how do i get ios4,xxx?

    The 4.1 version for 3 gs is the best one .
    as far  as 5.1 its considerably slows the 3gs and 4.3.3 has known issues like  wifi signal dropping and battery drain. so you must stay on  ios 4.1 for your 3gs.

    iPhone 3G in a coma state though I was using iOS4 for a while (until today that is). Now "restored" to iOS4.2.
    The problem still persists. When it's plugged into PC and charging, pressing Power / Home button always wakes iPhone from lock / sleep.
    When taken off power, it still allows me to wake the phone from lock / sleep, but only if I do it every 5 seconds. After around 5 seconds, pressing the Power / Home button doesn't wake the phone from sleep, therefore necessitating a Hard Reboot (Power + Home held for 10 seconds).
    There's also a very visible lag when using anything, even though my phone has no songs / apps / videos in it anymore.
    When calling to the iPhone or sending SMS', the sender finds as though the iPhone is working, but the iPhone itself makes no response to show that a message has been received or that it is being called.
    This is just infuriating, because if it can't do any of the other functions, it could at least be usable as a phone
    This is an emergency, I don't know how to get ahold of another phone, and I have exams for which I need my phone to coordinate things like transport, or calls /messages from the exam centre.

    No help, anyone ?
    It feels such a waste to have a perfectly usable and amazing (though apparently obsolete) phone which can't be used for a tiny little bug when it's not connected to the charging station :C

    iOS 6 can be loaded without problem on the 3GS.  Not all features are supported however.
    With respect to your reading people are having trouble, what did you expect to see on this technical support forum?  People don't write in to state they have a trouble-free upgrade.

    Having all those problems said with 3g/s running on iOS 4.X why wont they let us just downgrade back to 3.1.3 officially until they find a way on how to solve issues with 3g/s?
    About the downgrade method of life hacker, if you're really not good in those things you might actually ruin your pc like my friend who tried it, she lost her wifi on her notebook, i had to help her find the installer of the driver again. this happened after she tried to install that libusb that is needed to run the application for exit recovery mode and other stuff.
    Yes iOS 4.1 is out but contacts disappearing? And who knows what more problems it brings. I was even peeking around the iphone 4 forums it seems that they are not doing well either.
    Anyway mine is all fine except that im afraid to use wifi or any apps that needs internet connection because everytime i do, my 3gs gets very very hot. I have already done the basic solution suggested by apple (factory reset, start from new iphone) but its still the same.
    And another thing, the multitasking is getting annoying, you have to manually close all apps in the 'multitasking background' everytime you decide to quit an app. I guess they should put a 'Disable multitasking' or something like that.

    If you are having problems it is NOT from 4.0; there is something else wrong with your phone. There are plenty of troubleshooting tips in the forum if you look.

    NO YOU DO NOT. Those apps in the ribbon are not multitasking, they are suspended. You can ignore them and they won't hurt battery life or memory, unless they are streaming apps like Pandora.
    It's amazing. For 3 years people screamed about the fact that the iPhone didn't support multitasking. Now they scream because the phone DOES multitasking. You can't win.

    Contacts are in the supported application on the computer. On a Mac that is Address Book, on a Windows computer that is Outlook, Windows Contact depending on the version of OS you are using.

  • IOS4 feature chart for 3GS

    I looked on Apple's iOS4 web page but all it says is that some of the features won't work on the 3G and/or 3GS, using multitasking and the 3G as an example.
    Does anyone know if Apple has a table/chart somewhere showing exactly what features won't work on the earlier models? For example I know that FaceTime won't work on the 3G/GS models.

    As celliot147 says, the 3GS will get all the features except the ones that rely on the hardware of the new iphone. Have to say I am really looking forward to the update after being at the genius bar of my local Apple store to get a replacement data cable today. The guy helping me had iOS4 on his 3GS already and let me have a go, well impressed with the way it multitasks and the folders.
    This update will keep me going till contract runs out next year and then think it is going to have to be a PAYG IP4 to keep my unlimited data contract.

  • IOS4 in 3GS hanging for more than 2 minutes!

    My iPhone 3GS is hanging after I press END before, during and afters calls. This never happened in 3.1.3!
    Sometimes it stays like that for more than 2 minutes, than it shows the unable to complete call message.
    It looks like it is losing the carrier signal and tries to reconnect.
    Any ideas to avoid this?

    Have you tried restoring the iPhone or hard resetting it by holding the Home and Hold button until it switches off?

  • Notes app not holding changes since new iOS4 update for 3GS

    I didn't notice it right after the update, but I've noticed that recently my Notes app (the one that came on the iPhone) isn't working correctly. I use this app for a ton of things, & it's VERY frustrating for it to not work. So I've got a note I've been trying to update, & when I make a change, it doesn't stick. It completely goes away, as if I never made any changes. But this problem seems to be random, because as far as I can tell, another note of mine seems to be letting me make changes. SOMEONE PLZ HELP!!!

    Is there a way to get the notes that were created in my email acct folders into my iPhone folder? I didn't even realize I had these different folders until a few notes after the update. How does it even determine which folder it saves a new note into anyways?!?! Well thank you for your reply. I think this will solve my initial problem. Now to just figure out how to get all my notes into my iPhone folder for notes. sigh ...

    this is not fair. There are a lot of ppl outside having trouble after their 3GS updated to ios5. APPLE should let us choose which version to update to, or even downgrade. I believe there must be some work around to archive this.
    I tried to download iPhone2,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw, and when update in i-tune, i press SHIFT button (Win), it allow me to choose the ipsw file, but after that i-tune prevent me to continue. Anyone tried to update using method and success before?

    There is no official Apple site to download older iOS versions. Even if you could download it, you can't install it using your current version of OS X as listed in your profile.

  • IOS4 on 3GS - photos cannot import to PC

    Had my iphone 3GS upgrade to iOS4, problem is that photos taken after the upgrade are not able to import to PC when i connect my iphone to PC.
    Photos taken after the upgrade are stored in camera roll , old photos were syc. to camera roll too. But when I connect my iphone to pc and open the camera folder through iphone drive on pc, those new photos were not found (but still exists in camera roll on iphone). Even I restored my iphone and all photos (both taken before and after upgrade) did syn. to iphone camera roll. Photos taken after upgrade are still not found on PC iphone drive.
    Did anyone got same issue? Anyone knows how to fix it? Many Thanks.

  • Bug sending pictures iOS4 on 3GS

    I find that the mail app of iOS4 on a 3GS is NOT working properly. There are so many bugs, but the following one really annoys me:
    This is what I need to do 1 out of 2 times if I want to email a picture taken with my camera: 1) go to camera roll, 2) choose a pic, click 'email photo', 3) compose email, 4) click 'send', +5) restart phone!+, 6) wait 2 minutes, 7) open mail, go to folder view, 8) go to 'outbox' (created by the mail app, but only shows up after restarting!!), 9) open the email again, 10) click 'send' again, 11) go to 'sent-folder' to double check it was sent this time.
    50% of the time, I 'only' need to go to 'outbox' and click 'send' again. (so don't need to restart for that outbox folder to appear).
    I find the exact same behaviour when emailing address book cards.
    I was wondering whether I am extremely unlucky or whether more people experience this after the 'upgrade' to iOS4
