IOS Issues w/ Restoring a Backup

So, I was switching two iPhone 4's.... one iPhone had been upgraded to iOS 6.1.2 and I made a backup one one computer through iTunes. The other iPhone was still on 6.1.1 and I made a backup . I didn't think it would be an issue...
When I switched the phone numbers succesfully through Verizon, I began restoring the iPhones with the backups. The iPhone on iOS 6.1.1 asked me to upgrade I believe... somehow iOS 6.1.2 got downloaded before the backup was able to be restored.
So... The backup made with 6.1.2 worked beautifully, no issues, but the backup made with 6.1.1 is not working. It says "iTunes cannot restore the iPhone _____ because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored."
So if I can see this correctly: A backup made through iOS 6.1.1 cannot be restored to an iPhone with iOS 6.1.2? If indeed correct, what the heck can I do to restore it somehow? Is there a way?

Okay, I was mistaken. iOS 6.1.1 was only for the iPhone 4S so I suppose I had 6.1.

  • After iOS 8 upgrade restore from backup not working

    Hi,
yesterday I've upgraded to iOS8. After three tries it worked.
But now I'm not able to restore my iPhone5 from Backup. It starts restoring. But the when it's done I've receive the error message without an error nr.
"itunes could not restore the iphone because an error occurred"
    Thats it
I've rewetted the iphone, tried on another computer to restore the backup, tried a different internet connection. Nothing. Everywhere the same issue. I've also tried to use a half year old backup just for fun. But the same issue.
I've disconnected other USB devices. No chance
Does anybody has a useful idea?
    Thanks.

  • Major issue with restoring to backup. Please help!!

So I pluged my iPhone 4 into my Mac mini just to keep things all synced up. I did things the same way that I have done countless other times. But when I ejected my iPhone I found that the address book was all screwed up.  Most of the numbers were gone although maybe 10% remained (and a random 10% too, not the newest or oldest 10%). I toyed around with it and couldn't figure out the issue so I just decided to restore from old backup.  But when I clicked this the iPhone sits there for a good 30 min before I get the message:
iTunes could not back up iphone because the backup could not be saved on the computer.
Now I know the recent backup is on there becuase it comes up as an option. And in my recent calls list there are the contact names but those names mostly are not saved under my contacts (wierd!).
I also have selected the option to replace the phone contact list with the address book from my computer (because the computer address book was uneffected), and it doesn't fully sync. I still only have the 10% of the contact list.
Im not happy right now and dont know what to do. PLease help!!!
    THANKS!

I have tried that and more weird stuff happened. Calender didnt sync. Notes did. Also only kept that weird 10% of my contacts. Transfered zero pictures over and all my settings were completely reset.
This is making me really not happy

  • Updating iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and restore from backup - losing contacts again and again

    Hi there,
I updatet today my iPhone to iOS 6. Before that I made a new backup (and have old ones too).
Everytime when I restore it now from a backup, the contacts are again there but then after hours, from one moment to another, the contacts are gone.
Some contacts are still there, I think that a really old ones.
I don't use the iCloud, I disabled iCloud every time in the settings and have no WiFi connection at home. Otherwise everytime when I must activate the iPhone after restoring, i do not activate the iCloud. I know iOS 6 wish this in activation process but I don't want to use the iCloud.
I'm ****** of because of that, tomorrow I will travel to Bremen (Germany) and I need my iPhone and of course my contacts.
Any idea what is goining on?
Sorry for my bad english, I hope somebody can help.

What were you syncing your contacts with? If you were not syncing them to a contact manager or cloud service as intended, you may have to purchase 3rd party software to try and extract what informaion there is from the backup.

  • [BPC 7.0 SP3] Issue to restore a backup using the server manager

    Hello,
I'm faced with a contraignant issue. I'm trying to restore a previous back up done with the server manager but I get the following error message at the "fileDB" step :
"Cannot find the Appset or cannot copy files" with a red cross "FileDB : Fail
I checked the fileDB folder, no files in use by another process.
I also tried to run a full optimize before running a new back-up, but the restore still failled.
Has someone already been faced with this problem ?
    Kind regards,
    Lionel

Thank you Petar for this reply.
In the file DB I have just a temp file in each subfolder related to the applications, so yes it empty.
So, I understand that you suggest to use the FileDB of the apshell in place of the second's, right ?
On the other hand, I'm not sure to understand well when you talk about "blank copy". Do you mean I just have to create an empty folder and make a zip archive ?
If so, do I have to create the subfolders and the temp files before making the archive ?
Besides, what is the usefulness of these temp files located in each subfolders ?
Thank you again for your very useful help.

  • TS3682 Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.   - How?!!

Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.   - How?!!

iOS: Unable to restore from backup of a newer device
    Symptoms
When restoring an iOS backup to a iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that is not using the latest version of iOS, you may see the following behavior:
You cannot see or select the most recent backup from the list of available backups in iTunes or iCloud.
iTunes displays the alert "The backup [name] cannot be restored to this [iOS device] because the software on the [iOS device] is too old."
iTunes displays the alert "No backups available."
    Resolution
Update your device to the latest version of iOS to be able to restore the backup.
Basically I've done this but then how do I restore?

  • Cant restore icloud backup

I lost my old iphone 4s and got a warranty replacement iphone 4s. However when I tried to restore a recent backup I made to the cloud it said that I could not do it because the old backup was on an older ios and the new phone was on a new ios. Is there any way that I can somehow restore this backup? Also I don't have any backups to itunes.

You must have read the error message incorrectly.  You can always restore a backup to a device running a newer version of iOS than the device that was backed up.  If your replacement phone is running the same or newer version of iOS as your old phone, you can restore the backup as explained here: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.  If it isn't, update it to the latest iOS and then restore the backup.

