IOS Devices Stopped Syncing suddenly

Very strange - been working fine all year. Macbook Pro (new in August), iPad 3 (new in October), iPhone 4s. Using iCloud to keep them all syncing. All of a sudden, syncing to the ios devices has stopped. Event FROM the ios device goes to the Macbook and iCloud.com. All events from Macbook show up on icloud.com. No new software or updates have occured since this stopped suddenly.
Troubleshoot steps;
- power cycled each device
- Turned off icloud on ios devices and power cycled.
- turned off calendars on ios device and restarted
- Forced sync on each ios device
- Verified account settings and credit card for icloud were up to date.
Searched forums for useful info - found a number of people with the same or similar problem with no resolution.
One person suggests that icloud servers have glitches periodically. I don't know if that's verified or not, but I depend on this for work and now that it's stopped for no apparent reason, I'm in trouble.
Any thoughts on additional steps I can try? Or anyone know if an Apple issue exists?
Thanks

First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic  test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be related to the problem.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: In each of two steps, you copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is copy; paste; paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual.
Below are instructions to enter UNIX shell commands. They do nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to think carefully before running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. Step 1 should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PB=/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy; PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && printf '\n%s:\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; PF () { o=$($PB -c Print "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'); PR "$1"; }; PN () { [[ $o -eq 0 ]] || printf "\n%s: %s\n" "$1" $o; };{ system_profiler SPSoftwareDataType | sed '8!d;s/^ *//'; o=$(system_profiler SPDiagnosticsDataType | sed '5,6!d'); fgrep -q P <<< "$o" && o=; PR "POST"; o=$(( $(vm_stat | awk '/Pageo/{sub("\\.",""); print $2}')/256 )); [[ $o -gt 1024 ]] && printf "\nPageouts: %s MiB\n" $o; o=$(kextstat -kl | grep -v com\\.apple | cut -c53- | cut -d\< -f1); PR "Loaded extrinsic kernel extensions"; o=$(launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)|\.[0-9]+$/{print $3}'); PR "Loaded extrinsic user agents"; o=$(launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES); PR "Inserted libraries"; o=$(crontab -l); PR "User cron tasks"; o=$(cat /e*/lau*); PR "Global launchd configuration"; o=$(cat ~/.lau*); PR "Per-user launchd configuration"; PF "Global login items" /L*/P*/loginw* Path; PF "Per-user login items" L*/P*/*loginit* Name; PF "Safari extensions" L*/Saf*/*/E*.plist Bundle | sed 's/\..*$//;s/-[1-9]$//'; o=$(find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) | wc -l); PN "Restricted user files"; cd; o=$(find -L /S*/L*/E* {,/}L*/{A*d,Compon,Ex,In,Keyb,Mail/Bu,P*P,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo}* -type d -name Contents -prune | while read d; do ID=$($PB -c 'Print :CFBundleIdentifier' "$d/Info.plist"); ID=${ID:-No bundle ID}; egrep -qv "^com\.apple\.[^x]|Accusys|ArcMSR|ATTO|HDPro|HighPoint|driver\.stex|hp-fax|JMicron|microsoft\.MDI|print|SoftRAID" <<< $ID && printf '%s\n\t(%s)\n' "${d%/Contents}" "$ID"; done); PR "Extrinsic loadable bundles"; o=$(find /u*/{,*/}lib -type f -exec sh -c 'file -b "$1" | grep -qw shared && ! codesign -v "$1"' {} {} \; -print); PR "Unsigned shared libraries"; o=$(system_profiler SPFontsDataType | egrep "Valid: N|Duplicate: Y" | wc -l); PN "Font problems"; for d in {,/}L*/{La,Priv,Sta}*; do o=$(ls -A "$d"); PR "$d"; done; } 2> /dev/null | pbcopy; echo $'\nStep 1 done'
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "Step 1 done" to appear below what you entered. The output of the command will be automatically copied to the Clipboard. Paste into a reply to this message. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
Remember that you must be logged in as an administrator for this step. Do as in Step 1 with this line:
    PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && printf '\n%s:\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; { o=$(sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix\.cron)|org\.(amav|apac|calendarse|cups|dove|isc|ntp|post[fg]|x)/{print $3}'); PR "Loaded extrinsic daemons"; o=$(sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook); PR "Login hook"; o=$(sudo crontab -l); PR "Root cron tasks"; o=$(syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU |hfs: Ru|I/O e|find tok|n Cause: -|NVDA\(|pagin|timed? ?o' | tail -n25 | awk '/:/{$4=""; print}'); PR "Log check"; } 2>&- | pbcopy; echo $'\nStep 2 done'
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: Step 2 might not produce any output, in which case the Clipboard will be empty.
    You can then quit Terminal.
To prevent confusion, I'll repeat: When you type your password in the Terminal window, you won't see what you're typing.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, set one before taking Step 2. If that’s not possible, skip the step.
Important: If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output of these commands, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
Remember, Steps 1 and 2 are all copy-and-paste — type only your password. Also remember to post the output.

