IOS and iMac unable to use iCloud Mail

I want to use iOS and iMac to enable Mail in iCloud, but I cannot because the process I started failed before it completed.  The process was able to create my iCloud account, but then failed before enabling Mail in iCloud.  Now I try to use the iCloud account I created, but the process tries to create an account rather than allow me to add an existing account.
I created the iCloud dot com email using the iCloud settings on my iPhone 5S and by attempting to enable Mail.  The process created the iCloud dot com email address, but it failed to enable Mail.  I then got the pop-up confirmations [on iPhone, iPad Mini, and iMac] that the iCloud mail address was created and I could add it to my FaceTime and Messages, but still could not enable Mail in iCloud.
I switched from my iPhone, and logged on to my iMac and tried to enable Mail in iCloud; but this also failed, because it would attempt to create the iCloud account (rather than allow me to select or use the one I had created on the iPhone) and it gave me an error that the address already exists.  But, it's registered to me (not somebody else).
If I login to manage my Apple ID I can see the email I used to create my Apple ID and I also see the iCloud.com email address I just created (both appear).
How may I now enable mail in iCloud?

I did not.  But interestingly enough I went back to the iPhone where I had started the process.  It had failed on the iPhone and continued to fail with each subsequent attempt.  Today is another day, and it is the first time I tried after your suggestion of signing out and back in to iCloud from the iMac.  Now on my phone I restarted the process, chose create, and rather than ask me what to create, it automagically pulled the correct/existing @icloud.com account.  It turned mail on in iCloud settings on the iPhone.  Then I went to the iMac and it allowed me to turn on Mail in iCloud settings in the iMac.  Then finally allowed me also on the iPad.
Perhaps your suggestion of sign out and back in did a reset in Apple's database?  But it either needed time to reset and I had tried too soon, else after the reset I had to go to the phone where the process began and failed, and try again.
In any case, it is working now.  I will believe it is a combination of signing out and in, as you suggested, and then trying on the iPhone before the other devices fell in line and started working.
Thank you @randers4.  Much appreciated!

  • Unable to use iCloud Backup on iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1

Hi, I have been unable to use iCloud Backup for several weeks on both my iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.0.1 & my iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1
iCloud Backup is set to On on both devices. It did backup once or twice, since I installed the iOS 6.0.1, then it stopped working altogether.
I hope someone can help me.

I know. In my post I said ....
"remove the all day event or change the event from all day - in whatever application on your computer that you sync the calendar from and them sync again to remove the event from the iPad calendar."
You will need to do this from your computer. If you do not use your computer to sync with iTunes, you will not be able to get around this.
However, I should have asked of this only happens when you are trying to view events in March, so maybe I misled you. I apologize. Try this now. Quit the calendar app completely in the recents tray and reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • HT4759 I want to use icloud mail on both iPhone 4s AND my pc. icloud mail on PC is mega glitchy and frustrating because my PC is ancient, I run XP, & these DO NOT MEET req's for iCloud.  Is there a email platform that will run well on both XP and iPhone?

I NEED to use icloud mail on both iPhone 4s AND my PC. I need to use both.
Trying to use icloud mail on PC is mega glitchy (STOP SCRIPT WARNINGS EVERY FEW MINUTES) and frustrating because:
      1.  my PC is ancient (but nicely refurbished/fast)
      2.  I run XP  (with both Firefox and Chrome- newest versions)
      3.  thusly, I DO NOT MEET SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for iCloud.
In my passed attempts I found that
    1. Yahoo doesn't work well on iPhone
    2. Gmail doesnt work well on iPhone.
I must be missing something... an app or... maybe a donated/ NEW FREE MAC!  (That would be sweet!  Ha.)
Is there an email platform that will run well on both XP and iPhone?
or... Please say it isn't true: I would love a Mac tablet or desktop. We have no money for a mac. SOL?   Is this iCloud apple tech only for wealthy middle class and above who can afford to have the newest and best of everything?

