IOS 8 sync - no space

after downloading iOS 8 I now need 5GB of space to sync my music. - Why? It all fit before and the ribbon bar indicates it will fit
any ideas?

The 'other' space has been a constant problem. Across numerous devices (during iOS6, iOS7 and to a seemingly greater extent iOS8) it builds up for no reason. I don't even have to sync a device to see it steadily build. On my iPad it's at about 4 gigs, on my iPhone 4 it was upto nearly 3 and now my 5s it's around 2 gigs and building everyday. It can go up anywhere between 20 – 100 mb a day and that is with no new downloads/apps/minimal texting with no attachments/pics. I do use match but I disable downloads/usage under cellular and yet it still grows. In any event I never used match until recently and it grew even then. So the ‘other’ thing is an issue with iOS. Apple should provide easier tools to identify what is in there and the ability to free up space on the device itself. I suspect the vast majority of iDevice users have lots of ‘other’ space eating things up without knowing (or perhaps caring). I do understand vital system data may fall in this category but it’s a bit frustrating when you go into your usage list on the iPhone or iPad add everything up and it does not reconcile with what you have used and falls short but several gigabytes. I have used iExplore to delete files under cloud assets folder but very often this frees up very little (this is another frustration that often videos do not ‘stream’ but download and take space and do not necessarily delete themselves)
The best way to combat ‘other’ is to restore which is a PITA but it always builds up over time.

How do have more space after deleting my apps from iTunes. I just deleted over 18 apps and then I sync after clearing the trash but still my space didn't move and its still showing that i have a lot of apps after deleting them.

  • How much ios 5 backup space required

I had roughly 7 GB space left on my macbook when I updated to iOS 5 on my iPhone 4.  During updating, it said I needed 18GB to back up all the media on my iPhone (we have 2 kids so all the pics and video take up a lot of space!).  So, I moved my music folder temporarily to the external and the install went all fine.  After installed, I moved my music folder back, had the roughly 7GB left.  However, now when I'm syncing the computer keeps running out of space and I get a message that the hard disk is almost full and the iPhone never completes a backup.  So, I'd move data off the computer, free up a few GB of space and try syncing.  During the backup portion of the sync, all the space would get eaten up and I'd get the hard disk is full message.  I've gone though this process 3 or 4 times now, having deleted or moved a total of about 10GB off my computer.  I'm currently down to 125.1 MB of space again.
I checked the size of the backup folder and it clocks in at 33GB.  I only have a 32GB iPhone and have 2 GB of space free on it.  So, shouldn't the backup be significantly less than the 33GB it now shows?
I'm perplexed because I don't know where all my free space is going and why is the backup folder bigger than the actual size of the iphone?  Plus I can't backup my phone.

If you haven't figured this out yet, check out here.
I had never downloaded the apps the way that is described here.  Didn't even know I could.
Also, after doing multiple "Transfer Purchases" I found I had two of my apps on my phone were no longer available (one was a discontinued free version of a now exclusive pay app) and I had to delete them from the phone before I could get a clean "Transfer Purchases" i.e. one where there was nothing to transfer because they were already downloaded directly to itunes from the page you get to in the store clicking on the new "Purchased" page.  Then I just synced again, backed up again, and did the update and it finally worked!  Yay!

  • Why Won't Reminders for iOS Sync with iCloud?

I've been forced to use iCloud for Reminders now that I've upgraded to Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Because Reminders & Calendar share a checkbox on Mountain Lion, I've been forced to use iCloud for that, too, because once that checkbox is checked, Calendar refuses to sync with my phone via iTunes.
Now, the sole reason I've done this is to sync Reminders between my iPhone 4 and my iMac, but no matter what I try, after the initial sync when iCloud is set up, changes to my Reminders (additions, edits, etc.) refuse to make it to iCloud. I know because I've added and changed numerous reminders in the last few days, and none of those changes show up on iCloud.com. So this is an issue between iOS and iCloud's servers.
This has been going on since I upgraded OS X and enabled iCloud last weekend, and the only time I've managed to resolve it was by doing this:
    1. Backing up all my Calendar & Reminders data
    2. Turning off iCloud for Calendar and Reminders on both my iPhone and iMac (making certain to preserve the Reminders stored on my iPhone, which had the most recent changes)
    3. Deleting all the Reminders shown on iCloud.com
    4. Turning iCloud back on for both devices.
I'm not sure if all these steps were necessary (especially deleting the Reminders from iCloud.com), but the even if the other 3 steps are, it is unacceptable to me (and anyone with half a brain) to need to turn iCloud off and back on every time I want a backup of my iPhone's Reminders on a different device (in case I lose the iPhone or it is destroyed).
In case anyone was wondering, I've already tried all the troubleshooting steps at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4000. I'm running the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion with all applicable updates, and my iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 6 (6.1.3) that Apple will allow me to have. Yes, that means I haven't patched the SSL bug, but I'm rarely away from home, and when I am, I am rarely somewhere with accessible (not locked) wi-fi. In addition, my home network is secured and running good encryption, so I'm not worried. I just turn my wi-fi off when away from home.
Oh, and upgrading to iOS 7 is out of the question at this point in time, because I don't like it (especially the look and the combined Address/Search bar in Safari, among other things) and I'm concerned about battery life/performance. Also, I've seen a class-action lawsuit going around right now regarding the fact that iOS 7 can potentially fry the Broadcomm wireless chip in older iPhones (i.e. mine).
So, with all this info in mind, can someone help me?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that all your contacts are in your primary iCloud group, only contacts in this group will sync with your primary iCloud account.
In the example above I have a secondary iCloud account, but you might also see a 'On My Phone' group.

