Ios4 introduced sound blips in silent mode

Hi. I have found an ios4 big that I can reproduce. On silent mode I have hears sound blips when switching apps. If i for example load the latest version of flight control and leave it in its main menu. If I then exit using the home button I hear a sound blip noise. Really unprofessional as the phone is in silent mode.
Can anyone reproduce.

If you put the device in silent mode the idea is for it to be silent. It seems logical to me that this would be the intention i silent or vibrate. It makes sense to me.

  • Alarm sounds even in silent mode!

    Hi,
I have a 3GS. I'm a bit hard of hearing, and I have an alarm set for evening hours. Yesterday I was in a movie theater. I was careful to flip the switch to silent mode, but the alarm went off anyway. LOUD, because I don't hear too well.
I silenced it as fast as I could, and the snooze button was the first button I could get to. Then put in the password to make sure it was reset. I put the phone back in my pocket, and the darn thing went off again! The button I pushed was snooze, and evidently you can't silence it after you pressed snooze?
In the manual, I found out that the alarm pays no attention to the silent switch. What nonsense is this? You give us a silent switch and then have a permanent feature of the phone totally ignore it? It was like a bomb went off in that theater, and the second time around was 10 times worse.
Somebody please tell me there's a way around this. I browsed some of the other alarm clocks, but they don't seem to care about this problem.
I need the loud alarm so I can hear it, and I need the silent switch even more.
    Thanks.

I'm sorry, but the only way around this is to turn the alarm off when you don't need it, like in a theater, in church, etc.
Some like an alarm that can't be silenced, some don't. You can send Apple your preference here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • Sound Setting for "Silent" or "Vibrate Only"?

I'm new to the iPhone, having bought an iPhone 4 last week. I'm looking for a way to control the sounds with a little more granularity. Or maybe I'm just missing something. Here are some things I'd like to do:
    1. Turn off the "outgoing SMS message" sound. Keep the incoming SMS sound on.
    2. Be able to easily put the phone into "Vibrate" mode. All sounds turn to vibrate.
    3. Be able to put the phone into "Silent" mode. Keep it on, but no sounds at all.
If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful.

See what the manual says about sounds http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf , page 159
    Sounds and the Ring/Silent Switch
Switch between ring and silent mode: Flip the Ring/Silent switch on the side of iPhone.
When set to silent, iPhone doesn’t play any ring, alert, or effects sounds. It does, however, play alarms set using Clock.
Note: In some countries or regions, the sound effects for Camera and Voice Memos are played even if the Ring/Silent switch is set to silent.
Set whether iPhone vibrates when you get a call: Choose Sounds. To set whether iPhone vibrates in silent mode, turn Vibrate under Silent on or off. To set whether iPhone vibrates in ring mode, turn Vibrate under Ring on or off.
Adjust the ringer and alerts volume: Choose Sounds and drag the slider. Or, if no song or video is playing and you aren’t on a call, use the volume buttons on the side of iPhone.
Set the ringtone: Choose Sounds > Ringtone.
Set alert and effects sounds: Choose Sounds and turn items on or off under Ring . When the Ring/Silent switch is set to ring, iPhone plays sounds for alerts and effects that are turned on.
You can set iPhone to play a sound whenever you:
    Get a call
    Get a text message
    Get a voicemail message
    Get an email message
    Send an email message...
    So,
    1) not possible to have only one sound for SMS out/in
    2) use the ring/silent switch
    3) Alarms set by your clock will have sound, even in silent mode (ring/silent switch switch active)

  • OpenAL Detect if Phone is in Silent Mode

Is there some way to detect if the phone is in silent mode when using OpenAL? I'm aware of the Audio Queue method but I need to use OpenAL for a particular part of my app and I can't seem to find a way to make it respond to silent mode...or more accurately not respond to silent mode.

Good question...my app does this too, it powers right through with it's sounds regardless of silent mode or not lol.

  • Camera sound is there even when device is in silent mode ?

Camera sound is there even when device is in silent mode?

Possibly. It depends on what country the phone is from. In some countries, phones are required to make a shutter noise even in silent mode.

  • Shutter sound of my iphone4s camera still working even in silent mode. Why is it happen?

Even when i turn my iphone to silent mode, the shutter sound of the camera still working. Why is it happen?

Plug it into power, and hold down the home and the sleep/wake button for 30 seconds.
If this doesn't work chances are something is wrong with your iPhone, I'd suggest taking it to an Apple Retail store. www.apple.com/retail (You can change your country at the bottom of the page if need be, that's for the US)
Also, if you look in the headphone jack... or look into the bottom where the dock connector plugs in... and you see a red circle... You've set off the Liquid Contact Indicators in your iPhone by getting liquid in your unit. That would definately be a reason for your iPhone to not be working.

