IOS mail showing garbled headers

Hi,
When I receive e-mails on my iPad from e.g. Gmail, and the sender has a name configured with non-standard characters like "André" or "König", mail shows garbage in the From: field. It doesn't happen if such an address is in the Cc field.
All other mail clients that I tried show the header correctly. If I check the raw header, it shows up like a proper RFC2047 compliant header, like =?iso-8859-1?B?<base64-encoded string>?=.
Does anyone have pointers to the cause of this issue? I have been googling for a while now and somehow I've run out of Google-Fu credits.
Regards,
Frank

  • IPhone 4s Mail shows over 5000 unread emails, but only 4 show up in Inbox

On my wife's iPhone 4s, running the latest iOS, Mail shows over 5000 unread messages, but there are actually only 4 in the Inbox.  Anyone out there who has experienced this and have a fix?

You need to log into your email on a browser and delete them from there.

  • Is there a way to show only flagged email on iOS Mail?

I use Exchange 2007 at work with Outlook 2010.  I also use my iPad to connect to my company Outlook Web Access.  On the iPad I am able to mark a message as flagged.  I use the flag on a message to indicate that there's some action that I need to take on the email.  After I skim my inbox and flag all the emails with actionable items in them I go to my smart folder in Outlook which shows only my flagged messages so I can focus on those with actionable items.  I noticed on IOS Mail there does not seem to be such smart folders and there seems to be no way to view only messages which are flagged.
Can someone please explain how to do this on the iPad.  It is very important to me.  In fact, it's so important, that I would switch to Windows Phone platform just to have this one feature.
    Thanks!

I too would love to filter my inbox down to just flagged emails - I'm on iPad 3 with latest iOS, though it seems latest OS is not the problem, but rather a simple oversight in usability, and more important productivity.
On the note of productivity, why does it take SO MANY clicks to flag an email on iPad mail? Have to hit Edit > mark the email > Mark > Flag. I count three superfluous taps there. There should be a swipe action on the left (much like the swipe and Delete on the right hand side of the email heading) for flagging. And a simple little flag symbol at the top to hit when I want to see only flagged mails. Productivity should be the name of the game.
I also realise that venting in this forum probably isn't the best place for it...

  • IOS Mail changes .mhtml extension to .html when opening in another app

    Hey there guys,
Just noticed this, this morning. Recently, our Backup server admin changed the report sent out by our Microsoft DPM server from PDF to MHTML output. (DPM could *never* format the PDF correctly and, surprise surprise, can format the MHTML output just fine).
Anyways, I purchased an MHTML viewer from the Mac App Store for OSX - all fine. I purchased the iOS version of the same developers viewer this morning and tried to open the mail attachment into that app. Oddly, it just showed as text - just like it does inside the iOS Mail app itself.
It was then that I noticed that the attachment extension was .html not .mhtml - yet the file attached to the email is definetely showing as .mhtml.
I tried a wee experiment and opened the attachment into Dropbox instead - sure enough, the extension was changed to .html again.
I then forwarded that message out to my gmail using the Mailbox app and opened the attachment into the MHTML viewer from there - perfect! Because it didn't change the extension as it passed the attachment to the opening app.
So, I have what obviously is a bug in the iOS Mail app - I just want to report it to Apple so it can be fixed. I can't find anywhere to log this bug without having to pay money for a support incident.
Knowing that Apple frequent these Communities (I have been contacted by them in the past following posts I've made here), I thought this might be the best course of action.  Or, if I am wrong, someone would let me know!  (Either about the bug, or how to report it)... ;-)
    Thanks!
    William

  • IOS Mail, OS X Mail, MS Exchange Server: Sent Mail Folder?

I use iOS Mail and OS X Mail for my MS Exchange server account. The Sent mail folders are not in sync between the 2 apps. Messages sent from iPhone do not show up under "Sent" in OS X Mail, and messages sent from MacBook don't show up under "Sent" in iOS Mail. They're just not talking to each other. Any way to fix this?
PS: previous similar questions were server-specific, and none refered to MS Exchange.

I don't think this is resolved/resolvable in any straightforward way, though. Here's another thread:

  • Html mail attachements garbled

I have recently bounght Iphone5 in India. Have been using it since last 2 months. So far it was perfectly fine . However suddently , the *.htm attachemnts coming from our office mails are garbled (showing chinese charecters) after opening the same. However the MS office attachements are opening properly.
Please guide me to resolve this issue , it will be of great help.

