IOS4 upgrade

Can someone tell me how long it generally takes for apple to recognise the problem on the iOS4 software with car audios? and issue upgrade to solve it, or is it just a waiting game?

Apple Lesson #1: Product Life Cycles
Apple tends to stick to a fairly strict product life cycle. iPods are updated in September, iPhones in June, MacBooks every 9 months or so, iPads will likely be updated in March or later... Apple rarely (with the exception of computers) updates a product more than once per year. To do otherwise would lessen the anticipation of new products, as well as cause people to constantly wait and also force development to move at an almost unsustainable rate...

  • IPod Touch 3rd Gen: Battery Draining very rapidly after iOS4 upgrade.

    Hello All,
    Sorry for the long post:
I was wondering if others are experiencing this issue as well? I have a 3rd gen ipod touch 64gb.
Prior to the iOS4 upgrade my battery life was very decent. I would easily go a couple(2) days before requiring a full charge on the device even with modest internet, game and music use. As a rule I keep my back light as low as I can stand to conserve battery unless I'm in direct sunlight and have no choice but to bump it up in order to see.
After the iOS4 upgrade my battery life has been drasticly reduced. Going even 24 hours without plugging the device in is totally out of the question and in many cases I find myself having to plug the device into my laptop or car pretty much any chance I get in order to have uninterupted use of the device while I'm out and about. Although I've never timed my actual use, my usage habbits have not changed as far as I'm concerned.
I went so far as to exchanging the device at my local bestbuy as I purchased the blacktie protection plan which grants me an exchange of the device for "any" reason; be it manufaturer defect, accidental breakage, or anything really short of losing it. The replacement was a brand new non refurb ipod which I synced and charged fully upon bringing it home. To my suprise, the battery life is just as bad as the ipod I just turned in. I have yet to downgrade to iOS3 but am considering it if only to see if I suddenly see a great improvement of the battery life.
If anyone is having the issue or has some suggestions other then downgrading please comment. If this is an "unknown" bug/issue/flaw in iOS4 I'm sure apple would like to know about it and I'm assuming they monitor these forums for reports of these issues.
    Thanks!
    gutset

  • IOS4 upgrade loses SMS data

It seems that the data restored to my iPhone 3G after the iOS4 upgrade was old/incomplete. Though it ran a backup during the upgrade process, I noticed SMS history for the past 12 hours had been lost. I can't confirm other data recovery issues - SMS was the most obvious and all of my email and contacts exist on other servers that were retrieved after upgrade.

I've also lost all SMS data as part of the upgrade - have tried restore from backup in iTunes and no change. Very very unhappy currently and looking for a solution!

  • IOs4 upgrade, 3gs no longer charges on Altec radio / iPod player

Ever since my iOs4 upgrade, my 3gs no longer charges on my Altec radio / iPod player.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

No suggestions. Sorry. But to share the pain. 4 must be the Vista of Apple. Since upgrading my 3gs gets physically very warm, which never happened before. I can't leave the phone charging connected to my notebook via a USB cable, which I could always do before: the phone actually drains. The multitasking feature is lousy: every app I run stays on, I can't control what is running unless I physically turn off the app, which is a design defect. How do I return the phone to the old OS unless and until Apple gets its act together?

  • IOS4 Upgrade Error -69

Maybe a different take, but the iOS4 upgrade seemed to go quite smoothly...
until it tried to restore all my data.
I now got an -69 error message.
Have no contacts or notes nor have any music sync'd
I've managed to get the phone working, but without any phonebook and when i try and manually add music, iTunes tells me that the source files are unavailable however i can play them from the main lib.

Unplugged my phone and then reconnected.
iTunes now tells me that there was a problem with a previous restore and would i like to try again.
    fingers crossed

  • Contacts cause crash and return to home screen after iOS4 upgrade

After upgrading our iPhone 3GS to iOS4, it crashes when clicking on contacts from the Phone app. The Contacts app itself will not open. This is making it extremely difficult to even use the phone to call anyone.
The same issue is also described in the following forum posts:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12041826&#12041826

Check Settings > Store and make sure the Apple ID that is shown is the same as the one used to buy the apps in question.
Also, try a Reset (hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red Off slider, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons).

