IOS4.3 Update Causes Heavy Battery Usage

Since updating to iOS 4.3, the battery usage on my 3GS has skyrocketed - 2% per half hour with no calling or internet - just regular email access. No new location services were enabled. Anybody else have this problem?

Hmm, I'm running the same drivers and xcompmgr on awesome as well, but not getting any of that. Heres my xorg.conf

The only thing that comes to mind is that your card might be having either powermizer issues, or overheating maybe?

WHEN U UPDATES N72 TO 2 TO 5TH VERSION IT IS SEEN THAT IT USES MORE BATTERY EVEN ON REGULAR USE!

  • IPad iOS 6.1.2 update causing excessive battery drain

I have noticed in other discussions that a number of iPhone users have experienced excessive battery drain after updating to iOS 6.1.2.
I am now experiencing this problem in a big way after updating to iOS 6.1.2 on an iPad 3.   Prior to this update, my battery life was very good, dropping to only 70% to 80% at the end of a typical day of use.
After the update, which was said to be to fix a previious Mail Exchange battery drain issue (one that I was not experiencing), my battery was dropping to 30% after a few hours.   It was literally like holding a bucket with a hole in the bottom and watching the water drain out.
I noticed that my Usage time and Standby time were identical, even though the ipad had been in sleep mode much of the time.   This indicates to me that something about this patch is causing the iPad not to actually sleep when in sleep mode.
The iPhone discussion forums point to a number of possible fixes, including uninstalling all emails and re-installing them all the way to a total erasure and reinstalation of everything.  This worked for some, but not for all victims of this problem.
Until Apple recognizes this problem and sends out another update, one less painful solution that worked for me was to change all of my email accounts from Push to Fetch every 15 minutes.   This has stopped the problem for me, for now. so I wanted to share this in case anyone else is experiencing similar problems.
If other community members have discovered other short term or long term fixes then please do post here.
Apple, I await an update that will allow me to restore Push functionality, or instructions on what steps will work to properly restore full functionality (what to remove and reinstall etc).

Just to confirm that I have the same problem.  I updated to iOS6.1.2 on Friday 1 March 2013, I have an iPad2.  And Saturday morning my iPad was 0% after having nodded off on a 78% full battery.  This has NEVER happened before, and has become a daily occurrence.  I have now amended my Mail to fetch and hope it works.

  • Finder has heavy CPU usage: Causing fan to spin constantly

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Leopard. The upgrade went perfectly. The only thing thats annoying me is that the FINDER is causing heavy CPU usage which is causing my MacBook's fan to spin constantly. I've figured out that the problem is most likely FINDER from the Activity Monitor (I've found that stopping finder eventually causes the fans to spin down and eventually stop.)
Are other people having this problem, let me know? Is apple aware of this problem and will they fix it?

    Hi
I'm not sure whether this helps, but I've noticed that having icon preview switched on (View - Show View Options) can result in a significant amount of CPU usage if you open a folder containing a large number of files, or a small number of movie files etc. On my older Mac, opening a folder containing a handful of WMV files can result in 20 seconds of 50% CPU usage, as it attempts to replace each generic icon with a content specific icon. I have a hunch it's actually opening QuickTime (and Flip4Mac) transparently in the background to capture a frame from each movie and use it as the icon. In the end I switched icon preview off - by default it seems to be on in Leopard. I guess it's most likely to affect older Macs and laptops, in terms of the CPU percentage required. It also seems to result in a fair bit of disk activity as well, again most likely to affect laptops.

  • Heavy battery drain after OS Update 10.3.1.1779

couple of days ago my phone (Z10) upgraded to new software version 10.3.1.1779. Now the battery barely lasts four to five hours. Usually not more than four. Is this a f****ng joke, Blackberry?!  I checked and I constantly have PIM services at 30-40 %, which is the main battery drainer. Following the suggestions on some of the forums I tried deleting accounts and found one that - being deleted - solves the problem. However, when I add it again it drains the battery again. The point is that i MUST have it on. this is mail only, no calendars, contacts. When I add it I left the phone overnight to download all it needed, 12 hours later PIM services still run at 30-40% all the time. Reloading the software does not help either.  pls help, I am running out the ideas... I can't keep my phone connected to charger at all times...

After any OS upgrade on a BB10 device, it will take 48-72 hours for the device data syncing of email, contacts, social apps, etc., to complete and finish. High data transfer after an upgrade cause high processor use, which in turn causes high battery usage. Likewise, high processor use will cause some lag and initial slowness. Ignore and and be patient. It can take the 48 hours for all contacts to sync back to the device. And, the battery will recover after a few days. Just don't drain your battery to 10% or less each time, top off the charge. You'll notice a difference after a couple days. Additionally, look at your Device Manager and in the top pull down menu tap LAST 24 HOURSTap the Battery tab at bottom. What are the top 3-4 processes draining the battery?Tap the CPU tab, what are the top 3-4 processes using the CPU?

