IOS 9 Beta 3

Great update, thanks for the news, I updated to 9 beta 1 when it first arrived, but quickly reverted back to 8.3 as the battery drain was huge, my iPhone 6 wouldn't last the day without being plugged in.
Tempted to go back, but I too didn't like the new font. I have an Apple Watch and yes the font works on that display, but not as good on the iPhone.Battery drain on iOS 9 Beta 1 was one of the main issues. I reverted back to the 8.4 Beta almost immediately because the rate at which the battery was being used was almost comical. Safe to say that it's MUCH better with Beta 3 as I mentioned in my original post.I just wish they hadn't changed the font. It looks rubbish

So, I installed iOS 9 Beta 3 last night. Here are a few first impressions for anyone who is interested.
Installation was slightly problematic. Once I had downloaded the .ipsw file from Apple, I restored the phone through iTunes as normal. Once it had been installed, the phone took me to the home screen but none of the apps worked. I was able to press the icons, but nothing opened up (not even settings). As a result of this I performed a hard reset and the phone went back through the setup process, and worked fine. It initially set the phone up as a new handset, so I had to restore it again via settings in order for me to be able to restore from my iCloud backup.
Once I had selected to restore the phone from an iCloud backup, I was hit with a further issue where the phone took absolutely ages to restore. I was stuck on the "estimating time remaining" screen for around 40 minutes before the progress bar kicked into life. From there it was business as usual and the phone took a couple of minutes to restore all of my apps and settings.
So, once I'd got my phone up and running I noticed that it seems quite a bit faster than Beta 1 and Beta 2. I don't know whether it actually is, but it certainly felt sharper opening, closing and using apps.
Battery life continues to be AMAZING on my 6 Plus, and Apple's claims about iOS 9 improving the battery life certainly appear to be ringing true. I still haven't used the power saver mode as, quite frankly, I've never needed to. I charge the phone each evening out of habit (and because I used to have a HTC One X which was a proper battery muncher) and it never gets down below 75% during the day, even with fairly constant usage (ie. when I'm bored in work!).
I think I will let the battery run down over the course of the next few days, just so that I can use the battery saver and see how much difference it makes when I'm down to my last 20% or so.
As you will already know, iOS 9 Beta 3 now comes with Apple Music. Honestly, I don't think that this is something which I would use all that often, but I'd be quite interested in signing up to the 3 month trial just to see what it's like. One thing I did notice is that Apple has now removed the option to turn off the "Connect" feature in Apple Music. This feature was reportedly accounting for a LOT of battery drain in iOS 8.4, and there was previously an option to turn it off in the settings menu (under 'restrictions'). I've checked and, unless I'm going blind, I can't find it any more. Hopefully this means that Apple has fixed the battery issue, so there is no need to toggle it on/off.. Fingers crossed!
I haven't come across any other issues yet, but like I said I only installed the Beta last night so haven't had a lot of chance to use the phone.
One thing I will say though - I still really dislike the new font which has been used. It might look ok on the Apple Watch, but personally I much prefer the original font.
That's it for now

I'm currently running ios 5 beta on my iphone 4 and when i woke up this morning my phone had decided to automatically update the software OTA. After connecting to wifi and switching on location i proceeded to follow the instructions 'slide to setup'. I was informed that it may take 3 minutes to activate phone but was then presented with the screen 'Could not Activate iphone', this is because the activation server is unavailable. Can anybody shed some light on this for me?
    Many thanks

Not here. iOS5 beta is only available to registered developers, and discussing it publicly outside of the private developer forums is a violation of the non-disclosure agreement you signed to access the beta.

  • Can't upgrade ipod touch to ios 5 beta 2?

Hi everyone! I recently tried to upgrade my firmware from ios 5 beta 1 to ios 5 beta 2 (I have a developer account, paid the $99 and everything).
The upgrade to beta 1 from 4.3.3 was pretty much flawless. When I tried to upgrade to ios 5 beta 2, it seemed to work until the last step, at which point the ipod touch was off and could not be turned on. When connected to a computer, it said it was stuck in recovery mode. I couldn't switch my firmware in Organizer any more, not even back to beta 1.
I restored down to 4.3.3 again cause I figured it would wipe the whole thing and let me upgrade back to beta 1 at least. That much worked, I have an ipod with 4.3.3 on it.
Now when I try to upgrade back UP to beta 2 or even beta 1 again, I get this error: "Could not allocate buffer (file exists)" and the ipod goes back into recovery mode, and I must again restore down to 4.3.3.
What file is this, how can I delete it, and how can I upgrade again to beta 2? This ought to be the last time I need to upgrade with a wired connection, since all updates from Beta 2 onwards are OTA as far as I know.
I was quite fearful of "bricking", but a friend who is far more familiar with the inner workings of the ipod touch than I am has assured me that since the computer detected it in recovery mode, it wasn't a lost cause.
I was originally attempting the install from a slightly older version of Xcode, which is probably the root cause of this problem and I am now kicking myself.
    Thanks for the help!

  • How to restore audio in iOS 8 (beta 5) after requesting mic access?

