IOS and hand-free in-car messages

When will iOS support reading text messages when the phone is ocnnected to a hands-free headset in a car? All urban areas require hands-free phone operation and text messages are a part of everyone's mobil life. This feature is availble on Winodws phones today and I miss it now that I have an iPhone.

Use Siri as razmee suggests, or purchase an in car system that supports the Message Access Protolcol (MAP) Bluetooth profile.
Siri has done this since iOS 5.0. MAP support was added with iOS 6.0.

  • E90 and Hands Free Car Installation

I have a problem, my car an Alfa 156 is fitted with a Nokia hands free set and this works perfectly with my old 9320i phone through the POP port.
My new phone is an E90 Communicator and I wish to update my car kit to match. The E90 does not have a POP port and I believe relies on using a Bluetooth connection whan used in this context, I also want the cradle to be an active one to keep the phone charged.
The problem is that the control box fitted to my car is an HFU-4 unit and this unit does not support bluetooth.
With all of the cabling already installed and working for the antenna, microphone, connection to the car radio etc I want to take advantage of this and change the control unit to a HFU-5 unit which I believe does have blootooth built in, and change the existing cradle as well.
    Is this modification possible?
Where can the parts be obtained?
What should I be asking for?
    Thjanks for your help, Mark.

    Hi msandilands
Presumably you have a CARK-126 fitted in your Alfa Romeo. The connections are the same on the HFU-5 (CK-7W) but you will need the CU-7 control button to adjust volume and answer the calls. You will also need to connect the blue wire on cable set PCU-4 to 12v +ve ignition sense to turn unit on/off.
Unfortunately you might need to use a Brodit holder for the cradle solution.

  • Car Charger, Radio Transmitter and hands free device for IPHONE

Is there a device that I can purchase that will allow me to charge my IPHONE, listen to music stored on my IPHONE thru the car radio and also all me to use the phone feature hands free? If so, where can I purchase it?

I wish I had a product to point you to (and am still a little baffled that Apple didn't include voice activiation) but I think your best bet is to look at various audio systems, zero in on the best candidates, and make a check list of specific connectivity features you're looking for.
There are many after market audio systems which have MP3 input capability or an iPod adapter that you can use to play tunes off of your iPhone. These units usually do not allow much iPod playlist navigation (i.e., you need to find what you want to listen to on your iPod/iPhone before you start driving).
These after market systems also have Bluetooth hands-free integration. To an extent, they will work with any Bluetooth enabled phone, but the extent of how well they work is mixed bag unless the iPhone is specifically listed as one of the phones it supports. For example, with your iPhone paired to a third car audio unit, when your iPhone receives an incoming call, the music will fade down and you will hear your phone ringing through the car. You will then be able to answer the phone and hear the caller. Whether or not they will be able to hear you is anyone's guess with the audio unit's generic Bluetooth phone driver. With a third party audio unit which lists the iPhone as one of the phone it supports for hands-fee use, you will be able to speak to and hear an incoming caller. You may be able to program some of your most frequently dialed numbers into your audio system and dial out via your audio system, but you may not be able to upload all of your contacts; and even if you can, you need to make sure that you can dial those entries with speach recognition in your audio unit because it is not available in the iPhone.
Check out JVC. I think they have an in-dash navigation unit that supports the iPhone. Again, you need to specifically find out from JVC the extend you can dial with speech recognition or with uploaded contacts.
If anyone knows of any systems which are fully integrated (i.e, will upload contacts and provide speech recognition for dialing), please post it.

  • Hands free in car with MP3 connection?

I have 2 friends that have the same Blackberry (8310) and both are able to attach a cable to their Blackberry and a MP3 jack in their car an are able to be hands free.  They can hear through their car speakers while talking on their phone.  I have the same model of car (Toyota Matrix) and curve (8310) however my serice is through AT&T and theirs in through Verizon.  I cannot get mine to work this way.  Is there some setting I need to adjust so this will work?  (Headphones that came with my Blackberry do work so this leads me to belive that the jack works.
    Thanks,
    Tom

are you sure it's the same jack you have in both cars ? it may be something else that depends on the options when you buy the car.
Mayby you have the option "speaker" but not "microphone".

  • Can i connect my Pebble watch and hands free in my car at the same time?