  • ICal lost end dates and ∞ sync conflicts after iOS4 upgrade

After upgrading my sacrificial iPod 3 (I’m waiting to upgrade my main iPhone 3GS) and synchronizing it to my home MacBook Pro 2007 17", I got huge numbers of old repeating meeting which seem to have lost their end-date, e.g., “Palm-size PC Porting Lab” on June 28th this millennium, which I assure you is an error. I restored from a desktop backup, overwrote the iOS4 Calendar data, and synced again.
After that, I had a miserable day full of a dozen or so Resolve Sync Conflicts dialogs—sometime three or four in a row after a single, very slow, sync. Several times two sync processes used up all my real memory (using over a gigabyte, out of three) and once it even used up all my disk space (I had 29G free). I also had a few rounds of conflict on my work MacBook Pro 2009 13", synced via MobileMe.
Some historical notes: My calendar data is quite large, going back to Newton days via PalmOS, and iPhone OS 3 never handled it properly, e.g., both search and over-the-air sync are broken on my 3.1.3 iPhone. MobileMe sync data also gets corrupted every few weeks. And “Palm-size PC” was Microsoft’s court-ordered renaming of their trade-mark infringing Palm PC.
    Macaulay‘s Law of Software Upgrades:
“To think nothing of symmetry and much of convenience; never to remove an anomaly merely because it is an anomaly; never to innovate except when some grievance is felt; never to innovate except so far as to get rid of the grievance.”

Deleting my caches per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481, and restoring and rebooting a couple of times, seems to have shut up the warnings, at least for now, but there's still some data loss, e.g., two meetings on 6/21 and 6/22 don't show up any more on my main Mac, but do show up on both my sacrificial iOS4 iPod, and my real 3.1.3 iPhone. (I’m also having trouble with a Note failing to sync from my iPad, but I haven’t tried that yet since nuking my caches.)

  • Constant reboot after IOS4 upgrade Solved!

I too was having the dreaded error 29 code and stuck in recovery mode along with the 5 minute constant reboot since upgrading to IOS4 two days ago. I had to use Blackra1n to get it out of recovery. Blackra1n will NOT jailbreak IOS4 but will fix the stuck recovery mode problem. I also had previously replaced the battery with a higher capacity mAh. the upgrade to v3.1.3 went perfect. Only when I upgraded to IOS4 did things change. It would constantly reboot and the battery was slowly draining and would not recharge. I poured through countless forum posts and tried most all of them. Then this evening I found a post somewhere in this forum about possibly the battery was causing the problem. So I got out my tools and put the original battery back in and booted up. It got to the front screen and immediately a bunch of old calendar events started popping up which was different than before. I cleared them all and I have now had my iphone on steady for over an hour and not one reboot. Battery is also now recharging off my laptop.
So long story short, if you've replaced your battery at some point, put it back in or hopefully an OEM with same APN: 616-0434 (#for my iPhone). Everything is now working in IOS4!
Good battery replacement guide here: http://www.rapidrepair.com/guides/iphone-3g-s-repair/iphone-3g-s-dissasembly-rep air-guide.html

    Booted into Faunos Live system.
As root, ran Fsck on the HDD with inode problem.  Answered yes to all system repair queries.
Rebooted into archlinux HDD with no problems.

  • Feedback noise from iOS4 upgrade to 3GS

Dear Apple marketing folks, we appreciate your developers, but please get us a patch for this iOS4 issue ASAP. Think of the bad (and very public) experiences that are now happening daily with iPhones randomly making loud screeching noises in work places, cafes, buses, subways, etc.. Talk about bad word-of-mouth marketing. Ouch. The Android marketing people are going to have a field day with this one if it does not get fixed quick.
The recent upgrade to iOS4 on my otherwise great 3GS is causing random, loud, high-pitched, feedback noises to emit every time the phone makes a noise for anything else (reminder ding, etc).
A phone call with tech support only got me a suggestion to do a Restore via iTunes and confirmation that they know this is trending up. The Restore did not work.

