IOS update before restroe from backup

Hello,
I had to get my iPhone swapped out this weekend because of an issue with the phone. The only issue is the replacement phone has iOS 4.2 and my latest backups has iOS 4.3 and it will not allow me to restore form backup because of that. Is there a way to upgrade the iOS first. Every time I plug the phone in it just prompts me to restore form back up or set up new iPhone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Choose to set it up as new.
Try to skip through all the setup windows as quickly as possible, because they won't be of any use to you.
When you get back to the normal iTunes window, select the phone in the sidebar, then click on the 'Restore' button. This will restore your phone to iOS 4.3.
After the restore process has finished, it will ask you again whether you would like to use your backup or a clean install.
This time your old backup will work fine!

Can't I fake it out so it just leaves my ios as it is but restores files and settings? ios 4 doesn't really work well with the 3G models. They get slow and buggy. Isn't there some way to just put the ipsw file somewhere and point to it? Or, is there a way to just rip the ical info outof the backup files. That would work to.

yesterday iupdated my ipod touch 4g to ios5 and i selected to backup from an itunes backup i made yesterday morning, but after doing so, my ipod went to sleep, and when i tried to unlock it, it told me ipod disabled wait 1 minute, after a minute i tried again but then it said wait 5 minutes, why isn't my passcode working?

Restore from Backup once more. Passcodes are not restored in backups, so you should be able to get on the iPod without a passcode, then go into Settings and set up a new one (or the old one if you want).

yesterday I've upgraded to iOS8. After three tries it worked.
But now I'm not able to restore my iPhone5 from Backup. It starts restoring. But the when it's done I've receive the error message without an error nr.
"itunes could not restore the iphone because an error occurred"

I've rewetted the iphone, tried on another computer to restore the backup, tried a different internet connection. Nothing. Everywhere the same issue. I've also tried to use a half year old backup just for fun. But the same issue.
I've disconnected other USB devices. No chance

Updating iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and restore from backup - losing contacts again and again

Hi there,
I updatet today my iPhone to iOS 6. Before that I made a new backup (and have old ones too).
Everytime when I restore it now from a backup, the contacts are again there but then after hours, from one moment to another, the contacts are gone.
Some contacts are still there, I think that a really old ones.
I don't use the iCloud, I disabled iCloud every time in the settings and have no WiFi connection at home. Otherwise everytime when I must activate the iPhone after restoring, i do not activate the iCloud. I know iOS 6 wish this in activation process but I don't want to use the iCloud.
I'm ****** of because of that, tomorrow I will travel to Bremen (Germany) and I need my iPhone and of course my contacts.
Any idea what is goining on?

What were you syncing your contacts with? If you were not syncing them to a contact manager or cloud service as intended, you may have to purchase 3rd party software to try and extract what informaion there is from the backup.

Iphone ios update 7.1.2 crashed my iphone 5

I tried updating the latest software 7.1.2 It suddenly crashed and I've lost all my photos, apps etc. Plus, these photos were not on the photostream. Not happy at all.

If one of these programs will not kick the iPod out of recovery mode then you will have to restore via iTunes

i started the IOS8 update on my iPhone 5
the download was ok but the implementation of IOS is frozen half way since 12 hours, showing the apple sign and the progress bar.

If you set up your iPhone prior to your restore from backup, have iCloud, and had Photo Stream turned on, there is a chance that those photos may be in your Photo Stream. You may find the information in the following article helpful:

HT4623 Trying to update my iPad to latest iOS. It connects to iTunes and appears to have done everything, to include restore from backup on my computer. When I disconnect from computer the iPad then starts from "Hello", "Select language", "Choose Wi-Fi N

It then asks me to Set Up iPad and I choose "Restore from iTunes Backup" It completes the synch according to iTunes. but the iPad screen just shows connected to iTunes. If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you're old phone that was repalced was a higher version of iOS, it wont be able to restore. Update your iPhone to the lastest iOS 7.0.4 and try to restore it then.

Has your phone ever been hacked or jailbroken. This error message is what usually shows up for that. Are you using a supported carrier for the iPhone, or did someone hack the phone to unlock it to be used on another carrier. If that is the case, then there is no help you can get here as discussing hacked/jailbroken devices is not allowed.

Backup error before iOS update - Lost everything - HELP?

Hi all,
I have a problem like many others: while updating iPhone to iOS 5, iTunes encountered a backup error (-50) and I lost all data (photo, video, notes, contacts) saved after the last backup (more than 1 year ago).
Talked with Apple Genius, it seems there is no way to recover lost data from my iPhone... this is very sad.
But I ask if someone has found maybe a solution: is there a chance maybe iTunes left some temporary files (I'm using Windows version) that I can scan? It's extremely important to recover the notes.
Hope someone can help.