    Hey guys,
I am thinking of buying a pebble watch,i'd like to know if it will be possible to have the watch and my handsfree in the car connected both simultaneously via bluetooth? Any input is appreciated ! cheers

Should work fine; my boyfriend has a Pebble and a Ford...Escape, I think? And he hasn't had any issues with having both connected.
I don't think you'd be able to pair, say, a bluetooth headset or similar and your handsfree system since they're similar devices (both have speakers/microphones). The Pebble is a different type of device so you should be good.

  • IPhone 4 and hands free car

No me deja emparejar mi phone 4 con el manos libres de mi mitsubishi, desde hace dos cambios de sistema.
    gracias

Good question... I haven't found a "reliable" way of sending constructive(!) Feedback to those at Apple who really care. I remember the beginning days of Mac OS X, when the reply-link was even on top of the dock.
Maybe I'm just not aware of working feedback channels, I only can hope that some of Apple's people with "influence" read statements like this...

  • I upgraded my iPhone 4 software to iOS and i now get a message reading "SIM card not supported"

I upgraded my iPhone 4 software to the latest iOS version and now cannot get network coverage. I only receive a message that reads "The SIM Card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported".
anyone with ideas for a possible solution?

You have a phone that is locked to a specific carrier. If it worked with your carrier before the update that means that the phone was hacked or jailbroken. Updating it "undid" the jailbreak and left the phone locked to its original carrier. There is no way to resolve this, as there is no jailbreak for iOS 7 and no way to go back to the previous version of iOS.

  • How to transfer i phone contacts to hands free in car

Question. I phone dont offer to transer data by Bluetooth.

Once your iPhone is paired, it is up to your car's system to negotiate the transfer, not the iPhone.  The methods and capabilities for this vary by car manufacturer.  You're going to check your car's manual to see what the requirements are, and what the procedure is to transfer contacts from your iPhone.

  • IPHONE 3G Won't stay connected to bluetooth hands free on car hifi

    Hello,
I have just switched to the iphone 3G from my Nokia 8800 and the iphone 3G won't stay connected to my Pioneer head unit! It connects OK manually but the "AUTO" connection function on the Pioneer does not work with the Iphone, But it does work with the Nokia OK!!
So everytime i come back to the car it doesn't work till i go through the whole connection 5 minute procedure again!
Have factory reset the pioneer but no cigar.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Chris

I would try a reset or a restore first. Also, chances are that you paid for your phone using a credit card. Most credit cards give buyer an extra year of warranty protection. If you paid with a credit card and the purchase date is less than two years, call your credit card company and ask if they can pay for the repair.

  • BT Big Button 200 Hands-free

    Hello,
I appologise if this has been asked before..
Just got this said phone, for the big buttons and hands-free option.
I read the online guide before ordering (ebay):
"Make a call in handsfree mode
    1. Press the button and then enter the telephone number to be dialled."
    Great...
However, it seems you actually need to lift the receiver for 2 seconds, put it down, this is when the hands-free button is pressable.
Is this normal behaviour, the guild is wrong?

My father has the same phone but I have never tried the hands free option, but I willl try it when I visit next Sunday.
It may be done that way to prevent accidental operation.
I had to remove the batteries as the 1571 light kept flashing, as there is call diversion on the line, which upsets it.

    Hello there stidhambr15,
I was researching the issue you are having and recommend a couple of things. First it might be a good idea to reset the device following iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't quite get the device going again, I recommend restoring the device.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software

Might even be a good idea to turn off the phone, reseat the SIM card, and turn it back on.

Does the ipod nano 7th gen work with Belkin Blue tooth In car hands free? Customer support said it did when I bought it, but the box doesn't say it does and I dont want to open it in case I have to return it.

If the Belkin supports the A2DP (Stereo Bluetooth) profile then it will work.

    mono 8 bit 8k is 64kbps, yes. 8 bits times 8,000 = 64,000 = 64k bits/sec.
And yes I think that's a typo - there's no such thing as 'Mone' that I've ever heard of...
But you might want to check to find out if this is a mu-law non-linear format, possibly - there are several ways that 8 bit 8k wav files can be encoded, and typically phone systems don't use linear ones. If you have a log-in to Zultys' user-base system they have an FAQ there, I believe - the answer might be in that, and it won't cost $500.