I have the same bluetooth controller (0cf3:3005, Atheros AR3011) on my laptop (ASUS K53SV) and have the exact same problem. Bluetooth works for a while until tx errors start showing up:
    [24952.326871] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c1a tx timeout
    [24954.332842] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c52 tx timeout
    [24956.338826] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c24 tx timeout
    [24958.344882] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0405 tx timeout
    [24993.806536] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
    [25033.899824] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
    [25048.548327] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c14 tx timeout
    [25051.014213] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0c14 tx timeout
    [25075.805968] Bluetooth: hci0 command 0x0408 tx timeout
Resetting the bluetooth device works sometimes but not always. There is always a chance that the device will just become unresponsive to any kinds of commands:
    # hciconfig hci0 reset
Can't init device hci0: Connection timed out (110)
I've tried various methods (block/unblock them with rfkill, `rmmod btusb` & `modprobe btusb`, etc) but none works after the device is "dead". The only way to recover seems to be powering off the laptop (simply rebooting doesn't fix the problem).

  • How to re-download the ringtone into iOS device without sync

    Dear Sir/Madam
I recently download the ringtone in itune store and I find out that only one of my iOS device can able to change into the tones I have download while the other one not. Is there anything I can do or any place I can check to enable the download ? Please help me out !!!
    Sincerly,
    Justin P.

Ringtones are a one-time only download from the store. You will need to connect the device that you downloaded it on to your computer's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy it over to the Tones part of your computer's iTunes library and you can then sync it to your other device(s).

  • IOS devices not syncing with iCloud

iCloud is active on both my iTouch and iPad. Photos are appearing on both devices, fine. I have access to my iCloud account on my Windows PC and my documents are showing in iWork on there. However, my devices are not syncing with documents etc. I have spreadsheets in Numbers on my iPad, but the iTouch is not showing them. If I try to access my iCloud account through Safari on iPad, it's not taking me to the log in page, but asking me to set up iCloud. Any ideas anyone, or am I being a bit stupid :-)

Hi. Thanks for the post. I understand now about the iCloud.com issue. However, I'm still not syncing my documents etc from Numbers, Pages etc that I've created on the iPad. The apps are on my iTouch, but without the documents I have on my iPad. I don't understand why because my photos are streaming between devices no problem. The docs are also showing in iWork when I log into my iCloud account on my PC. Help! :-)

  • Devices stop syncing. Devices List.

I have 4 desktop Mozilla installations with Sync enabled. For some reason one of them (XP) is not updating the information while two of them (W7) are working properly.
Is there any way to list the devices associated with the Sync service?
Is there a way to know the last time they did sync?
Is there a way to have more information beyond setting up the service?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi!
The team is working on it, so your account would show all these information, and much more, in the near future.
For the moment, I'll ask you to try and manually sync your XP installation in order to check if everything is configured properly. Sometimes Sync takes a little longer than expected to sync the updates. If the manual sync doesn't work, perhaps something isn't configured properly in this installation.
Remember that in order to manually trigger Firefox Sync manually you would need to click on "Sync Now" on the Tools section of the menu.