@Naiks, having suffered through unsuccessful synching attempts for Calendar and Contacts myself, l would suggest you try the following:
UNINSTALL iCloud control panel from your PC. Seems silly, but do it.
Go into Outlook, and look at the very top menu. Click FILE, then ACCOUNT SETTINGS, then click the popup box.
You will see a list of all your email accounts. Make sure that ONE of them has a checkmark against it. If not, select the account your want as your default, and click "set as default.
Exit out of Outlook and reboot your machine.
Now reinstall iCloud, check CALENDAR and CONTACTS, and do as instructed when prompted.
Reboot for good luck and now launch OUTLOOK. All that remains is to locate your iCloud Contacts and Calendar files, and make them your default.
IMPORTANT: Don't panic if you can't find your contacts -- they're there. Click CONTACTS and you'll see you have several available contact files. Locate the one label "iCloud" in grey type. Right-click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the Outlook Address Book tab. Check the box that says something like "Make this my default Outlook Address Book." Keep clicking "apply" and "okay" until you've exited out of the dialog box maze.
You may have to do something similar with your Calendar files. I dd not, but if you need to, do it.
Everything should now sync pretty seamlessly.
I didn't have the exact same problem as you, but my dilemma was close enough. Good luck!

    Hello mrmacjohn,
Verifying that any iCloud account that may be signed in is signed out should resolve this error.
On your Mac, open iCloud preferences, then click Sign Out.

  • IPhoto 11 (9.2.1) can't use iCloud Mail smtp server for email.

iPhoto 11 (9.2.1) can't use iCloud Mail smtp server for email.  "The email server didn't recognise username/password combination".  Both appear correct in preferences/accounts.  Mail sends and receives messages perfectly.
(This problem also occurs when trying to send from Thunderbird, however both iPhoto and Thunderbird can send perfectly well using the Gmail server).

    Hi there
I should explain that I have 5 days experience of the iMac but have had a working iCloud account with my iPad for several months.  I don't think this is an iCloud issue as such. My thought is that this is something to do with the Mail application itself and its relationship to my Apple ID etc. (Perhaps when the iMac first configured itself?)
I have deleted and manually reset both Mail and iPhone account settings for iCloud using the Apple recommended settings and I have tentatively checked that the username/password combination is as expected in Keychain but I'm too much of an Apple novice to go any further with that.
On a PC I think I would try reinstalling the Mail programme but I don't see that as an option.

  • Unable to use iCloud on my iPhone 4S

I'm unable to use iCloud on my iPhone 4S.  I click on Settings, Scroll to iCloud, Click on iCloud, and then it prompts me to enter my Apple ID and Password.  After I do I click on Sign in and it says User name or password is incorrect and I know they're not.  I try signing in with the same Apple ID and Password and I have no problem signing in.  I don't know what's going on.  Can someone please help??

You need an Internet connection to use Facetime. As not all carriers support Facetime you may need a WiFi connection.

    Hi OaksterMe,
In order to completely delete emails from your devices and free up space in iCloud, you should follow the steps in this article -

sure pretty simple.  make a backup of your current settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US
then restore device from old backup you need pics off of
    then import pics to computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
you may need to save pics to camera roll first
then restore the new backup and sync pics back to phone via itunes

I appreciate the prompt response.  Having read several threads, you can appreciate why I would be hesistant to upgrade to the Lion.  All I basically use is Office for Mac and the other basic functions such as email/calendar/address/contacts...etc. I have read horror stories about peoples stuff dissapearing into cyberspace and obvi dont want that to happen.
That's all nonsense. Most people don't post anything if they don't have any problems. People who do have problems usually have very specific reasons for them that they have caused themselves.

As Retired Engineer indicated, you will need to install Snow Leopard first.  After you install Snow Leopard, you need to go into Software Update and perform the updates.  10.6.6 will install the App Store.  You should continue to update to 10.6.8 before purchasing and installing Lion from the App Store.
Be sure your machine meets the minimum requirements.  Basically, any Mac with a Core 2 Duo processor or later and at least 2GB of RAM (but 4 is highly recommended).  If you have a first generation MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, you will not be able to upgrade to Lion.

  • When using iCloud Mail with a laptop and smartphone, how do I delete an e-mail from one without deleting it from the other?

I recently have started using iCloud for Mail on both my laptop (MacBookPro, OSX 10.8.5) and my smartphone (iPhone4, iOS7.1.1).
I understand that with iCloud mail is stored in the cloud.  Is there a way of erasing a message from either the laptop or the smartphone while leaving it on the other?  How?

    Hi jeagle7,
iCloud uses a form of IMAP for mail, meaning that by default, the mail should appear the same on any device accessing the account, and anything done to the mail (such as deleting it) should apply to all devices. If you like, you may want to make a local copy of the mail prior to deleting it; the following article may be helpful:
