IOS 8: sync problem

I have a 64GB iPod Touch, 5th Gen.  It worked fine under iOS 6, which was installed when I bought it.  When I "upgraded" to iOS 7,  last year, the problems with syncing started, and have never been addressed by Apple.  There are dozens of posts here, for the same issue:  the iPod Touch, Gen 5, will not/can not sync properly with iTunes.
Guess what? The problem persists with iOS 8!
I just installed iOS 8 on my Touch, and I had to completely restore the device, including all 12,000 songs.  It has now been 72 hours, and it is still synching, with the message "waiting for items to copy" showing in the iTunes status bar.
Apple has offered no explanations, dating back to when iOS 7 was introduced, Fall 2013.  One year later, no resolution, no comment, no explanation.  I took my iPod Touch in and had it replaced under warranty, but even that did not fix the problem.  At one point, I tried to downgrade to iOS 6, Apple refused to allow that, even though that would have fixed my problem.
There are dozens of "fixes" described by users on these pages, none of which work.
What has happened to Apple?  There was a time when they would have fallen over backwards to fix what is obviously an endemic iPod Touch issue, but not a word from the new Apple.  I swear that they have become the new "Big Blue".

Pete:  what model iPhone are you using?
I need to report some follow-up observations.
The deletion of all artwork definitely solved the sync issue on my iPod Gen 5, in that I was able to transfer all 10,000+ songs to my 64GB ipod, without issues.
However, I laboriously went  through all the artwork I had, after using Doug's script (see link above) and made sure that everything was 600x600, jpg, 72 dpi, just like most of the iTunes supplied art (although newer art is 1400x1400).  That took a few hours!
Then I tried to re-sync, and no  matter what I tried, the iPod would not sync properly.  I also tried the manual (drag & drop) mode, that also did not work.  What would happen is that syncing would stop (end), but all I had was, in most cases, only my purchases, and a huge yellow "OTHER" data in the bar graph, indicating that the iPod was loading all 10,000 songs, but did not know that it was music.
My conclusion is that the iPod Touch Gen 5 cannot handle artwork, period, under iOS 7 or iOS 8.
In the end, I simply deleted all the artwork again, synced the iPod, and at least I now have music in my car, but art functionality is completely missing.  I'll wait until Apple addresses the issue, but I will not hold my breath - this has been going on since the introduction of iOS 7, last year!
I'm seriously considering selling the iPod on Craigslist, and going for one of the new high-capacity iPhones, IF THEY WORK, but I have no confirmation that they will handle 10,000 songs with artwork!

  • IOS 5 Sync Problems

So maybe I'm missing something here, but let me lay out the situation for you.
My Touch is running iOS 5. I updated my podcasts in iTunes and hooked up the Touch for syncing (manually over the wire and all). Everything seemed to go well and then when I went to listen to one of the new episodes that was downloaded it showed as being there but is unselectable. It's faded out. I re-sync wired, and over wi-fi...nothing. It's only happening to new episodes and everything else is working just fine. The episodes play without problem on the MacBook.
It seems that this is happening becuase when I sync to iTunes it is canceling itself dispite no action from me. It tends to get to a point where it's done syncing artwork and is in the midst of doing podcasts...and then it cancels out of the blue.
I've restarted the MacBook, I've restarted the Touch, I've synced wired and wifi. Result is consistent.

For what it's worth the Geniuses (and I had a total of 3 working with me at various points in the session) seemed about as confused about the problem as I was. An hour was spent basically trying the same stuff I already tried  (in fairness most of that time is sitting and waiting as things restore, sync, etc.). Then we figured out it was a software problem on the computer and not the iPod (since the iPod would sync with one of their machines without problem).
They tried to uninstall/reintall iTunes...which as of OSX Lion, apparently you can't do (which they seemed to learn there in that moment) so instead we reinstalled all the software updates from the files they had on their network.
That seemed to work, I synced about 600 or so podcasts before I left without a problem. I had already been there two hours, so I opted to go home to sync/set up the rest of the device...which also seemed to go smoothly until about 9PM. Then I noticed it was starting to give me the same problem with songs...I updated my podcast list and tried syncing that...same problem again.
So we temporarily solved the problem...and now it's back again. At least I have stuff to listen to today and I'm back to see the Geniuses again this afternoon.
They're really sticking with me, but it's disappointing that it's happening still.

