IOS4 Has messed up my equalizer settings

Ever since updating to iOS4 on my 3GS, my equalizer settings are all very, VERY quiet. Even the setting Loudness is about half as quiet as when I have the Equalizer turned off completely. All other settings are acting similarly.
Anyone else having the same issues?

I think I had the same issue ...I noticed that on my iPhone 4 all my music seemed low..using the EQ...Not using the EQ....I even compared it to my 3g and I could notice a considerable difference in loudness(3G with iOS4 was louder than my iPhone 4). Then I noticed that if I was listening to a song and I hit the back button, the song would replay much louder(comparable to the 3g)..So I did a hard reset of my iPhone 4 and the issue seemed to correct itself..It was weird to say the least...

  • Firefox 4 has messed up my iGoogle Settings and won't allow it to function. Yet IE 8.6 handles it fine. What is the problem?

Firefox 4 is preventing me from changing/moving/ editing any gadgets I have on my iGoogle page. Several of the gadgets don't show any content or even a title. I checked my iGoogle settings in I.E. and everything works in it. What changed in Firefox 4 that prevents iGoogle from working correctly? My husband who hasnot upgraded to Firefox 4 is not having the same problems with his iGoogle settings which is revealing. I know I am not the only person experiencing this and yet, this idiotic way you are making me jump through hoops to get information claimed this question had not been asked befoe. Come on Mozilla, let's get this fixed. It's been over a week now. I hate using I.E. and much prefer Firefox. Don't drive me and countless others away.

I run Avast! anti-virus. My igoogle homepage listed my gadgets along the left side, but the rest of the screen was just blank white.
I turned off the 'web rep' application from Avast! and the my gadgets were right back where they were supposed to be.
I hope Firefox can clear this up, as I like the 'web rep' option....

  • Installing tiger has messed up my postfix settings

A long time ago I downloaded postfix and set it up to smtp emails from a domain where I do not have any other outgoing mail server. This was under 10.2.8, which doesn't include postfix as part of the OS.
Since I installed 10.4.3, I can't send mail from these accounts, which I assume is because tiger has overwritten my postfix installation.
Anyone help me out how to sort this out. Its so long since I did this I really can't remember how I got it working.

May I ask what editor you used? The only thing I can think of is that it might have introduced Mac-type line endings instead of unix ones. It is pretty easy to fix. If you used vim or pine or emacs or some unix type editor, I doubt that is what happened. If it is textedit, or some other Mac-ish editor, it MIGHT be what happened, but it is pretty much a blind shot in the quail field.
You see some ^M in the file if you display hidden characters or more the file or vi the file.
If it does happen to be mac line endings, it is pretty easy to fix, so don't worry (yet). You can issue
    sudo perl -pi.bak -e 's/\r/\n/g' <filename>
That changes them to unix line endings if they are in there, and creates a backup of the original file with a .bak suffix (which you can later discard if you are comfortable with the changes.
If that is not what happened, I am stumped.

  • Help! The toddler has messed up my InDesign settings!

Running InDesign CS on a newer iMac, and our little one somehow got in front of the keyboard and went wild while wife had the app. running. After cleaning up the desktop mess, I've discovered that InDesign is really messed up. Tool Bar is gone, and none of the tool palettes found under the Window menu are visible. I tried a software reinstallation but to no avail. Could it be as simple as throwing out the InDesign preferences, then re-starting? To compound the mess, I am having no luck in locating where these prefs are hiding in my computer's system folder. Any/all suggestions are much appreciated!

I'm glad you got it sorted but I'd like to bring something to you attention.
CS is totally unsupported on Leopard and Intel machines add another level of complexity. CS is the earliest version of Creative Suite eligible for upgrade pricing and if the current policy holds you will be ineligible for upgrade pricing when CS5 ships. That's going to be one very expensive decision to make.
You should give careful thought to upgrading to CS4 now while you can. For $799 you get all new versions of ID, PS, Illy, DW, FW, FL and Acrobat Pro. http://bit.ly/aoqQSB. I know that's not cheap but if you wait you'll be looking at closer to $1,800.
I'm bringing this up because invariably when new versions come out we see a lot of very unhappy people who were unaware that Adobe changed to tiered upgrade pricing and are shocked to learn that they can't upgrade anymore.

  • Is there a way to import custom equalizer settings to in iPod Touch?

Well, I use a custom equalizer setting on iTunes, and I was wondering if I could import it to my iTouch (3rd Gen, iOS4). Syncing it does not add my custom equalizer setting it to the lists, and I cannot find out how to mess with the equalizer settings on my iTouch. Any help would be loved! <3

Custom EQ's don't transfer to the iPod, sorry.

