IOS has suddenly decided to download hundreds of messages

It's just streaming downloading messages going back into last summer in groups of 250 messages. Have no idea what it's doing or why. They all seem to be from a GoDaddy POP account. I have 489 unread messages, and it's just started another 250 batch. Anybody know what's going on with the OS and how to stop it before it fills my phone?

SSo what changed today that the photo suddenly decided it needed to download these messages again. Why doesn't a message deleted in the iPhone immeduately reappear in the iPhone or reappear 10 minutes later? Why were they gone one day and then reappeared the next? The behavior yesterday was different from the behavior today. Yesterday I would delete a message from the inbox and it would go to the trash. It didn't redownload. Why today did it decide it suddenly needed to redownload a thousand messages? What changed? The date?

I have just realised what has caused the problem.
Yesterday I fitted an additional Homeplug with built in wireless N adapter ( I alreday have another type fitted from my main router position) The wireless system to my ipad is obviously "confused" . Having now removed the second homeplug and reset my ipad all is now ok

Mail tries endlessly to download hundreds of messages

My mobile.me (mac.com) mail account will no longer successfully download new mail to my laptop; it claims to be downloading hundreds of messages (whereas the real number, as shown when I get my mail online at mac.com, is about 40) at download speeds of 1 k or less per second. The download proceeds to nearly the end then hangs up on a message and just spins its wheels. Cannot quit Mail, have to force quit, and when I re-open it the same thing occurs with a different number of supposed messages.
Sometimes the number of messages increases by several hundred during the attempted downloading.
None of the allegedly downloaded messages appears in my (laptop) inbox, nothing new there since yesterday. The "real" mail shows up in my online mailbox at mobileme.
The system continues to run ok, other programs are ok.

Mail decides to download all my messages again

Can anyone tell me why mail all of a sudden decides it wants to download all my mail messages again from the server even though I have already downloaded them once. I have several macs and want to download the messages on all machines but not repeated on the same machine. I have mail to delete from the server after 1 week.

It looks like Mail is failing to remove messages from the server according to your settings and/or losing track of which messages have already been downloaded, thus downloading them again. Did you change those settings recently?
Try to remove from the server all the messages that have already been downloaded by clicking the Remove now button in Preferences > Accounts > Advanced -- check for new mail first, just in case there is something amiss and that function doesn’t work as expected.
If Remove now fails to remove the messages from the server, you may try to do so manually using the Account Info window. In order to use that feature, choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window. You may also try to remove the messages from the server by other means, such as webmail, if the account allows it.

My computer has suddenly decided that it won't use firefox anymore but will internet explorer is this a common problem

The problem started yesterday for unknown reasons. I have connectivity can get to the internet via internet explorer which by the way I dont remember keeping a copy on this harddrive. Any help is appreciated.

Sorry you are having problems. I am not sure why you decided to blame Firerfox for this problem.
If you pay for and install RealPlayer why do you blame Firefox when you need to uninstall it to play video ? Why not blame RealPlayer, FlashPlayer, or even another browser!
This is a known issue and developers from Firefox, Flash and Realplayer have been involved with this for a few weeks. There have been a few changes in that time but no full solution that suits everyone is available, or likely in the immediate future AFAIK.
I suspect your problem is due to the fact that FlashPlayer 11.3 introduced a security feature known as ''protected mode''. (Flash 11.3 may also have other issues with Firefox) RealPlayer (certainly the versions current when Flash11.3 was released) has problems with this. Real player is or was causing problems with use of Flash to view videos on Firefox with Flash 11.3.
Note FlashPlayer will be installed on the Operating System as a plugin, and may be used by more than one browser (although it needs different software for IE).
Downgrade Flash to 10.3 then if you still have problems post back, confirm the Flash Player version you have now,and the RealPlayer version.
Note
* if you use the Adobe uninstaller you may need to reinstall FlashPlayer on IE
* take care not to follow advice from plugincheck FlashPlayer etc to upgrade to the latest version, until this issue is resolved.
* this is a temporary solution, you should upgrade again once this is resolved.

An external hard drive has suddenly decided to show all filenames in Kanji!

After installing NTFS driver by Paragon, all filenames now appear as if in Kanji (Japanese characters) !
Any idea how to correct this ?

