IOS4: Google app presents RED header upon off/sleep?

A friend pointed this behavior to me. Under iOS4, launch the Google app. And then -- at least on a 3GS -- press the On/Off (aka Sleep/Wake) button atop the phone. This turns off the display of course. Next, press the Home button. The screen will have a RED header atop with Google in the heading. Sliding to unlock returns you to the Google app whereupon the red header disappears. Pressing Home again (thus effectively backgrounding the Google app) returns you to the home screen and without the red header. Turning off the phone again using the top button and then Home again does NOT display the red header; i.e. the backgrounded Google app doesn't do this. Now, does anyone know what this means?

I just noticed this happen on my iPhone yesterday. I thought maybe it was an iOS warning that an app using the GPS was running while the phone was sleeping but I tested some other GPS-using apps that that wasn't the case. Then I thought perhaps it's telling me that the microphone is activated, so I launched Voice Memos, started a recording, paused it and then used the On/Off button to turn off the display. When I turned it back on there was a red banner, but instead of having "Google" on it, it read "Recording Paused". So, I think it has to do with the microphone being active.

  • Google Apps account now showing Unknown Error when trying to sign in

This is a post I made over at webosnation.com, but no one knows what's going on over there (but a handful of people are having the same problem).
For some reason my main email account has decided to fly off a cliff on both my FrankenPre2 and my TouchPad. The things I've tried from searching around the net:
    -Changing my password
-Making sure the new password does NOT use any special characters
-Removing the account from my Pre and re-adding it
-Disabling multiple sign-on from the Google side (I had it linked to the account I use for Google Voice)
-Removing all patches from my Pre
None of these things have had any effect. When I put a wrong password in it comes back with an invalid password error. The correct password bring back an Unknown Error.
The funny thing is I have a 2nd Google Apps account set up on both devices for work, and that hasn't had any problems.  What makes this even weirder is my friend who owns the Google Apps domain I'm on has a TouchPad with his account set up on it and it works fine. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Exchange 2010 Google Apps Split Delivery

The situation I'm facing is a little confusing.
Our organization has Exchange 2010 email accounts in place for all staff with an address scheme of
    [email protected]
We recently signed up for Google Apps and are using the same domain name for those accounts as well.
These accounts are for our students with the address scheme of
    [email protected].
With using the same domain name we are looking to a split delivery solution I’m assuming to make this work.
In theory what we are looking for would be that if an email is sent to a recipient at mydomain.com it would come through our Exchange server.
It would look for the intended email account.  If it were for a staff member an account would be present and the mail would stop there.
However if it were for a student it would not find the account and then pass through to Google’s servers by way of a send receiver.
I have set up the send receivers according to the documentation from the following website:
    http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/38537-ms-exchange-and-google-apps-split-delivery-for-single-domain-name-k-12-school-sample-shown
    These steps include-
Setting the accepted domain from “Authoritative” to “Internal Relay”
Setting up a send connector to point to Google’s servers with a cost of 1 to make it priority.
Since we currently have a send connector setup to route email out through our spam filter, that would go to a cost of 2.
The issue seems to be that when the send connector that is pushing the mail to Google’s servers is set to a cost of 1, giving it priority, it then creates a send loop for the staff members sending
    email from Exchange.
The Google student accounts do not receive any mail from outside without a send connector in place to tell the emails to go to the Google servers to look for those accounts since our MX records
point to our spam filter.  I know I have read multiple place that it would be easier to have the MX records point to Google for the domain and then set up routing on that end to push email to unknown accounts to our Exchange server, however
we would like to route it the opposite of that.
Please let me know if I have overlooked anything, however at this point I’m stumped.
    Thank you for your time.

What are the namespaces on the two connectors ?
    Cheers,
    Rhoderick

  • The app store screen is way off to the right and stuck with the spinning wheel. I can't close it. Should I force close? It said iPhoto did not update.

The App Store screen is way off to the right so I can't access it. It has the little spinning wheel I can see when I swipe up to see what's open. It won't close. Should I try to force it? How much more time should I give it? I did just give Google some accessibily access that it asked for. Just upgraded to Maverick. I thought everything was fine. Says iPhoto needs a retry; but I can't get to the screen to try again. Pages also says it has an update; but also says it just updated.

    Thank Carolyn,
I had tried that; but to restart it had to close, and to close it had to close the App Store, which was stuck. Finally did a force close. Am now trying to update iPhoto. We'll see if works this time.