  • ITunes Wi-Fi Sync - Multiple iOS Devices

    Hello,
I currently use an Xsere running iTunes to keep all my iOS Devices in sync, however, there are other individuals in my family who would like to have all of their content purchased through iTunes stored for backup and keep an exncrypted backup file on the Xserve rather than iCloud. I know it is easy to allow them to backup or Wi-Fi, but if I had a seperate playlist for each user with the unprotected contnet from their iTunes account in a folder, is there a way when they purchase a new item on their iDevice to have it go back into that playlist automatically? I know when new content is purchased it puts it back into the "Purchased" playlist, but is there a way for it to go to a dedicated playlist for each iOS Device?
    Thanks!

Plug your phone into your computer, and in iTunes make sure the "Sync with this phone over Wi-Fi" box is checked.

  • Text Shortcuts on Mac not syncing with iOS Devices

It appears that my iOS devices are syncing text shortcuts, because when I add/remove one from one device, it's replicated on the other devices.
However, text shortcut changes made on my Mac ( Macbook Air, latest Mavericks version ) are not replicated to the iOS devices, and vice-versa.  It's like my iPad and iPhone have decided to share with each other , and ignore my Mac.
I tried deleting the com~apple~Textinput folder, but that did not have any effect. I also tried turning iCloud off and on on my Mac, and that did not help, either.
Ideas on how to fix this?

I figured it out, I turned off Document syncing on all devices, then deleted the ~Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput folder instead of the subfolders that I deleted the first time, Then  I turned document syncing back on (warning , all text shortcuts are gone! ) on my Mac, and then on my iOS devices.
It took a few minutes for my devices to catchup, but they all went to zero text shortcuts, and I was able to create a new text shortcut on each device and have it replicate to the other devices.
While this fixed my problem, it's a good idea to back up your text shortcuts to another program( evernote? ) in case you need to do what I just did to fix a syncing issue.

  • TS3989 Photo Stream won't upload to iOS devices

My Photo Stream has 999 photo's currently showing in iPhoto, but my iOS devices stop uploading at 195 photos.  Is there a way to refresh the uploading process without having to turn off/on Photo Stream in the settings?

Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • All of our iOS devices are displaying the message that they can't connect to the Internet.  All show good wifi connections.  Our Macs all connect to the internet just fine suggesting that the network is good.  I'm stumped.

Airport Utility on the Macs show good internet signals but on our two iPads and my iPhone 5 there are no indications of internet connectivity.  One of the iPads is running iOS 7 but the other is still running iOS 6.  The iPhone 5 is updated to iOS 7.
Is there a setting switch that if set incorrectly would create this problem?  Like I said before, all the iOS devices stopped internet connectivity at the same time.
Update:  Well while I was typing this I was called away to help get people to bed etc.  And when I got back I tried all four iOS devices and, now, they all connect to the internet.  I don't understand it.  Two iPhones, different iOS versions, and two iPads, different generations and also different iOS versions, all decided that they would disconnect themselves from the internet but stay connected to the wifi network.  Somebody must have an explanation for what just happened.  Remember it isn't the router because the Macs all had uninterrupted internet connections.  Weird!

I used to have a satellite connection to the internet. When ever the power went off I was told to turn on the devices in a specific order for them to work properly.
Try shutting off every device including all iPads, iPhones, computer, Wi-Fi router and Satellite modem. Then turn them on one at a time in the order listed below. Be sure to wait until each device completes its start up routine before starting up the next item. When my satellite modem was restarted it often had to download an update. The time this took varied with the update. So be sure the Satellite modem is up and connected to the Satellite before going to the next device.
    1. Satellite Modem.
    2. Wi-Fi Router
    3. Your computer. Check to see that your computer connects to the internet.
    4. iPad or iPhone and remaining devices one at a time.