  • Yosemite and iOS iMessage Syncing Problem

I am SO frustrated. I've read forum after forum and CANNOT seem to set up text message forwarding. I've signed into just one apple id across all of the devices (@icloud.com), I've selected receive from and only had my email address selected. I've toggled the iMessage on and off on my phone (sometimes crashing iMessage - it says it's activating and then says it can't connect to iCloud). I've turned on BlueTooth and tried connecting my devices and then clicking "Enable Test Message Forwarding." Whatever I do, I CANNOT seem to get the activation code to pop up on my laptop. It just won't.
There is a SERIOUS bug in iMessage and this problem only started after I updated to Yosemite and iOS 8, on my new iPhone 5.
Before updating anything, my MacBook Air and my iPhone 4 were working together beautifully. After updating to Yosemite, suddenly I could receive messages on both devices, but they would show up unread on my phone even though I checked them on my laptop and vice versa and my replies would only show up on the device where the replies originated. When I switched to the other device, conversations appear one sided - I can only see the series of messages my friends sent me in the conversation on the other device (without my replies).
Today, I was furious because I texted someone from my phone while at work and then thought that I never heard from them. I went home to discover that their reply only went to my Macbook Air, which had been sitting at home, closed, on the kitchen table!
I thought I fixed it because one or two messages I sent from my iPhone showed up on my laptop when I used it later in the day. However, I have yet to see this successfully happen again.
    PLEASE FIX THIS BUG, APPLE.
    Kind regards,
    K

    Hi,
What I am understanding form your post may not be what you think you are telling me.
Nor does it quite match what I thought I had posted.  (post/message  is only as good as it is understood by the recipient)
On the iPhone in the iMessages setting remove all additional emails.
Remove the Apple ID you are using for iMessages
Then place in Airplane Mode (ON) which turns everything else Off effectively.
this will leave Messages with just the iPhone number listed when you go back to the settings.
Wait for the iPhone Number to Verify (re-register) with the servers.
    Apple IDs
I have an Apple ID I made years ago using an external email address from a Dial up provider.
At the start of iCloud I linked it to iCloud and received an @Me.com email ID either works in iTunes and logging in to the web page for iCloud.
    Later I also got an @icloud.com email/ID
Sending an email to @me.com or @iCloud.com gets to my Mail App that lists the @me.com variant.
Emails sent to the original email address do not come through the Apple servers.
iMessages treats each as a separate ID.
It is important that the Apple ID used on the Mac and the first one used as the Apple ID in Messages on the iPhone are the same - even if they are linked elsewhere.
(It can be different to the iCloud setting on each device)
when you add the Apple ID to the iPhone the mac should get the Pop ups to say what the iPhone is using.
Accepting them adds the iPhone number to the Send and Receive options in the Mac version (And th Start conversations from drop down).
At this point on the Mac you should have only two IDs active to Receive and Send (the Apple ID and the iPhone Number).
Text Forwarding should then be enabled on the iPhone, prompting the Mac version to show you the code, which then needs entering on the iPhone.
There are limits to some Model of Mac regarding Handoff and Airplay (my mid 2011 iMac will do Airplay between Macs but not with iOS devices).
I am not sure if there are limits to Text Forwarding though.

  • IOS 8 update and Ford my touch in sync problems

I upgraded my iPhone 4s to IOS 8 last week.  It no lingers works with my 2014 Ford Escape my touch in sync technology.  It pairs, downloads the phone book, and makes calls...however it rings twice and ends the call.  Any suggestions?  I contacted Ford and we reset everything twice and no luck.  I spent $38,000 of a car to use this technology and one simple update can do this???  Help

There is a huge discussion going on about this here on the Apple forums: Iphone 6 and Ford Sync Bluetooth Does Not Work , iOS 8 wifi sync not working, iPhone 5s with iOS 8 connection problems to Ford Sync system. .. And it's also on the Ford Sync forums:  http://boards.synccommunity.com/discussions/Welcome_to_SYNC_Owner_to_Owner/_/_/f ordsyncmb/9257.62 . Doesn't seem to be any resolution to the problem other trying hard resets (which I have tried and it hasn't worked). GL, let me know if you find anything!

  • Video Sync Problems in iTunes 11.1/ios 7

I have recently upgraded to ios 7 for my iPad and iPhone, and iTunes 11.1.  I added two new videos to iTunes (.m4v format) and now when I try to sync with my iPad it seems to hang forever on "Waiting for changes to be applied" and then gives me an error message that the videos are not of a format that can be played on the iPad.  This is odd since I already have .m4v videos on my iPad that play just fine.  Moreover, I deselected some videos and they do not delete from my iPad as well.  Is anyone else encountering this?  I have seen some posting regarding music files and playlists not syncing, but nothing about movie files.