  • Corporate Google Apps and new Nokia Messaging

    Hi there,
I have just downloaded new messaging client from messaging.nokia.com for my E71 and I must say it is a big improvement.
It works great with my personal Google Apps domain (jandi.co.uk) but doesn't work for our work one (symbian.org). Our MX records at work are a bit different as we go through Postini so wonder if it is not autosensing that it is Google or something. Obviously we would like to get this working at the Symbian Foundation! I am head of IT so can set you up dummy accounts etc as needed so we can work on improving this.
    Steps to reproduce:
    - go into add mailbox from options
    - select google mail
    - enter email address [email protected]
    - enter password
    - enter yes at prompt
    - goes completing email setup
    - then says "unable to connect with the information provided. Please try again"
NB This also fails when trying to register on messaging.nokia.com
    Ian McDonald
    Head of IT, Symbian Foundation

    Hi Ian,
is the symbian.org an imap or pop account?
The Nokia server needs to know the settings otherwise it doesn't work.
Please tell me the servers (pop or imap and smtp)
    Regards,
    Tobias

  • Setup for dual delivery with Google Apps

    Hi,
I am trying to get SLS to funnel all outbound email through Google Apps Premium. The idea is to have Google Apps as a backup for my users (small company) in case I loose my internet connection or the server goes down.
Incoming email gets delivered to both my server and Google Apps. I can send email from both as well and it gets delivered. It looks like Google is correctly forwarding email to my SLS.
What I need is to have my server send outbound email through the Google Apps servers so that 'sent mail' in Google Apps matches my server's.
I tried to set this up in 10.6 server, by setting up the relay option to smtp.gmail.com in mail admin. I get an error message about STARTTLS. Is there a way to get Mail to connect with the google smtp servers via the required secure connection and port 587? Also, how do I set this up without all my email getting flagged as spam.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Not quite the same situation but when I was testing the google apps migrator tool on my 10.5.8 server, I had similar issues getting it to connect over TLS/SSL. The google server didn't support cram-md5 login apparently which I believe is the default on most OS X servers. I had to enable either login or plan+clear (I can't recall the exact one that fixed it but I'm pretty sure it was the combo of plain+clear).
In doing this, make sure you're using SSL (I had issues getting google to use TLS, google lets you specify TLS or SSL) obviously since the password would otherwise be cleartext in doing the above as opposed to cram-md5 which at least has some level of encryption associated with it. SMTP has the same login options as IMAP so you very well could be experiencing the same issue.
Not sure this will help you since I understand your situation is different but just a heads up.

  • Apple Mail, Google Apps and One User

Every time I receive mail from one user, and only one user, my email POP freezes and will not download any more messages until the message from that user is removed from the server.
There is nothing special about the messages.
We use Google Apps mail and it also happens when I redirect the message to my gmail.com account.
I must force quit apple mail and reopen after the message is gone. It downloads the message but will not download subsequent messages.
It didn't start happening until this summer and every other message I receive behaves normally.
It is very frustrating because the person is a very important client who sends me quite a bit of mail. Any advise? Thank you in advance!

BTW, it also happens when I redirect to non-google mail (rackspace cloud sites). The messages originate from mx1.cbeyond.com if that helps. Here is the full header with email addresses and subjects redacted:

  • Google Apps account will not sync

I have a domain set up with Google Apps, and I sync (through BIS) several email addresses within the domain. All the accounts apart from one sync correctly.
The only differences between the account that fails and the others are that the failing account is the domain administrator and has a large number of emails. All the accounts have 2 step authentication on and a backdoor password for the Blackberry.
Whenever I add the account in (either through Vodafones Blackberry BIS website OR through the phone email settings) everything works and the password is accepted as valid but five minutes later I get an "Action Required. Update Settings for..." email saying I have to validate the account (validation also works fine but then 5 minutes later I get another "Action Required" message).
Has anyone had similar problems and managed to work around this issue? Does anyone know why this could be happening?
The failing email account limits the number of emails per folder to 1,000 and I have tried turning POP/IMAP on and off (though they seem to reset themselves).
Thank you for any help you can offer!

  • Can't setup an exist google app account in Thunderbird

I use macbook, with os 10.9.5.
My email account is provide by google app,
I can login on web Gmail, and Mac's mail box.
But I just can't login with same account and password when I setup Thunderbird.
(BTW, my another gmail account can setup successfully on Thunderbird.)

    Hi Ratboy,
Did you go into keychain access manager and just delete that particular keychain entry all together? Might as well at this point to make sure there isn't some odd saved information that's getting called upon and failing the authentication.
In mail, is the account configured as IMAP or POP? If it's IMAP, I'd go ahead and delete the account and recreate it. If it's POP, I'd go into ~/Library/Mail (copy the folder's content to your Desktop) then delete the account and recreate it.

    Hello All Who Read This!
I just bought an iPhone 5 on the 21st of March. I ate through 850 MB's in 12 days. I read up on the issue of data consumption looking for tips to conserve data. I did not know there was a problem.
This morning I found out that I was leaking data very little, but daily it accumulates. I am in Barcelona, Spain. I do not have a contract, I am on a prepaid Yoigo carrier.
I happened upon an article/blog by Robert Parks at snnyc.com "problems persist in ios 6.1.2.".
Although his situation did not relate to me, I tried a few tests on my own to see if I could stop the data leak without turning off my celular data and possibly push notifications, I think I found a solution that might help someone:
In ios 6.1.3 goto Settings/Mail, Contacts,Calenders and scroll down to Calendars and turn off " New Invitation Alerts" and also turn off "Shared Calendar Alerts".
My Cellular Network Data seems to be behaving. I only see a change in MB used when I open an ap that uses data.

