IOS4.01 Problem

I have an iPhone 3GS and recently upgraded to iOS4. Yesterday I downloaded the latest upgrade to the OS (the one with the signal strength fix) and now my phone cannot find my network. I am in the UK and subscribe to the Orange UK network.
Does anyone know what may be causing this problem and how I might be able to fix it?

Thanks but I have tried that several times. At first I got a full strength signal indicator but after a few seconds the strength seemed to go down and then the Searching... message appeared. Now it is showing No Service. I checked my wife's phone which is also on Orange, though it is a simple Seimans hadnset and she does not appear to have any signal problems.
Thanks though for your suggestion.

  • IPod Touch 2nd Generation iOS4 Problems

Okay, I have an iPod touch 2G 16GB, since upgrading to iOS4 my ipod's suffered numerous crashes, it started off whilst playing games but has now decided to do it when listening to music also.
Basically what happens is the screen will flash white and then the display disappears turning the device off. Then when I try to turn it back on it won't work, not even hard resets work. I have to wait hours before tryin another 4 or 5 times before it gets going again.
The device hasn't been jail broken, I've restored it and reinstated everything but I'm at a loss here.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Dann

I am having similar problems, except it doesn't take hours it just returns me to my home screen. Also many apps won't even begin to play. I have updated some of my games and things with versions they claim are iOS4 compatible but they still have issues from time to time. It's very obviously a iOS4 problem or just a problem with every app available at the moment. Either way I think we can say this is a huge FAIL on apple's part to bring this out either to early or at all. I was planning on getting a new Iphone 4 but after these problems I can see why a lot of people are starting to buy Droid and I will be looking into buying one of those too.

  • IOS4 Problems with iPod Touch 2nd Gen

    Hello!
Since installing the iOS4 in my iPod 2nd Gen I had many problems, the OS makes the iPod slower, the auto-lock function doesn't work, once I tell it to auto-lock after 1 minute, it doesn't, it just stays on all day, I have to do it several times and lock it manually so it stays like that.
I have also had problems with syncing music, since it doesn't play the songs, but is not a constant thing, some days are one songs, some another and is not always the same song.
Many Apps are also failing but that goes to the App developer.
    < Edited by Host >

That is all fine and good except Apple pushed it 2nd gen owners as a supposed upgrade. Had we been given a disclaimer stating that it was going to half break most of our apps, we naturally would have declined the upgrade.
For the record, G2 touches did not get multitasking. All we got Folders and access to ibooks, along with a few minor tweaks, here and there. There is absolutely no excuse for how terribly slow ibooks renders PDFs, considering Looksee did a much faster and better job of it on my G1 touch.
All I really cared about was folders. It would be nice if Apple could tweak IOS4 for G2 ipods to allow for folders without decimating our Ram. If they can't then give us a convenient way to get back to an OS that actually works properly.

  • Solutions to iOS4 problems- go back to iOS 3 or extract the old data?

I am clutching at straws for ideas now to resolve the iOS4 update that failed, and then promptly wiped all my app data and photos etc.
The backups I have don't seem to do anything other than give me a clean OS 4 install. I do have one backup though that is definately OS 3. But I can't get it to install. All my attempts to go back to iOS 3 have failed with Apple failing to verify the software for the device. Apple don't seem to allow OS downgrades which in this type of situation is ridiculous. *How do I get back to OS 3.1.3?*
Another idea I had is to extract the data straight off the device. Apple support confirmed to me that the data would still be there, and there are independent software products that will extract/recover files. But the Apple guy wouldn't recommend one. *Anyone got any recommendations for software to recover ipod data?*
I've now spent about 12 hours trying to recover data thanks to iOS4. Cheers Apple. Speaking to their support guy they are inundated with problems to do with this update.

What was the lock button is now a notification mute button - so if, for example, you are playing music or watching a video the button will now mute email notifications etc. Rotation lock is now a software function via the task bar (double-click the home button, slide to the left, and press the button to the far left; pressing the button again will switch off lock; pressing home button again hides the task bar)

  • IOS4 Problems!!!

