IOS mail client not working in certain wifi networks

Hey,
this is driving me crazy:
When I use my iPad or iPhone within our universities eduroam wifi network, receiving and sending mails does not work.
I am using a google apps account. One would say, ok that's due to some IMAP and SMTP port blocking. However it isn't. Using my android phone with the same settings it just wouldn't work ... Never!
Using my iPad in other networks works just fine ...
Please help me with some suggestions.

It could be the network, but what surprises me is that nothing else is being blocked at all. And I can't seem to change the port that Mail is on. I tried a port scan, and it came up that that port is blocked (993), but it also came up that every other port I tried was also blocked. I used a Mac to do a Port Scan for my iPad's IP, but it wasn't detecting any open ports. So I don't know if it is an issue with the network, or perhaps with my iOS devices. The network has 802.1X security I believe (I need a username and password to login), so unsure if this would affect it at all?

IOS 5.1 Email not updating on certain WiFi networks

All of a sudden, all my iOS devices have stopped updating email on my school's wifi network. All other internet connections are fine (can get on safari, youtube, etc), but Mail does not update. I tried changing the port, but it just kept Verifying and wouldn't change. Unsure if there is something with iOS 5.1 (only started affecting me yesterday. I have tried rebooting my iPad, as well as re-adding the network, but nothing worked. Email still works fine on all other networks I use. Any suggestions?

Icloud mail client not working properly

mail client does not replicate mail from icloud quickly AND unable to send mail from local client - am I doing something wrong?

Hmmm, iCloud eMail part should work fine on PPC in 10.5.8, even 10.4.11, & 10.3.9

You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    •    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    •    SSL Required: Yes
    •    Port: 993
    •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    •    Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    •    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    •    SSL Required: Yes
    •    Port: 587
    •    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    •    Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    •    Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria: 8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers. If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message. Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

Xerox Phase 6280DN printing does not work anymore over wifi network help

I am having recurrent printing problems within a WIFI home office network. After power-cuts (which occur frequently here) I can not print anymore from any computer in the WIFI network on a Xerox Phaser 6280 DN.
The printer is seen in the printer list but after clicking print in the printer queue it says "looking for printer" and /or "printing". When I connect the printer directly to a Macbook Pro it will print. Today I have downloaded the latest version of the printer driver of beginning this year from the Xerox support site. However now I can not add the printer to the printer list because it does not show up as an option! I restarted the laptop but this does not help. I have also restarted the airport express and airport base station but no luck. I did so by unplugging and replugging.
The Phaser is connected to an Airport express which talks to an Airport base-station. OSX is 10.6.3. Thanks for any help it is driving me mad.

E-mail client not working over wifi?

The built-in e-mail application always requires packet data connection and simply ignores the fact that phone is connected to the Internet via wifi! It asks to connect via existing packet data destination and if I don't allow it it simply does nothing, no attempt to use the running connection. Can this be fixed? Thanks for the reply. I actually expected an e-mail about reply, but not got it, so I did not notice it.
It is set precisely like you say, and still no progress via wifi. It pretends to do something but never download new messages, nor puts any error. Over 3G no problem. I wonder if somebody got it working via wifi. Mailbox is type IMAP4, SSL - but this is common nowadays, even gmail uses it.
Furthermore the phone always establishes a new 3G connection without asking when a new mailbox is created, despite the fact that a wifi connection has a higher priority and the 3G connection is set to 'Ask always' ! It seems that packet data connection is somehow hardwired there. Notably the Java Gmail app from Google does the same.

IOS RD Client not working for RemoteApp

This worked great for us, up through the past few releases. Nothing changed on the configuration of our server (2008 R2 SP1), but now we get log errors of "Server Error in '/RDWeb/Feed' Application" and "The resource cannot be found. Description:
HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly."
As noted, our RDS server is a single 2008 R2 SP1 server (fully patched) using RemoteApp. Logging in via the RemoteApp RDWeb site works perfectly fine, but via iOS it only shows 3 of the 12 published applications (all 3 will launch). It
USED to show them all. There does not seem to be any logic behind why it will show just those 3 and not the others, in terms of path, user groups, etc.. Some of the error(s) I'm seeing in the iOS log are as follows:
Requested URL: /rdweb/feed/rdweb/feed/webfeed.aspx
(Not sure why iOS is repeating the path, but the webfeed.aspx is located in C:\Windows\Web\RDWeb\Feed)

Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Cause:
The problem occurs if the URL that is specified in the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase contains a trailing backslash.
To resolve this problem, remove the trailing backslash in the IIS metabase for the URL that is specified for the affected Web application. Please check below Kb article (KB article is old but you can refer and check whether it resolved your issue).

Mail app not working on school wireless network?

I'm confused. When I'm at school and on their wireless network, the internet works fine (I'm posting this from class), but the Mail application will not receive mail. I can access my email account from the web without a problem, but it won't work in the app. Mail app works fine on my wireless network at home, though.
Any ideas?

I have been experiencing similar problems with my connection working in some locations and not in others. It seems to have something to do with what software is being used at the location to block "inappropriate use". What I'm wondering is whether it's actually a timing issue with the firewall delaying the packets or if it is the actual port being blocked. At other times, the messages have indicated that the connection timed out.
As with some of the other people on this forum, my error message is
The server error encountered was: Mail was unable to connect to server “mail.mac.com” using SSL on port 993. Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct.
From these locations, I am able to go to the http://www.mac.com site. However, sometimes, the messages take a very long time to load or never complete loading. I don't know if this could be a connected problem. The places where I have the most problems with mail via www.mac.com are also the locations where the mail application has problems.

Vmware clients not receiving dhcp from wifi networks

we are testing mac laptops running windows 7 virtually using vmware fusion at our office. One problem i ran into is windows 7 cant ever get the dhcp information from Domain Controller to get onto the network/internet here at the office. i have set the NIC to bridged mode in vmware fusion. it works fine at my house where i can get on my home network/internet just not in the office so i know it can be done, but not sure what setting on the cisco wireless lan controller 2106 controlls that feature. can anyone assist me in resolving this? if i plug it into the network using an ethernet cable everything works just fine, so i believe it is just a setting on the wireless controller that needs to be changed, at least thats what i am hoping, im hoping its not some limitation of the system......

There are workarounds to overcome this..
Workarounds: 1. Configure the virtual machine software for NAT ("shared networking") mode, not bridged mode. 2. If using 4.1 WLC software, configure the virtual machine to use static IP addressing, not DHCP. 3. If you have an AP that does H-REAP, change the AP mode to H-REAP and local switching so that DHCP (and other) packets do not traverse the controller.

Just had this issue. I turned WIFI off and it connected fine. Then turned WIFI back on and working as always.
It had something to do with the WIFI conflicting with the exchange server.

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??

1 . We updated OS to mavericks few machine in last december and still does't works SMTP (Out going mail) on those MAC.
2. After that most recently we updated OS to mavericks few machine those are working will with SMTP server .
a)Not showing any SMTP connection in TCP trace ,
b) Connection docter every time Says "Connecting to the server "
3, Then we have installed thunderberd (another mail) client on maverick os, which OS related to apple mail client not woking . It seems other mail client is working well with SMTP server .

I have restared the phone, toggled the router, re-entered the network password but there's still no connection.

When your device is trying to connect to the work Wi-Fi network, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > then tap on the name of the Netowrk that she is having trouble with. Then tap on forget this network. Let the device attempt to connect again and make absolutely sure she is trying to connect to the work network and not a nearby network, then make absolutely sure the password is entered correctly.
