IOS 8 wont allow me to send iMessages from phone number

All my iMessages since the update are sending from my email address instead of from my phone number. I have already gone into send and receive in iMessage settings and Start New Conversation From has my phone number checked off. You Can Be Reached By iMessage At has checked next to both my email address and phone number but the phone number is faded and I cannot click it to make it black.
Please help!

I'm having the same problem. There is one thing that works for me, but you end up deleting your whole message history with other poeple, so be warned. In case you don't care about message history:
     1. check the email under "you can be reached by imessage at" so that both the number and email are checked
     2. the page then extends with the option of "Start new conversations from". Only have your number checked
     3. if you delete and start a new conversation with someone, they will receive it from your number.
I'm still looking for a solution though as I want to keep my message history with other people.

  • Iphone 6 not sending imessage from phone number

I got my iPhone 6 yesterday and this morning whenever I try to use iMessage it gets sent from my icloud address rather than my phone number. I went into settings > messages and tried turning imessage on and off, which did not work. I also tried just selecting my phone number instead of the email addresses listed and the messages do not send. Signing in and out of my apple account doesn't solve any issues either. Using imessage on my macbook uses just my icloud, too. Any tips?

SO....The same issue arose AGAIN!!! So I did the HARD RESET, and I realized..... to avoid this from ever happening in the future....
This is the only thing that fixed it I was so stumped! Thank you, I had previously tried just a standard restart , also signing in and out of imessage and apple id several times.... but the hard power down is the only thing that fixed the problem. HighFive
AFTER HARD RESET (PRESSIN THE TOP AND LOWER BUTTONS AS SAME TIME)
    POWER ON
AND APPLE IMESSAGE WINDOW WILL POP UP AND ASK IF YOU WANT TO USE YOUR EMAIL WITH YOUR IMESSAGE, IT WILL ASK FOR YOUR APPLE ID.....
SELECT CANCEL!!! DO NOT PUT YOUR PASSWORD IN BECAUSE IT WILL THEN SET YOU UP FOR EMAIL TO BE USED FOR YOUR IMESSAGE, IF YOU CANCEL THAT WINDOW, IT WILL ONLY USE YOUR PHONE NUMBER, AND WHEN YOU ARE NOT AVAIL FOR IMESSAGE IT WILL SEND THE MSG VIA TEXT INSTEAD OF IMSG OR EMAIL...THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION AND SINCE I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM GETTING OR RECIEVING IMESSAGE
    Good Luck! Happy iPhoning

  • MacBook Air iMessage from phone number

On a MacBook Air, is there a way to send iMessages from your phone number instead of from your email adress?

    Yes.
Open Messages, and go to Preferences (under Messages in the menu bar).  Choose the "Accounts" tab, and where it says "You can be reached for messages at", click "Add email".  Then type in your iPhone's telephone number.  (An iPhone is required - otherwise, this will not work.).  You may need the full international prefix; e.g., in the U.S., the phone numbrer may look like +1 (987) 654-3210.
Once that phone number is accepted, you can set "Start New Conversations From" to that number.

  • Sending iMessage from my number versus email account

Every time i send a iMessage out, the receiver says its coming from my email address. How can i change it so that people will receive iMessages from my phone number versus my email?

  • Messages not allowing me to iMessage from phone number?

    Hello all.
I have had my iPhone 4S for nearly two years now and it has worked beautifully.
    Until today.
I knew that when I changed my Apple ID password late last night (I had forgotten it and needed it for a non-related issue), I would have to re-sign in. So I did so firstly on my MacBook (Mid-2010 MacBook White UniBody running OS X 10.8.5 (I need more RAM before I can update OS)) and Messages appeared to be fine (aside from not supporting my cellular number, which I assumed would automatically fix once I signed in on my phone). I sent a few messages to my friends, and it was fine.
When I put my password for iMessage on my iPhone this morning, it had only my email checked as available to be messaged. My mobile number is greyed out and not able to be selected. I tried sending a test iMessage to my phone(which it turned blue as if to send an iMessage), but it said "Not Delivered". I use my phone to iMessage the most, and really need my number available to iMessage.
I have tried many of the suggestions such as turning all Apple ID related things off and back on, deleting all my messages, re-entering my number for my Apple ID account. Nothing has worked. The one thing that is my last resort is a backup and factory reset. I really do not want to do that, as it is a headache.
    So, my two questions are:
    1) How can I get my iPhone's number back to being able to be iMessaged again?
And 2) Once I enable my iPhone's number, how can I add that to be a recipient on my MacBook?
    Thank you so much.
    Stacy

I have completely signed out of iMessage and re-signed in a few times no, and no luck. It still only lets me use my email.
It shows the attached image when I go to Settings>Messages(iMessage is ON)>Send & Recieve. I can iMessage using my email, but the phone number is greyed out and unable to be selected.

  • My imessage says "waiting for activation" and wont allow me to text using my phone number?