I've had video syncing problems (not with music though) when I updated my iPhone 4s to the new IOS 7, but I finally figured it out. What I did was I plugged my 4s in to my computer (Windows 7, 64-bit), then opened iTune (11.1.3.8), clicked on my iPhone tab on the upper right, under "Summary" put a 'check' in the Manually sync music & videos.
Looking at the picture above, notice the: Movies, Music Videos, and  Home Videos; are now available. Before this method, these three wasn't there. These are all in the original Videos app for the iPhone. I hope this help you guys too.

  • Audio Sync Problems With Share YouTube -- OSX not iOS

I've replicated this several times. It's maddening and bizarre. *Share YouTube*
Exporting a FCPX video using the "SHARE" menu and choosing YouTube causes the resulting upload to be out of sync when viewed in Safari or other browsers on iOS
Viewing the same video on the iPad with the built in YouTube app, the video plays in sync
Viewing the same video on AppleTV 2 (with the 5.1 update), the video plays in sync.
If I export using Export Media menu item under the SHARE menu, and then from QuickTime Player choose Export For Web (under the File menu) and manually upload, the video is in sync.
    Note, that using
Feel free to try on this short simple and silly video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGTQNMJdPRQ&list=UUiDxioBFJCPC-8OUFifsx8A&index=2 &feature=plcp
Anyone else experience this. Is this a bug or a feature? Rather not go through three steps to upload a simple YouTube video.

We've got the same problem and yep, it's infuriating that are so few posts about it.
It doesn't happen with every video, but the vast majority of files that we've tried to either export directly to YouTube from QTX or export locally and then manually upload to YouTube end up with shockingly bad audio sync (and also some colour issues, but that's another story).
As a small video production company we were chuffed to bits with the improved export speed in QTX and quick to make use of it. But when we realised there was a problem, we had to revert back to using QT7's painfully slow export.
We've run experiments on a brand new iMac and MacBook Pro running the most up-to-date version of OS X and still no joy. Always the same audio sync problems with the same video files.
In the meantime however,  we've found that the settings advised on this YouTube help page have given us the best (albeit slow) results at both 25fps and 30fps when exporting from QT7:

  • IPad syncing problem - HELP!

iPad sync problem - HELP!  I keep getting this message "...cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional ...space needed)"  and yet I seem to have plenty of space on the iPad.  This just started today.  I even tried deleting some things to make even more room, but it didn't help.  Any ideas???
I was thinking of restoring, but I've never done it...  should I?

  • Audio sync problem with videos imported from iPod Touch

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation that I used to shoot video at a family birthday party. When I imported the footage into iMovie '11, the audio is not in sync with the video (video is about two seconds behind audio) and there is only the left channel of audio. I verified that the video on the iPod plays just fine--no audio sync problem, both left and right channels work. I just upgraded to iOS 5 on the iPod Touch. The iMac is running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
As a workaround, I can import the video into iPhoto instead. When I play the video in iPhoto, there are no audio sync problems and both channels of audio can be heard. I have imported other iPod Touch videos successfully into iMovie '11 in the past few months, but this has been the first time these problems have occurred. Any help would be appreciated.

Premiere cannot handle clips with variable framerate.
Your converted clips need to have constant framerate.
Otherwise use a converter like Handbrake.

  • When is Apple going to fix the iTunes 11 syncing problem!!!!

After troubleshooting the iTune 11 upgrade seems to cause syncing problems for everyone. I've tried everything and my ipod will no longer sync. Help! When is Apple going to apply a fix for this?????

My sync problem has been going on since I updated to IOS 8. I have had two telephone help calls and one Genius Bar visit. I am no further forward.
MY iPhone and iPad will randomly fill to capacity with OTHER files requiring a complete reboot. I have disabled iCloud drive and tried reorganising and deleting files from my iTunes library. All of my devices worked almost perfectly prior to this upgrade. I now dread syncing either of my devices to see what latest iTunes problem is now present.
I Have one simple question which no one at Apple has answered. When iTunes finds a file it doesn't like or will not sync why does it not flag it up with the reason for the problem. iTunes has done this for many years with incompatible files and missing album art work. If iTunes could only tell us why it is continually waiting for sync to start or give us a reason for our iOS device suddenly filling to capacity with OTHER files at least we would be able to do our own diagnosis and repairs. Apple need to sort out this issue soon. I'm losing patience and faith in Apple products. So no iPhone 6 upgrade for me till this gets properly sorted.

