  • Can I use macbook air for ios app development?

I would like to know if i can use macbook air for ios app development or macbook pro is only option?

Just to reinforce what shldr2thewheel says - be very sure what size memory you want if you get a Macbook Air. There is *no* way to change after purchase. My advice is to go for the 4GB option - especially if you want to do app development.
The internal storage (solid state drive) of the Air can be upgraded if required but it will probably be an expensive option. If you don't think the storage will be enough then maybe using a USB connected drive to hold non-essential files is an option.
As to deciding between the Air and Pro you are basically making a decision between portability (Air) and expandability/bigger screens (Pro). What is more important to you?

The MBA is so small and thin many people can't help thinking it is like a Windows netbook - an underpowered toy. It isn't. There's nothing I do on my top end iMac that I can't - and don't - do on my MBA. Of course the iMac has a faster processor, bus speed, and a discrete video card so it is much faster than my MBA. Then again, my computers spend more time waiting for me to do something than I wait for them - and this includes using Photoshop and compiling code.
If I were writing large programs - something like Word for example - I'd want a very fast processor to speed up the compile/debug/compile cycle. But for iOS development your codebase will be much smaller. Frankly I can't see that much difference between a 13" MBA and a 13" MBP for development purposes. Now a top of the line 15" MBP is a different matter with its much faster CPU and separate video card.

  • Are macbook air computers sufficient for ios app development?

Looking into learning how to build ios apps and would like to know from those experienced how much computing power is necessary for building apps.

  • Pro support for iOS app-development

Where can I find some more indept support for developing apps using Flash Professional CS5 / CS5.5.
I have been seaching the web for days now. Looking for a place where professional best-practises are shared on this topic. Without any real luck. All i ever see is the same basic tutorials on how to publish your first Hello World-app and some old basics about using cacheasbitmap and such...
Please could someone direct me to the right forum?
Only newly official information I have found so far, is focused on Flash Builder and Flex 4.5... And I'm begining to wonder if this means that app-development using Flash Professional is on it's way out already ?!
(Btw i tryed to make this discussion under Packager for iPhone-forum, but the option to post it there, didn't show up...)

    Hi,
that forum was archived and the users sort of merged into this one
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/air/development/mobile?view=discussions
...definitely not on the way out though!

  • What are the potentials of icloud in ios app development

what kind of apps can be developed using iCloud integration in cocoa touch? what functionalities does iCloud provide ?

Utilizing the cloud gives app developers a lot of potential;  makes it much easier and faster for them to design apps that have synchronized app storage across all the users iOS devices.  Ex. Games that the users progress is in sync on thier iPhone and iPad; just pick up a device and pick up where you left off.  Productivity apps where projects the user works on are sync'd between devices. Apps that share history and/or bookmark type content.  You get the idea..
Really the sky is the limit..  :)
If your looking for more API specific type information or examples, this may not be the best forum for a thorough answer.

  • IOS app development

    Hi,
I'm working on my first iOS game and should be ready within one week or so. However, reading the latest Adobe AIR SDK release I see that
[iPhone 6 Plus] Wrong screen size and dpi is returned through the runtime APIs.
My entire app is based on variables like stageWidth and stageHeight because I use box2d and I need to set the boundaries. Returning the wrong value will lead to a poor experience and my game will be rejected by apple. So is there a way to get the correct stageWidth/Height or I need to wait for a next sdk update?
    Thank you

All existing apps in the store have to work to whatever degree on iPhone 6 and 6+. For the apps I've done it seems to only affect the splash screen sequence, otherwise things are working ok.
I am sure you're going to come across several other issues before you're ready to go, and at that time use the latest SDK, and go ahead and submit. If you get rejected you haven't wasted any time, you would just resubmit when the issue is fixed. If it's accepted and then a user review comments on some iPhone 6 imperfection, by that time you may be able to submit an update with the latest SDK that fixes the issue.
Waiting now for it all to be perfect wouldn't gain you anything, except maybe the risk of a bad review.

  • IOS Certificat, iOS App Development is grayed out

In order to submit my app i need this certificat, but its grayed out. I have tried on Safari, Firefox crome, i have refreched, i have delited cokies and historic ... even tried with my login on another mac ... unfurtunatly with the same grayed out field. Not able to choose it, the same happens with the production certificat App Store and Ad Hoc
    What would be a solution?

You need to ask this in the developers forum.