  • HT4972 Why has this upgrade caused my data usage to go up?

Why has the iOS 5 update caused my data usage to increase so much?

I was wondering when the iOS 5.1 came out, not the new one that is out now.  He did not say that downloading the upgrade caused the increase.  He made it sound like new functions in the software caused it.  Since Nov 2011 my data usage has increased from an average of around 30MB for the previous 7 months to an average of 136MB over the last 7 months.  I have not changed the things that I do on my phone.

My ipod touch 4g just updates today on itunes and the update caused more trouble than good for me. My ipod will no longer show me the battery percentage in the top right hand corner and I am not allowed to drag other applications to the bottom panel. Also my itunes doesn't allow "enable disk use" anymore. Can anyone help? My ipod now says that it's the 4.3.4 version

    - Unjailbroken iPod never showed % battery.  Just the icon.
    - Unjailbroken iPod Touches never had a disk mode.
    - What happens when you try to drag a wiggling app to a empty space in the bottom? Does it move and snap back?

  • My battery life between charges on my ipad 1 has plummeted to about 2 hours.  The guy at the genius bar suggested it might be an app (unfortunately I didn't have the device with me).  Does anyone know of apps that cause heavy drains on power?  Thanks!

The battery life between charges on my iPad has plummeted to about 2 hours.  The guy at the genius bar said the charge should last about 10 hours and suggested it might be an app (unfortunately I didn't have the device with me and the nearest Apple Store to me is 2 hours away).  Does anyone know of apps that cause heavy drains on power?  It also does not charge when it is plugged into my MacBook while I am using the iPad but it does when I am not using the iPad.  I mostly use the iPad to read e-mails, play Team Lava games, read books through iBooks or Kobo and the ABC Player.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

Restore is about the only option left, short reinstalling the whole thing as new.
Before you restore, go to I tunes and turn off automatic sync.  Then plug the machine in.  Upload any photos that you have taken with the pad into I photos, or where ever you keep your pictures.  Then, in I tunes, transfer any purchases.
If any apps or purchased music get lost in the process, you can download them again for free.
You do not want to make a backup of what you have on the pad now. If you do, when you restore, you will simply recreate the same problem.
What you want to do is restore from a prior backup.  Do that.
Then run the system status app and see what the CPU numbers look like.  If they are ok, then you can start to re add apps until the problem shows up.
If this does not do it, then the last step is to set the pad up as new.  Check the numbers, then add the apps and settings back one by one.    While it is likely to be an app, it may be a setting somewhere.

  • Does SMS relay iOS 8.1 cause extra iPhone battery usage?

I was messing with both SMS relay the other day and noticed that my battery drained almost twice as fast..
I was also messing with handoff and basically just testing the new integration features between Yosemite and iOS8.1
But my question is about SMS relay.. Does anyone know if this will us up more iPhone battery than if I wasn't using SMS relay and just SMSing from the iPhone itself?
Does SMS relay work via bluetooth? Could this be a cause for extra battery usage? It could be possible that I was jus using my phone a bit extra that day but I just want to make sure as I have SMS relay turned off for now, don't want battery life dropping..
    -Frank

I had the same problem. I realized that it had everything to do with my calendar app. My iCalendar was having a difficult time fetching information from my Outlook and Yahoo Calendar. Causing my battery percentage to decline at a very rapid rate. (50% in a 4 hour time frame). I resolved the  problem by going into my Settings >" Messaging , Contact , Calendar" Setting > Clicking on one of my selected Accounts ( Outlook or Yahoo) and turning off the Calendar Sync. The problem seemed to go away after doing this. Now I'm only using 4% battery life in a 4 hour time frame in StandBy Mode. Well I Can only hope that this will help resolve the battery drainage issue. Good Luck ....

  • Installed iOS 5.0.1 battery update, no change poor usage!!!  1-3% per min crap

IOS 5.0.1 useless :( no change

Just to balance things out a bit - I was also suffering from the rapid battery loss (5.0), which was resolved (hackily) by turning off a number of location services.
Installed 5.0.1 (OTA) last night, and turned all location services (app and system) back on, battery usage during  first 3 hours of today is 5%(estimate it will take 60% batter to cover usage over a full day).
Happy with update, and a definte measurable change.

  • Heavy Battery Drain after updating to 8.1 Lumia Cy...