Problem after problem with iOS4. first, the camera takes forever to load and sometimes just doesn't take pictures. And my iPhone is just slow in general, even after I restored it on iTunes. When I restored it on iTunes, half of my pictures went blank. I can only open some of them. What do I do now?

  • IOS4 Problem

i have an iPhone 3G. Yesterday i upgraded to iOS4. After the update
    i got this problem:
I cannot change my iPhone previous settings because
eveytime i go into settings, only a seconds it returns
    back to the homescreen.
Does anyone know what maybe causing this problem and how might be able
    to fix it?
    Thank you in advance...

Did you try rebooting your iPhone? I had the same problem that every app I clicked would just return to the home screen. Rebooting solved the problem.

  • Iphone3GS + iOS4 problems with Camera picture names.

I use Image Capture to import all my images since i bought my iphone3GS more than a year ago with the delete after import option.
Now, with iOS4, I take 10 pictures then i import & delete and my images come with name IMG_0001.jpg to IMG_0010.jpg so nothing wrong here. The issue comes when i start making more pictures and import them. The image name start again with IMG_0001.jpg instead with IMG_0011.jpg as allways was.
This is a BIG BUG and i do not know how to resolve it. Does anyone have a clue how to do it?
    Thank You,
    Paulo.

    Hi Paulo,
I'm suspecting that Apple doesn't regard this as a bug.
My personal thoughts that it is a silly feature to reset the file count each time you empty the camera roll, or better yet it could have a feature you could turn on/off in the settings like many cameras allow you to do.
If you want them to address it, send a feedback email to them here
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I suspect that what has happened, is the developers have designed the iOS4 software around iPhoto and not anything else.
iPhoto creates Events based on the digitised time of the file, that is, the time you took the photo. So it effectively creates a sub folder called an Event and puts the photos there. When you download the photos from the iPhone straight into iPhoto and there were multiple days over which the photos were taken, it creates multiple Events. So in saying that, it doesn't really care what the file is called and if there are a thousand IMG_001 files in iPhoto in a thousand different Events, iPhoto and your computer had no trouble in finding them all.
You are like me and use Image Capture to import the photos rather than iPhoto.
My work around is to select the photos by each day in Image Capture and download them to a folder that includes the date they were taken (eg 100925 BBQ at the Beach (I add the date at the start so when I am searching thru finder, the folders are listed in the order I took them)) and have them deleted when imported automatically from the iPhone.
It not great, but it works for me and even though I may end up with a thousand IMG_001 files, they don't all end up in the same folder, left for me to work out which ones they are.
    Hope this helps

  • IPhone 3GS and iOS4 problems! PLEASE help!!

yesterday i updated to iOS4 on my iPhone 3GS. everything was going well except my iphone would restart whenever it liked.
so i connected to iTunes & decided to restore it back to its factory settings to try and resolve the issue. now, the iphone screen says connect to itunes with the picture of the usb and itunes. and when i try to restore, "unknown error 29" comes up.
i don't know what to do anymore.