  • Can't imessage from phone number, only from/to email.

under settings/messages/send & receive at my email addresses are listed, but the phone number is grayed out.
    running iOS8.2 on iPhone 6

    Hi crideout,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From your post I understand that your phone number is not checked and also is grayed out in your Messages settings on the iPhone.  To start with, your phone number will always appear grayed out on your iPhone.  In order to get it checked in order for you to be able to send from the the phone number, I'd like you to simply turn iMessage off, and then back on.
tap Settings > Messages and turn iMessage off.

    Cheers,

  • Phone crashed, re set to factory settings now iMessage from phone number won't work

    Hey all,
So my iPhone 5s had some sort of mini crash and long story short it went into recovery mode when I plugged it in to my Macbook. I had to reset the phone to factory settings and go through that entire to-do. After restoring my phone, I thought every thing was working fine and imessage was working as well. But then someone tells me that they can't send me imessages to my phone number but instead have been texting me through my email address connected to my apple ID.
I go into settings and messages, imessage was turned on and I looked at the send and receive section. However there is no send section, just a "you can be reached at" section. My email address is checked and my phone number is faded (and unclickable) and does not have a check mark next to it. I've tried turning imessage on and off, obviously, but it tells me there is a problem activating imessage (although when I hit ok it continues to wait for activation). I'm not sure if this detail is important but I am currently abroad and connecting over wifi (which is extremely strong). When I go into imessage on my laptop , my number isn't listed at all as well.
Someone please help. I am currently abroad for another week and imessage is very important for contacting people back home. Thank you.

iMessage activation requires an SMS to be sent to the Apple Servers in the UK. IF you do not have a cellular connection, that could answer why it is not activating. You can check this support document for help with activation of iMessage. iOS: Troubleshooting FaceTime and iMessage activation
If you are using Wi-Fi only, that would also explain why it would not be activating the phone number.

  • Send Messages from phone number?

Is there a way to link my iPhone cell # to my Messages account? The primary issue is, what if I am sending a message via Messages to a phone number, but for whatever reason data isn't working and the message mst be sent via regular SMS. In that case, the message will never be sent and I have to revert to sending the SAME message from my phone.

At this time, you cannot link your phone number to iMessages on an iPad/iPod/Mac.  That feature is coming later this year.  You can only send/recv iMessages to emails.  You can, however, add the same email to your iPhone for the time being.

  • Not being able to send iMessage to PHONE NUMBER, but able to send iMessage to E-MAIL ADDRESS

My sister's iPhone's iMessage setting "You can be reached for messages at" is set to her PHONE NUMBER and her APPLE ID e-mail ADDRESS. When I send a text message to her APPLE ID e-mail ADDRESS it goes as an iMessage and she receives an iMessage. However, when I send a text message to her PHONE NUMBER it goes as a TEXT message from my phone but is received as an iMessage on her end. She is able to send an iMessage when she sends a text message to my phone number.
Why is the text message to her PHONE NUMBER not going as an iMessage?

So far, I must say iMessage has not been very reliable.  It has taken much longer time to send out or receive iMessages because it has to go through Apple server to relay the message.  It also does not keep the message at server to relay at a later time if the recipient is not on 3G data or wifi.
If you go to your iPhone setting, under Messages, you will find that "Send As SMS" is turned on by default, meaning at any time if iMessage server is busy or has difficulty in relaying the message over to the recipient., your message will automatically be changed to regular SMS.  If you want to avoid that, you have to turn off "Send As SMS".  But by doing that, you may sometimes find messages not being delivered.

  • Lost phone, trying to iMessage from phone number on Mac

So I lost my phone the other day and its off (I'm assuming it got ran over I think I dropped it out of my car) and I want to imessage from my verizon number from my computer until I can get a new phone... But my icloud email won't connect my phone number to imessage on my computer... Is there any way to do this without the use of my phone? I used to be able to but it seems that when my phone is off I can't use my number. (Using verizon)
    Need help, thanks.

    Hi,
It is better that you set  this up with the Phone.
In Mountain Lion however the item in Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages accounts that says "Add email" could be used to add iPhone numbers.
I have never tried this but it was reported widely at the time Messages started as a "new" app.
    Having said that.
A device that is off from several days will tend to be "removed" from the iMessages list of an active item.
i.e. just turning Off Messages on the iPhone for about three days will "remove" it's Registration from the iMessages server.
If you turn it on again it will show "Waiting for verification" for some time.
i.e. you may not be able to use the iPhone number.

  • How to unlink iMessage from phone number?

I recently switched over from iPhone 4 to a Samsung Galaxy S4. I used the iPhone for 2 years with iMessage on. I no longer use the iPhone. I turned off iMessage on my iPhone, I unregistered the iPhone from my Apple account. However my friends and family that own an iPhone with iMessage turned on, everytime they text my number...my new phone doesn't receive the text message. It still shows that my number is iMessage capable with the blue bubbles. And that is weird because I own an Android device now. How do I fix this issue? It's really annoying and I can't receive any texts from those people with iPhones.

i just changed from iphone to android as well and dont' get iphone users messages as they still 'see' me as a imsg'er..my husband is still an iphone user and we both would sync our phones into the icloud..apple service got me to delete my account from itunes but it still doesn't work. i am dumbfounded as what to do now. everything is deleted on phone, mac but still no msg's..any ideas?
