IOS devices aren't recognized by iTunes

I just upgraded my late 2008 model iMac to Snow Leopard. After the upgrade, iTunes will not recognize our 1st gen iPod touches on either user of the computer. When I connect the iPod, iPhoto still opens, but iTunes doesn't recognize that anything is connected. Is this a known issue? Help!

I just did a reset and that fixed it. You know how to do a reset? Hold the home and off buttons down at the same time unitl it goes off and then comes back on again. Then let them go. Try it. It worked for me.

As Jim states, that procedure deletes the app and its associated documents from the device itself. At next sync, the deletion should propagate and get rid of the backup on iTunes as well.
If not, you can also manually delete that backup. Go into iTunes on the computer you sync the iPad with. If needed, select Show Sidebar in the View menu. Choose Apps under Library in the sidebar. Click on the All tab in the middle of the window. Scroll about till you locate the offending app amongst the bunch of icons. Right-click or Control-click on it and choose Delete from the popup menu. If the app is gone already on the device, there should be no warnings. You should delete from the device first and sync, so this manual step becomes unnecessary.

I've trolled the discussion forums but to no avail. Airplay was working last night on my iPhone and iPad, but it no longer is recognized: I don't have the AirPlay icon in the doc or in the volume controls within the apps that it used to appear in. It is recognized by my MacMini and MacBook Pro within iTunes.
I haven't changed any settings. I reset all my devices, including my AirPort Express. Also, all software and firmware are up to date.

I finally got the iOS devices to work. I had to power them down and restart them several times, but it worked. This seems to be an issue that will hopefully be resolved with an iOS update in the near future.

When I upgraded this phone from Sprint, the sync was stopped by the tech and now I cannot enable wi-fi sync because the Sync now is grayed out. See image. SYNC BUTTON does not work.

What should I do?

It's likely that the first couple of steps aren't going to solve the problem. You're going to need to follow the steps under "Verify that the Apple Mobile USB Driver is Installed." You'll just need to re-install it.

TS3540 iTunes 11.0.4 (62) Fails to recognize iOS devices - Fall back to previous iTunes

Sometimes Apple releases an application that has a serious flaw in it like the new iTunes 11.0.4 (62) which is not recognizing iOS devices. There are over 56,000 users who have reported this in many threads on the Apple discussion support forum.
There needs to be an easy way in the MacOS (and iOS) to fall back to the previous revision of the software. Otherwise we can't trust the automatic updater which means we can use auto-update which means when new software comes out we'll wait for months to see if problems are reported before daring to upgrade which divides the Apple ecosystem and increases support loads on Apple which costs Apple's investor's money. All bad things.
I should be able to simply REVERT to the previous version of iTunes which worked perfectly fine.

This seems to have fixed the issue: on your desktop, hold down the [OPT] key and click on "Go" in the menu bar; holding down the [OPT] click on Library, find Preferences, and then delete all the files that start with "com.apple.itunes.XXXX.plist" where the "XXX" is whatever other things may exist - as long as they end in "plist". From my experience, preference files are rebuilt by the system after the next restart, so you have very little worry of losing any important data; the worst that could happen )and NOT in this instance, but for other plist files) is that you may have to reset the application "preferences" again when you next start it up, to act or appear in a "preferred" customized way for you.
Once you delete the .plist files, empty the Trash, and either log out or restart the computer. Once you're back up and operational, start iTunes and your iDevices should reappear in the sidebar (if that's open) and/or at the top of the screen (if that view is enabled).

Movies Purchased on iTunes via iOS Devices not showing up in iTunes on my MacBook Pro

I have some 40 movies that I have purchased through iTunes on my iPhone. They all show up on my iOS devices as well as my Apple TV but only 8 of them show up on iTunes on my MacBook Pro. I have read threads from other users that found a resolution to their problem by "unhiding" the movies through iTunes in the Cloud but my account only shows Manage Devices & iTunes Match, so that didn't help unfortunately. I am runing the latest version of Mountain Lion and iTunes and I have gone to "Check for Available Downloads" but a window just pops up saying "All purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID". Does anyone have any ideas or guidance on what I could or should do?

Go to the iTunes Store > Purchases, and then you should be able to see your purchases. Click the cloud icons to download your purchases. Also go to iTunes Preferences, go to the Store tab and make sure that Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases is checked.

IOS devices do not appear in iTunes 11

Hello -
I have been one of those who have resisted the new itunes 11 since release. However, I recently changed my Mountain Lion installer from the original 10.8 to 10.8.3 that Apple provides - and during a recent system reinstall, wound up with itunes 11 by default. Instead of reverting to the previous version like I did after the original 11 release, I've been trying to live with 11...
However, I cannot get 11 to display my iOS devices - iphone 5, latest iPad. I have all the current updates on the iOS devices, iTunes, and OS. I've tried rebotting the devices, the computer, reinstalling iTunes. I've tried every USB port and cable - no success.
The devices show up in everything else - iPhoto, Image capture, etc - just not in iTunes.
Suggestions???

You may have the "Devices" list hidden. Have you hovered with the mouse to the right of the caption "Devices" in the sidebar, until you see the hidden text button "Sow" or "Hide"? Press "Show" - does that reveal your devices?

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

When I plug in my iPhone 4 with ios 4.0, it is not recognized by the new iTunes 10.3.
When I plug it in, it works like a charger, it charges, but its not recognized.
What should I do?

Update to the current iOS. Why wouldn't you? If part of you system is current, and part is out of date, there is always a chance of incompatibility.

IPOD device isn't recognized by ITunes

Anyone else having this problem? I've talked to Microsoft, I've talked to HP, I've talked to Apple, all to no avail. No one seems to be able to fix my problem.
It looks like the computer is recognizing the IPOD, but nothing in ITunes. I also tried the IPOD with Rhapsody, and Windows Media Player and they did not appear to recoginze the IPOD either.
Apple's last idea is that maybe the problem is with the IPOD itself, not with the computer.
Thay are going to take the IPOD back and get me another one.

Have exact same problem. Spoken w/apple 3 times after resetting ipod and removing and reinstalling itunes for 5th time. It showa connected to computer and shows up as an external drive. But, itunes doesn't recognize at all. I even downloaded itunes v6.0.5 thinking that was the problem. Still doesn't work. Oddly enough, it syncs fine with my neighbors computer and itunes software? Go figure! I've been sent box to send back ipod for repair.

Playlists missing from iOS device after signing out from iTunes Match

Hi, everyone!
I've just signing up to iTunes Match service and after I went Settings > iTunes and App Stores menu and disabling iTunes Match, all of my iOS playlists synced from computer are missing, just the tracks I've wirely synced from my Mac computer are there.
Can anyone have a tip to solve this? I'm kind of disappointed with the service because musics in the cloud take long time to stream to my iOS.

I have found that scrolling through the album list (past albums without art) triggers the progress wheel next to the wifi symbol. You can scroll quickly through the whole collection and then wait! Artwork will appear gradually...
However, repeat visits to the Music App might initially show no artwork again, but it might spontaneously appear more quickly this time. The bad news is that the whole Music App is now sluggish as ****...