I posted this question over on StackOverflow before realizing that the AIR team might be working on a fix: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25168882/air4-how-to-restore-audio-in-ios-8-beta-5-afte r-requesting-mic-access
In a nutshell, requesting microphone input in iOS 8 will terminate all audio if it's done AFTER a sound has already been played, but not if it occurs before (sample code is in SO post).
Apps were tested using an iPad 3 the Flex 4.6.0 SDK with AIR 4.0, and with AIR 14.0 - the same behaviour was exhibited.
This poses serious problems for our apps, which are already released and being updated for iOS 8, so please let me know if this is a known issue, and if not, whether you're able to confirm from your side.
    Thanks!

Yes, exactly the same flow on our side - interesting to know that it's FLV as well.
My problem remains, though: in iOS 8, if I play a sound (via MP3, SWF, etc) and then check the mic, all further sound in the application stops indefinitely until I close/reopen the app. Since we need to record audio at various times in the app, this will cause a major problem for our users!
I've added a bug in the hopes that someone can verify the problem: Bug#3801262 - Requesting microphone access in iOS 8 (beta 5) terminates all further audio
    Thanks!

  • How to go from ios 6 beta to ios 6 official

Hey guys im already running the latest version of the iOS 6 Beta version on my developer iphone 4s 64 gb... Today the official iOS 6 release came out and im wondering if there is anyway i can upgrade to that without having to restore my phone... :|
If so please do let me know... would save me a lot of trouble since my laptop isnt with me xD

Since most of the apple tools are too busy making love to Tim Cook to help, here is the solution.
    1. Do a full backup of your  junk. Because this involves a system restore.
    2. Some people are reporting an error during this process, so you may need to put it into DFU mode. Instructions on how to do this may be found here. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x6FSHAp6fvk
Yes, that's YouTube, don't get use to that site, because apple has removed it from ios6. They don't think the largest video website in the world should be viewable from a 500 dollar ipad with any reliability.
    3. iTunes should then ask you to do a restore. It will now download the updated ios6.
    4. Restore your junk.
    5. Seriously ask your self if you want a company this controlling building your products.

  • What happened to auto layout in iOS 6 beta 3?

I just downloaded the newest beta version (3) of iOS 6. After I continued work on my projects, which uses auto layout on iOS, I noticed something was wrong. After about 5 hours of testing I figured out that the behaviour of iOS deviced changed between beta 2 and beta 3.
It's very easy to see for yourself. Download the sample code from WWDC 2012 and find project called LineLayout. Run it in Xcode 4.5 Dev Preview 2 (bundled with iOS 6 beta 2) and then run the same project in Xcode 4.5 Dev Preview (bundled with iOS 6 beta 3). You get very different behaviour. The problem is that I couldn't find an explanation of this in the API diffs and I'm not sure if it's a bug or a desired (though changed) behaviour.
Thanks for any advice. I suspect this must have happened to a lot of people who are already using auto layout in iOS apps.

brantwedel did you notice the post was made over a year ago when iOS 6 was in beta.

  • IOS 5 beta messages won't sign in

I have decided to use the new IOS 5 beta. From what I've seen, the brand new application i messages works on IOS 5 beta. I updated my third generation iPod touch to the new beta software on iTunes 10.3. Ounce I had finished setting up the new software, I messages wouldn't let me log in. It would say bad connection even tho it was perfect. Please help.

    Hi,
Some of this is to do with how fast an App can "wake" compared to how fast the Mac can re-establish the Internet connection.
The only clear method is to either use the Messages/iChat menu > Accounts and Untick then re-tick the ones you want to Login (fully) or the same Menu > Preferences and Untick "Use this account" then reselect to Login (Again)

  • Running iOS 7 beta 3, I've noticed decreased Verizon service coverage.

I'm an iOS developer and thus am running iOS 7 beta on my iPhone 5. Once thing I've noticed which may not be directly OS-related is a notable decrease in service coverage. Places where I previously had 3/4G, I now have one or no bars. This is widespread and consistent since the upgrade from iOS 6.
Obviously this could be an OS-related problem, but I just wanted to check whether there is anything on Verizon's end that might be throttling down connections from the beta OS.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Either do a reset or reset network settings.
reset: hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.
If that doesn't help. settings - general - reset - reset network settings.
You will not lose any data doing both of those suggestions.

Obviously since you have iOS 7 you're a developer.  As a developer, you signed a NDA with Apple not to discuss the iOS on a public forum.  Please log in to the Developer Forum using your credentials and ask for help there, lest you risk having your credentials terminated.
Thanks, and best of luck to you.

  • Microphone bug affecting Adobe AIR 14/15 and iOS 8 beta

Apologies for cross-posting this, but I want to make sure this shows up in the right sub-community.
Bug report here: Bug#3801262 - Requesting microphone access in iOS 8 (beta 5) terminates all further audio
I'm hoping that someone at Adobe can acknowledge this issue and confirm that it's being investigated. If anyone knows of a workaround, I am all ears.
    Thanks!

    Hi Panax,
Thanks for reporting and sharing the sample app. We have reproduced it at our end and have started the further investigation.

  • Adobe AIR 14.0.0.110 for iOS on iOS 8 beta 2 - Game Center not authenticating in the Game Center ANE of the Gaming SDK?

I included the iOS 8 beta sdk and I have an app that is using the adobe gaming sdk's Game Center ANE, but Game Center isn't authenticating when I test the app. Is this a bug? Will it be fixed? I don't have two iOS 7 devices and I can't downgrade to iOS 7 so I'm stuck not testing my new app. My IDE is flash professional CS6.