Ok this is wat happened to my iPhone 3GS after I opted to upgrade to iOS4.0:
After the upgrade file finished downloading, the installation process got initiated. However, after a few minutes, the process crashed throwing up an Error 1602. My phone just displayed the connect to itunes logo. I did a hard reset (by pushing the home button & the power on/off button simultaneously) and the phone entered the recovery mode (or DFU or watever it is called). I reopened itunes and connected the iphone again. This time, I was told that the phone has been detected on recovery mode. I clicked RESTORE & it told me that the phone would be restored to factory settings, which I chose. The recovery process started and after a coupla minutes, I got another error. This time it was Error 1601.
After spending a good 2 hrs researching the internet, I found the solution that did work for me. Here goes...U would need another computer for this (not the one u have been using to sync ur iphone with):
    1) Install itunes 9.2 on another computer.
    2) Connect ur iphone (while it displays the connect to itunes logo).
    3) itunes will detect an iphone on recovery mode.
    4) Click Restore. itunes will tell u that ur phone can be restored to factory settings. Choose OK.
    5) itunes will automatically download iOS 4.0
    6) once the download is complete, installation of iOS 4 should start immediately. if for some weird reason it doesnt initiate, press shift+restore and select the installation file (it is located in C:\Documenst & Settings\User\Application Data\Apple Computer\itunes\iphone software updates\xxxxx.ipsw )
    7) Once u've selected this file, installation will start & ull get a progress bar on ur iphone as well.
    8) The installation should come around fine & after a coupla automatic reboots, ur iPhone should now be up & running with iOS 4.0
    9) Itunes will ask you to name ur iphone. at this point, eject the iphone from the computer & connect it to the other computer (the one which u previously used to sync the iphone with). open itunes & ull get 2 options: Create a new iphone or restore backup from "Sandy's iPhone" [ur iphone's name]. Choose the 2nd option & watch ur iphone being restored with all ur backup.\
    10) once the sync is complete, eject & enjoy iOS 4
    Phew
    Cheers!!!

  • Major iOS4 problem!

I updated my phone at about 1pm today before I had to go to work. All was going according to plan when iTunes did the usual thing of stating it was reconnecting the iPhone. It started the process restarting the phone. Yet, something weird happened, it kept restarting the phone over and over again. It would never load a home screen longer than 10 seconds before it would restart again. I finally got the phone to fully start, which I'm not sure how, and it lasted for 6 or 7 hours. It then crashed while I was trying to take an HDR picture. It started the whole restarting over and over all over again. I then tried to plug it into iTunes and it could not read it, so I troubleshooted the phone into recovery mode. I called Apple to see if they could help. The restore began and then the restarts started again. My phone is basically a lighting up brick. I have an appointment tomorrow at 11 AM, hopefully they will resolve this issue. I just want my phone back. Is anyone else having this problem, I've looked all through the forums and have not seen anything like what I've been experiencing with this update.

Well I looked for a tutorial on how to put my phone into DFU mode and my phone is still doing the same thing. Thanks for the advice though . Hopefully it'll be figured out tomorrow.

  • IOS4 problem with email duplicates showing in Inbox

After upgrading to iOS4, now I have some emails repeated in my inbox. I'm using IMAP with a single email account. It doesn't happen for all emails...some are see in duplicate and some are not. This never happened before the OS upgrade.
At first I thought it was the new threading (which was grouping duplicates) but even when I turned off threading, the duplicates remain.
Also tried turning off and on the phone and it doesn't fix the issue. If I try to delete a duplicate it gives me an error that the email message cannot be deleted.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks!

I'm having the same issues. mostly with gmail though, as my work exchange account is appearing as it should.

  • IOS4 problems... PLEASE HELP!!!!!

We installed and uninstalled iTunes awhile ago, so I have 643 songs on my computer and 1641 on my iPod Touch 3rd Generation (32gb). I was told to manage that manually, so that is what I do. I don't know how to get the songs from my iPod all onto the computer! I have tried updating iOS4 many times, probably at least 6. The first few times it went to a certain point and said my iPod was disconnected. I realized that I didn't have enough space for the iOS on my iPod, so I deleted a movie and there is plenty of space available. I tried it after and it got all the way through backing up and then said an unknown error has occurred. There was definitely enough space for the iOS4 to be on my iPod. I am getting so frusturated and do not want to lost my music and I just want to update to the newest version. Also our computer almost crashed while trying to back it up, so we deleted iTunes and have to reinstall it. I am so lost and frusturated. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • How to FIX your iPhone 3G and iOS4 PROBLEMS!

Does anyone know how to fix my crippled iPhone 3G after I updated to 4.0.1?