After updating my Lumia 1520 to 8.1 Cyan update, the battery drain is very high. The battery is lasting only for 6 to 7 hours when the data traffic is on  (under  mixed use of 2G and 3G modes). I have noticed few other users were also experiencing heavy battery drain after the Cyan update.
Will there be an update to fix this battery drain issue?
When the phone was in WP 8 Lumia Black update, battery backup was around 24-30 hrs (when data traffic was on).
What will be the workaround for this?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yep, my 1520 battery drains like a helicopter that's lost it's rotor after this 8.1 update.
I was just boasting last weekend how awesome the battery life was on this phone, I drove 300mi with the GPS w/navigation, did some tethering to my laptop for work, went overnight..no charging, used lightly all the next day, few pictures, email, browsing, phone calls, and drove 300mi back on GPS/navigation and I still had 38% battery left.
I updated to 8.1 sunday night, and on my normal commute to a customer in another state, which under 8.0 would have drained oh...mabey 4-5%, I was at 62% by the time I got to this customer yesteday.
All I did was make a phone call, that's it. All background stuff is not allowed. location off, cortana off, ...still drains.
Bad bad bad news. I'm not seeing much usefull ness out of 8.1, and considering the battery life and no real new features....just gimmicks if you ask me, I'm not sure I want to stay at 8.1 . I'm trying to give it a chance...battery life is still better than my POS samsung androids I've had in the past, but knowing how good it really can be...and no real features in 8.1 (I was hopeing they'd fix the imap email not allowed to map sent/trash/inbox issue)....eshh...what a mess it seems.

  • IOS 7.0.2 update causes overheating and severe battery drain

IOS 7.0.2 update causes overheating and severe battery drain. Before the update my 4S battery life can reached up to 2days  now the battery won’t last longer than 2 hours or less especially when its overheat.
Apple should release another update to fix their problem ASAP, also Apple should replace our 4S unit because our battery now is degraded and probably some of the parts are damage because of the extreme overheating caused by Apple update…
Anyone who can tweak this issue please post..
    Thanks

We also had an issue with IOS 7 refusing to accept the Apple ID and password (not the passcode) and this update appears to have fixed that as well. This problem surfaced on my wife's and my son's ioPhone, but not on mine.

  • Excessive battery usage since IOS 8 update

    Help!!!
I've a iphone 4s & have recently completed the IOS 8 update on my handset
Ever since completing this, my battery 'usage' has been excessive & my phone never lasts more than 7-8 hrs even though for the majority of this time, the handset is locked & in my pocket at work!!!
Prior to this update, I'd return home from work with at least 30-40% battery life but now the handsets died before I finish my shift!!!! Frustrating is an understatement.....
Another example is after charging fully this morning, my handset says its been on standby for 2hrs 5 mins yet has been used for 1 hr 45 mins..... I've been asleep for most of this time so how does that work?!?!
Please can you provide me with an idiots guide to reducing this ridiculous level of 'usage'
Many thanks for your help in advance

my phone not working properly after updating to that too ,is there any way to get back to ios 7 ???

  • Heavy battery drain in iOS7 with iPhone 5

    Hello everyone,
As soon as Apple announced its newer upgrade, iOS 7, i've installed that but i noticed a heavy battery drain in my iphone 5. For example, yesterday night i charged my phone to 100 % and by today's morning it was at 77% ( without any usage). I can see the battery percent decreasing with my eyes. in iOS6, i used to get 24 hours stand by and 7 hours usage in 3g cellular and wifi but in iOS, i didnt even get 3 hours of usage in 3g cellular or wifi.
I got an error after downloading of 753MB of iOS 7 upgrade, i guess it is something like "error in downloading or something" and i discarded that error message and it was asked me to click on "install" option and it was restarted and installed the new OS to my mobile. Everything seems good except battery drain and weather app, which always shows "Haze" even though my city was experiencing thunderstorms. A half sun covered by clouds or ground in the "Now" position. Not even updating.
I tried restarting and resetting the phone with network settings but of no use.
    Any help??
    Thanks

I wouldn't restore at this point.
I would do this:  re-calibrate the battery.
Let the battery drain until the phone is completely dead. (the iPhone powers-itself off!)
plug it in and allow it to charge to 100% [do NOT use it, do NOT unplug it]
This will re-calibrate the charging circuitry with what is reported. It's often likely that the battery report is a false one.
At 100% charge, use the phone normally and watch the performance of the battery.

  • Z10 - High CPU and Battery Usage with BBM

I recently updated my Z10 (UK and EE Carrier) to 10.2.1.3062 and every day or so I am getting very high CPU and Battery Usage with BBM running in the background.
I have never used BBM and have no active or past conversations or contacts.
This morning, it used around 60% battery in under 3 hours, with 95% of that time sat at 'idle' in my pocket.
Sometimes its after I have connected it to my car stereo (charging and streaming music via USB) on an Alpine CDA-117Ri, but I dont think thats a cause.