  • Director, iOS and the (real) apps development cul-de-sac

    Hi there.
I was a long time Director developer and I tried D12 to give it a shot with iOS app development.
After 2.5 months of research, an app submitted to Apple (still "in review"), another in development and a 3D game in its first design I have to summarize my experience.
    1.
Developing simple apps and games seems very simple and easy.
Let's say that if the user don't have to interact with the keyboard, or use UI controls, app development is fluid.
    2.
If you have to develop something with (even) a little user interface, you get crazy.
You have to re-invent the wheel and in doing it you're doing it wrong.
I developed a simple app, an app that does only one thing, but it does it in a very good way.
I started developing this app because there is no an app that does this thing, today.
    First prototype? 4 hours.
Now I'm stuck in handling UI and UX, and I'm going mad.
There's no way to re-produce iOS controls (like radio buttons, checkboxes and fields) without appearing "cheap".
If the user have to insert something with the keyboard you get mad.
If you have the crazy idea to create a scrollable list (with selection) the performances become as slow as hell and the user responsiveness goes away.
I'm so so so sad for this.
I know Director Team is doing something great to bring us Director developers the possibility to easly port games from Shockwave to iOS.
But if you want to develop a real application (or something like that) you actually have no chances to pass Apple quality control.
    That's it.
I just wanted to share my feelings with you.
    Thanks.

Let me get this straight: I use Director since version 4, I always though that it's an incredible tool for multimedia development.
The dream was (just) using it to deliver iOS apps that can be a little better that the ones done with PhoneGap.
    But...
The fact that it's so damn hard to put an app into the iTunes App Store (try not to develop "ad hoc" but for the store) that I think Adobe is just paying a low level rate to the remaining developers, I think that thereare two left, three maybe, and they have to do everything, so they don't write manuals or notes.
Or they just develop Director in their spare time.
Whatever you're doing, I respect you. Just as much I don't respect Adobe, who's gonna charge us for this not-enough-featuring (anymore) product.
One example: if you compile your iOS app for youriPad with the "Otto.app" template there's nothing wrong, but that template is outdated since may 1, 2013, so you cannot use it to upload your app to the App Store.
I'm trying to change all values, one by one, of the .plist included, but no luck for 72 hours (something like 50 attempts), and I'm so mad at it that I'm thinking about pulling the power cable on my (quite simple) project.

  • Can the Macbook Air model MD760HN/B be used for developing iOS apps?

    Hi,
I'm planning to learn iOS Apps Development and I am planning to buy the Macbook Air Model - MD760HN/B.
My question is - Is this model fit enough to develop apps using XCode?
The retailer says the OS is Mac OS X Mavericks, there is no version written.
I am planning to develop using Swift Language so let me know if this is possible as well using the above stated Model Number.
Yes, I have created an Apple Developer Account already as an iOS Developer.
Looking forward for your valuable replies.
I hope Mac is better than Windows (using since Windows 95) - (Hate Windows 8)
    Thanks in advance.
    Samiruddin

This sounds to me like the MacBook Air mid-2013 model with a 13" display and core i5 processor built for sale in India.
Yes, this should be fine for writing Swift code.
The current Apple operating system is OS X Mavericks version 10.9.5.  If your computer comes with Mavericks installed, you can always update to the current version by opening the App Store and clicking "Updates" near the top right.

  • What is the best book on developing ios apps?

I'm a beginner looking to develop ios apps. Can someone recommend a good beginner book?

The answer really depends upon your previous development experience, if any. If you're new to programming, or don't have any experience with C, I'd start with "Learn C on the Mac" by Dave Mark. Here it is at Safari Books Online:
    http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/programming/c/9781430218098
This has nothing to do with iOS, but it will lay the foundations for learning Objective-C, for which Stephen Kochan's "Programming in Objective-C" is always highly recommended. The 3rd edition just came out recently (June 2011):
    http://techbus.safaribooksonline.com/book/programming/objective-c/9780321712172
Again, not iOS specific, but this gives you a solid foundation in the languages. I still haven't decided what is the best book for iOS app development in particular, but my favorite so far is Craig Hockenberry's "iPhone App Development: The Missing Manual":
    http://my.safaribooksonline.com/9780596809997?portal=oreilly&cid=orm-cat-readnow -9780596809997
Hockenberry's book might be all you need if you have some C and/or Objective-C experience. And it's a good guide, in any case, in that it covers iPhone app development from start to finish, including such things as signing up for a develper account, setting up your iPhone so you can test your apps on it, and submitting your apps to the app store.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! I kinda guessed so, but it's not easy to find out exactly what platforms make good development boxes... I'll keep looking anyway, and if I can find a formal (Apple Blessed) document, I'll try and post it here.
    Thanks again.