Go download an app like DropBox. Install on phone. Also go to website and get the computer version (they work together).
Sign into both (free account) and once done, there will be a folder on your computer that any file you put in it will automatically appear on your phone in the Dropbox app there.
There are many other apps that offer this too but that is one of the most popular.
Also many apps once installed will show up in iTunes as a place you can transfer files to but I like the dropbox approach better.

  • IOS Mail filters (unread, flagged, attachment, etc) only works in inbox

I decided to ask a question due I'm unable to use the Apple iOs Mail app because the filters (unread, flagged, today, VIP, with attachment...) it only shows me the messages that are in the INBOX. If I move any email to another location, or if it's applied automatic filtering, the iOS Mail app filters doesn't work. I noticed that the Mac Mail app does it well, searching in all folders, but with the iOS app I can't do that. That's the reason I can't use it. I can't do "inbox zero" because then all that "smartboxes" are useless.
I searched in settings but I can't find that. Please tell me if that is only my problem or if happens to everybody. I tryed with almost every account type (iCloud, Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo). My iPhone is 4S with iOS 8.1.3.
    Thank you.
    Guillermo, from Madrid (Spain)

I am having the same problems on several machines, but others do work correcly.
Did you by any chance migrate your account from Entourage ? I am rebuilding accounts right now from scratch and it seems to be working (2 accounts so far).
Looks like preferences migrated from Entourage are not compatible with Outlook. Well, in my case at least.
    Best of luck.

  • Does the 'Hotmail' option in IOS mail use SSL to connect to the hotmail servers?

Just wondering, when selecting the 'Hotmail' option when setting up email on IOS mail, whether this automatically uses SSL to connect to the hotmail servers - it doesn't show any server settings when you view the account.

    Hi Drewscussions,
Thanks for the reply - I'm just wondering about the security measures in place behind those predefined settings I.e. does it use an encrypted SSL link. I would like to ensure, as I often access emails off public wifi, that I have it set correctly to use an encrypted connection to my hotmail account.
My emails have been working fine - it's more of a question about what security measures are in place in that preset mail option.
    Cheers

  • Apple Mail shows iCloud as offline with my Apple ID

Apple Mail shows iCloud as offline with my Apple ID, but works fine with wife's different Apple ID

    Hi ccharat,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you did a good job editing your Apple ID and primary email address, but you didn’t sign out of iCloud on your iOS device before hand. What you may need to do in this situation is go back to the Apple ID website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the email address that is signed in with iCloud (there is no need to verify the account after editing it back to the old account, just changing it back is enough). Once your Apple ID is back to the original account, delete the iCloud account from the iOS device and be sure to keep all info on the device when prompted. After you delete the iCloud account, go back to the website and edit your Apple ID and primary email address back to the new address. Once it is back to the account you would like, you can sign into the iCloud on the iOS device with that new account and merge all of the data when prompted. Please use the following article as a reference.
iOS 7: If you're asked for the password to your previous Apple ID when signing out of iCloud
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5223
    Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Go to Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap “Keep on My [Device]” or “Delete from My [Device].” In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.
    I hope this helps,
    -Joe

  • ICloud mail showing as unread on iPad

    This is just odd.
I am using a single iCloud mail account (using the default IMAP) protocols.
That mail account is accessed by two Macs, an iPhone and an iPad.
Most of my mail is read pretty quickly, usually on the Mac.
I understand that the unread badge on iOS mail might not reflect the fact that mail has been read. When I open the mail app, it should sync.
But when I go to the iPad and open Mail -  there are usually 5 or 6 mails, which despite being read on the Mac - are showing-up with a blue bullet, and behaving as unread.
If I look at Mail in the iCloud web interface,  those same mails are correctly showing as read.
    So right at this moment....
My Mac tells me there is one unread message (in Junk) - this is correct
My iPhone says there are two unread messages. One recent (same as Mac) plus one from yesterday about 30 emails down.
My iPad tells me there are four unread messages.  One recent (same as Mac) plus a cluster of three from earlier today.
If I pull-to-refresh on either iDevice no change is made to the read status.
If I delete the iCloud account and rejoin - then the read status matches.
Why isn't iOS mail syncing read status for some messages?

I am replying to my own post just to add some more information.
In summary the iPad shows mails that have been read on other devices as unread.
    Even with Mail app running.
The problem does not happen on an old iPod Touch running iOS6.  That device stays perfectly in sync with iCloud mail - and the unread status is always the same.
The problem is only visible on the iPad Air and the Phone 5  - both iOS 7.0.4
    There are no connection issues.
Most of my mail is addressed to the old .mac address.  Can't see this as relevant.