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

  • Equalizer settings for read-only files

    Ok here is my problem:
I have a lot of cds imported from my earlier years as an MS user. The files are stored in mp3 format on CDs. Now I want to create one huge library in iTunes, importing the data of the files but not the files themselves, so I can make use of the volume and equalizer settings that I want to adjust per file.
Please note that the actual file I am talking about is sitting on the CD which means it's read-ony. What I want is to load desired bits off CDs onto my iPod so I can hear the files in my car.
I noticed that the file data is stored in the preferences file and I can see a difference between a file with and one without an equalizer seting applied - it does or doesn't have an equalizer category in the respective xml file area.
Now I have realised that when importing CDs, the files will be analysed so the volume adjustment will be done - but I cannot choose any equalizer settings. It doesn't even matter whether the respective CD is in the drive or not.
Now it is not really useful importing dozens of CDs without being able to use what I regard as the most prominent killer feature of iTunes - the EQ settings stored per file.
Does anyone know a solution? Is this intended or is there a mistake on my side?
mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Ok - I will try again, sorry for this mess.
I have files on CD. I can import them into iTunes - they show up, they are being put into the database. But since I did choose the option to NOT copy the files to the library, they are ONLY on CD.
This is what I want - only the reference to the files, with all data such as equalizer and volume settings. The reason for this is lack of space.
I still want the stuff inside iTunes - so I can easily synchronize them with my iPod only inserting the CD and plugging in my iPod.
The problem is: I cannot edit the equalizer settings as long the files are only on CD. I could, of course, copy the CD to HD temporarily. But that would not leave me with a reference to CD - it would generate a reference to a place on the HD which - I guess - means I'd have to copy the CD back to HD again, then synchronize my iPod.
I cannot believe I am the first person to think of something like that, even though HD space is not so precious anymore these days.

  • Gnome Crashes on Login after messing with dual monitor settings

Gnome displays the sad monitor and has the error message "..something has gone wrong..~" and will force me to log out. I've only started to experience this after messing with dual monitor settings in nvidia. The dual setup(twinview) worked but once I rebooted, I couldn't get it going for awhile.

Extra Notes: I have another desktop session with awesome installed(uninstalled now) and could log into that no problem. Awesome was giving me troubles so I uninstalled it. I have 2 gnome desktop sessions, my regular gnome session(the one that crashes), and the other with no window manager(never crashed on startup).
I installed awesome around the same time as configuring the dual monitor setup.
    Thanks.

    Update.
The crashes are to be expected now. I'm circumventing the whole thing by logging into my other Gnome session without a window manager, logging out and then logging back into my regular Gnome with Metacity.
I've noticed the tty1 sessions(not sure what's it's called) is strange. Apparently my session runs on tty8 but when I try logging in, it'll crash me and tty7 gives me a blank screen with a blinking underscore. The other tty1s work regularly. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Is there a way to just reset the Gnome settings?

  • What is the best iTunes Equalizer settings for Bose QC15 Headphones?

What is the best iTunes Equalizer settings for the Bose QC15 Headphones? An image of those settings would be great.

I'm a bit of an audio geek, so I can tell you that YES whatever sounds right is what you want, but NO those settings are not very good. The general setting is "OK" but the values are extremely out of range. Take that setting and reduce the distance between the sliders and you're getting there. Look for example at how the other iTunes presets are made, the don't go that far from the horizontal middle, and for good reason.
When you play a recorded song, the song has usually been put through an extensive process of mixing, EQ and mastering before you got it, in order to get the best balance of all frequencies, to ensure the best sound accross a wide range of speakers and headphones, and to ensure the most important details and instruments are audible when played together.
All speakers are different, and that's where the idea of an EQ for the listener is introduced. The idea is to tweak the overall sound from your music player (iTunes) to compensate for the strengths and weaknesses of your speakers. Which to be honest, is a bit much to expect form a typical music consumer.
The iTunes EQ has a set of horizontal lines representing 3dB (volume steps) each. In my experience you should not boost or cut more than 6 db at the most - and that's a lot! I stay at around 0-4dB. The extreme options are there to cut noise from bad recordings or emphasize a detail you can't hear very well.
    So here's basic EQ lesson:
The EQ represents the range frequencies in sound that the human ear can hear. Actually they go beyond that - most people cannot hear the far left and right frequencies. The range of frequencis start at "deep" or "low" frequencies at the left (bass) passing through the Midrange (midtones) in the center, to the (treble) at the right.
Your speaker has a limit to how many frequencies it can play at once before it starts to lose detail - meaning one sound will drown out in order to make room for another. So don't over-EQ your sound or it'll ruin it.
    How to tweak an EQ:
    1) Start by playing a well-produced piece of modern music  - it'll most likely be well mixed and employ a wide range of frequencies. I'm into heavy metal but for this I'd probably go with some average pop music, because metal is so noisy it gets hard to pick out the details.
    2) Set you EQ to FLAT - zero all accross the board. It'll sound pretty flat and boring unless your speakers are very "flavoured" or "colored" already.
Sliding any of the EQ bar up, will increase or boost the volume of the frequency the bar represents. You can't really add frequencies that aren't there already - you're just adding noise in that freqeuncy and that will "fill up" the available frequencies on your speaker, causing that "drowned out" effect I was talking about.
Instead, slide them down from the center, and you're cutting the volume instead. This is better because it'll leave more "room" for the other frequencies. You can always use the Preamp slider at the end if you're worried about loudness (but I wouldn't).
    3) Start by tweaking the 500 and 1K slider. This represents the middle of your ears' range of hearing and the most noticable change. It should most likely go downwards - this will take the "canned" sound out of your music and that'll be apparent quickly. Go ahead and slide that down as far as -6dB.
    4) Now work outwards from the center forming a "v" shape, where the top tips of the V end at the 64 slider and the 8k slider. The very far left and right sliders (32 and 16K) should dip down again to about 0bB. Trust me, these are almost non-important in most music. You can tweak thos last if you feel it's needed.
    5) now it's time to start playing round with the V shape. Go ahead and try sliding the sliders a little up or down between 125-250 and 1K to 4K. You may find that some need to move a lot out of the average "V" shape before the sound is good. This is what my iTunes EQ settings ended up looking like for my Motörheadphones "Motorizer" headphones:
    Hope it helps.