  • Why don't I see shapes (created with my iPhone 5s) in creative cloud (for iOS) and used space in CC is 0 MB? Where are they stored?

I installed Adobe Shape on my iPhone (iOS 8) and don't see, where the shapes are saved.
In CC app for iOS there are no files (and used space in CC is 0 Mb). And I don't see my shapes in your other your apps (for iOS: Ideas, Photoshop Mix).
How can I export shapes to any files storages?

The CC app for iOS does not currently show assets in CC Libraries.  The app only shows assets in folders.  Check out this thread for details on how to get your shapes.
How do I use shapes I create in Adobe Shape?

  • Bug: pressing backspace to delete a word in Pages for iOS automatically deletes space before word

    Hi guys,
When I delete a word in Pages for iOS 7 character-by-character, the deletion automatically includes the space before the word, even if I don't initiate a keypress for that space. This is sporadic in that it consistently occurs in some sections of text (usually at the end of lines) and not in others, in paragraphs with custom Styles and in paragraphs with default Styles alike.
If the bug happened consistently, I could probably by habit overcome this extra deletion. However, since it does not happen in every circumstance, it's unpredictable and as such very disruptive to my workflow.
This occurs in new documents with no formatting. I've also tried Resetting All Settings, restoring the app through the Settings menu, and deleting and re-downloading the app from the App Store. It occurs both when I use my Bluetooth wireless keyboard (Logitech) and when I use the iPad Mini's OS keyboard.
I really don't want to restore my entire iPad just to fix this problem, as I think it's an app-based bug (the problem does not happen at all in any other text app).
This Pages version is 1.7.2, and I'm using iOS 7.0.2 on an iPad Mini WiFi only.
Could anyone with a similar setup try this out? I can't be the only one...right?

I am experiencing this as well. In another thread (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5374836) it appears someone contacted support about it and was told this is expected behavior.
For me, this will cause me to stop using Pages. It's extremely aggravating.

  • Photo sync storage space

If I import my photo's from iPhone to iPhoto and let it remove them from my phone, they come back to my phone through the photo stream which is expected.
But if i then sync iPhoto with my phone through iTunes, they also now appear under Albums in the Photo Library.
Is this now using twice the storage for the photo's?

When you take a photo with your iPhone with PhotoStream enabled on your iPhone, the photo is not sent to your Mac and back to your iPhone under PhotoStream.
A photo captured by your iPhone is saved in your iPhone's Camera Roll. If your iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network at the time, the photo is uploaded to your PhotoStream. If your iPhone is not connected to an available wi-fi network at the time, the photo is not uploaded to your PhotoStream and won't be uploaded to your PhotoStream until your iPhone is connected to an available wi-fi network.
Importing the photo from your iPhone's Camera Roll with your Mac when your iPhone is connected to your Mac is a completely seperate process.
If you have limited storage capacity available on your iPhone and you don't have another iOS device, turn PhotoStream off on your iPhone. Import photos/videos from the Camera Roll with iPhoto followed by deleting the photos/videos from the Camera Roll after the import process is complete. You can transfer select photos/videos that you want available on your iPhone back to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process. You don't have to transfer your entire iPhoto library to your iPhone. You can transfer select iPhoto Albums and Events just as you can transfer select iTunes playlists/albums/artists with music. You don't have to transfer your entire iTunes library with music to your iPhone. The same applies with photos/videos in your iPhoto library.
PhotoStream is limited to 1,000 photos and 30 days. It is temporary.

  • New IOS 4 update space required?