The only way to go back to the old software has been described for you. It is not officially sanctioned by Apple. They do not provide a way to go back to former software. There is not currently a fix in iTunes, as the only thing iTunes does is provide a conduit for you to update firmware.
As provided before, Apple is addressing the issues with 3G and 3GS phones running slow with iOS4. According to developers with access to the iOS4.1 beta, it has been addressed there. You will have to either try the Genius bar as suggested, and I understand the distance issue, or you will have to wait for iOS4.1 to be released. If a restore as a new phone and a DFU restore do not work, then I'm not aware of any other alternative except what was provided above.
Edit: You might try and delete the iOS that you have on the computer and let iTunes download a brand new one. That might help.

  • IOS4 on 3GS - photos cannot import to PC

Had my iphone 3GS upgrade to iOS4, problem is that photos taken after the upgrade are not able to import to PC when i connect my iphone to PC.
Photos taken after the upgrade are stored in camera roll , old photos were syc. to camera roll too. But when I connect my iphone to pc and open the camera folder through iphone drive on pc, those new photos were not found (but still exists in camera roll on iphone). Even I restored my iphone and all photos (both taken before and after upgrade) did syn. to iphone camera roll. Photos taken after upgrade are still not found on PC iphone drive.
Did anyone got same issue? Anyone knows how to fix it? Many Thanks.

I'm lookin everywhere for i solution....and nth was found....i'm hoping the next update could fix the crash...

  • Many 3G with OS 4 Problems FIXED!

I have been having many problems since I upgraded my 3G to the new OS 4 system. I have read hundreds of Posts that all of you have written and I see my problems are _not unique_.
Here is all I will say: "*Reset All Data*" had a HUGE POSITIVE impact on performance on my 3G after the new OS 4 was installed. I was having problems across the board (slow, crashes, loss of data, etc.). My Passcode was not working, the Keyboard was awful, I regretted installing OS 4.
After reading all the Posts, I decided to go ahead and do the "Reset All Data" process. Boy the change was immediate and positive. 99% of my complaints went away immediately.
I am still having problems with the MobileMe "Find My iPhone" process. It is still not accurate at all. But otherwise OS 4 on my iPhone 3G is a success.

Great tip. Did wonders for me. I was having horrible problems and was able to solve most of them with the following:
1-Double hard reset (as soon as the first one finishes booting, reset the second)
2-Complete battery drain and charge (2x)
    3-Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
    4-Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
There appears to be some kind of memory leak in some Apple apps in iOS4. So if things do get bogged down launch a memory intensive game (Real Racing does it for me) and it seems to resolve it.
The measuring rod I have been using for all my iOS4 problems is how long it takes for Settings to launch. Right after my update it was taking consistently 13 seconds. Now 2 seconds.
As I recall every major update has had problems like this which Apple seemed to resolve in the weeks following the update, (it happened especially with the 2.0 release) but for some reason us users forget that. Okay the update process was horrible with IOS4 on my 3G, but following those steps above, at least now I have a workable phone, which is zippier in some ways. Games for one seem to run smoother in iOS4. I'll give Apple a bit of time to get the problems ironed out.
    I hope this helps others.
    - T.

  • Did anyone try to restore after the ios4 update?

on 2gt or 3gt restore then add all your stuff back in? did it fix the ios4 problems?? the guy at apple told me to do so but i dont want to lose all my game progress.

When you choose to restore it will go ahead and reset your iPod and then it will ask you if you want to set it up as new or restore your settings from your backup. If you do this, and there are no errors, you won't lose your data. I've done it a dozen times since iOS 4 and it has not resolved any of the issues at all.

  • Loss of Phone and Data Connection

I have lost all phone and data connection with AT&T on my iPhone 3Gs. Yet my wife's non-Apple phone has fine connection.
    Is this a iOS4 problem?
AT&T said they reboot my phone remotely, but that did not help.
Any suggestions? Other than buy an Android.

I'm having the exact same problem. It just started happening over the last 3 days but it worked fine before that. I upgraded to ios4 the day it came out but didn't start experiencing these problems until 3 days ago. I'm in Canada on the Bell network.
If it turn the off and on again it will work for a little while but then I will lose service again sometimes a few minutes later and sometimes a few hours later.
I've tried shutting it down and starting it and rebooting it and nothing has fixed this.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks
    Dave
