Ios 8 Sluggish & slow

I have an iPhone 4s & recently "upgraded" to the new ios 8.0.2 software & I have found it to be very sluggish & very slow when opening all of my apps as well as my browser.. I've talked to a few friends who've updated their software on their iPads/ iPhones & they are having the same problem.. So my question is will this problem be fixed & if not is there anyway to revert back to ios 7.1.2 & if not does anyone want to buy an iPhone 4s with suspect software?
Also why isn't there an ios software community?

Restore the iPad as new

  • Firefox (3.6.10) is very sluggish/slow and hangs up

All of a sudden Firefox (3.6.10) is very sluggish/slow and hangs up
I've been using Firefox (very actively) for over a year now and all of a sudden (yesterday) it began to act very sluggishly. On sites I have always visited frequently it hangs up for periods of 15-90 seconds or more, won't scroll down, won't open hot links, slowly opens new tabs ...
I rebooted my PC (multiple times), powered down my modem and router, ran a Norton disk optimization - essentially making sure it was not an outside factor effecting Firefox's performance. (Note: I am using a cable connection.)
I then ran a side by side speed comparison with Internet explorer (on my 2nd monitor) going to the same web sites, and IE had no problems/hang-ups.
FYI I only have a couple of add ins/extensions (Java, Microsoft Framework, Norton, No Squint, & RealPlayer) and none of those are new within the past few weeks at least.
Any ideas on what could be causing this? How to fix? (As I much prefer Firefox to any Microsoft product.)
    Thanks.

Yes, FF gets sluggish from time to time. Sorry but it's the fact! FF also cannot render some websites properly (especially v3.6.10). I'm a big fan of all Mozilla software but FF 3.6.10 makes me very disappointed.

  • IOS 6, slow response to "Copy/Paste"

Why is iOS so slow to display the Copy and Paste prompts compared to previous OS's? I have an iPhone 4, which is considered old now, but Copy/Paste in a text field doesn't seem very processor heavy.
    What I experience:
When I highlight text, then hold a finger long enough to for the copy prompt to show up -- iOS 6 has a 2 second delay before the prompt shows up.

Check the manual http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf page 23 regarding copy and paste. It does not mention having to hold your finger down for the copy/paste prompt. I've tried my phone and all you need to do is tap to get the prompt, and if you select the text, it will come up automatically.

  • Is iOS 8 slow ?

IIs iOS 8 slow ? I find few of applications slow to start or crashing and switching on to wifi to cellular data or vice versa slow ,.. Guys ur view ..

Works fine on My iPad 2.  Seems slightly quicker than iOS7.  Most notably in Safari. Scrolling, and opening the Thumbnail view, as well switching Apps is very fast.
My iPhone 5, and iPad Mini (first gen) also work fine, I have not noticed any speed up from iOS7 there though.

  • What is the normal amount of GB of Other Space for a new 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3? Also, will iOS 7 slow down/drain the battery of my device?

My Other storage space was at 2.84 GB after i loaded all my music/apps onto a recently purchased 32 GB Ipod touch 5 Generation with iOS 6.1.3.  Resetting the settings and removing the music and apps did not help reduce the Other space.  I restored to a backup and got my Other storage space down to almost 400 MB.  When I started syncing music it grew 500-ish MB.  Each time I sync, the Other grows a bit more.  This is really irritating.
The official listed available GB on my 32 GB is 28.22 GB (not including Other), so now I am irritated knowing that this Other is taking up my space when I didn't even have 32 GB of free space to begin with. So 28.22 - 2.84GB = 25.38 GB.
I want to restore to a new device to see if that helps, but do not want to upgrade to i0S7.  Is there any way to do this?
If I upgrade to i0S 7 I am worried it might slow my ipod or drain the battery faster.  Will it do that?  The ipod is expensive and I dont want it to go downhill and obsolete on me because it can't handle a better operating system.

Less than 1 1/5 GB is normal. It does grow with time.

  • Is iOS 8 slowing down the wi fi on my iPad air?

Having lived through several OS updates I know that it takes a little while for apps to all be updated and for little glitches to be worked out.  However, I think iOS 8 has brought on some real issues with my iPad Air.
The overall issue is a slow connection to the internet.  This happens at home and in several other locations where I have used the wi-fi since updating to iOS 8 a few weeks, ago.  My work PC works fine (well... at least, the internet does), but my daugter's iPad mini (also updated to iOS 8) will slow down when she is watching Netflix, occassionally.  The family also has an iMac, which is working fine.
While using the Washtington Post (downloading the newspaper), Pinterest, Safari, You Tube, Mail and the App Store, the connection seems to slow down to a crawl making it impossible to continue what I am doing.
I've shut down and restarted the iPad, and then it works fine for a while, only to slow down again sometime later.  Sometimes the problem will seem to fix itself, but then it slows down again.  Sometimes, it happens when it comes out of sleep mode, and sometimes not.   Since I use my iPad to work from home, it is really frustrating.  I can delay my gratification when it comes to games and such, but not when I am updating my blog or reading my email.
I've Googled iOS 8 and wi fi and saw that there are a number of issues out there.  Some of the big tech magazines and websites are tracking some similiar issues.  I'm curious if anyone knows if this is all related to iOS 8 and if a future update will resolve it, or if there are ways I can test my hardware on my iPad to make sure it is working properly.
    Thanks!