I downloaded the iOS 7 update on my iPad 2 and I hate it! It has messed up many things.  Can I go back to iOS 6?

Sorry but Apple doesn't support downgrading.
There are a few things you can do to help change the appearance. You can go to settings, general, accessibility and adjust the contrast, text size, bold the text. You can also adjust the brightness in the control panel. Maybe this will make it a little better looking for you.

  • HT203421 Mountain Lion download has messed up my calendar. One calendar is missing on my MAc but not on my ipad or iPhone

Mountain Lion download has messed up my calendar. One calendar is missing on my Mac but not on my ipad or iPhone

OKAY FOLKS, I found the answer.  I figured the only explination could be with my iCloud Account.  I tried EVERYTHING, read every discussion on this topic.  It WASN'T b/c I had an old Mobile Me account.  It WASN'T b/c I didn't have the sttings right.  I rebooted, erased data, EVERYTHING.  The only solution was to create a NEW iCloud account - I chose a new address through Apple (me.com).  Even though I already have a me.com email address and a different Apple ID I figured starting fresh was the only way.  Sadly, I lost all of my calendar data (when I tried to import my old calendar data from a backup it was associated with the old iCloud account and could not be edited) but my contacts were saved.  I just re-entered my calendar information... figured this would be less time consuming than trying to reboot and research the issue 10 more hours!
Here are the steps I used:
1- iCloud was OFF on my iPhone to start
2- Export your iCal and iContacts data from your Mac to a backup (you WILL lose your data)
3- On iPhone went to Settings, iCloud and went through the proper steps to set up a new iCloud account with a NEW email address (me.com)
4- On iMac under System Preferences I deleted my OLD iCloud account (it will prompt you stating you will lose your data or you can merge/save).  The only way I could get it to work was to accept the warning it was going to delete everything
5- Set up a NEW iCloud account on my Mac with the NEW me.com account I set up on my iPhone.  Somehow my Contacts were kept in tact, uploaded to iCloud and to my iPhone.  Had issues with my iCal data, but I entered all the information manually.
Everything is syncing great!  Haven't set this up yet on my iPad but will do that next.  I'm hopeful!!

  • IPod Nano 5G (16 Gig) has frozen on the Reset Settings Screen

My iPod Nano 5G (16 Gig) has frozen on the Reset Settings Screen after I tried holding the middle button to re-set. I was doing this as a result of the backlight timer not responding. I'm really worried now, even if I plug into an official Apple external USB outlet or my PC nothing is happening - it's just stuck on that screen. Has been like this for about 4 hours now. And iTunes is saying it doesn't recognise the Nano and its not showing as an external drive on my PC.
Though this was bought for my from HMV at Xmas would I still be able to take the Nano to the Apple store as a last resort? Any help would be great, thanks.

Hi I tried this from: Zolved.com +Toggle the Hold switch to on, then back to off (none of the red is showing).+
+Press and hold down the Menu and Select buttons for 10 seconds (until you see the Apple logo) as shown in the picture.+ And it appears to have worked, so am guessing this is the standard way of re-setting the Nano? Thanks

You'll want to copy the music from your iPod to your computer and into iTunes first.  See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering some of the different methods and software available to assist you with this task.  Once you have successfully copied all your content back to your PC and into iTunes, you can safely Erase and Sync your iPod.

If you have a time machine backup, you could restore to mountain Lion.
However the Air runs faster and better on Mavericks.