(Paragon support is hard to find!)
The trouble is that Paragon do not identify the Intel hardware as a minimum requirement and version 9.0 of their software worked fine for the past 18 months on my machine, it was only when I had to reinstall it, I used version 9.5 and got the problem.
I will now see if I can find a download for version 9.0 somewhere.

TS1398 My iphone 5 has suddenly decided it wont connect to wi fi network,

I've had this issue a couple of time before but usually switching it off an on again fixes it, this time it still wont connect.
Any ideas how to fix it, ive tried turning router on and off, other people with the same phone and ios can connect but i cant.

Try first, Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
If no joy, try
Settings > Wi-Fi > select you wi-fi SSID > Forget this Network.
Now do manually key in your Wi-Fi SSID and password. (Do not use the automatic wi-fi list)

Aperture has suddenly decided to open whenever I plug in my iPhone

I have checked every preference I can find in iTunes, Aperture and System Preferences but nothing seems to apply. How do I stop this zombie behavior?

It is the setting "Import" -> "When a camera connected is, open"
Your iPhone is a camera, and when it contains pictures, Aperture will open. Set this to "No Application", then Aperture will not launch.
And make sure, that you check "open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" in the Devices tab of iTunes, if you want to sync it with iTunes (unless you do not want to sync with that computer!).

Safari has suddenly quit several times with no message or indication of report to Apple. No other applications are affected.

While on my cellphone sitting in front of my computer (inactive but on), no keyboard or mouse activity, Safari just disappears.

I came back to the forum because Safari just quit again, this time while I had stepped away for some coffee. Never got an email saying anyone had responded to my question.
Here is the initial EtreCheck report. Next I will run AdwareMedic and then remove the incompatible startup items. If problem persists after that, will run EtreCheck again and republish here.
Notes:
I'm on the road, so Time Machine has not backed up lately.
The battery message is interesting, but probably unrelated (since only Safari is affected).

Time Capsule has suddenly gone "Read Only"

My Time Capsule has suddenly decided to stop backing up from my iMac, however the MacBook Pro still works fine with it. I get a message that it is now "Read only" - trying to reselect the drive has no effect.
Any ideas?

I've just had the same experience, suddenly discovering that my Time Machine volume on my external hard disk had become a read only volume.
I believe this discovery has something to do with the manner in which my external hard disk was recently shut down by my UPS backup master control mechanism. As a result of this inappropriate shut down, my Time Machine volume somehow became unmounted. That volume's icon remained on my desktop so the unmounting was a bit deceptive in that the volume appeared to remain mounted; that is, icon visible.
Not realizing this unmounting problem at first, I used Disk Utilities to discover whatever I might by repairing permissions and verifying that Time Machine volume. I didn't discover any untoward problems that way but I did notice from the Disk Utilities window that my Time Machine volume had somehow become unmounted.
Now the funny thing was that the Disk Utilities icon for mounting/unmounting a selected volume appeared to be stuck in the unmount option even though the wording showing at the bottom of the Disk Utilities window clearly showed that my volume was already unmounted. (Apparently Disk Utilities can become conflicted.)
So, I simply clicked on that unmount icon. My Time Machine volume then disappeared from my desk top as expected. Next, I clicked on the newly named mount icon and my Time Machine volume icon reappeared on my desktop as expected.
Then I used my Time Machine menu to prompt a back up now. Everything is now working fine once more.
If you're having sudden read only Time Machine volume issues, try the above approach. You might like it. (Let us know of your results, too.)

They would only be where you put them. What program did you use to import them? Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all. You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight. Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A." The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC. Do NOT use an iPhone charger. Do NOT use an iPod charger. Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear). An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem. I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.

For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

I omitted to say that it only occurs when the screen is locked - if I'm looking at something on my phone when an sms or email arrives, the phone 'notifies' me with a sound but doesnt do it when its screen is locked. Email messages and sms's (texts) still arrive but I get no sound to tell me they have.
The MUTE swith is in the correct place and I have tried resetting the phone with the Home and Sleep buttons several times, still to no avail.
I have noticed on the forums that many people are suffering or have suffered the same problem but Apple are never forthcoming, of course,