How to remove ios 8 ? This is biggest failure of Apple. It slow down my ipad , freez application, freez key board....?

  • IOS 7 slows down wifi

Since downloading iOS 7 I have much slower WiFi connection and video playback is impaired. iPad 3

I've had poor wifi connection and poor WIFI range after updating to iOS 7.
    Resetting Network Settings fixed it.

  • Firefox 3.6.7 and 3.6.8 are sluggish, slow and unresponsive.

I am experiencing slow web page loads on all web pages using 3.6.7 and 3.6.8 on Mac, Windows and Linux Ubuntu and CentOS. Numerous websites recommend turning on network pipelining, upping the max requests, and disabling IPv6 dns, using the about:config command. That solved my problem, but beyond voiding my warranty ;^(, it also makes some ipv6 web content inaccessible. On a fresh Firefox install I am encountering wait times of thirty to one hundred seconds per page load, totally unacceptable in my workplace. At home, page loads are between fifteen and thirty seconds, and I am running dual core processors. The support community seems convinced that this is an IPv6 issue, so maybe there is a bug in that area. I don't want to think that IPv6 is going to slow the internet to a crawl.
Anyway the recommended solution that worked cross-platform is to disable IPv6 using about:config, set "network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true."

I've been having the same issue for many weeks. Intermittent freezes where the mouse cursor locks for up to 10 seconds at a time. Random 5-10 second pauses between opening adjacent tabs and just plain intermittent sluggish response. The frequency of slothfulness "appears" to be increasing with time. Either that or my patience is decreasing. I'm using the same box (Intel P4 2.8GHZ/3GB ram) I've had since installing version 6.xx of Ubuntu. Firefox was always been speedy until Ubuntu 10.04. No problems with Opera or Epiphany. Obviously they have nowhere near the feature set of FF so using them is a downgrade in convenience. However the FF performance has degraded sufficiently to where I'm finding myself using Opera more often than not. I've tried all the conventional fixes including the reportedly 'tried and true' '''disable IPv6 using about:config, set network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true."'' method to no avail.
Let's hope a rev is soon released addressing the problem or one of the other browsers begins to offer the same nifty add-ons as FF (fat chance).

  • IOS 8 Slow Speed & Hanging issues

If you are experiencing slowness and Hanging on your iPhone or iPad after the update to iOS 8... then you should try below procedure:
    1. Reset all settings
    by going ->Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings
    2. After Restart go to Settings->Privacy->Location Services
Turn off all Apps and System Services with exception of Find My iPhone or any other app(s) you need location services for it.
    3. One more important point is that don't use any sort of third party keyboards(e.g. Swift Key, Flesky, etc) until Apple or 3rd App owners provide a strong patch for this issue.
Note: I was facing the same above problem but after doing above steps now my iPhone works same as iOS 7 with all brilliant speed.
Let me know if this helped!

Hey thanks Hazmat this actually solved the mystery!

  • IOS 5 slow - ruined my iPad

Apple, how could you do this to us? We upgraded our iPads (v1.0) to i5, and now they barely work. So slow as to make them nearly unusable. Oh, how I wish I hadn't upgraded. I loved this little tablet. Please help your loyal customers, and fix this problem for us. Don't let us hang. Don't make excuses like you did for the iPhone 4 antenna problem.
We desperately need you to either fix iOS 5, or allow us to downgrade to 4. Please acknowledge this problem, and stop suggesting things like "shutting down and restarting, or turning off iCloud." This only makes you look worse, as neither option helps, and turning off iCloud is exactly the opposite of what you want us to do.
It might be a little insensitive of me to say it, but if Mr. Jobs were still here, there would be blood in the aisles at Apple right now. Lots and lots of blood.
    Respectfully yours,
    John

Unfortunately your suggestion didn't help. However, Apple did the right thing and released 5.0.1. My iPad has returned to its former speed, and there are fewer app crashes. So once again my iPad works well.
As for my comment about it being unusuble, this was no exaggeration. Take typing for instance. I would press a letter and it would just freeze for 3 to 5 seconds. It was like typing in ultra slow motion... Unusable. Switching tabs in Safari could take up to 20 seconds... Unusable. Apps would crash withing 5 seconds of opening, and just keep crashing repeatedly... So unusable.
I think you get my point.
Thanks for the fix Apple. You did the right thing.