  • How to prevent itunes from connecting to my IOS devices over wifi

I have a MBP retina that is set to sync  (over wifi) with the iOS devices for myself and my wife: 2 ipads, 1 ipad mini and 2 iphones.
When I am launch iTunes in my other Mac - Macbook Air (mid 2010, 13inch, OS X 10.8.2), it will also start to connect the iOS devices - even though I am not using it to sync with my iOS devices.
How to prevent iTunes in my MBA from connecting to all the iOS devices in my house?
    Thanks.

I configured all my iOS devices to sync with my MBP Retina (over wifi) - but the problem is that when I am using my MBA, the devices will also automatically connect to the MBA Itunes over wifi when I launch iTunes in the MBA.
Is there any way to prevent auto connection to the MBA?

  • Everytime i connect my iPhone to my laptop itunes will say "This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device" is there anything i can do to stop this?

When i connect my iPhone to my laptop it will only come up with the option to restore from backup, this has happened 3 times tonight
    Can anyone help?

The error message you're seeing is likely the other way around -- i.e. something like "This iPhone has previously been synced with a different computer".   There's no problem syncing multiple iOS devices to the same computer.
However, the reverse is not true for the iPhone --  you cannot connect an iPhone to another computer without it being erased, even if you manually manage music and video.  So, it sounds like you've been syncing your iPhone to a different computer?
Also, 5.1 (not 5.0.1) is the latest iOS.

  • HT204053 Naive question I know but here goes. One apple ID, multiple apple IOS devices (touch/pad/phone). Books purchased via Kindle sync to ALL devices via iCloud. How can I stop this? I want to separate each of the family's reading prefernces from the d

    Naive question but here goes.
As a family we have one Apple ID. All devices are synced via my PC and backed up to it rather than to iCloud.
Books purchased via Kindle App appear on all the devices within the "cloud" option. How do I separate each reader's prefernce to their own device? I want to make sure that the younger one's dont have access to anything unsuitable.
    Thanks.

You can have one AppleID for your purchases so that all teh devices can use all the apps without having to buy them again, and at the same time, have different iCloud accounts for each user so that their content is not intermingled with everyone else's.  You can even go so far as to have your iCloud Account enabled for "Find my iPhone" for each of the other devices allowing you to keep track of where tehy are when they get misplaced.
If you need/want, you can share iCloud Calendars between different iCloud accounts as well.  This is exactly what my wife & I have done.  We share calendars so I know when she has classes or dog competitions, and she can see my work schedule so she knows what nights I have to be in late, etc.

  • ITunes crashed during transfer purchases now says This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device

The problem that have started when I was going to sync my iPhone 4 with current iTunes running on 64bit Windows 7.
I started iTunes and plugged in my iPhone.
All looked good and the iPhone came up as the device as it should have.
Next I wanted to transfer purchases prior to syncing so I started the Transfer Purchases process.
iTunes stopped working during the Transfer Purchases process
Now when I plug in my iPhone iTunes takes me to the “setup your iPhone” screen and displays “This computer has previously been synced with an iPhone or another iOS device” and only allows me to restore and old backup or setup as new.
Obviously some files were not closed properly when iTunes crashed during the transfer purchases process, how can I cleanup iTunes so that it will allow me to backup and sync my phone.
I am a software developer and am sure that a fix is not in the menu options   What I am saying is that I can easily remove or edit corrupt files to get it working.
    Thanks, Mike

iTunes has stopped syncing my iPhone and iPad.  Now when I plug either of them in I get the message in the subject line.
As a result it offers me the change to set up as a new iPhone or restore from a backup.
The closest I can get to explaining how it's got itself confused is that I had some kind of network issue on the computer, and I got a warning message on my iMac telling me that there was another device on the network called iMac, so it had renamed itself iMac (2).  (There was no either iMac - I assume that on reboot somehow the network de-registration hadn't worked properly).  I changed the name back to iMac and rebooted and everything else seems fine (including online backups that are done against the named computer).  Not sure if this has anything to do with my sync problem or not - but it's the only oddity I can think of.
Any suggestions about how to get iTunes to allow the sync again with the iPhone and iPad that it was quite happily syncing with until recently?
