happy to assist.

When sharing my 60 minutes iMovie project with iDVD inmediately message 'The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (Error in user parameter list)' appears. Could not find the user parameter list, so I've no more info about this error.
Option File - Finalize Project gives inmediately the same errormessage.
Also option Share - Media Browser - Large/Medium/Mobile give the same errormessage.

I have just loaded iLife 09 on my MAC. I've edited a movie and now want to export it, put it in iTunes, whatever I can do to move it beyond my laptop. No matter what option I choose under Share I get the same error message, "The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-2009)". I can find the error message online, but not the (-2009) error code. I'm also a longtime PC person who has just switched to a MAC. Can anyone help?

I also am having the exact same problem. iMovie '09. I have tried changing permissions on all sharing folders, exporting to desktop, sharing to iTunes in all size files - and yet still get "Unable to prepare project for publishing. error (-2009).

Acrobat XI Pro Install via CCP Packager for Enterprise unuseable - tips for the unitiated

Well, after at least six weeks of trying to script and package Acrobat XI via the CCP packager for enterprise (Windows 7 X64) I have learnt many home truths which I thought I would share with the unitiated. This process, from the point of view of an IT admin who has to mass deploy this application to 680 PC's as part of an updated SOE has been the most painful scripting process I have ever found of any package (we successfully deploy Office, and Autodesk apps!). Not only that, but our entire State technical colleges have all purchased the same version. This will be affecting IT staff across a huge area, perhaps worldwide. Below are some some facts relating to this that I will share so others do not have to trawl the minefiled of dead-ends and confusion that is Adobe forums/official documentation. Apologies for not finding direct links to all of the below just yet but I've run out of time as we now have MANUALLY install Acrobat XI on all of these machines. When I get time I will post some of the links:
Facts:
Acrobat XI and Lightroom are NOT "CC" packages. Therefore they rely on a spearate serial numbers to install standalone without another major Adobe product (eg Photoshop) to be installed and then run first. Otherwise they will run in trial mode. If your organistaion is wanting to install these products I highly recommend seeing if Adobe can provide you with these.
Without the use of serial number for Acrobat XI this almost renders the Customisation Wizard effectively useless, none of the silent install switch will work with "Offline Exception"
Yes, one Adobe employee notes that you must install a major package before Acrobat but as the aoplogies for not fixing this were posted last August, we are still in the quandry of not having any useable fix except for the ridiculous "Exceptions" file and Exceptions installer.
If you run the Build and/or execeptions msi's it installs Acrobat twice, gold Adobe, gold.

It appears that the msi builder for CCP for enterprise is fatally flawed. I have never had as much problem with installing msi's - ever. For example, I have had to re-package the msi multiples times and many times simply running the msi will fail.
The idea that all major installs have to install the 32 bit version AND the 64 bit version is riduclous, enough said.

I think for the time being I have now wasted enough time trying to tear my hair out with this. I will be waiting for Adobe to announce Acrobat and Lightroom CC. this will enable the correct deployment of a single app without having the bloat my SOE with unnecessary applications that most staff rarely use. Hi Waltpenner and others, yes it can be very confusing and writing script after script got me even more confused.
Now, the story continues, after 6+ hours on the phone with Adobe Support...
When you install Adobe Acrobat XI it asks you to install the C++ Redistributable package and this is where the msi will STOP INSTALLING. even though the MSI says "complete"
Now you think to yourself, OK, I'll write a script to install this msi package no problems, solved.
Nope, the msi for Acrobat Pro XI will Still Halt even if you write this into the script along with halt no err or something similar in your code.
So what do you do?
When you create your msi in Cloud Packager, even though this feels completely against your better judgement tick the box under conflicting Process entitled "Ignore Conflicts and Continue installations" This will (finally) allow you to run the msi. Please see the wonderful deployment script above, which you may still need to edit to your needs (I did) - which I post once it's working perfectly.
You could then install the C++ redist from Microsoft at a later date ----> On that note however (thanks Microsoft for this gem) the Visual C++ redist is an msi for download, but it's actually a zip file calling an exe inside it. I suggest using the App Deploy Repackager to help you change registry entries if you need to install this, but choose your favourite tool (and no I'm not talking about that work colleague you don't like
Note: You will need to install this for certain features of Acro Pro XI to function, most of which relates to sever functions of Acrobat. I will post the exact reasons when I find them. Under pressure to get this deployed, I have not deployed this pckage as yet. Also, I'm unsure how Visual C++ will affect other major apps across my enterprise just yet.
Things to still consider
Acrobat still installs twice in the program directory (1.7GB nd 1.8GB respectively)
As all of the other CC packages are quite easy to install, Adobe needs to provide better service to it's enterprise customers by creating a proper version of Acrobat and Lightroom which is Acrobat CC and Lightroom CC, not version numbers tacked onto their new Cloud Service.
As for the above point I would still recommend creating the smallest msi packages you can, as large msi's that install a number of Apps (eg all of the web/image editing apps) take forever and quite often exhibit install errors
The amount of time I've spent on this is ridiculous, and we've had to package everything from Office to Autocad.
The amount of bandwidth I've chewed up is excessive, with package re-creation (download) of all the products probably about 100GB - however the ability to edit these packages with updates with the CCP is a good step forward.
Using the CCP through a proxy is horrendous, and complicated with the amount of exception through the servers you have to prvide (even then it rarely works).
The MSI packager still needs quite alot of work. As Petri states why he had to write a script like this when Adobe could have done the same thing is beyond him.
Adobe needs to trawl it's forum posts and take out the many false leads and dead ends provided by it's experts.
When I Think of anything else, or wite more scipts I'll let you all know.