  • New Touch Missing Movie Rental/Game "In-App Purchase" Sync Problems.

just picked up the new iPod Touch 4G (64GB) and am syncing to Win7 Starter (32bit).
I rented a few movies before I bought the Touch. They all seemed to download fine. the "Move" sync process seemed like it worked perfectly. When I looked back at my movies on my touch, some of them were missing. When I double checked my rental section in iTunes the movies were missing. I remember a dialogue later, saying that the file couldn't be found. I ran a quick windows search with no results.
So it seems like I could "Move" the movie fine, but after the sync finished, the files were gone from both the computer and the touch.
Could someone please explain this, and what I may do to recover those files? I did pay for them after all, and would still like to watch them. I just don't want to pay for them twice.
    Also (another similar issue):
I downloaded and played the game "FieldRunners" fine, but then decided to do an "in-app purchase" for the next level. I clicked download/entered my info/ and it seemed to download correctly, but when I re-entered the app, the level was not available to play. just weird.
FYI: this is my first iOS device, so please don't flame me for newbie ignorance.
    Any advice/suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks.
Overall, Here is my experience with the new touch:
First Connection: Installation did not work. Unplugged / Replugged USB worked correctly. (no restart necessary).
Selecting content to sync: Did not detect Outlook 2010 (FULL/NOT BETA) for Contacts/Calendar/etc.
I chose not to sync this through iTunes, and instead setup an "Exchange" account on my iPod Touch through google (m.google.com). Works perfectly.
I have my other email addresses forwarded through gmail to take care of push notifications. I still don't have Outlook 2010 calendars synced with google yet, but I'll figure that out.
Then I noticed the other sync problems mentioned above.
Again, any help would be appreciated!

    Hi Epski
Let us know how you go as i'm having the same issue also. I upgraded to yosemite and itunes 12 at the same time and thought the OS upgrade was the issue. I downgraded back to Mavericks again (for lots of reasons i won't go in to here) thinking this would fix the problem but it didn't.
When i play any video content from itunes 12 in full screen goes dark once the controls fade away. QT, appletv or anything else plays them perfectly, as per itunes 11!
You don't have a Samsung TV by any chance do you?

  • Automatic (intelligent) Playlist Sync Problems

    Hi,
I am using iPhone 4S running on iOS 8.2 and Itunes for Windows 12.1.1.4 and I have got problem with a special playlist.
I have defined a playlist like this:
Track, which have not been played for more than 2 year
    and
have got rating for more than 3 stars and genre is not like pop.
The playlist is working on itunes fine and selects files according to definition. If I play a song on iTunes this sone will be removed from this list on iTunes. This works perfect.
iTunes even syncs this ist to my iPhone without any mistake.
When I play one song on my iPhone from this list the playlist recognizes that I have played this song and is reducing the amount of songs after playing each song. At least I have heard all songs and now my problem is starting.
iTunes does not recognize that I have played these songs on my iPhone and does not update the playlist at iTunes for the on the iPhone played songs.
It seems that there is a sync problem from iOS 8.2 to iTunes 12.1.1.4
Does anybody have got any idea how to fix this problem?
    Any help would be appriciated.
    CU
    Christian

You can make a playlist of your own and set the option yourself. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put the size of the playlist you want to sync in the number box, choose "MB" or "GB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Select key photo for iOS albums synced with iPhoto on Mac

In iOS 7, if a user was syncing photos from iPhoto on a Mac to an iOS device, it was possible to choose what key photo would be displayed for each synced album in the Photos app on the iOS device.  In iOS 8, this seems to have been removed, and when syncing, a random photo is now selected for each album instead, which doesn't seem possible to change.
Has anyone been able to find a solution/workaround to this?
I'm guessing/hoping control will be restored to the user when the new Photos app is released for Mac OS X Yosemite, but any feedback will be useful.
    Thank you.

Same issue. Ever since upgrading to iPhoto on my retina MBP to 9.4.2. Problem seen with BOTH my iPhone 5 on iOS 6.0.1 AND iPhone 4S on 5.1.1, so not an iOS issue. For me, it impacts both albums and events. In fact, sometimes you can't even see the event under iTunes->device->photo tab, until you exit iPhoto & iTunes and restart both with phone plugged in. There is a workaround for the album's mis-order: by manually sorting photos through dragging a photo to a new location within the album and then placing it back. However, this doesn't work for mis-ordered photos under events.  Right now, I just have to live with it....  I have even tried removing all photos, deleting iPod photo cache, and starting anew. Even 1 event with 30 photos have the same problem.....
Really annoying as I like to see my event photos sorted by date.
Somehow, such syncing problems always seem to occur EVERYTIME there's an iPhoto upgrade. Are apple's departments so siloed? Do they not work with one another to test a software before releasing it?
Apple, please investigate and fix the issue ASAP!