  • Sluggish / slow Apple TV menus

I had this annoyance before upgrading to 3.0 I think, but I can't help feeling it's now worse.
Essentially, menus are just sluggish and slow to respond to clicks on the Apple Remote. Sometimes clicks will register instantly, but more often than not the unit takes a second or so to respond to my button presses. The LED registers clicks so it rules out a problem with the remote. It's just like using a computer in which the CPU is maxed out.
    Anyone else suffering from this?

Thanks for the good suggestions. I'm running in 720p, so I don't think that'll be the issue. I wonder if it's a network problem, so I'll try disconnecting it in the morning.
One thing of note is that almost all my media used through Apple TV is streamed over 802.11n from a Mac elsewhere in the house. The signal strength is decent, but do you think the sluggishness could be caused by so much of the data coming across the wireless network?

  • Clicking/switching tabs and menus has sluggish/slow performance.

Clicking or switching through tabs has sluggish performance. Going through Menus and Options is sluggish too even with one blank tab opened. I doubt that it is my laptop because browsing through files and folders is fast and immediate. Google Chrome has a huge difference in performance.

Having the same problem. After LOTS of clicking and experimenting, here's what I think I've found:
    # The tab performance when not maximized was much better.
    # Outside of safe mode, the Add-ons tab appears to be FAR more sluggish than any other tab. No specific extension or plugin is slowing it down. It simply lags.
    # Switching between Mozilla sites seems to be slightly sluggish compared to switching between tabs for other sites
    # Disabling the "Tab Utilities" extension (ithinc) made the performance when maximized equivalent to the non-maximized performance. This leads me to believe that the difference between the two is caused by this plugin. The Add-ons Manager tab, and Mozilla sites were still relatively slower.
    # Disabling all other extensions offered no additional improvement, but, strangely, starting in safe mode did. While inside safe mode everything is super snappy.
    # I have a sizable list of extensions, including a large number of disabled extensions (most of which I can't "remove" because they are from 3.6)
The time periods on #5 are very small, on the order of perhaps 80-100 milliseconds. Just long enough that you do a double take and wonder if it was really slower, or just your imagination, but then when you compare against changing tabs in chrome, it's clear that you aren't crazy. There is no noticable difference between safe mode and Chrome, but there IS between non-safe-with-everything-disabled and Chrome.
Is it possible that this is caused by some sort of broadcast to all plugins about the tab change? If so, could this broadcast be completed asynchronously, or else AFTER the tab switch? This is really a perception issue. To feel "fast" to the user, the click should result in instant visual feedback. If my plugins want to know something about the change, I'm satisfied with letting them wait until after '''I''' find out about it.

  • Help! iOS 6 slows down internet! Downgrade iOS 6 to iOS 5?

Ever since I upgraded to iOS6, my iPad 2 Wifi became very buggy, internet somehow slows down considreably. Facetime, in particular, gets interrupted by a black screen with "poor connection" message frequently.
I have a 2Mbps internet, yes it's slow by worldwide standard, but it was adequate to do facetime video chat in iOS5, I had no problem whatsoever then, this only started after I upgraded to iOS6.
And it's not a connection issue, I've checked and rechecked. My other devices works fine with the same connection. ****, I can do HD 720p Skype video chat very smoothly on my laptop with the same 2Mbps connection, but somehow VGA resolution video chat on facetime is choppy?
I thought things would eventually get better with more upgrades, so I kept upgrading. 2 weeks ago, I upgraded to the latest 6.1.3, and facetime somehow got worse, black screens with "poor connection" seem to appear every 5-10 seconds.
I have spent the last 4 months trying to find solution to this "poor connection" issue. I have tried all the suggestions I could find on the net, I have reset my router, reset my iPad's network settings, change the date, etc. But nothing seems to work!
I'm fed up, I tried to downgrade my iPad back to iOS5 today. I just found out that Apple blocks us from doing so and it's impossible to do without jailbreaaking my iPad? Is there no legal way to downgrade to previous version? I feel that iOS6 is inferior to iOS5.
If there isn't, is there any other way to fix this poor connection issue? Please tell me something I don't know. It feels like I've read and tried every solution on the net and nothing seems to work.

The problem likely lies in your router regardless of whether other devices aren't displaying it. I use Facetime with iOS 6.1.3 and a 2 mbps internet connection without a problem.
Check for a setting for QoS in your router and turn it OFF. Also check for WMM.
I you need more help please give the make, model and version of your WiFi router.

  • G5 running sluggish/slow

In the past month or so I've noticed my G5 (Dual 2Ghz PowerMac, 5GB RAM) has been running sluggish. Regular tasks are frequently giving me the spinning beachball and everything is taking longer to launch.
I've repaired permissions multiple times but that hasn't helped.
Diskspace is no where near full (135GB+ available).
    Any ideas?

Since you are backed up, the first thing I'd do is see if disabling some dashboard widgets makes a difference.
If not then try repairing the directory as my FAQ explains:
    http://www.macmaps.com/directoryfaq.html
If not the directory, then try to see if some third party peripheral is slowing you down.
If not, how old is the computer?