Lots of blog mentions on the issue just like this one from iLounge: http://bit.ly/eA1rU.

I have had the same issue following my upgrade to iOS4. In my opinion these issues are uncharacteristic of Apple. I have had no issues with this phone or any other Apple product that I have used until I made the upgrade to iOS4. I agree with the other posts that something needs to be done about this (and other iOS4 issue) ASAP. PLEASE post any tricks that you have found (besides restores, and reboots which I have already done without lasting success)to work on a more permanent basis.

  • Itunes not playing while IOS4 upgrade

So Im upgrading my Iphone 3G to IOS4 and its taking for ever. Which is normal, and I expected this, but in the meantime I can't access the Itunes window, to keep playing music, or select my music.
What gives? is this just me? Is this the fault of the 9.2 upgrade (remember a few versions before apple messed up their upgrade by forgetting to add the minimize window shortcut with their upgrade?)

Nope i did not have any success with the other possibilities, other then the one concerning the hardware.
hmmm. okay, if you switched sound enhancer off, that probably would have covered that possibility anyway.
we'd better check your video drivers as well as your sound card drivers. (old video drivers can cause problems with Quicktime that can show up as itunes audio problems, since QT provides audio playback for itunes.)

  • IOS4 Upgrade: Complete disaster

I am absolutely furious! After over 4 hours of mucking about, I've managed to upgrade to iOS4. However, ALL my app and phone settings have been deleted including ALL my text message history. I'm gutted!
The first attempt to upgrade ended in an error -34. My only option was to restore and, inevitably, everything got wiped! It's the first time I've ever wanted to smash my iPhone to pieces.
Turns out that Apple have spitefully removed one of the nicer features (home screen wallpaper) from 3G devices so it seems there's absolutely no point in upgrading anyway.
I wanted to tell Apple about it but couldn't find any electronic way of communicating with them, so I'm having to post here in the hope someone reads it.

I have to agree with you, this whole 4.0 thing as gone awry and theres no fix. Update to 3.0 last year went flawlessly, this year its taking 2 hours to get it done, my pics weren't there and had to wait another 30 min to optimize all of them. Plus the fact no wallpapers,multi-tasking, or even rotation lock!!! 3G owners had no need to upgrade In my 3 years from switching to mac and 1 year switching to iPhone I think this is the first time i've been disappointed with apple. Plus I'm just out of so i cant go to the apple store........ They better let me upgrade to a new phone that can run this Darn iOS!!!!!

  • IOS4 upgrade problems

I just upgraded my iPhone 3gs to the new IOS4. While trying to install it to my phone i got error 29, i then had to restore my phone and lost all of my information. Once i finally installed IOS4 my phone has been shutting off every 5 minutes or so even when its on standby. It doesn't seem to be holding a charge very well and now it has completely shut off and i cant get it to turn back on.
How can i fix this problem??? Has anyone else has this problem??

I have the same problem with my updated iphone no longer working on the Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD. It worked wonderfully with the pre OS4, and it would even charge the phone while playing music or not. Now, my disappointment just grows. I will try some of the solutions posted here and in the other threads that say "OS4 and Stereo Problems" and hope it works, otherwise, i will go back to the previous OS.
The first solution attempt will come in the form of a "Hard Reset" of the iPhone and hope that solves the issue.

  • IOS4 Upgrade Wiped iPod Contents

Over the years I have never had a problem with any Apple software downloads until now. I just upgraded to iOS4 and find that all my music, photos & audiobooks are gone! Apps and Calendar are OK. Since iTunes said it was backing up the iPod before the download, where do I find the backup and how do I get it back into the iPod? Thanks for any help.
    Mike

If you've lost data try this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2473251&tstart=0
If the backup itunes took at the time of updating is corrupted, ie causing various errors on restore, just move it out of the c/users/<yourname>appdata/roaming/applecomputer/mobilesync/backups folder (suggest you keep this old backup somewhere else just in case) then try the method I've posted in the link above to find a "hidden" backup folder that your OS - if you're lucky- has shadow copied.