I have a 3g and won't use much of the 4.2 update. So, why does the OS take up over 1.2 gig of space on my phone? It seriously puts a dent in storage space. Why can't there be a way of installing only what my phone can use? Why does the IOS need to be so bloated?

The OS does not take up 1.2 gb. You most likely have some corrupted files on your iPhone bloating the Other space. Try doing a restore to correct it.

  • Itunes 11.0.1 still not updating apps in library during iOS sync

i dont know if this is true for you but i still have the same problem in itunes 11.0.1 that was there is itunes 11.0. apps updated on ios are not being updates in itunes library during sync.
please let me know if u have a fix or  know a thread where the fix has been posted.
    thanks
    Neerav

This is an easy fix.  Just try this: Without connecting your phone, open iTunes and go to Preferences, on the Devices tab check "Prevent...from automatically syncing".  Next authorize your computer for all Apple IDs used to purchase these apps in iTunes>Store>Authorize this computer.  Now connect your phone and when it appears on the left sidebar of iTunes right-Right click on its name and select Transfer Purchases (this will transfer your apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library).  Right-click again and select Backup. Now go through the various tabs and select your sync settings (Music, etc.), being careful not to select to sync contacts or calendars on the Info tab unless the program you are syncing with has at least one contact and one calendar event (which will trigger a merge or replace prompt when you first sync).  When you have everything the way you want click Apply to sync your phone.  Note: When you sync to a new iTunes library iTunes will erase all iTunes media and replace it with the media in the library you are syncing with.  You have transferred your apps so they will sync back, however you must also import your music and other media to your library or it will not be transferred back to your phone when you sync.

  • ASR9k IOS-XR upgrade space required - bytes or bits?

While reading through the upgrade doc for 5.2.2, I found an inconsistency in the documentation.
    http://www.cisco.com/web/Cisco_IOS_XR_Software/pdf/ASR9k_Upgrade_Downgrade_Procedure_IOSXR_Rel_522.pdf
Under section 2 - verifications, step 5 - check disk space, the doc says you need 1.54 GB (capital B) for upgrade.  But when I run the command 'show filesystem' the directory sizes are listed as b (lowercase b).
I suspect the IOS-XR output is wrong (lower b should be capital B)  2685895680 b is only 0.3357 GB

  • Podcasts downloaded with iOS sync back to Mac iTunes with wrong title

When I acquire podcast episodes on an iOS device, either my iPod Touch or iPad, via the iTunes store program, these podcasts have the correct title.
But once I sync this device back to iTunes on my laptop, these podcast episodes no longer have the correct title, but usually are re-titled "rss", and read as such on both the iOS device and iTunes.
Is there something that's wrong with either my iOS devices or iTunes? Or is this a bug that needs addressing?

  • Syncing: Free Space discrepancy

Hope there is a solution for this other than, "wipe it and load everything all over again."
Somewhere in 4.2 I think, a Free Space discrepancy has developed in my iPad. When performing a sync, the Free Space decreases by about .50 GB while in the middle of the sync, but then increases back to normal when the sync is complete.
This did not happen before with the iPad.
The problem is still there in 4.3 version. My iPhone does not have this problem and it has also been upgraded through 4.2 and now 4.3 version.
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you store photos on the iPad, try deleting the cache.

  • Under which conditions and when does iPhoto IOS sync to iPhoto Mac

    Hi,
iPhoto iOS is really great to work with. Unfortunaltely an edited Photo in iOS version never shows up in iPhoto Mac version. An deleted Photo on iOS will not be deleted on iPhoto Mac. I have around 18000 photos.
I can not imagine that this is by default....
Is there any document which explains a bit more what to do ?
    Here is what I tried:
I hoped this changed photo will get synced via iCloud , but ths  did not wok.
-I plugged in the iPad via ISB , made a sync.
-I deleted all photos on the iPad and resynced them.
-I deleted the iOS Photo cache and resync all photos.
    Till now without any success.
    Any ideas ?
Does it work on your side or do you have the same problem ?
Thx you so much in advance
    Andreas

I have this same query. I was hopeing changes you made on either version (iPhoto for ios or mac) would push to each other. Is there a way to make this happen? i.e. you delete and enhance some photos in iPhoto (ios) and they sync to the mac verion, so both versions contain the same changes, amount of photos, etc.
Thank you to anyone who replys.

    Hi Vikas,
We do not distribute a sample project for iOS in DMS 11.3. But you can find basic info of project settings from the screenshots embedded in mcguide.pdf . Please take a look at section "6.2.2 Build Settings" in mcguide.pdf, and check if you have set 'Library Search Paths' (Figure 6-5) correctly and added libosync.a in the project (Figure 6-2).