  • Mail shows 70 new messages but I have none.  This only started a few weeks ago.  Rebooting didn't fix the problem.

Mail shows 70 messages but I have none.  Why is that? Can it be corrected?

When you say you have none, are you sure that you are viewing "All Inboxes"? If not, try going back (top left option) until you see that option. If there are no new messages in "All Inboxes" then the messages might be in folders or smart folders.
    Folders/Smartfolders
If you have sorting rules set up on your Mac's Mail app, then these "new" messages are in those folders. These messages will not show up in "All Inboxes." This might be what is happening. To find out, open up each folder/smartfolder on your Mac and see if there are new messages in them because iOS devices (iPod/iPhone/iPad) will not sort mail like your Mac.

  • Delete gmail account from iOS mail

gmail shows up as an inactive account in my ios mail settings.  however, gmail still  loads into my inbox.  I want to eliminate gmail completely and only get icloud mail.  I can't find a way to do it.

Since you are in the Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks) forum but are asking about iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc), I'm not sure how to answer.  So, here is how to do it in either:
In Mavericks (i.e. on a Mac):
Open "System Preferences" > "Internet Accounts"
Select your Google account in the left sidebar
Click the "-" icon at the bottom left to delete the account
In iOS (i.e. on an iPhone):
    Touch "Settings"
    Touch "Mail, Contacts, Calendars"
    Touch your Gmail Account
At the bottom of the screen, touch "Delete Account"
That's it.  If you delete accounts per the above instructions then there is simply no way for your Gmail to continue to come in to Apple Mail on Mavericks or iOS.  The only way that could happen is if you have set up your Gmail account to forward mail to your iCloud account.
    I hope this helps.

  • Duplicated IMAP labels in iOS Mail

Hi folks, I am pulling my Gmail account down via IMAP and recently noticed the strange/frustrating issue that all of my labels are appearing twice in iOS Mail's folder list when I drill into "Accounts > Gmail".
The tags have not been duplicated on the server side. The actual folders, with the exact same emails in them, are simply appearing twice in the list. In fact, if I tap into a the second listing of my "Notices" folder, when I tap back out to the top level of navigation, the animation shows me emerging from the first listing. I tap into one folder, but the OS knows it's exactly the same as the other folder.
I've deleted and readded the Gmail account twice now, and restarted the phone. I've purged my labels on Gmail. But the duplication persists. I'm afraid to use Mail on iOS to delete one of the label sets because I don't want to accidentally delete the entire label and all the conversations assigned. And again, the label itself is not duplicated on Gmail.
    Help!

    Update
We've had zoho mail accounts lying around for some time, and I can define one of these as an IMAP mail account from iPad
I can create folders at will on the zoho account AND IOS mail client allows me to move mail messaged BETWEEN mail accounts, so she can keep her existing mail account but move things she wants to keep easily to zoho
    Not ideal, but workable

  • How do flagged emails in iOS Mail app sync with Gmail Starred emails?

    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out how the "Flagged" mailbox on iOS mail interacts with Gmail's "starred" messages.  It seems that messages that I star on Gmail and then archive do not show up in the Flagged mailbox on iOS, and that only starred messages that are still in my inbox show up.  Is that correct?  DOes anyone know a workaround to get starred and archived messages to show up?
    Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, but the Gmail app is not the solution.  I have three different accounts, and I want to have just one folder where all my flagged/starred emails are collated. I don't want to be jumping between different accounts.

  • Character encoding problem by Gmail set up as exchange account on IOS mail

It was maybe asked before but I could not find any solution. If someone can help I would appreciate it...
If I set up my gmail, which I use very heavily, as Gmail on the IOS mail installation it would be set up as IMAP and does not push the emails. If I choose it to install as exchange account via m.google.com everything is OK and I get my mails instantly. But the way over exchange disturbs because of the character encoding problem. IOS mail does not show me the turkish or some german characters  like "ü" and the mail is almost not readable... By version 1 also as IMAP there is no problem with the characters but I must start IOS mail everytime to see if I have new mail...
Does anyone know a solution for it?
    Thanks...
    Mel

But I cannot set the the gmail app as standart email program, or? I mean if I want to send a page on safari and click send via email, the mail.app would start and not the gmail.app.... I am using Iphone since a few weeks and as far as I know a customisation is not possible.