  • After restoring from backup, iPad hangs after sliding to unlock-I have to reset every time to get it to work--Any fix?

I have a first generation iPad.
After having crashing issues I restored from backup.
Since restore, whenever I slide to unlock, it hangs for few minutes.  Then I get a pictrue of the spinning circle but is doesn't spin---just hangs there--frozen.
I have to reset the iPad to get it to function every time (holding down the home button/on-off button).
Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?

Seems to have something to do with the passcode.  I turned the passcode off and now there are no issues.

I was able to see it earlier. When the noticed the warning messgae to disable find my iphone while attempting a restore, i removed it from my account in web. Still i am not able to restore to a back up as iCloud is disabled. It is always popping up a message to accept iCloud terms and conditions. Upon clicking View Terms it opens the settings page.
I think it might be related to the ongoing issue

  • My work issued iphone won't restore the backup. New password twist!

My work issued iphone won't restore the backup. I get an error that my password is wrong. I tried variations of all recent passwords. Checked various threads and saw one that suggesting to use the "Change Password" feature under "Encrypt iPhone Backup" as a faster way to find your password. After a few wrong attempts I then successfully changed my backup password and wrote it down!!
Now when I tried to restore my backup with my shiny new password I get the same error that "iTunes could not restore the iPhone "my iphone" because the password was incorrect"  The "Encrypt iPhone backup" option is checked and grayed out. I assume the fact its grayed out means its a policy set by my company. I cannot uncheck the "Encrypt iPhone Backup" option. My company IT helpdesk can't help me as they say they don't set a password or force its encryption. The phone has Mobile Iron 5.7.4 app installed as a corporate requirement.
Any ideas? I am using iOS 6.1.3 and I will not update it to iOS 7 since I cannot restore my backup. Learned this the hard way when it wouldn't restore after the iOS 5 to iOS 6 update. I have an iPhone 4s.
    Thank you,

This is a problem.  We also set a policy which requires users create a backup password.  That way if they salvage their computer, someone that buys it at the Thrift store won't be able to access what might be company data.  The problem is that the password is only required one time, when the initial backup is made, and it might be a year or more before you need to use it to do a restore.  Here is an article which may help out...at least with some ideas on password ideas...http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
If you can't remember it, you can always transfer your content to your computer, music, apps, photo's etc, then setup the device as new and transfer the content back.  This won't allow you to get various settings, and points on games, etc, but at least you will have the really really important stuff.  If you are connected to an enterprise mail server, that will restore all of your mail, contacts and calendar.

I Was wodnering of you ever had ths issue resolved.  My wife's iPad 2 is havieng a similiar issue.  The iPad receives only some emails -- they appear to be from people in her contacts-- but not emials from "strange" soucrces.  No junk mail rules are set.  And oddly enough it is a new iCloud email address.

  • I have backed up my ipad to my laptop prior to updating to the latest IOS and now I want to restore the backup back onto the ipad but it says there is not enough space? I have tried unticking all apps i no longer need, music etc but this still doesnt work

I have updated up my ipad2 which had the original version on it (4.??) to the latest version of IOS. Before I did this I backed up the ipad to my laptop so I wouldnt lose precious pics and videos of my baby boy.  Now that the latest version is on the ipad it is now asking me if I want to start as a new ipad or restore my backup from itunes.  So i select restore my backup from itunes and connect to itunes but it now says there is not enough space to do so.  I have a feeling it is because there are alot of pics on our ipad which i presume are all in this backup, many of which we do not need on the ipad anymore but I have no idea on how I go about deleting these pics??  And how do I find where on my laptop this backup is and most importantly the video and pics of my baby boy.

Restoring an iPad from an iTunes-generated backup should not require an Apple ID password.
Did you encrypt the iPad backup? If so, then trying to restore will require entering the encryption password.

  • How can I restore my iPhone 4's iOS5 backup without restoring iOS if the option to "Restore from Backup" doesn't appear when I right click it in the device list?

(Lengthy question, I know Let me explain.)
A few days ago, I decided to clear out the music on my computer. So, I copied everything out of iTunes to my external hard drive (podcasts, music, movies, tv shows, books, and apps) and deleted all that I could find, including the iTunes folder. I forgot that the iTunes library files were in there, and those went too; unsurprisingly, I was greeted with an empty library when I next opened iTunes.  After adding all my files back from my external hard drive, everything's all good there - no lost files, everything seems fine. However, since my library is a "new" library, iTunes wishes to erase everything on my iPhone 4. Which is also fine, for everything except my apps.  I'd really rather not lose all my application settings and data that are saved in my backup.  But, I cannot just "Restore from Backup" by right-clicking my device in the list in iTunes, so... I haven't synced my iPhone since I did this, so all of my data is still on there, but it's in the backup as well.  If I have to erase all iTunes content, I definitely have to be able to restore the backup over it since I don't want to lose all my settings and Springboard layout.  I'd prefer not to restore iOS because I don't want to go from iOS5 to 5.0.1, nor do I have 8 hours to download the IPSW file on my super-speedy internet connection   Any guidance on restoring my iPhone from its backup?

Here's an interesting bit: iTunes will let me restore my iPod touch from backup: it's still running iOS 4.3.3. I figured as much... there's backups showing in the Preferences -> Devices list for both devices (and even my old, long gone iPod touch 2G), but my iPhone (on iOS5) isn't giving me any such option. I remember I had to downgrade before to get the backup restored (something went haywire in the setup assistant, and I couldn't restore a backup from iTunes there)... If it was possible to go to iOS 5.0 rather than 5.0.1 I would just do the same thing again, but iOS 5.0.1 isn't an option. I attached a screenshot. Hopefully Apple can get this nonsense sorted out; I think iOS 5 might be the root of this, somehow.