  • I'm having trouble setting up my Google Apps for Education email address in the mail app

I have tried several times and different ways to add my .edu email account to the iOs system through the mail app on both my mac and my iphone. It is run through Google apps for education, so it uses gmail as a platform but is addressed as my school's title. On a few occasions it wouldn't accept it to add, on others it connected but wouldn't access the email account once it was added.

The approaches available may differ depending upon which operating system you have.  I am running OS 10.8.4 and on my computer, the following works:
Go to System Preferences and select Mail, Contacts, & Calendars.
From the right, choose Gmail; this should open an dialogue box, where you should enter:
Your name (as you wish it to appear)
Email address (should include the @whatever.edu, where whatever is the appropriate university extension--it should be .edu, not gmail.com)
    The password on the account.
Choose the applications you want to sync with your computer and click Add Account. You will probably get an error about Mail Server Discovery, but click Continue anyway.
Launch your Mail application and it should have you setup your account. Choose/enter the following:
    Account type: IMAP
Title Description: (put whatever you want the account titled, it's up to you)
Incoming Mail Server: type in imap.gmail.com
User Name: put your full email username, including the @whatever.edu
Password: put your email password again
Configure the outgoing mail server with:
Description: whatever you want it called
Outgoing Mail server: type in smtp.gmail.com
    Check the option Use Authentication
Username: type your full username, including the @whatever.edu
Enter your password and click Continue and then Create.
    That should be it.

  • Trouble sending to google apps hosted domains

We recently migrated to a new AD domain with a new Exchange 2013 box.  Prior to that we were on Exchange 2007 in a different domain.  We use postini for our spam/virus filtering.
Since we've moved to the Exchange 2013 solution, we have started having issues with some (not all) Google apps hosted domains.  The firewall and IP of the server stayed the same regardless of the change.  I looked into routing all of our outbound
mail (or just specific domains) through Postini to help with this issue, but their instructions work for 2007 and 2010 - not 2013.  I tried setting it up with their directions, but modifying it for 2013, but that was a big failure.  We are seeing
    message delayed codes returned.
Remote Server returned '400 4.4.7 Message delayed'
I did some research through Google Apps, but the only thing I found is a server reboot, which does nothing.
I have it working right now by routing everything for these Google Apps hosted domains by creating a separate send connector that routes through smtp.google.com as a smart host (using a gmail ID and password) but that's only going to work for so many messages
before it bombs, and we won't even get a notification.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you cannot send message to google apps hosted domains after upgrading to exchange 2013. correct?
I recommend you post the header of the returned mail, it will help us to troubleshoot the issue.
In addition, I recommend use "Nslookup" to resolve these host domains in your server, and check the result.
If any misunderstanding, please feel free let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Mail works even worse with Gmail and Google apps after upgrade

I had good hopes that Apple would solve the mail issues with the 10.9.2 update, but unfortunately it seems that now the synchronization between Gmail/Google apps is completely off.
After archiving a message in my mail application the message remains in my inbox in Google apps and Gmail.
When I was using 10.9.1 this was not the case, I only suffered delay in receiving mails and could not manually move a message from my inbox to the all messages box.
I have Outlook on my Mac, which came with Office, but never configured it.
Do I really need to start to use that programm?

Googles version of an IMAP system works poorly with most clients. If you are going to use it then choosing a client that works the way Google wants them too is a wise course.
Of that breed MailPlane is easily the best, AirMail is a solid second.

  • Sync Google Apps w/ BB10

This knowledge base article seems to be a bit off, at least from my experience. It states that to sync Google Cal, using CalDAV, to enter https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/<emailaddress>/events
In fact, it's a lot simpler, I entered only www.google.com  in the server address field and successfully synced my Google calendar. The same was used to sync my Google contacts, but at CardDAV.

Unfortunately no, not at all.  I've tried these boards which were obviously fruitless on this question.  I've tried the Genius Bar.  And I've tried other technical resources.  I do not believe it's possible at this point.
"Little stuff" like this....  it's seemingly relatively trivial in the grand scheme of things, but can be real productivity killers when I have to go back and forth between Apple's Contacts software and the actual Google Apps/Gmail web UI.  It's these little things that create quirks between Google Apps and Mac OS that almost make me want to return to Exchange.  It's much more expensive and other than Outlook and Calendar/Mail/Contacts, there's no virtually no interoperability options on the Mac.  But at least it's consistent and I know what will work and what won't.
On the other hand, I could also solve this problem by simply putting ALL of my contacts in my Google Apps account into the "My Contacts" folder.  But that kinda defeats the purpose of having a "My Contacts" folder.
Sorry Steven--I wish I had a better update or a resource to point you to, but I'm at the end of the road on this one.

Let's get those applications working for you! Many of the pre-installed Google applications cannot be removed, so what I recommend is going into Settings>Apps>All, then select the apps and if available, tap 'disable' or 'uninstall updates'. After that, please turn the phone off and back on. Next, you will either go back into Apps to enable the applications, or go into the Play store and update appropriately. Keep me posted!