  • Messaging, mail and phone sounds in headphones with phone in silent mode

    hi,
I just upgraded to the 3gs from the original iphone and I seem to be confused as to whether I should be getting all the different sound alerts through my headphones when my phone is in silent mode. I thought the original did that. can someone tell me if it's possible to get the sound alerts through the headphones if they're attached and the phone is in silent mode?
    thanks,

both the new iphone and the old one both do the same way
as long as you have the headphones plugged in you will hear it in the headphones
there is no way to "mute" it

  • IPhone 5s with ios 8.2 - can't use touch function; must double tap each function key; can't shut down phone without a hard reset; every function results in a voice description even in silent mode.

I have a iPhone 5s and just installed the 8.0.2 ios. How do I stop getting audible descriptions of each action I take in silent mode? The Touch ID has ceased to function. The screen icons have to be double struck. I cannot scroll down past the first page of any screen. I must force a shut-down to turn the phone off.  How do I fix all these problems?

    Hello Gubus 2,
It sounds as though (no pun intended) VoiceOver is enabled on your iPhone. Pressing the Home button quickly three times should turn this feature off. Further information can be found in the iPhone user guide at the link below.

    Hey Jan813,
there is nothing wrong with your or your friends phone. this is due to a simple setting that you can see:
    Menu-tools-profiles-silent-personalise,
in this you will find an option for 'warning tones', if this is set as 'on' your phone will sound the capture tone even when on silent mode and if it is set as 'off' your phone will not sound the capture tone in the silent mode.
    hope this helps!
thanks.. i've tried that too.. but their phones still have the sound.. they've been bugging me to tell them how i did it to my phone.. heheh
    but thanks anyway..

  • Problems with multiple e-mail accounts on Droid 2 & also can't put phone into Silent mode

I just received my Droid 2 and having a problems with having multiple e-mail accounts.
My original droid worked fine with all of this.
I have 2 different personal e-mail accounts setup.
When I click e-mail, it just defaults to the default e-mail address and I have no way of switching accounts. I have to change the default e-mail account in order to view the other account.
Along with having a shortcut on the home page to each e-mail account, it always just goes to the default one and no way of adding a shortcut to both.
When I did this on the original droid, i could choose which e-mail account I wanted a shortcut for and could obviously have both on the home screen.
I also have found no way to NAME the accounts, ex. Comcast & Work.
That way I could distinguish the difference between the 2 on my home screen even if I could get a shortcut to both.
not sure how this could be overlooked but I sure dont think there is a way to make this happen.
Also, what is with 2.2 System and not allowing you to put it in silent mode?
I updated my original Droid to 2.2 and could no longer make it silent with the volume button on side or going into the sound settings and changing it to silent, it would always stay on vibrate.
And now it does the same thing with Droid 2. I cant make it silent at all.
    Any ideas on either issue

ok I got the silent problem fixed.
The update changed vibrate to be always, even when on Silent mode.
The e-mail problem however is stll an issue and I realy hope they release an update to fix this.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with 2 e-mail accounts on their droid.
I never had an original Droid, so I can;t compare to what was on that.  For me, I am using the "Messaging" app - it seems to be set up for multiple e-mail accounts better than the email app.  Messaging is the one recommended by the manufacturer - give that a try.

  • How can I change the settings such that the phone does not vibrate when I receive a message in silent mode, but vibrates for calls?

I'd like the phone to vibrate when I receive a call when it is in silent mode (as it already does) but I'd like it to not vibrate when I receive a text in silent mode. I know how to set both (calls and texts) to not vibrate in silent mode, or choose no vibration for texts when loud or silent, but not what I just mentioned. Thanks.

Try this - Settings > Sounds > Text Tone > Vibration (at the top) > None.
Edit - just read the last part of your post closer and I'm not aware of such an option.

  • Can I turn off Silent mode all together

When I go on call I find that out of force of habit (or just plain accident) I will put my phone on silent. Now this can be disasterous if I am callled by work for 24/7 support.
I am looking for a way to do any of these:
    1. Can disable the toggle on the side of the phone that switches mode between silent and normal.
    2. Can disbale silent alltogether .
    3. Allows my phone to ring (with sound and everything) in silent mode.
The do not disturb fuction doesn't help me because an uknown number could call me for support.
    Cheers
